It's 2016 now. IPv6 has been around since 1997. Some countries are close to 50% deployment of IPv6.

Even my home printer supports IPv6.

The Linux kernel, on which webOS is based has been supporting a stable IPv6 implementation since the 2.6 kernel series.

This was certainly my main disappointment when I bought a LG Smart TV.

While IPv6 compatibility would be nice how many people actually need it?  Most homes and even business are still using IPv4 on their internal, which is more than adequate.  Unless you are connecting your TV directly to the internet via an IPv6 enabled ISP the advantages of IPv6 over IPv4 are overkill.   But if I am missing something let me know what please.

I have an OLED55E8 TV which has the option to turn on IPV6 without any explanation as to why I might need it. Should I turn it on?

Are you on an internal network that uses IPV6 or does your TV connect to the internet directly (i.e. not through a NAT enabled router)?  If your answer is yes to either of these then yes enable IPV6.

None of my LAN network IP addresses appear to be the long format IPV6 and the TV does go thru my router to the Internet via a LAN connection.  Safe to leave IPV6 disabled?

Hi ChrisJ,

Yes you should be fine to leave it disabled, the router handles all the incoming and outgoing traffic splitting and forwarding it between the internal and external networks.  The router should be the only device visible to your ISP and if they use IPv6 it would be issued an external IPv6 address externally, the internal network it would have a IPv4 address.

On my new 55C8, if I use IPV6, it mess up totally the automatic internal network. it's very buggy.

My network is on 196.168.1.xxx and it choose everytime another subnetwork (192.168.0.xxx with the wrong gateway).

If I change it manually , it works, but everytime I turn off/on the tv, it overwrite my manuel settings.

To keep my manual configuration I had to disabled IPV6.

I know this was mentioned before. I'd like to support this.
WebOS is such a great and versatile system; a real media centre. BUT: I have a number of video files that it simply doesn't play. VLC, e.g. does, but is not available.
To me it is such a pity that I have to have a system in parallel (actually a PC!) to play those files, with VLC, and then switch to HDMI to watch the clips on my TV. This doesn't look very much like 2026, as far as I am concerned.
To give an example, in which nothing is spectacular, and yet it doesn't play:

Better yet: add something like VLC or at least Dragon. Make it available; even if the warranty was void, I'd prefer to load such an application.
      Thanks for pondering!

I recently bought a 50NANO90A6B TV and so far I have to say it's a fantastic upgrade from my old Sony 40".
However, I've one small niggle problem (only had the TV since Sunday)... The YouTube app doesn't seem to want to work! it shows the logo with a spinny circle, then the logo starts again with the spinny circle... this just repeats over and over.
All other apps (iPlayer, Jellyfin, Plex, ITV, CH4 etc...) work as does the LGTV app, so the WiFi connection is fine!
I've uninstalled and reinstalled the YouTube app a few times, but it does the same each time!
Anyone know how I can sort this? any other suggestions for fixing it!
I'm currently using my Chromecast with GoogleTV for YouTube at the moment.
I'm in the UK by the way! And the TV is set to that, in all the relevant settings locations.

      Hello all,
I believe this problem started after i accidently started and immediately cancelled the download of a app. After this I am unable to install or update any app evem after resetting to initial settings.
This should be the exact problem found here https://www.lgwebos.com/topic/1918-because-i-can however the solution seems to require a new update. Help?

      Hello there!
Recently the prime video app started to require the update to open, and now i am having a problem, because this app update REQUIRES to a system update of firmware (to webos24),
but it will make impossible to homebrew later.
So, can someone at least provide the last or update ipk of amazon (amazon.ipk), so i can install manually?
      Thanks!
