External HDD & DTS support

Hi everyone,

I'm interested in the OLED BX. I would like to know if it is compatible with a 5TB HDD (to be connected and fed through one of the TV USB port).

LG manuals recommend to connect up to 2TB storage HDDs but don't really state that higher capacity devices are not expected to work.

Then, I'm not sure how are things with DTS support. It seems that DTS decoding is no longer supported on the 2020 tv sets. But LG web page (updated 08/22/2020) titled "Support Video Playback File Type & Codec" still claims that "TV supports DTS audio codec when USB/HDMI video file playback offers it".

Can any of you shed some light on these ones?

@Francesco Rossi The problem with HDD over 2TB, is that they need a partition style of GPT rather than MBR, so a utility will be needed to set them up for reading/writing on a smart TV.

Sorry I don't know about the DTS question (possbilty not).

Many thanks. Browsing the web I've read of several people claiming their HDDs work just fine with recent LG models and they're over 2TB.

I currently own a 2015 Samsung smart tv and it is capable to read 3 HDDs at once (5, 4 and 2 TB). Maybe recent smart TVs can't read GPT hard drives while older ones can?

I'm little confused here and I'd really prefer to know in advance what I'm getting, rather than make a purchase and then be forced to return the tv.

@Francesco Rossi Sorry about the typo in my earlier post. It should read "they need a partition style of GPT".

By the way, I assume you already know that any programmes recorded from the TV to the HDD can ONLY be played back on that TV, as it is in a proprietary format. This is because of DRM and copyright restrictions (that vary widely from country to country).

Currently, I have a Western Digital 4TB drive connected to my 2016 model year LG, cannot say whether a 5TB is going to work though.

Thank you. If a 4TB works, a 5TB is going to do it, as well. I'm just afraid that recent models no longer support high capacity disks or require partitioning.

I have a C8 and 2TB hard disk works just fine without any partition.

I also connected a 10tb wd my book (powered) with 3x3tb partitions and it worked fine without any lags as well.

Hard Disk support is not an issue, it is the power it draws. Just in case yours doesn’t work , get a powered usb hub and connect the HDD to to the tv via the hub. It will definitely work.

playback support - well it will play anything you throw at it including dolby vision remuxes.

Audio wise mine passes thru upto DTS-HD MA.

Since CX has eARC it should be pass thu atmos and dtsX if the media player does play the respective audio track.

I am also looking for DTS support on my Nano90 TV (2022 model) when playing files from a HD
It does not appear to be supported, which is a shame

      It is unprofessional on part of LG TV that they do not resolve the basic issue of adding app gCmob in their app store.

      I can't connect my office camera via Wi-Fi to LG-TV. No body in LG TV technical team is proactive in resolving the issue of customer. They are more happy to befool the customers, rather than looking for technical solution through wider thinking.
      Please talk to you top management and make a visit to our office to understand the customers plight..

      Hello,
      I have a LG C4 OLED 77 inch TV and my GeForce NOW Premium subscription allows up to 2K resolution and I can set 2K on my Android and Windows devices but I can't set it on the TV which allows only 1080p (or 4K for ultimate subscription which I don't have). It would be nice to have that option because it greatly improves the image quality.

      As per the subject line, I have had a USB drive connected to my television for over four years, but for the past few days it has not been recognising the directories where my films and music are organised, and is displaying EVERYTHING in a single list of over a thousand files.
      It is a 1TB drive (half of the maximum 2TB allowed) with a power supply, formatted as NTFS, and not completely full.
      I have checked the drive and it has no bad sectors. I have tried connecting it to both USB ports and all the files are in the permitted format (avi, mkv, mp4, mp3, etc.).
      I have also tried another 1TB drive, but the result is the same.
      Do I need to reconfigure something in the television settings?
      It would be a significant loss if I cannot resolve this issue.

      For native app developers, it would be great to see support for Vulkan graphics API. The requisite parts are already present, including the Mali GPU driver.
      However, the Vulkan ICD file is corrupt on my my TV (webOS 24):
      Here is the file:
