Agreement Highlights Company’s Global Leadership in Wi-Fi Standard Technologies
SEOUL, Nov. 20, 2025 — LG Electronics (LG) has signed a patent license agreement with Amazon, granting the use of LG’s Wi-Fi Standard Essential Patents (SEPs).
Under this agreement, Amazon obtains a license to use LG’s Wi-Fi SEPs in products utilizing Wi-Fi connectivity, including Amazon’s Echo devices, Fire TV Sticks and Fire Tablets.
LG is currently engaged in Wi-Fi SEP licensing discussions with several global companies that employ Wi-Fi standard technologies. The agreement with Amazon further underscores LG’s technological leadership and credibility in the global Wi-Fi standards domain.
SEPs refer to core patents that must be practiced when implementing an international technical standard – meaning any product using that standard inevitably relies on the patented technology. Once a technology is adopted as an international standard by global standardization organizations, companies around the world incorporate it into their products. Recognition as an SEP signifies both the contribution to advancing the entire industry and its technological value.
LG holds one of the world’s strongest patent portfolios in key standard technology fields, including mobile communications, Wi-Fi, broadcasting and codecs. As of the first half of this year, LG owned 97,880 registered patents globally, about half of which are standard-related patents.* The company’s innovative patented technologies, applied across flagship products such as OLED TVs, washing machines and refrigerators, continue to reinforce its global competitiveness.
Looking ahead, LG aims to further strengthen its patent leadership in emerging technology areas such as 6G mobile communications, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communications, artificial intelligence (AI) and quantum computing. In its vehicle solutions business, LG has also been recognized for leadership in augmented reality (AR) technologies, earning top honors for its pioneering AR navigation patent.
Since 2022, LG has formally included the licensing of patents and other intellectual property rights in its corporate charter – accelerating efforts to build sustainable value through IP-driven innovation.
“This agreement reaffirms LG’s global leadership in Wi-Fi standard technologies,” said Cho Hwi-jae, head of LG’s Intellectual Property Center. “We will continue to drive innovation worldwide by building on our industry-leading patent competitiveness.”

I have a LG OLED55C14LB WebOS TV in the same room as my xubuntu desktop computer and router.
I have installed Gnome Network Displays on the Linux PC and both machines are on the same 5G network.
When I connect the PC to the TV via WiFi the TV puts up a 'cancel' option and no option to connect. The Network display app only has an option to 'Return' which closes the connection.
If I do nothing and wait the connection times out and returns to the TV program. The TV is obviously waiting for permission to connect.
I cannot see any way to 'accept' the connection via the TV remote. Can anyone tell me how to accept the connection?
In addition, is it possible to have the TV remember the WiFi password? Passwords are complex nowadays and it is a pain to keep having to input it. This make casting your desktop a chore.

I visited Best Buy asking which TV’s Included ATSC 3.0 Tuners. The sales person stated that all Samsung Models did but only some High End Models of LG did. When will all LG TV’s come with ATSC 3.0 Tuners?

LG Continues to Lead Future Vehicular Software Development
by Acquiring Both Functional Safety and Cybersecurity Certifications
SEOUL, March 30, 2023 — LG Electronics (LG) is the first player to meet international testing standards for functional safety and cybersecurity management for vehicles. LG annually updates required certifications for its hardware and software solutions for electric vehicle components through leading global testing organization, TÜV Rheinland.
A respected player in the rapidly growing EV components industry, LG has consistently complied with international regulations and participated in key certification programs. To lead the field of vehicle safety, LG is committed to securing the technical capabilities both at the employee and the organizational level.
Recently, LG research engineer Kim Min-kyu obtained the Automotive Functional Safety Expert qualification, becoming the second individual ever to do so since the qualification program was established in 2011. Also, LG acquired functional safety certification for its ADAS front camera in the ‘4M’ (Material, Method, Machine, Man) categories in 2022. The company’s vehicle components also comply with the Cyber Security Management System (CSMS) – the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe’s (UNECE) regulation No. 155 (UN R155).
“With the rising importance of vehicle security and safety regulations in the global auto industry, acquiring certification for our auto components and technologies is key to maintaining competitiveness,” said Eun Seok-hyun, President of LG Vehicle component Solutions (VS) Company. “LG will continue to comply with the latest standards and grow its capabilities in safety and security to provide our customers with even more reliable solutions.”

LG has built stellar track records maintaining its innovation at the highest level of quality and reliability. Already in 2018, LG secured technical certification for Functional Safety Management (FSM) in infotainment development, and in 2021, its Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) front camera passed assessments for functional safety (product and processes) based on ISO 26262 – an international functional safety standard for the development of electrical and electronic systems for vehicles.
LG also plans to lead future trends in autonomous driving, where functional safety will be centered on the fast-growing area of Safety of The Intended Functionality (SOTIF). SOTIF is becoming increasingly important as the entire auto industry seeks to incorporate and expand the use of various advanced technologies in their vehicles, including artificial intelligence (AI), high-definition maps, sensor data interfaces and cybersecurity applications.
