This new series of solutions has earned the CES 2026 Best of Innovation Award in In-Vehicle Entertainment, marking the first time the LG Vehicle Solution Company has won the category’s top honor. The system brings together cutting-edge display technology, advanced in-cabin sensing, and on-device AI under a comprehensive AI-Defined Vehicle architecture. The AI Cabin Platform analyzes the driving environment and the driver’s condition using data from internal and external vehicle cameras, enabling real-time personalized assistance. For example, if a nearby vehicle begins merging and the system detects that the driver has not yet noticed it, the platform can proactively issue a tailored alert: “A car is merging ahead. Please keep your eyes on the road and drive safely.” Additionally, the platform supports generation of customized infotainment user interfaces that adapt to external conditions. If the driver is listening to music on a snowy evening, the system can generate a matching background for the music playback screen – such as snow falling between streetlights or a festively-decorated village – and offer context-aware suggestions like: “It’s a beautiful snowy night. Shall I recommend some winter-themed songs?” Earlier this year at CES 2025, LG and Qualcomm Technologies highlighted their ongoing collaboration by unveiling the HPC platform – a high-performance computing solution that integrates IVI and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) into a single control unit. This year marks a special milestone for LG Electronics: the 50th anniversary of our Gasan R&D Campus, the birthplace of many innovations that have reshaped how people live. To celebrate the occasion, we held a commemorative event at the Campus located in Gasan-dong, southwestern Seoul, under the banner “50 Years of Technology and Passion, a Promise for Tomorrow.” The event brought together key figures from the Campus’s past and present – including research center heads and former division leaders – to reflect on a shared journey and reaffirm our commitment to advancing the global home appliance industry. Founded in December 1975 as the Goldstar Central Research Lab, and at that time located within the company’s headquarters, the Gasan R&D Campus was the first privately established research facility in Korea. At a time when most companies maintain small R&D teams inside their factories, LG made a bold and forward-thinking decision to establish a centralized campus in the Seoul metropolitan area. Decades later, this decision appears prescient, with the Gasan R&D Campus having time and again proven itself invaluable to our company’s mission – to make life better for customers around the globe. Beginning with just 10 researchers in a small, crowded workspace, the team quickly made history by developing one of Korea’s first domestically produced electronic POS cash registers in 1977. Energized by this early success, the lab continued to set new milestones for the nation’s electronics industry. It pioneered Korea’s first electronic Korean-English bilingual typewriter and independently developed Custom ICs, establishing in-house capabilities for semiconductor design and manufacturing. Building on these achievements, the lab rapidly expanded its scope from office and banking equipment to everyday home appliances – transforming fans, refrigerators and washing machines into electronically controlled, microprocessor-equipped devices. As projects multiplied and talent grew, the lab relocated to the Guro Industrial Complex, laying the foundation for what would ultimately become a powerhouse of home appliance innovation. Today, the Campus spans 20 floors above ground and five basement levels, home to specialized laboratories like the Clothing Science Lab and Air‑Science Lab. It has powered the development of category‑leading and life‑improving innovations to market. Among these are the LG Styler clothing care system; the world’s first Direct Drive (DD) motors for washing machines; linear compressors for refrigerators; and ThinQ UP appliances, which constantly evolve to meet users’ changing needs. The Campus also drives breakthroughs in advanced materials. Observing that enamel glass powder is commonly used on interior metal surfaces of electric ranges in major global markets, our researchers set out to create an easier to clean alternative. Company Unites Global Automotive Leaders to Drive Open-Source Innovation and Streamline SDV Development, Leveraging Proven Platform Expertise and Leadership SEOUL, Dec. 4, 2025 — LG Electronics (LG), a global leader in mobility technologies, is advancing the software-defined vehicle (SDV) landscape as co-host of the Eclipse SDV Community Meetup, a developer-focused event dedicated to building an automotive open-source software ecosystem. Through this forum of global tech leaders, LG aims to accelerate the standardization and adoption of next-generation automotive software and reinforce its leadership in SDV innovation. Held on December 4 at LG Sciencepark in Seoul, the Eclipse SDV Community event marks its South Korean debut in collaboration with the Eclipse Foundation, an international non-profit that drives open-source software ecosystem development. In addition to LG, the meetup brings together other key players including BMW, ETAS and Hyundai Mobis to present new projects and discuss open-source standardization strategies that will drive the industry forward. A single vehicle today contains more than 100 million lines of code – a number expected to grow significantly in the SDV era. Around 70 percent of this software covers non-differentiating, foundational technologies such as operating systems, security and authentication tools, and communication frameworks. Despite this overlap, automakers and suppliers often develop these basics independently, resulting in duplicated effort and unnecessary resource consumption. The Eclipse SDV Community aims to unify the industry around shared software foundations through open-source collaboration. By jointly developing standardized components, automakers can reduce cost and development time, enabling greater focus on differentiated innovations such as In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Since 2018, LG has been operating its webOS Open-Source Edition (OSE), equipping the company with the know-how to play a pivotal role in the Eclipse SDV ecosystem. With this expertise, LG has worked alongside partners like BMW and Mercedes-Benz to advance the SDV Community Reference (S-CORE) project, which focuses on aligning shared software building blocks to eliminate duplication, shorten development and delivery timelines as well as enhance safety and reliability. Further to its participation in key Eclipse SDV projects, LG is actively proposing and leading new initiatives, such as the Pullpiri project. The project aims to develop technologies that enable a variety of differentiated solutions to operate reliably and evolve continuously on the S‑CORE foundation. LG also serves on the board of Scalable Open Architecture for Embedded Edge (SOAFEE), a global automotive open-source standardization organization.
