Thanks to @Peter Alexander and @SSM we have confirmation of webOS 4.0 compatibility within the release notes and information listed for their respective apps in the below topic.

We've confirmed the iOS version changes:

We've also confirmed Android:

Both version updated were added this week. We are waiting for an official webOS 4.0 press release from LG and additional information on what models are supported.

Will LG soon update or upgrade the TV software for WebOS 4.0 and version number 04.70.36?  Thanks for all of your time and consideration.  My TV is working great and I appreciate your answer.  Model is OLED65B7A.

Hi Daniel,

In unlikely your TV is going to get an upgrade to webOS 4, I have a unit of a similar age and I am not holding out any hope of an upgrade.  There is a firmware upgrade from July of this year available:

Whether or not you already have this I am unsure as the webOS version number differs from the software version number.

It is now 2020, and the WebOS browser in LG Smart TVs (which I believe is Chromium-based) is still massively out of date and doesn't work properly with a ton of websites!
The main problem is actually very simple. The browser doesn't support EMCAScript 2015 or ES6.
Basically, translated from nerd speak, it doesn't work properly with modern code using new features created since 2015, so any newer websites will break unless they've been written to be compatible with ancient browsers and OSes.
This should not be the case on a TV made in the current year. It should be running an up-to-date web browser, if not for convenience, then for SECURITY reasons as well!

      Hi all!

I have a LG 42LB630V, with the latest firmware installed.

I want to know if it is possible to change the audio language, for a mkv file that has more than an audio language and how to add external subtitles. Those embeded in mkv files are running ok.

      Thank you,
      Cipria

      Hi,

I bought this TV in Israel but it doesn't have the option to set Google Assistant in it, It's running WebOS 4.0 but for some reason LG decided to remove it from the models they sell here.
Can I manually install the apps on my tv?
Can I install the US firmware instead?

We don't have any official LG press release information but just yesterday, two articles surfaced online about Samsung and LG battling it out with their TV operating systems. Samsung with Tizen 4.0 and LG with webOS 4.0. Not sure if this just stems from overzealous writers, but
link hidden, please login to view on January 9th - 12th, and that is where LG usually announces something. If you recall, this is where we learned about upcoming webOS releases. So is webOS 4.0 coming out? if you read these articles, you would thinks so..
