Question

Posted

Hello

After plugging in a usb hard drive, I discovered that I can only watch a programme while recording  another from "Antenae" recording.

How do I  switch back to "TV" recording please.

Regards

@Alanf I reread your original post, and it seems that I misinterpreted what you posted about, BUT your post is not very clear about the issue. So, can you please clarify the questions below:

1) Have you already added a NEW HDD drive to one of your USB sockets on the TV already, and you are able to record live TV successfully?

2) If above is correct, are you then trying ANOTHER USB device with photos/music etc, then find it hard to get back to TV functions, or to the recorded schedule?

3) please carify what you mean by "How do I switch back to TV recording" (i.e. the Time Machine schedule, or something else)?

NOTE: if playing back photos/music/mp4 from aUSB stick, it is best to CLOSE (EXIT) the playback app that is used, so that the USB stick can be safely removed. Once removed, you should be returned to the previous function or programme. If not, use the "return" button.

So kind of you to come back to me.

1) Yes I did put a portable hard drive in and it does record onto that portable drive.

2) No, not another. I want to get back to the original tv recording with no  portable HD

3) I explain this one below

Your NOTE: I think I did exit/return. I will try again

When I first bought the tv, I did not use a portable HD. I recorded off the TV succesfully.  With nothing used of my own, I assumed that the tv has a hard drive itself.  (Doesn't matter what I thought !)Then I used my portable HD and found out that  you could not record while watching another programme. (I live and learn!)  Because of that, I  decided to remove the HD and found that when I scheduled a recording,  a message came up saying "Please put in a HD" (or similar wording")

So that's it. It tells me to put in an HD and I want to know how to get back to recording without my portable HD.

PLease let me know if I am not clear enough.

Keep well.

Alan

@Alanf Thanks for the clarification. I do NOT believe that ANY LG TV's come with an internal HDD or SSD for recording, so I am at a loss to know HOW you successfully recorded anything to watch later (unless you had some sort of "cloud" app that you subscribed to, using an Internet Cloud based service)? There is very little normal memory inside smart TV's to use for recording functions, it is used for the WebOS, and the app storage, and data buffers. My old Samsung had a few MB of memory allocated for a 30 second "pause" of live TV, but that was all it had.

I suspect that once you had set up your HDD for PROPER TV based recording, your TV now needs to go back to that do do the job it was designed to do. Why did you need to remove that to "defeat" your Time Machine based recording function?

That is strange, I was messing about with the new tv for a few days before I put in my HD. I recorded only two films so maybe there was enough memory to do that.

Thanks so much for everything, due to you I did research so I have learned a lot.

Enjoy Christmas

Alan

Hi, I have a feature request for the sound out setting. I often connect my Bluetooth headphones to the TV. We don't use the internal speaker of the TV, we use the optical sound out setting whenever I don't use Bluetooth. It would make our lives a lot easier if the TV can remember the last sound out setting before connecting to Bluetooth and default back to this setting when the Bluetooth device gets disconnected. At the moment, each time I disconnect the headphones I have to go back into settings and change the sound out setting from internal speaker to optical again.
      Thanks and regards

I have recently allowed a software update on my LG tv and now my DVD recorder automatically turns my tv back on when a recording stops and and when I had already manually turned off both recorder and tv.  This is particularly when it happens in the very early morning!  How do I stop this. I am a pensioner and not a tech nerd!

As per the subject line, I have had a USB drive connected to my television for over four years, but for the past few days it has not been recognising the directories where my films and music are organised, and is displaying EVERYTHING in a single list of over a thousand files.
It is a 1TB drive (half of the maximum 2TB allowed) with a power supply, formatted as NTFS, and not completely full.
I have checked the drive and it has no bad sectors. I have tried connecting it to both USB ports and all the files are in the permitted format (avi, mkv, mp4, mp3, etc.).
I have also tried another 1TB drive, but the result is the same.
Do I need to reconfigure something in the television settings?
It would be a significant loss if I cannot resolve this issue.
Thank you in advance for your responses.
