  1. Dare say this issue is more to do with cheap LG products rather than the WebOS but worth a try anyway. Bought my TV in 2017 LG 43UJ630V 43 inch 4K Ultra HD HDR Smart LED TV (2017 Model) Apart from usual 'out of memory errors' watching YouTube that have never been resolved by LG and difficulty finding a suitable USB Hard Disk for local recordings (Toshiba works well) the set has been quite good particularly streaming Amazon and Now TV channels as well as my PLEX Server Media. Sadly howeve this almost two years old set has now begun to show screen display problems with a dimming overall and blotchy patches most visible on light grey images but permanent. This is a major disappointment with a product costing around £500 just a couple of years ago so people, be warned.
  2. Well I thought I had found a fix (above post) some time ago to the YouTube app 'Restarting.....' error LG deny happens but this has returned again now so I'm out of suggestions other than don't buy LG TV's if you want Smart features that actually work! Better off getting a cheap add on like the latest Roku stick paired with a much less expensive 'dumb' TV. Also the current YouTube app is now dreadful as well as it keeps refreshing to fresh screen, really wish devs would stop playing around with formats just for the sake of it.
  3. Update: After much email discussion with LG Support and trying most of the helpful suggestions here and elsewhere I concluded there was a fault with my Toshiba HDD controller/power supply so returned it for refund and got a WD My Passport AV TV Portable External Hard Drive for Recordable TV's 1TB USB and voila! can now, finally, enjoy perfect recordings & time shift as advertised by LG. Even though LG recommend/advise using a drive with independent power supply (hard to find) this WD works fine direct from TV USB port. This WD also comes with a handy dandy cradle that fixes to the back of the TV so it is all hidden away nicely behind the set.
  4. Let's trust the 'update' released yesterday does indeed fix this and other LG WebOs or TV issues. Interestingly I received a reply to a request for help from LG Tech about my Hard Disk recordings stopping after 3 minutes. LG actually advised me previously to use a USB Hard Disk & not a USB Stick as the sticks don't work despite advertising to the contrary. They informed me it should be a USB 2.0 compatible device. I purchased a 1Tb one. It is powered from the USB port, less than 5v as stated in the LG User Guide. Tech misread my email and assumed I was using a USB Stick. Then said LG TV will not work reliably with USB powered Hard Disk. I have asked them to give me the name or details of a USB hard disk LG know actually does work with the only 1 single USB port on this TV set or refund me cost of trying multiple hard disks until I find the 'one' that does what LG advertise/promise their 'smart' TV's will do. Not holding my breath.
  5. Sadly LG will not have anything to say about all this ... it seems they simply don't care. Besides they probably know this defunct phone app - WebOs - is not really up to the job but don't want to spend any money using Android or another solid OS. The memory errors TV's report probably don't actually have anything to do with the actual memory rather the way it is managed by the OS. The other main issue I have with WebOs is with the external hard drive used for encrypted recordings. Yesterday for example a motor race recording record I was keen to view was aborted after about 20 mins. with a 'file not recognised' error! Drive is an LG recommended one and in perfect working condition but WebOs just can't handle it properly. As others have said, 'Smart' TV's really are just a sales gimmick and not worth the extra money charged.
  6. Clearly after having this issue reported now for a long time LG have no intention of bothering to fix it let alone apologise to all the suckers who bought these overpriced, unreliable TV's. From what I could gather and my personal experience the closest 'solution' that almost works is to A. ensure only one internet connection is turned on, either Ethernet or WiFi but not both - note that YouTube will turn WiFi on everytime it updates. B. Uninstall YouTube, eject any connected hard drives & disconnect it - very important otherwise you will probably trash the disk and loose any recorded stuff - then switch off the set and unplug it. C. wait a least 15 mins for set to clear cache/memory etc. D. reconnect hard disk, switch back on, let it all boot for a while then re-install YouTube. Pray. If you are fortunate you might get a day or two without the 'restart....' error but I doubt it. As Thatboizee has said use a third party solution like his or get a streaming stick like Roku for all the 'smarts' LG cannot actually deliver with WebOS and TV hardware. Or return the *rap & get a refund the only way to get LG to listen is to vote with your wallet it seems.
  7. Thanks, perhaps the next time LG wipe the disk I'll try your suggestion.
  8. Magdyfarag: TV Model is: LG 43UJ630V 43 inch 4K Ultra HD HDR Smart LED TV (2017 Model) - with latest UK WebOs Hard Disk is: 1TB USB 2.0 External Portable 2.5" HDD - No brand name. Designed to power from USB port. Windows 10 Basic Primary Partition NTFS Healthy There is only one USB port provided on this model so cannot swap over ports to check this. Thanks for your help.
  9. Had the same issue with YouTube restarting. Tried all the suggestions mentioned above but none worked. Finally another forum member found that having both Ethernet and WiFi connections running was the causing the restart problem. I did have bother type of wired and wireless connections so turned off the WiFi wherever I could in Settings and voila restart problem fixed for me. fi
  10. Had the same problem, LG support were useless only advising TV's are not like smart phones so customers who purchased them thinking the smart TV features would actually work were mistaken so there! Anyway after trying all the 'fixes' people suggested such as turning off Quick Start and other 'features' and finding this made no difference I saw another solution a member found. This member like me had both Ethernet and WiFi connections enabled and by turning off the WiFi everywhere it is enabled this fixed the YouTube restarting error. I tried this and it has worked for me as well, no more annoying YouTube restarting errors - so far! Now if I can just get this pile of doo doo TV to stop reformatting my recording hard drive I might have an OK set.
  11. OK after being misled by false advertising and disappointed to find my 2017 LG 'smart' TV only has one USB drive and that is incapable of recording to a USB flash stick like my six years old Toshiba could easily do I went ahead and purchased a 1 Tb USB 2.0 Hard Disk - as recommended by LG Support. Well guess what, shortly after recording about a dozen movies and programs on this disk the TV WebOs wiped the disk forcing me to take it out and reformat it again on my PC. As usual with this LG rubbish I sighed and reinstalled the disk. For two weeks it worked fine then, yesterday, LG issued a WebOs 'update' and yup, you guessed it, this wiped my hard disk yet again. This time I ran disk check utilities and certified the drive and cable is fine, no errors found. So if anyone has any knowledge of why the TV keeps corrupting the drive I would appreciate it.
  12. JohnV: Interesting and definitely something else owners with this issue can easily check for. In my case I went into settings\network\wi-fi and made sure that wi-fi was disabled. Although I noted that that would also disable the Wi-Fi Direct option which may be important to some people. I have left set connected via ethernet and will monitor YouTube etc. for crashes meanwhile.
  13. Inbloomwithyou: LG136Aug17 No solution as far as I know - other than buying a reliable TV of course - LG support are useless on this issue, suggestions to disable Quick Start+ don't work. Neither does holding Home, Close App etc. From my correspondence with these 'support' people I believe there is no solution while LG use this old WebOs phone app. Seems that LG are OK with screen tech but rubbish with the software to make TV's 'smart'. Send it back & get a refund because it does not do what they advertise it as being able to do. By the way just got another YouTube update for my WebOs TV and it just makes the 'restart' problem worse - so clearly no tech liaison with Google about this either which indicates LG just don't care.
  14. Totally agree. There are far too many apologists for LG on this forum prepared to put up with 3rd rate software on expensive LG TV's pretending to offer 'smart TV' functionality when in reality a cheap HDMI streaming stick or Android box will do a far better job at a tenth of the cost. Guess many people see the reviews from dealers and and others and believe a TV will actually do what the manufacturers claim but that is not their fault is it? Forums like this are either a 'sap' to keep LG/WebOS tech support calls to a minimum or total baloney because as far as I can see LG or the WebOS team take not the blindest bit of notice either way.
  15. Unfortunately the November YouTube update has made the memory restart issue worse than before, it now crashes more frequently if anything and still no adequate solution offered by LG or Google, My solution was to forget the flaky WebOS apps, installed a cheap Roku streaming stick and now enjoy zillions of apps including YouTube that all work perfectly.
  16. This problem with YouTube/WebOS has been seen for at least three years. Neither LG or Google are interested in fixing it or so it seems. Calls to LG Support are not helpful either. YouTube was updated the other day and the out of memory error is now more frequent than before! Suggest people buy Samsung or Panasonic instead of LG as even my six years old Toshiba has a better smart tv OS than this awful WebOS rubbish.
  17. Still getting the oft reported out of memory error with latest 2017 smart tv's running very latest WebOS and App updates. So annoying LG cannot fix this problem which as been ongoing since at least 2015.ti little more than trite suggestions to re-start the TV or remove unused Apps etc. Problem seems to be either insufficient memory installed to run WebOS apps properly or a major problem with WebOS ability to properly manage what memory there is. Combined with pitifull lack of USB ports quickly occupied with hard drive if recording and time machine functionality is required the 'smart' features seem poor compared to other manufacturers now.
  18. Seems to be WebOS is generally flaky in LG TV's. Most common error with Apps is the 'Restarting app to free up memory ...' error that has been seen for years on LG TV's - basically LG don't install sufficient memory to run WebOS apps properly.
  19. Try to manufacture 'smart tv's' with sufficient memory to actually run the WebOS apps you claim they can run without those apps crashing with 'out of memory....' errors. This has plagued LG TV's for years and LG still do nothing about it. Memory modules are really low cost items and 32Gb would be a minimum. This might also negate the necessity of having to use separate USB Hard Disk for basic recording and time machine functionality to work something other smart TV manufacturers managed to achieve years ago.
  20. Would seem LG TV's simply don't have sufficient internal memory to run these apps. Support is frankly useless and the only solution is to return the set for a full refund as no fit for purpose or put up with this. IMHO the sets are overpriced, have only average sound even through LG soundbar, flacky WebOS and standard definition broadcast TV is below average quality of picture. HD is slightly better and 4k video, when you can find it, nothing special either. Would not recommend or buy LG again. November: YouTube app for WebOS was updated but sadly the 'This app will now restart to free up memory...' error, which has been reported for over three years, continues to plague these poor TV's so I assume LG & Google are incapable of fixing the issue or simply don't care and LG certainly are not going to refund all their customers conned into buying this rubbish let alone send engineers round to install adequate hardware.
  21. Finally got a helpful response from LG who suggested a model HDD that should work, it was not different the two I first asked about but anyway I have now obtained a great little 1 Tbyte USB 2.0 HDD from a UK company on Ebay - it is a repackaged WD I believe under the HardDrives For You brand. It is plug n play and works perfectly first time with no formatting or set up needed - brilliant little device with nice bright blue connected light to illuminate the back of the TV. Tested with multiple scheduled recordings, live time machine etc. and last this LG TV does what they claimed when I bought it. Shame they couldn't manage to get it to work with a Flash Drive though.
  22. Noticed UK Freesat Satellite TV Guide does have a filter to view by Genre but the antenna Freeview guide does not have this feature/function - why not?
  23. Thanks Nemilose for your reassurance, I'll give it a go and post results.
  24. Make 2017 TV sets that have latest USB ports, at least 3.0 so it is possible to find a compatible USB HDD WebOS will work properly with. Install sufficient memory to run WebOS Apps without constant restarts or inform customers apps may not work properly. Put a clearly accessible filer by Genre choice from the main program guide (something Toshiba TV and others have had for many years on their EPG's). Going out of the main EPG into the limited snapshot guide then finding the sort by Genre option is clunky. A zoom function on the main EPG to show more than just a couple of hours ahead would be ideal as well. Even my £70 supermarket own brand TV can manage these simple functions so come on LG match up.
  25. Wonder if anyone might be able to suggest a suitable USB Hard Disk Drive for my LG 43UJ630V 43 inch 4K Ultra HD HDR Smart LED TV (2017 Model) I did ask LG support about why these TV's cannot record properly to USB Flash Drives and they just said it doesn't work - not what they advertise is it? They informed me the recording will work with USB Hard Drive but did not suggest any suitable models which given the TV's seot em to be using USB 2.0 and all available USB HDD now are at least USB 3.0 I would appreciate informed suggestions as to compatible models. The two I suggested to LG support were these which they state are not compatible. - Toshiba Canvio Basics 1TB Portable External Hard Drive 2.5 Inch USB 3.0, HDTB310EK3AA - Seagate Expansion 1 TB USB 3.0 Portable 2.5 inch So which models are compatible and why are LG using slow, years out of date, USB 2.0 in 2017anyway?
