jpg photos not displayed via dlna

frpatte

Question

Bonjour,

I have a Webos TV: LG 43UM 7450

Since the last software update, I can't display my photos which are on a dlna home server. films and audio files are displayed and can be played on the TV, only the pictures are not: "directories empty" says the bird?

The names of the directories, the dates of photos, the name of the camera are displayed, so the TV has an access to the exif metadta but not to the image itself!!

What can be done?

Thank you for helping.

@frpatte Unless you have a USB stick with the previous working firmware on it,there is no way to get back to the working level.

Have you reported this issue to your local country LG support? The more that report it, the better chance you have of (eventually) getting a fix.

By the way, in case they have changed some DLNA protocols for technical/security reasons, check that your DLNA devices have the latest firmware and software layers (apps) installed.

Thank you for this answer.

1- What is the way to get the firmware for my TV. I would have it (and how to install it) in case that at the next upgrade, films or audio from my nas won't work!

2- I will report the issue to the french lg support.

3- I tried several dlna server (minidla, emby, kodi...) The result is the same for the photos: metadata only are read by the tv! So, I can choose to watch what are the camera I used, when I take the photos, but I can't see the photos.

Regards.

@frpatte OK, just to confirm: What is the firmware version that recently installed, was it 05.00.02 or 05.00.10?

If the later one, try downloading the older one, and put it on a USB stick and install it on the TV. If the older one (05.00.02), was the one installed recently, and caused the issue, see below:

link hidden, please login to view

Put in your model number 43UM7450PLA and you will get a list of 2 firmware versions, 05.00.10 with a December date, and 05.00.02 with a November date. You can select the older one if the newer one was updated via an OTA update, and caused the issue, OR if you are still on the older one, then DO download the newer one, as it fixes "minor bug fixes" that MIGHT include your issue (it does NOT expand on what those are). You will need to download that on your Laptop/PC, into a known folder for you to UNZIP it to place the file inside it into its own area, so that you can then copy it to the ROOT of a USB stick (i.e. F:\<firmware file name> and NOT within a folder. Download the  Software Update Guide PDF and follow the instructions for a USB upgrade.

Thank you for your help. The firmware on my TV is 05.00.10. I downloaded the 05.00.02  as you suggested, but I can't install it on the TV. I unzipped the file, copy it at the root of an usb stick and when I open this stick on the TV, 3 icons open (video, music, recording) each are seen as empty and nothing else is proposed.

I tried to make a directory LG_DTV and copy the firmware in it,  as suggested by the "update software update guide" found on the same page as the firmware, but this fails too.

What is the right way to replace the firmware?

Thank you.

@frpatte Thanks for the feedback. I assume the file that you saw when you unzipped the downloaded file, was:

"starfish-dvb-secured-k5lp-539.gyeryongsan.k5lp-53902-05.00.02_prodkey_usb_V3_SECURED.epk"  is that correct?

NOTE: to see "file-types" (file extensions, like the .EPK on the end of the file above) in File Explorer on Windows 7 or Windows 10, you need to ensure that the  View options have the File Nem Extensions box ticked (I tend to have the Hidden Files one as well, as I do system admin work).

On the TV side, did you use the "Stay" option, as in the install PDF when you inserted the stick? Then it MIGHT allow the older level to install, BUT the install routine might ignore it of it is BELOW the current level. If that is the case, then you will have to wait for the next update from LG.

NOTE: going into the Smartshare or similar media file display/play APP trying to look at the USB contents, will ONLY show the types of files that IT is designed to show or play, so you will NOT see files like .EPK firmware files, or .BIN files etc. even though they may be there.

I did not see any "Stay" or other invite button when I plugged the stick in. I could only go to the connection tab and click on the usb button.

If the TV does not allow to downgrade the system, is there a mean to turn off this interdiction?

      Hey everyone,
I'm new here, so first of all, hello I'm delos.
I own two LG OLED55G19 TVs, one at home and one elsewhere. At home, I have a QNAP NAS (TS451) with DLNA functionality. Accessing it at home works great.
The "Home" and "External" networks are connected via VPN. Thus, both networks have different network addresses.
Now I want to access the home network from the external network with the LG via VPN in order to integrate the DLNA server. The LG doesn't "see" the external server because it's not in the same network. However, I wonder why you can't just enter the IP address of the server in the LG.
      Does anyone have a solution?

      Many greetings
      delos

Our LG TV does not show files properly when a new file is added in a directory.
We have a Synology diskstation ethernet drive with DLNA and if we download a new file (in the dedicated download folder) or we copy a file from a PC to a folder, the file is not seen in the LG TV.
Sometimes it's there in few minutes, sometimes it's not visible for days! turn on&off is not working.
If we want to watch a video we need to load it on a USB stick, which is definitely not nice in 2019.
Looking at synology forums the DLNA file list should be automatically updated when a new file is added, is there any way to force refresh from LG app?

      Thanks

Hey, I have 3 NAS (DLNA) successfully connected to my OLED65C97LA since months and from one day to another all three have the same issue. So I must be a bug in LG TV? But I do not know what to do?
      - I can click on all 3 DLNA and its open a choice box for "music" or "image and video".
      - Click on all 3 DLNA for "music" and I get access to this DLNA and see my music files and can play it.
      - Click on all 3 DLNA für "image and video" and I get now only a black screen. I can move the cursor and open menus, but DLNA is black.
Am I the only one with this problem?

I recently bought a LG TV with WebOS version 8.1 and have a frustrating issue.
I have a usb disk with all my family photos & videos archive in it.
We love to browse through the pictures and videos on big screen.
But current LG TV media player displays either pictures or videos. I want to see them in the order they were captured.
It would be great to enable this feature when "Photos & Videos" filter is selected.
