  1. German site http://die-smartwatch.de is reporting on the rumor of webOS powered smartwatches at CES next month. Translation via Google translate.

"A few weeks ago we reported on LG's may first standalone SmartWatch with a built-LTE module. Now the rumors that those will be operated with webOS.

In October, fueling rumors (we reported), the most likely made a webOS-powered SmartWatch. At the time, published LG accidentally a special page on your website, which was on webOS for smartwatches advertised. After a few minutes that was offline again. It had been an accidental release.

This fact makes with respect to the latest rumors lot of sense: Prefer LG to bring out an independent clock of smartphones, it must be simultaneously dispensed with Android Wear. Just like it did at the Samsung Gear S with Tizen, would also own operating system used. And that will be LG's webOS, which is already used on some televisions of the South Korean manufacturer is used.

Analysts expect the release of wearables in time for CES 2015 in early January in Las Vegas."

  2. CES is a 2 weeks away, what will LG showcase? http://www.cesweb.org/

We already know that webOS 2.0 is coming to LG smart TVs, but now we are hearing that they may have an 8K TV and possibly some new wearables. Are these wearables going to include a webOS smartwatch? We'll have to wait and see, but in the meantime, Engadget has an interesting article about where LG has been and where they think they are going at CES:

With webOS and wearables, LG's moving beyond just displays at CES

"Whereas a continued push into Google's Android Wear is a certainty for LG, its plans to pursue an alternative wearables platform with webOS are not as clear. A few months back, images from a developer page for LG's webOS-based wearables surfaced and were then quickly pulled. But if the company is looking to create its own operating system for wearables, there's a good chance we may hear more about it in the halls of the Las Vegas Convention Center."

  4. LG to launch next version of WebOS 2.0 for smart TVs at CES in January

The company plans to launch the next version of its smart TV platform at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show.

LG says the latest version of WebOS improves on the features first introduced last year by giving viewers access to a wider variety of 4k ultraHD streaming options and making the platform faster overall. It also comes equipped with a new "My Channels" app that allows users to customize their favorite broadcast, cable or set-top box channels.

“By updating webOS with new and smarter features, users will experience a next-generation Smart TV platform that’s simpler, easier and more intuitive than ever before,” LG vice president In-kyu Lee, said in a statement “The webOS 2.0 platform is another example of LG’s commitment to taking a leadership role in the next generation TV market with an innovative Smart TV solution.”

LG introduced WebOS at last year's CES and has since sold more than five million televisions powered by the platform.

webOS 2.0 will make LG's smart TVs much faster next year

The usual pre-CES flood of information is under way, and LG is announcing details of the webOS 2.0 package its smart TVs will ship with in 2015. Improving on the menus we already dug at last year's show, LG says that the new versions will improve mainly in speed, with power-on boot time reduced by 60 percent, and a 70 percent improvement when switching from the home screen to YouTube. Sluggish, unresponsive apps have been a major pain point for "smart" TVs since their introduction, so it's good to see that addressed. One thing that will remain an issue however, is that the 2.0 upgrades will require a new display, as we haven't heard about an upgrade for existing sets (or other platforms like smartwatches, or even phones). According to LG, the first webOS sets were quite popular, with over five million sold through eight months.

If you have one of the new ones, it will include a new "My Channels" app that puts user's favorite TV channels right in the TV menu. Last year's TVs included "Universal control" from the Magic Remote LG ships with each one, and now it's built into the UI so it's easier to stay in one menu. Also upgrades is an Input Picker that recognizes whatever devices are plugged in for easier use, as well as 4K streaming support (on the appropriate TVs) for Amazon and Netflix. If everything holds to form, we should hear more about super size, high res displays with new tech (like quantum dots) over the next few days, before the usual CES flood of information once we hit Las Vegas in early January -- see you then.

  5. LG adds HBO Go to smart TVs

LG announced the addition of the HBO Go on-demand TV service to its smart TVs. HBO Go is available on LG TV's going back to 2012 models. LG said it's the first manufacturer to add HBO Go to its system. The HBO Go comes standard on the Premium Content menu, which is part of the webOS interface used on the most recent LG TVs. Users can also cast content from a smartphone or tablet to the LG TV.

  6. LG to Unveil Quantum Dot-Powered Ultra HD TV at CES 2015

LG Electronics announced today that it will show a 4K Ultra HD LCD TV at CES 2015 powered by quantum dot technology.

Quantum dots replace the traditional RGB filter layer in an LED/LCD TV allowing these TVs to be brighter, with a wider color gamut for richer, more vivid colors. Quantum dots used in the LG TV vary in shape and size from about 2 nanometers to 10 nanometers in diameter. Depending on the size and shape of the dot, each one acts as a different color filter. These dots are arranged in a precise array to filter a pure blue LED light source in order to reproduce a wide spectrum of colors.

LCD TVs powered by quantum dot technology will be part of LG's Ultra HD TV lineup for 2015. The quantum dot TV's will use LG's IPS (In Plane Switching) panel for improved off-axis viewing compared to traditional LCD panels. These new TVs will also include an improved Smart TV Interface powered by WebOS, which the company acquired from HP in 2013.

  7. There are no apple products that have flash either...I don't think its as important as it used to be, its more important for websites and streaming services to adapt and change to HTML5. However, it really isn't up to LG but more up to Adobe to allow the licensing. webOS when it was Palm didn't have flash support either for a while. I'm sure it's more involved than LG just including support, there has to be something behind the scenes with licensing and such. All the bigger sites have adapted by changing to newer technology.
