Can't install or update

Question

Posted

New TV. 55" LED. Plugged into wired network. Settings look good for network.

Cannot update OS, install or update apps.

"Failed to ... Try again later"

What's up with this? Lots of posts about WebOS sucking. But, this is not working much at all.

Hi @lsitongia

However, the flip side of lots of posts about webOS sucking there are those that are happy with it, but your mileage may vary from other forum users.

All I can suggest for your problem is if you know how to alter the DNS settings on your modem/router set them to Google's services: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

Some ISP DNS servers are known to cause problems with initial setup of webOS so this may help you as well, if Google's DNS setting do not help there are many more to try:

Thank you for your help and explanations.

Changing the DNS configuration didn't help. From the ISP servers or Google servers, the software update and app installs appear to download successfully (from the progress bar). But, the update or installation fail. My interpretation of this is that WebOS can contact the server, get the software, but cannot install it.

I want to add another post to this thread, but since I posted last, it appears that my new "answer" is being appended to the one I last wrote, which was from about four hours ago.

Anyway, the TV suddenly started working right. I don't know why. I turned it on and got an alert that the system had been updated (I had previously enabled auto-update). Now apps are also installing. So, all is now as I expected it to be.

The new answer had the previous answer's text in it, and I didn't know that I had to delete that text before typing my "answer".

Hi @lsitongia

Glad things are working for you now, annoying that you cannot pinpoint exactly what the issue was though.

I've just updated my LG 55UM75 TV to the latest software version - 05..20.15 - and now the picture looks off.
I've turned off TruMotion, Motion Eye Care, Smooth Gradation, Noise Reduction and Smooth Gradation, but somehow everything still looks artificial.
Is there another picture setting I'm missing, I've gone through every setting I can find.

      Hi there,

I have an LG smart TV OLED65G36LA (LG OS v03.20.17, webOS TV version 8.20.0-710) , and the Prime Video App was no longer able to update (from Dec 2025) and therefore could no longer be used.
I have tried uninstalling the app and re-installing, and that was unable to work, so then applied a full reset on the LG TV and so had to reinstall all of my other apps (Apple TV, Netflix, etc etc) which all successfully downloaded so confirmed network connections and setup are all confirmed working.
When I try to download the Prime Video app, it remains stuck on the download screen and is unable to update.
      Thanks

      Hi,
Since updating our OLED65G2PSA to 23.20.56, we experience sprodadic issues with the network where any app requiring network access shows the generic 'no network access' message.
I have found that when this does happen, I can still PING the TV and connect to IP based web pages.  To fix I can either power cycle the TV or I can go into network settings and toggle off/on 'Set automatically' which must just be triggering something in the underlying OS to reload its DNS service.
Setting a static IP makes no difference, setting a static DNS server makes no difference - it is clearly a software issue.  We have had a TV repair company come and replace the boards, which worked right up untill updating to 23.20.56 and beyond.

Has anyone else experienced this, does anyone have a solution ?
