  1. @Dave Barry It is Unlikely that ANY provider/site would renew a certificate daily. It costs money. When you say you have seen "it" reboot during the night, what are you referring to - Your Router, the TV itself, or the WiFi part of it. Many LG TV's use a common WiFi/BT (BlueTooth) module that supports both WiFi network, and the Magic Remotes that have half the buttons use BT and others InfraRed LED tramsmitter. It is a bit of a sensitive and unreliable module, and can be affected by Storm Damage and static. I even have my TV connected via one of those "spike protector" sockets, but mine still went pop for the BT side during a recent minor storm, so I cannot select my apps (but I use a Foxtel STB - so don't lose out too much while waiting for my spare). Just to make sure, check on any Power Saving settings - if they are present, set to off, or max power, as the equivalent things on a Laptop can "shutown" or "sleep" network cards and WiFi dongles when inactive, to save on power.
  2. @Leonard King It may well be the update, BUT have you ensured that you have the latest spec (2.0 or 2.1) HDMI cables in use that fully support all your required eARC or ARC functions? It might just be that the latest updates has made the TV follow eARC spec more stringently.
  3. @Surojit Bhattacharjee I beleive that the issue is due to DRM (Digital Rights Management), that blocks Copyrighted material being outputted to external devices. The YouTube app seems to be OK and has less problems with copyright, and so has a "safe" cast option by the sound of it. Others (especially the Sony products and the others) have to make sure that users are not violating the terms of use, by blocking outputs to "other" devices that could potentially record copyrighted material to "sell on for profit".
  4. @ricecooker Was the update a WebOS/firmware update, or an Amazon APP update, or another app? Also, remove any other connected device temporarily for testing that you do not need (especially the one connected to HDMI4), then re-test the issue. If it was after the Amazon APP update, it could just be a buggy update.
  5. @Thomas Devenney FYI: there are apparrently quite a few TV models with this sort of issue. If you have found thate Bose works, stick with those. If you really want to get the Samsung ones working, try using one of these (might not work with all models of TV, and I have never used one, so cannot comment, but for $7 maybe worth a shot)! https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Wireless-Bluetooth-3-5mm-Audio-USB-Receiver-Adapter-Music-Dongle-AUX-A2DP-Car/401097002987
  6. @Raymond 0144 This is all to do with DRM (Digital Rigths Management) and copyright. Any company allowing that to happen will get sued pretty quickly. What you CAN do (If your TV model supports it), is to use Time Machine (Called Time Machine II - i.e. Mark 2 - on later models). If it DOES, then plug a spare HDD or SSD into the back USB 2.0 (or a USB 3.0 spec slot if it has one), and it should trigger the preparation (setup) of it, to format it to the TV requirements. That should then allow the Time Machine APP to enable shceduled recordings, that you CAN watvch later of course, but you will NOT be able to play them elsewhere, as it is in a proprietary format that only the TV will understand (DRM and Copyright again). NOTE: you do NOT need to keep the TV on, ONLY ON STANDBY as it will wake up the TV tuner and the external disk when it needs to, 1 minute before the scheduled time (but the TV sreen will not be on).
  7. @George Hofmeister I guess you meant "Faulty Wireless Modules". I did see some vidoes on YouTube about how to replace these. There was one I saw recently that showed one being removed, he brushed the dust off the ribbon cable connector, and put it back in. Not sure if that is a common problem, or if the WiFi modules are totally failing electronically (i.e. failed component inside). Obviously brushing the dust off is NOT going to fix that! Of course the OP could be right that the firmware upgrade has broken the functionality (especially if it has tightened up standards for use on another country, as is the case here - channel seperation, power output etc.)?
  8. @Daniel Feiman First, what model TV is this, second, is the LAN cable using a "PLA" (Power Line Aaptor) device that uses your A/C house wiring to send your TCP/IP INternet traffic to /from your router, or is it directly connected? If the first one, is it (PLA at router or TV) plugged into its own socket, or into one of those "multi-socket" extension things?
  9. @Hiren Chotaliya Is this intermittent? When on, how long does it stay on? Have you checked that the A/C mains plug at the back has not worked a bit loose (sometimes these IEC type "kettle" plugs back out slightly, and APPEAR to be fully in, but are not, so try pushing in a few more millimeters). They can also get burned/corroded internal contacts if left loose for some time, due to arcing). It is also worth checking the wall socket end too, especially if it is not a moulded plug type, or you use one of those "multi-plug" things, cheap brands can have poor contacts. Try using another A/C lead direct to the wall if you can, to eliminate that and any multi-socket first. Also check any HDMI plugs, as external devices can use CEC control lines to turn things on and off, and if loose, can confuse the electronics. If you have eliminated the above, it is possible that there may be a power-supply fault in the TV, or it is detecting an overcurrent from some faulty internal board or component. If under warrantee, see if you can get it repaired under that.
  10. @datdarndot apologies - I checked the spec of your specific model, and it does NOT mention Time Machine in the specs, like it does on many others. However, under the main sections at: https://www.lg.com/ca_en/tvs/lg-43UK6500AUA it quotes this in the "Simply Smart" section (That DOES imply that you need a Smart Remote), BUT DOES also mention a recording capability. You might need to clarify this with the store you purchased from: "webOS™ 4.0 is a simple Smart operating system to use with our Magic Remote and refined launcher bar. Enjoy many of the features using just our intelligent voice recognition, quickly get to the apps you want, zoom in and record what's on your screen, connect to any Bluetooth device and even use your TV as a music player."
  11. @datdarndot The USB2 ports will be fine for any good HDD plugged in a free slot. If one of them (or both) are blue colour inside, this is USUALLY a sign that it is USB3.0 spec, but as I said, it will work in a usb 2.0 port as well. Don't get confused by the port NUMBERS (1 or 2 etc), it does NOT refer to the spec or speed capability only the actual port number as a handy referecne to the ones being used at any time. TIME Machine II - all the ones I looked at recently said they are "Time Machine II compatible",so just try connecting an HDD disk into the USB, follow the prompts to format it. Tme Machine should then be ready to go.
  12. @anand shinde I suspect that it knows you don't yet have an external HDD (Hard disk) plugged into a USB (Ideally the USB3 socket), so it cannot support recording until you do. By the way. did you seee my other post about typical/good HDD portable drives to use: " Bye the way, I find that Toshiba or Seagate portable USB3 dives are good for this, use this Google search term to see what is available in your area: "site:.uk toshiba portable drive" or "site:.uk seagate portable drive" without the quotes. The site thing limits sites to your country."

  14. @anand shinde Thanks for the model number (43UK6780PTE). I see from the spec that it is "Time Machine Ready" so the functionality IS there, but it will need a small self-powered HDD (external backup type of hard disk) plugged into the USB3 socket to activate the recording functionality that the TV has. NOTE: the new disk when added, may trigger a recording "setup" automatically anyway, so be aware that it may well want to format it to the TV requirements (file structures, folder names etc), that may take a few minutes. Use Velcro or a cable tie to hold the external disk in a convenient place, so that it does not strain the connection cable (NEVER let it hang from the cable). ALSO: be aware that even when in standby, the TV will still have enough "smart electronic logic" active to do the scheduled recordings on its own, it does NOT need to be in the ON state, BUT DO NOT TURN IT OFF AT THE WALL SOCKET OBVIOUSLY! ☺️ Did you read the link for the smart remote info in the link I posted above? It may be a different one, and I am having a hard time finding the "Q.MENU" button, that in one of them is a button marked "123". If you had a separate manual for your remote, have a good read to see if it helps with the recording side. It MIGHT be the "settings" cog button on yours, I am not sure. I know that the smart remotes have a good voice command function, so press the button to activate the microphone and try saying "time machine". I find the voice command useful to get to "settings" with my older magic remote, as I can never remember how to get to it on my TV otherwise... 😊

  16. @anand shinde FYI: Time Machine functions in newer TV models is now called Time machine II, and is driven mainly from the Magic Remote Q.MENU, so it might not be visible as an actual separate app. If you tell us your LG model number, we might be able to provide more relevant help for recording functionality, tips and info. In the meantime, have a read of this LG article: https://eguide.lgappstv.com/manual/gb/12017.html

  18. @anand shinde To expand on what @sbzz posted, as regards recording on a USB connected disk: Have you checked the "Time Machine" app on the TV? Most LG models from about 2014 onward have this. You DO need to attach a decent capacity (e.g. 1TB to 2TB) sized HDD (portable hard disk, e.g. the Seagate backup disks, that are quite cheap these days, and are self-powered from the USB socket). They come with a SHORT usb3.0 cable, that needs to go into the socket that supports USB3, but the normal socket will work. I usually use a cable tie, or Velcro cable tidy, to support it at the rear of the TV, or in the bracket. You can use the DEVICE links on the TV to set up so it "sees" the new disk OK, then go to the Time Machine app, check the TV Guide link, select from there, it can create a recording schedule. Once the entry is there, you can edit that schedule (start and stop times, once or weekly etc). DOWNSIDE: the recording function (Time Machine) lacks the intelligence of a Sky or Foxtel box on older smart TV's, but MIGHT be better on recent ones. This may mean that if you program starts EARLY, the title will reflect THAT program on-air at the time, and NOT the programme name of what actually WILL be recording. Deleting them after can be a bit "clunky" and unintuitive with ticking boxes and using the waste-bin icon, but you get used to it over time.
  19. @anand shinde With regard to recording via HDMI, because of DRM and Copyright issues, this connection type uses HDCP technology to stop that. However, some forums show that some HDMI splitters will remove that detection path, and allow screenshots atc, BUT anything else is deemed illegal: See: https://www.tweaking4all.com/home-theatre/remove-hdcp-hdmi-signal/

  22. @Will I guess you are thinking that because it is a "smart" device, and has an operating system and "apps" layered on top of that, it should behave a bit like a PC (or even a server)? That is not the case I am afraid (certainly not outside of manufacturing, and internal development tools, as far as I know). Exposing the OS and the file structure to outside influence, tools etc could do untold damage, break any inbuilt security layers, and might even make it unbootable. Therefore the underlying WebOS is not available for external Browser or Terminal Session login in the normal way. Even if you try to compare it with a modern Router, that you CAN log into, the UI there will always be very restrictive, and only a limited subset of the command set and file structure is available (even from SSH to do CLI stuff) for similar reasons. There IS a developer mode for authorised developers, but that is very controlled, and access is via a developer app, using an accredited account to log in on a development PC or laptop. The API's involved would (AFAIK) only communicate in a specific way, and do not expose any internal file structures, it is just there for deploying and testing apps, and session time is limited to 50 hours. The best you can do if you want to de-clutter your TV and remove the unwanted apps, it to see if your model supports the app deletion in the EDIT mode. Some apps might be "system" ones that might be "pinned" or bundled in, and might not have a remove option. Have a read of this Toms Guide below: https://www.tomsguide.com/us/lg-tv-settings-guide,review-5624-3.html
  23. @lgrowhar I assume your W8 is now on Version 05.10.45? I had an intermittent flicker a while ago on an older (not OLED) LG TV, and it turned out that ONE of my HDMI cables was a low spec one. I changed that out for a known 1.4 spec, and it stopped. If you can ensure yours are 2.0 spec (or even 2.1) at a reasonable price, go for those, as it will "future proof" your connections for a while (especially 2.1)! Just because you might have an old DVD player connected say, don't think it will be OK to use an older low spec cable to connect it to your higher spec TV inputs, as the clock signals and CEC control lines might affect each other, as some data lines may be on a complex data BUS system in the hardware. Clock slew and jitter may affect the way the CPU and firmware handles the high speed data streams.
  24. @furkin Take a read of this, as there may be some settings that might help or mitigate the issue: https://www.lg.com/us/experience-tvs/oled-tv/reliability
  25. @nMaib0 I don't get FREESAT in my country, but I did see some info on another forum: "TV has Freeview HD it will work on Saorview in ROI [or all the FREEVIEW+ channels that your UK regions can get] , the Freesat tuner will also only pick up the free to air channels that are authorised in your region." I saw some advice a user had for setting up che very mixed "channels" that can come in from either tuner, maybe in odd orders. Have a read of this first, to set up "Quick Access", if you have not already: https://www.lg.com/in/support/product-help/CT20150005-20150384421089 NOTE: this users input was for an ROI location, NOT UK, so treat this as examples only, and change details to suit your location and channel availability, and your local requirements: "I set tv up as location Northern Ireland -> Saorview now became Freeview but channels were not in order however it was easy to rearrange these channels as only a few The EPG was fine The FTA satellite channels were now in a decent order ie similar to SKY (bbc at start, gambling etc at the end) The EPG took longer to load and also needed an extra click or two on the menu to choose the program. As mentioned by David from Richer Sounds the two sets of channels are separate. Easiest way I could find for the elder person to navigate between one and the other was below If your LG tv is running Webos 3.5 (e.g. a recent model 2017 onwards ) you can set Quick Access favourites onto buttons 1 to 9 on the remote. Set RTE1 [or your main favourite channel] onto button 1 and BBC 1 in button 2 etc. Now a long-press on 1 brings you to RTE1 (and the saorview/freeview epg) and a long press on 2 brings you to BBC1 and the Freesat epg. If you have the magic remote with voice command you can also say "change channel to BBC1 " etc and you will switch between epgs. Google "webOS-3-5-quick-access" for instructions"
