Hi,

I too have the same issue with my LG 42LB750T+1 TB Western Digital passport.  The HD is detected on my laptop, it is in NTFS format but fails to show up on the TV.

I've tested with a 2GB USB Stick and 250GB WD Hard Disk(both FAT32), it is able to detect both of those.

Is it a problem with the WD Hard disk? I've read online that NTFS works properly for larger capacity drives for some people.

Any info will be helpful.

Thanks,

Komail

Hi Thuan1979/Komali,

I got my 1 TB WD passport HDD detected and able to play 1080p movies on my LG 42LB6500 TV.

I did the following steps.

1) Take a back-up of your data in HDD.

2) connect to Laptop / PC. In My computer find you HDD, Right Click; select format.

3) In format Pop-up menu, change file system to NTFS, change Allocation Unit Size to 16 kilobytes.

4) Click Start.

5) Copy movies  to HDD after Formating. Connect to your TV's USB/HDD port (earlier LG models had USB ports marked also as HDD, try connecting to these ports if HDD is mentioned).

6) WebOs Models will detect the HDD as soon as you connect it to USB/HDD  port (try USB port 1).

Try these and let me know if it helps. WebOs will create a new folder in you HDD.

Interesting, but how can you copy additional media to the harddrive without connecting it? That is a main benefit of using a NAS or HTPC with file share.

Any way to do this in the world of LG?

Hi Komali,

I understand that you have lots of DATA in you 1TB HDD. Try to find a way to take a back up somewhere.

Or else buy a new HDD dedicatedly for TV. From my experience Segate HDD's were getting detected without all this formatting.

As of now i dont have any other solution with me for this issue?

Hi all

I think the problem is that there are so many small-sized file in the disk. Try to move those file to other hard disk and keep only video files in your hard disk. I should work for whatever format.

Please check and let me know the result.

Hi Prabul/Pranav.

Thanks for your replies.

Pranav, how do we remove the password protection? I haven't given any such password protection when I use it with my laptop.

Thanks,

Hi Komail.

A program called WD Security is used to create/remove password from WD HDDs. I don't have any idea about seagate.
When you connect your WD HDD what happens? Means it runs WD Unlocker first or any other program or it opens explorer directly.

Hi Komail,
Your TV should detect your HDD as it supports upto 2TB(NTFS).
You should check it with another HDD. If your friend have one then try it. Also if any of your friend or neighbor have Smart TV then try connect your HDD on that TV.
If still this problem persist then you must format your HDD.

Hello,

I am  a newbie. Recently I have purchased LG42LB6500. I have two 1TB WD my passport, whereas one is loaded with all movies, music, data and other is loaded with just some files less than 1GB. The strange problem I am facing is that one of my 1TB WD (which has only files) is getting detected when connected to TV whereas the other (which as all movies, music, data) doesn't. Can anyone help me on this.

Here is additional info: Later, after connecting, I just waited and then surprisingly the second 1TB WD (which as all movies, music, data) also got detected but has taken almost 20 mins of time. I could able to see the folder structure on the TV and even tried playing a movie. Noticed that the movie was running, I could see the seekbar is running but am not able to hear (or) see the movie. What could be the problem?

Hello Everyone ...

I have recently bought the LG 50LB6520, and since, it frustrates me everyday i use it ...

the Web Browser, i cannot play a music file or live streaming radio in one tab and open a new one, the player in the first tab stops

YouTube, if i put it in pause, and tried to resume, it starts from the very beginning of the video

And the worst disaster i had with it, was regarding my 2 External HDDs 1TB each, which I had for nearly 5 years now, and contains all my universe, Programs, Family albums (Scanned old images, weddings, camera photos, a total size more than 100 GB), Games, Movies, Cartoons, Songs and Music, downloads .. i've had them for 5 years .. Oh My Merciful God

first i connected the 1TB hdd of my brother, and played some movies to try the new TV set and its capabilities .. I tried to find the option to UnPlug them .. but couldn't find it, so I assumed that it supports the direct UnPlug normally like the pc and everything went normal nothing happen to his hdd, his hdd mostly had fewer number of folders and mostly was movies..

when i tried to connect mine for the first time

they didn't work in the first time .. (now from the post I knew that they may needed like 20 Minutes after they are plugged .. How Come .. to be ready)

Plug .. Un-Plug .. Plug .. Un-Plug exchanging on both of them .. but sure nothing of them has worked

the disaster was when i tried to attach it to my laptop ..

1- Toshiba: was detected on the computer, and the drive letter appeared, but no size bar, and trying to browse it, it gives an error in the disk, the disk may be corrupted

2- WD MyPassport: was detected and showed the disk size and the remaining disk space, but when browsed it, I found the folder structure i had appearing as Unknown file icons with 0 kb size, also i found 2 new folders i didn't had before, and in one of them i found 1 folder form the Family Album (Camera) and it had the sub folders of it .. where does this came from ..

later on .. after searching for the problem with the HDDs

i've been able to "chkdsk /f y:" for the Toshiba, and restored that drive

but this didn't affect the WD

and to be so stupid as normal people .. i tried to put the toshiba back to the tv ..

this time .. i've been connecting a thump stick and detaching it .. and in one of these times it showed me a warning .. not to unplug it with the tv on .. as this might cause some problems

so .. i kept the tv off, plugged the hdd, opened the tv .. didnt read it .. turned off .. unplugged the hdd .. plugged to the laptop and BOOOOM ANOTHER 2 FOLDERS APPEARS AS 0 KB FILES .. THE WEBOS MUST BE FAULTY ..

please if anyone can help .. it would be sooo much appreciated, i can even pay him if he demands .. i just want my data back

I am using my WD 1TB HDD without any problem. My TV model is LB6700. I am from India. WebOS version is different for different-different areas.

I don't know what is the problem but you might get your data back.

You mentioned that your HDD showing size correctly but files are missing; it is possible that your files are hidden (Also check show system files while viewing hidden files).

If that is not the case than you can use some good recovery tool i.e. MiniTool Power Data Recovery, Getdata Recover My Files. It is still possible that you might lost some files even after using recovery tool.

If that also don't work than try to contact Toshiba/WD customer care and ask them if they provide any facility for recovering data. They sure can get your data because they can go to very lower level of your drive.

There is no doubt in my mind that WebOs is faulty and so many people are facing problems regarding HDD either of detection problem or corruption problem.

The read time is depended on how much files you have in your hard drive for example if you have 10,000 pictures total of 1GB size and one HDD with only one 1GB file than HDD contains pictures will take longer than HDD contains only single file. I don't know why but TV it is not working like PCs in HDD detection (I am not expert on this but I am telling you this by my personal experience)

And yes you need some extra space to recover your files; a big problem in your case because if I am not wrong you might have more than 1.5TB of data from both HDD together

Ooh dear Pranav .. both are nearly full, plus im checking the option to compress the files to save the disk space, so they may have more than 2 TBs of data

thanks alot

please if someone is expert or have something that could be of help

I was also facing the same issue with my 1TB Seagate HDD. Surprisingly, the device got detected in more than 20 minutes. Looks like LG WebOS is sluggish in terms of reading and detecting a large sized HDD.

Can someone from WebOS team help fix this and make it faster?

Even I too had this problem of late/failed detection of my Seagate 1 TB HDD on my LG TV webOS 2.0.

HDD works fine when connected to my laptop(NTFS format) . I checked my HDD content and found that there were some files created with name "ntfschk....."  on root folder of HDD(i dont remember creating them). I deleted them and connected back to TV and it is working smoothly. :D

Hope this helps some of you.

Hello Everyone ..

let me describe my experience in this subject

1- how fast the HDD is read on the TV is relative to the a. Content Types, b. Folder Structure, c. amount of data

My HDD had mixed content, and very deep folder structure, I'm talking about the daily usage of Personal and Business staff, documents, programs, pictures, movies, music, games, downloads, ... etc., this is how I've been using it, and wanted to play the movies on the TV

currently now I turn on the TV, attach the HDD, and do whatever for about 10-20 mins, while its being read and appear in the SmartShare app.

2- I've attached other HDDs that has only Movies on it, and/or has some other few content types but not large amount, and it worked in a flash, just plug it in and pooof it is on the SmartShare

3- @Rajc123, these "ntfschk....." folders you deleted:

a- they are there - most probably - because you have plugged then unplugged your HDD before being read probably, unplugged the HDD with the TV Turned on, which is a very serious mistake that threatening you will loose your precious data on the HDD

b- Do Not Delete Them Again before you explore their content and make sure that they are Really Empty or has data you don't need anymore, in my case they always had pictures, documents, or files from various location on the HDD, like one time i found a folder of my brother's images, which originally was on the Family Photos Folder ...

c- How did they get to this folder?? honestly i don't know ... but I do know that the folder named "ntfschk...." is being created when the HDD is being checked and contains like the fragmented files on the disk ...

4- the correct way to use the HDD on the TV is:

     a. Attach the HDD, doesn't matter the TV is on or off

     b. Wait .. Wait ... Be Patient, Wait until you are sure it is working and appear in the smart share or whatever application you are intended to use.

     c. to unplug the HDD, Turn off the TV, and wait until the light indicator is off, or you are sure that it is stopped.

     d. even if it wasn't yet appeared on the TV, Turn off the TV before unplugging the HDD

Television has long been a canvas for visual storytelling, but today it has evolved into something far more immersive. At LG, we’re redefining what a TV can be – transforming the screen into a seamless platform for art, creativity and personal expression.
This transformation is first and foremost enabled by LG TV’s unrivaled picture quality. With LG OLED’s self-lit pixels delivering perfect blacks and infinite contrast, our displays provide the ultimate digital canvas, capable of reproducing the most delicate textures and vibrant colors exactly as the artist intended.
Building on this visual excellence are LG’s True Wireless technology and LG Gallery+, our new visual curation service available on every 2025 LG TV in more than 150 countries. Together, they turn the TV into a wall-mounted masterpiece, blending effortlessly into any space while giving users direct access to world-class art.
Perhaps the most compelling expression of this idea is the LG SIGNATURE OLED T, a 77-inch transparent display that pairs ultra-sharp 4K OLED picture quality with complete wireless freedom through LG’s proprietary True Wireless technology. The product recently earned a Best of Innovation Award from the Consumer Technology Association ahead of CES 2026, and it reflects a growing shift: TVs are becoming part of interior design as well as a medium for creative expression.
A World of Art Where You Are
Built on the award-winning webOS platform, LG Gallery+ offers more than 4,500 curated image and video content ranging from timeless classics to modern artwork, gaming landscapes and personal photo uploads. With adaptive smart features and personalization options, it lets users instantly reshape the atmosphere of a room – whether setting a mood for a celebration or enjoying a quiet Sunday morning.
LG’s collaboration with the National Gallery in London brings iconic works from internationally recognized artists into the home through LG Gallery+. The service continues to grow, offering a unique way for people to explore, curate and enjoy art in everyday life – such as starting the day bathed in the vivid colors of Van Gogh’s A Wheatfield.

True Wireless Clears the Way for TV’s Future
When paired with True Wireless technology, LG Gallery+ becomes even more powerful. By relocating connections to the discreet Zero Connect Box, the wireless technology removes visible cables and frees the TV from traditional placement restrictions. The result is pristine wall-mounted installation that is reminiscent of a home gallery, available in both the ultra-premium LG OLED evo M5 and the more accessible LG QNED9M from the QNED evo lineup.
A wireless TV alone may still appear as a giant black screen when inactive – but with LG Gallery+, it becomes a living canvas that enhances the space even when not in use.
What to Look for in a Digital Canvas
Art deserves technologies that preserve every detail. LG’s 2025 OLED evo models deliver perfect blacks, brilliant colors and exceptional brightness – ideal for displaying rich textures and subtle tonal transitions. AI-powered picture optimization analyzes more than 1.6 billion image settings, tailoring display modes for each viewer and environment.
For creators, features like Dynamic Tone Mapping Professional offer precise control over HDR10 content, enabling professional-level calibration across lighting conditions and supporting more immersive digital art experiences.
QNED evo Makes Colors Pop for More People
For those seeking a wider range of options, LG QNED evo TVs bring many OLED-inspired innovations to a broader audience. Featuring Mini LED technology powered by the Alpha AI processor, QNED evo offers enhanced contrast and accuracy in images to ensure deeper blacks, brighter highlights and well-balanced picture quality. With Dynamic QNED Color solution that offer outstanding depth, clarity and precision, QNED evo delivers striking realism in both bright and dark spaces. Available from 50 to 100 inches, the lineup balances versatility and performance – ideal for gaming, movies, sports and digital art alike.
Choose the Canvas That Fits Your Life
Whether it’s LG SIGNATURE OLED, OLED evo or QNED evo, each model offers a path to experiencing art and content in new ways. True Wireless opens spaces. LG Gallery+ fills them with meaning. Together, they invite users into a more creative, personal and beautifully connected world.

In London’s Thriving Art Season, Se Ok’s Ink Abstraction Comes Alive on
LG OLED TVs, While LG Engages Artists via Partnership With National Gallery

SEOUL, Oct. 16, 2025 — Amid the energy of Frieze London 2025, LG Electronics (LG) celebrates the abstract artistry of Se Ok Suh (1929–2020), a pioneer of modern Korean ink abstraction. At Frieze London 2025, this visionary artist’s abstract ink paintings are reinterpreted by his sons, Do Ho Suh and Eul Ho Suh, as an inspiring digital art experience on LG OLED TVs.
To translate Se Ok Suh’s artistic vision from ink painting to digital art experience, renowned contemporary artist Do Ho Suh, and visionary architect Eul Ho Suh, closely collaborated to create an immersive spatial arrangement. LG OLED TVs provide the ideal digital canvas to present their vision. Through this partnership, Do Ho gives new life to the beauty and radical inventiveness of Se Ok Suh’s “People” series, animating marks that explore the philosophical relationship between humanity and infinite space.
Presented across multiple LG SIGNATURE OLED T transparent TV and OLED evo TVs, the black ink abstract works are rendered through overlapping video animations, drawing viewers into a compelling narrative that captures the meditative flow of Se Ok Suh’s ink paintings. The innovative capabilities of LG’s transparent OLED screens create a visually striking and immersive experience that will captivate viewers, highlighting the layered interplay and refined lines of Se Ok Suh’s brushwork. The perfect black facilitated by LG’s self-lit OLED technology brings out the depth and subtlety of every stroke in astonishing detail.
Extending the creative energy sparked by Frieze London across the city’s vibrant art scene, the story behind the project, showcased at Frieze London, will be elaborated for the wider art community at the National Gallery in London. A special event will enable wider reflection on this intergenerational collaboration and the inspiration Do Ho Suh drew from his father’s work in this reinterpretation.
LG recently began the journey of its partnership with the National Gallery, one of the world’s favorite art destinations, reflecting its commitment to nurturing contemporary artists and their work. As the National Gallery’s Modern and Contemporary Art Partner, LG supports current and upcoming artist projects and relationships with other cultural institutions at the intersection of art and technology.
“My father often spoke of the infinite universe and space in his work, while he was painting,” said Do Ho Suh. “When I witnessed the moment the LG OLED screen became transparent, it felt as if a two-dimensional picture was transformed into three-dimensional space, revealing the space behind the painting that has been invisible until now.”
“This exhibition is a meaningful opportunity to share the legacy of Se Ok Suh’s work, digitally reimagined by Do Ho Suh and Eul Ho Suh for Frieze London,” said Kate Oh, head of Experiential Marketing at the LG Media Entertainment Solution Company. “During London Art week, we are excited to take part in projects and events with the cultural partners including National Gallery in London and Korean Cultural Centre UK (KCCUK) to support artists and inspire art lovers and the wider art community across London.”
During Frieze London 2025, LG and the KCCUK are also hosting K-Art Lab, an interactive exhibition exploring the dialogue between Korean heritage and contemporary creativity. At the event, Se Ok Suh’s reimagined works are showcased on LG’s 83-inch OLED TV, providing visitors a deeply engaging visual experience.
Visitors to Frieze London 2025 can explore LG’s latest OLED TVs and Se Ok Suh’s artwork, reinterpreted by his sons, in The Regent’s Park from October 15 to 19.

NEWoMan TAKANAWA is the centerpiece of the TAKANAWA Gateway Station area’s urban regeneration initiative, conducted by LUMINE, a subsidiary of the East Japan Railway Company. Transparent OLED Signage: Blending Digital and Physical Worlds
In the event hall on the third floor of the North Building, LG has installed a massive 380-inch Transparent OLED display to offer visitors an innovative spatial experience that creates a unique fusion of real and virtual environments. LG MAGNIT: Ultra-Premium Micro LED Displays
LG MAGNIT displays have been installed at the second-floor entrances of the North and South buildings. Using Micro LEDs smaller than the width of a human hair (under 100 micrometers), LG MAGNIT delivers self-emissive light and color with clear picture quality, high color reproduction accuracy and precise image processing.
In the North Building, a vertical 2.4-meter-wide by 7.45-meter-high LG MAGNIT captivates visitors with its vivid imagery, while in the South Building, a horizontal 9-meter-wide by 2.02-meter-high display follows the customer pathway, enhancing spatial immersion.
Strengthening Presence in Japan’s Competitive Market
In Japan – often considered a challenging market for foreign brands – LG is making significant inroads with its premium signage and its OLED TVS, which boast superior picture quality defined by perfect color and perfect black. The company is solidifying its leadership in the premium segment, maintaining the top position in the ultra-large OLED TV market (70 inches and above) since last year.
Proven Performance in Iconic Venues Worldwide
LG’s premium signage serves as a display solution that enhances the value of the space at major global landmarks. At Gardens by the Bay in Singapore, 55-inch Transparent OLED Signage units provide visitors with detailed plant information while blending seamlessly into the lush natural surroundings.

This forward-looking project explores the creative possibilities at the intersection of art and technology – beginning with a large-scale digital installation by Korean media artist TZUSOO, on view at MMCA Seoul’s iconic Seoul Box from August 1, 2025, through February 1, 2026.
The MMCA×LG OLED Series transforms Seoul Box – a soaring, publicly accessible space at the heart of MMCA – into a dedicated platform for contemporary media art. Each year, the series will present a new work by a leading contemporary artist, with LG as the title sponsor providing technical support to help bring ambitious artistic visions to life.
For the inaugural edition, TZUSOO presents “Agarmon Encyclopedia: Leaked Edition,” a multimedia installation comprising the sculpture “Agarmon” alongside the two-channel video work “The Eight Spirits of Flesh.” Known for her distinct voice rooted in digital-native culture and her explorations of gender and identity, TZUSOO engages themes of life, desire and generative cycles through a hybrid of organic forms and digital avatars.
The installation is powered by 88 55-inch LG OLED screens, arranged into two towering media walls specifically designed to fill the Seoul Box space. With perfect blacks and vivid colors, LG OLED displays enhance the visual intensity of “The Eight Spirits of Flesh,” immersing viewers in a world where digital creatures shift and interact across screens. The scale and technical sophistication of the installation mark a significant moment for media art at MMCA – and underscore LG OLED’s digital canvas as a powerful and creative medium.
“It’s an honor to support the first of many exhibitions of the MMCA×LG OLED Series by helping bring the artist’s bold visual experiment to life through the immersive power of our LG OLED technology,” said Kate Oh, head of Experiential Marketing at the LG Media Entertainment Solution Company. “We hope this series offers audiences a deeper, more sensory experience of contemporary art and expands the possibilities for how it can be expressed and appreciated by art enthusiasts on a digital canvas.”
“As the first artist selected for the MMCA×LG OLED Series, TZUSOO’s multifaceted spirit of experimentation vividly reflects the creativity and innovation this project aims to foster,” said Kim Sunghee, Director of MMCA. “We look forward to this exhibition introducing new possibilities for contemporary art at the intersection of technology and artistic vision.”

LG’s Advanced Display Technologies Are Redefining the Live Sports Experience

SEOUL, June 23, 2025 — LG Electronics (LG) is further solidifying its leadership in the global digital signage market by delivering differentiated products and integrated management solutions tailored for the sports and entertainment sectors.
LG is set to supply a total of 1,700 square meters of indoor and outdoor signage to Roig Arena in Valencia, Spain – scheduled to open this September. Set to become Spain’s largest indoor stadium with a capacity of 20,000, the sports venue will serve as the new home of Valencia Basket Club, an elite professional basketball team.
A signature feature of the venue will be The Eye – a 300-square-meter, eye-shaped LED screen mounted on the façade near the main entrance, designed to captivate visitors with its striking visual presence.
Inside the arena, LG’s installations will include a central scoreboard, a massive LED screen spanning 76 meters in width, a secondary screen behind the stage and a ribbon board encircling the venue – collectively delivering a dynamic and immersive spectator experience.
With signage installations in around 200 countries, LG continues to strengthen its position in the commercial display sector, supplying signage to a wide range of sports venues, from large-scale stadiums to local training facilities.
The company is especially gaining traction in Europe and North America – regions home to many of the world’s most popular sports. LG’s high-resolution signage provides vivid, lifelike visuals, while the LG Business Cloud platform enables streamlined remote management, tailored content distribution and effective advertising solutions – delivering added convenience for B2B clients and unlocking new revenue opportunities.
In Spain, LG signage has become the preferred choice among professional football clubs. A notable example is Atlético Madrid’s home stadium, the Riyadh Air Metropolitano, which features a high-performance LED screen covering over 2,000 square meters and an LED ribbon board extending more than 400 meters. At Real Sociedad’s Reale Arena, LG not only installed an LED scoreboard and ribbon board but also supplied over 800 signage units of various sizes for the stadium’s player facilities.
In 2021, LG equipped Wembley Stadium – the largest stadium in the UK with a capacity of 90,000 – with an 840-square-meter LED screen measuring 57 meters wide and 7.5 meters high. LG signage is also featured at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium, Bristol City’s Ashton Gate Stadium, Eintracht Frankfurt’s Deutsche Bank Park in Germany and Club Brugge’s Jan Breydel Stadium in Belgium.
In the U.S., LG recently supplied approximately 842 square meters of signage to Fenway Park – home of the Boston Red Sox – including a main scoreboard and a large ribbon board. Earlier this year, LG also installed a ribbon board at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.
According to global market research firm Omdia, the global LED signage market – including sports-related facilities – is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 13.4 percent, surpassing KRW 14 trillion by 2029.
“The global signage market is increasingly recognizing LG’s ability to deliver total solutions that enhance the B2B customer experience,” said Paik Ki-mun, head of Information Display Business at the LG Media Entertainment Solution Company. “We remain committed to delivering differentiated display solutions that elevate live experiences across a broad spectrum of industries, with sports being a key focus.”
