Google Movies App update expected?

Question

Posted

Trying to find out if the Google Movies App will be updated to support 4K anytime soon?   There was an article stating this will happen on WEBOS soon, but no news since.

Update:  Well, it appears that the 4K on Google Movies App is now working.  I show 4K plus HDR, but didn't see an actual update from the APP.   Oh well, this is good news!

Hi Chris,

The reason you did not see an update is because there are two different ways to build an app for the webOS platform (

link hidden, please login to view

Packaged web apps: Packaged web apps reside on the TV. Packaged web apps have most of the resources they need to work successfully, available on the TV.

Hosted (Server Hosted) web apps: Hosted web apps reside on a remote web server. Users access them through an Internet browser. You can build hosted web apps for webOS TV using standard web technologies like HTML, CSS, and Javascript. These apps need connectivity to the web server to run successfully. As these apps reside on a remote web server, you can update them at any time without having to worry about pushing updates to the TV.

----

The important bit is the last sentence, this is why the look, feel and functionality of webOS apps often changes without any apparent upgrading.

Hi George thanks for the in depth response!  Appreciate it.  So i'm not crazy in thinking that the WebOS Google Play Movies app DOES now support  4K HDR?

I would have thought google would have made an announcement that this happened, big news!

Since my lg-oled65c9pla auto-updated to WebOS 5.5, there is a new bug.
The TV is connected to my Cambridge Audio Evo 75 amplifier over ARC - on powering the TV, it has always started up the amp, and switched it to use audio, instead of the appalling TV speakers. The whole setup has worked flawlessly for 5 years, but since WebOS 5.5, the amplifier starts, but is left in a muted state, and using the un-mute or volume controls on the TV remote makes no difference to turning on audio. The only way to get audio to play though my amp a speakers is to turn the amp's volume dial or press a volume button on the a amp's remote - this then unmutes the TV and audio is back.
There is no setting I can find in the TV that relates to whether the ARC channel starts muted or not...
No software has changed in my amp.  This is an annoying new bug in the TV software, I assume down to some CEC changes.

In "CMP settings": there is a huge list of vendors, IAB and Google.
You can deselect consent for those.
However when you go back, in the Google consent are all still enabled.
Reject All doesn;t work. Deselecting individually and clicking "Confirm my choices" doesn't work. The Google ones are back on.
      That's really bad, GDPR.

I've just updated my LG 55UM75 TV to the latest software version - 05..20.15 - and now the picture looks off.
I've turned off TruMotion, Motion Eye Care, Smooth Gradation, Noise Reduction and Smooth Gradation, but somehow everything still looks artificial.
Is there another picture setting I'm missing, I've gone through every setting I can find.

      Hi there,

I have an LG smart TV OLED65G36LA (LG OS v03.20.17, webOS TV version 8.20.0-710) , and the Prime Video App was no longer able to update (from Dec 2025) and therefore could no longer be used.
I have tried uninstalling the app and re-installing, and that was unable to work, so then applied a full reset on the LG TV and so had to reinstall all of my other apps (Apple TV, Netflix, etc etc) which all successfully downloaded so confirmed network connections and setup are all confirmed working.
When I try to download the Prime Video app, it remains stuck on the download screen and is unable to update.
      Thanks
