[pivotCE]LuneOS February Stable Release: Chai Latte

Recommended Posts

So that’s been a long while already! 2 months passed since the last release and we’re finally back with a new release called “Chai Latte”. We have been working very hard behind the scenes in the past 2 months upgrading our various builds & build infrastructure!

So you’re asking what we have done? We have been doing lots of work to make our build & porting process more stable and straightforward. It’s now easier to create a new port for devices having a CM 12.1 (Android 5.1) based build available. Also initial work has been done in order to be able to use CM 13.0 (Android 6.0) based builds.

We have updated our Galaxy Nexus (Maguro) and Nexus 4 (Mako) build to a CM 12.1 based build. For the Maguro this solved the garbled audio issue that was present on our previous CM 10.1 based builds.

We also have a new target device running on CM 12.1 based build, the Nexus 5 (codename Hammerhead)!

We are fully aware that Cyanogen Inc stopped development of Cyanogen OS and also supporting the development of CyanogenMod by the community and all builds have been taken offline. At the time of writing the successor of CyanogenMod, LineageOS, is still in early stages of their setup and has just it’s initial builds, however this is not available for all target devices (yet). We’ll be re-assessing our source for builds at some point in the near future. The change to support LineageOS and/or AOSP directly should be fairly straight forward.

Our RaspberryPi2 and RaspberryPi3 builds are currently building again and are included in the release this time. The UI is still not working for the RaspberryPi devices, but at least you should be able to get it to boot and connect via console.

Many other small items have been fixed as well, see below for more details of all the changes!

Known issues:

  • Node-SQLite3 is currently not working. Components using Node-SQLite3 have switched to an alternative storage method for now.
  • Focus bug on input fields. You can work around this by hiding the virtual keyboard and pressing the input again.

Feel free to to get started. Tenderloin, Mako, Hammerhead and Maguro remain our focus for now, but the emulator & Grouper work too.

Please note that in order to use the latest stable builds on the Galaxy Nexus (Maguro), Nexus 4 (Mako) and Nexus 5 (Hammerhead) you need to flash the CM 12.1 images first using CWM/TWRP. In order to do so, you might be required to do a “factory reset” or at least “wipe cache”. CWM/TWRP will indicate when this is needed. After successfully flashing CM 12.1, make sure to boot it at least once before going back to CWM/TWRP to flash the latest LuneOS image! We have provided links to CM 12.1 for these 3 images on our device pages below.

Installation instructions for , , , , and are on the . And remember we .

Don’t forget to contact us with any questions and feel free to . Catch us on Twitter on IRC: Freenode:#webos-ports or email [email protected]

We will see you in March with a new release!

We have the following items on our to-do list to focus on:

  • Get the camera working
  • Work on Yocto Morty/Pyro upgrade
  • Investigate feasibility of QT 5.7/5.8 Upgrade
  • UI tweaks
  • Messaging improvements

I am developing an app wich is a video player for an iptv provider.
The app is based on html5, css and javascript.
At this point everything done till now is working and tested in 5 different browsers and in a Samsung smart tv.
The problem is that when I installed this app in a LG tv it messed up all the interface.
After searching for the problem I discovered that the use og css grid was the problem.
LG WebOs doesn't have support for the grid system? The css grid exists at least from 2017.
Any clues on how to solve this problem or I have to rewrite one version of the app only for the LG?

      Thanks for any help.

Samsung has made fridges with touchscreens before. LG has made fridges with doors that turn transparent to show you the inside. This year at CES 2018, those two ideas are finally merging into one with LG’s new InstaView ThinQ smart refrigerator, which features a 29-inch touchscreen that becomes transparent if users knock on it twice.
LG actually tried this two years ago, with a version called the Smart InstaView Door-in-Door that ran a full version of Windows 10, but it’s not clear that the company ever shipped the Windows version.
This version uses the touchscreen to manage your food using LG’s webOS software and Amazon’s Alexa, which will let you tag food with virtual stickers and expiration dates and get automatic reminders when things are running low or about to go bad. There’s also a wide-angle panoramic camera on the inside of the fridge that will let you remotely view your fridge while you’re out and about to check and see if you’re actually out of milk or not.

Unfortunately, the only image that LG has shared showing the fridge is a low-resolution shot on its YouTube page banner, but it seems that you’ll be able to still use the screen while it’s translucent, allowing you to tag food directly in a vaguely augmented reality-esque move.
LG is also touting how all of its ThinQ kitchen gadgets can talk to each other to make kitchen tasks easier. So your ThinQ fridge can talk to your EasyClean oven, which will help you cook food through step-by-step instructions from the recipe app from your fridge. Then, your EasyClean oven can notify your QuadWash dishwasher about the kind of meal you cooked, so it can more efficiently select a wash cycle for that dish. Of course, all this requires spending thousands of dollars replacing every appliance in your kitchen (and if this all works as well as LG claims it does), but it’s still an intriguing vision of a Jetsons-like future utopia.
No price or release date for the InstaView ThinQ refrigerator or any of LG’s other new appliances have yet been announced.

Model: 42UB700T-TH version 03.02.25. Has not got any software update since  3-4 Years - What a mess...…
This TV is just a random box now... Once purchased this model - new version from LG was introduced; making this just a playing box...
None of the recent OTT's can be installed..
We need a fix or else some solution to it.
Its really a disheartening experience after being loyal to this brand in any appliance we purchase.

      Hello -
after no updates for approx. 2 years, the TV updated to 06.00.03 about 4 months ago, now to
this latest, which is described as a bug fix release.

This release has changed the  TV picture, it is too bright, almost garish, with a decidedly blue color cast -
Let's be honest, a stable and properly balanced image was never one of the TV's strong points, now it's almost unwatchable.
Why would anybody update the TV firmware picture settings of a 4 year old TV in such a drastic way?
