@anand shinde  With regard to recording via HDMI, because of DRM and Copyright issues, this connection type uses HDCP technology to stop that. However, some forums show that some HDMI splitters will remove that detection path, and allow screenshots atc, BUT anything else is deemed illegal:

@anand shinde To expand on what @sbzz posted, as regards recording on a USB connected disk:

Have you checked the "Time Machine" app on the TV? Most LG models from about 2014 onward have this.  You DO need to attach a decent capacity (e.g. 1TB to 2TB) sized HDD (portable hard disk, e.g. the Seagate backup disks, that are quite cheap these days, and are self-powered from the USB socket). They come with a SHORT usb3.0 cable, that needs to go into the socket that supports USB3, but the normal socket will work. I usually use a cable tie, or Velcro cable tidy, to support it at the rear of the TV, or in the bracket.

You can use the DEVICE links on the TV to set up so it "sees" the new disk OK, then go to the Time Machine app, check the TV Guide link, select from there, it can create a recording schedule. Once the entry is there, you can edit that schedule (start and stop times, once or weekly etc).

DOWNSIDE: the recording function (Time Machine) lacks the intelligence of a Sky or Foxtel box on older smart TV's, but MIGHT be better on recent ones. This may mean that if you program starts EARLY, the title will reflect THAT program on-air at the time, and NOT the programme name of what actually WILL be recording.  Deleting them after can be a bit "clunky" and unintuitive with ticking boxes and using the waste-bin icon, but you get used to it over time.

@anand shinde FYI: Time Machine functions in newer TV models is now called Time machine II, and is driven mainly from the Magic Remote Q.MENU, so it might not be visible as an actual separate app. If you tell us your LG model number, we might be able to provide more relevant help for recording functionality, tips and info. In the meantime, have a read of this LG article:

@anand shinde Thanks for the model number. I see from the spec that it is "Time Machine Ready" so the functionality IS there, but it will need a small self-powered HDD (external backup type of hard disk) plugged into the USB3 socket to activate the recording functionality that the TV has. NOTE: the new disk when added, may trigger a recording "setup" automatically anyway, so be aware that it may well want to format it to the TV requirements (file structures, folder names etc), that may take a few minutes. Use Velcro or a cable tie to hold the external disk in a convenient place, so that it does not strain the connection cable (NEVER let it hang from the cable).

ALSO: be aware that even when in standby, the TV will still have enough "smart electronic logic" active to do the scheduled recordings on its own, it does NOT need to be in the ON state, BUT DO NOT TURN IT OFF AT THE WALL SOCKET OBVIOUSLY! ☺️

Did you read the link for the smart remote info in the link I posted above? It may be a different one, and I am having a hard time finding the "Q.MENU" button, that in one of them is a button marked "123". If you had a separate manual for your remote, have a good read to see if it helps with the recording side. It MIGHT be the "settings" cog button on yours, I am not sure.

I know that the smart remotes have a good voice command function, so press the button to activate the microphone and try saying "time machine". I find the voice command useful to get to "settings" with my older magic remote, as I can never remember how to get to it on my TV otherwise... 😊

Bye the way, I find that Toshiba or Seagate portable USB3 dives are good for this, use this Google search term to see what is available in your area:

"site:.uk toshiba portable drive" or "site:.uk seagate portable drive" without the quotes. The site thing limits sites to your area.

After updating my TV (OLED65GXPUA) on August 31, 2020 the HDMI-ARC volume support changed: pressing the volume up/down button once on the magic remote will continuously apply volume changes until the volume has reached the maximum or minimum value.  Prior to this update volume changes over the HDMI-ARC interface behaved as expected: one press of the remote button would apply one increment or decrement to the volume.  A Klipsch Bar 48 is attached to the TV over the HDMI-ARC interface.
After the update the TV is running:  webOS TV version 5.1.1-3701, Software version 03.10.41.  I do not have the version information prior to the update.

I'd like a fast accessible shortcut to turn off the screen, eg. when pressing settings, a button on the screen.
Or even better, the possibility to configure the speaker off button on the remote to turn off the screen instead.
It should work independently of the energy saving feature, so that energy saving is not set to off when the screen is turned on again.

The existing procedure to turn off screen is to complex
press settings, press all settings, press energy saving, press off.....
and when the screen is turned on again, the energy saving is set to off, and not to the previous value (eg. auto).

Hey there,  I have had a  OLED55B6P for ten months and I love it but

I have a problem all a sudden, just today it starts to show a black screen with fire works every minutes if I don't press a button on the remote.

I have no eco mode on, no power save modes on, TV firmwire is up to date, and tried turning off on and on the tv.

      anyone know how to fix?

I don’t use screen share.  Suddenly SCREEN SHARE is showing up highlighted when I am trying to select the HDMI that I need to be using.  However, since SCREEN SHARE is already highlighted and will not go away, it keeps everything else with exception from antenna tv from working.  I have gone into the SCREEN SHARE APP  and was able to deactivate the sound.  Could not figure out away to cancel completely.  Please help!

I use Enigma2 for watching TV, recording etc.
      Is WebOS an alternative?
      Enigma2 can:
      Unlimited number of simultaneous recordings.
      Streaming (Intranet and Internet)
Softcam (for pay-TV card) <= Alternative: support for "Unicam" etc.
      NAS instead of USB HDD.
      Unencrypted recordings.

Make 2017 TV sets that have latest USB ports, at least 3.0 so it is possible to find a compatible USB HDD  WebOS will work properly with.
Install sufficient memory to run WebOS Apps without constant restarts or inform customers  apps may not work properly.
Put a clearly accessible filer by Genre choice from the main program guide (something Toshiba TV and others have had for many years on their EPG's). Going out of the main EPG into the limited snapshot guide then finding the sort by Genre option is clunky.  A zoom function on the main EPG to show more than just a couple of hours ahead would be ideal as well. Even my £70 supermarket own brand TV can manage these simple functions so come on LG match up.

I am trying to record terrestrial digital programs from my 2016 LG webosTV to a USB stick- if I set up a few programs to record, a few work,  but after a day or two it will fail. and from that point all will fail.

The TV does still try to record, as I can see it pop up a notification if I am watching, but nothing is recorded. (No error message is shown then.)

If I look at the "scheduled recordings" page, it shows an error, and "Unable to load" for the start and end time of the failed show.

If I go to "recording history" for that show, I see a message saying "incomplete, Cable/broadcast service changed programming" but that can't be the case for so many different shows,

There is plenty of space on the USB stick.
I have tried LG support, but they can't tell me what the message means, and suggest returning the TV for repair.

As a side note: I don't usually watch terrestrial TV through the television- we still use Sky (which is why I want to get this working!) I only say that in case it was a reason that show schedule information is not being updated.

Any help or suggestions gratefully received.

      I have a LG 55UH615T SmartTV.

      1. I setup a few scheduled recordings from the digital TV (via Guide),
      2. I have connected a USB HDD to the TV and
      3. I then set the TV to standby (i.e. I switch off the TV but the power to the TV is still on).
      4. Also, I disabled the HDD Eco mode to ensure the HDD don't go to sleep.

However, the TV doesn't record when the TV is on standby mode. Can anybody tell me how I can record when the TV is on standby mode? Can anybody tell me how I can record when the TV is on standby mode?
