  3. Last year was a particularly harsh one for many families in Thailand, as severe floods devastated large areas of the northeast and central regions repeatedly over a prolonged four-month period. Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, a central Thailand province steeped in ancient history, was one territory that was hit particularly hard by this unprecedented catastrophe. To restore and preserve the city’s infrastructure, historical locations and private homes damaged by this unforgiving natural disaster, LG Thailand initiated a range of activities that took full advantage of the company’s expertise and kind-hearted employees as it extended a helping hand to those in need. LG recruited a team of over 30 volunteers who worked diligently throughout the day to clear up as many of the smudges created by the flooding as possible and repaint buildings from schools to temples, returning their old, dilapidated walls to their former glory. Fully understanding that flood-damaged electrical appliances, which are considered daily essentials, must be repaired as a matter of urgency within the affected communities, LG created a registration system where households could sign up to receive inspections and maintenance services as fast as possible. Thanks to this effort, people could bring their devices to a service center or request LG technicians pay a visit to their houses for repairs. (From left to right) Mr. Prapan Treebubpha, deputy governor of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya and Mr. Sunghun Jung, managing director of LG Electronics Thailand The company’s endeavor to care for locals continues to change lives with a donation of LG appliances and cash totaling over USD 10,600. “Through this and other activities, LG has joined hands with the local government to help accelerate the restoration of the province and improve the well-being of our inhabitants,” said Prapan Treebubpha, deputy governor of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya. (From left to right) Ms. Arpusara Songkavijit, senior marketing communication manager at LG Electronics Thailand, Dr. Petch Alisanant, assistant director of supporting services at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital and Mr. Amnaj Singhachan, senior marketing manager at LG Electronics Thailand The flood relief project is yet another embodiment of LG’s long-held commitment to improving the overall quality of life and well-being of people across the world, as it strives to promote its Life’s Good vision. In July 2022, LG also donated electrical appliances worth over USD 11,500 to the Chulalongkorn Hospital, Thai Red Cross Society and Princess Mother’s Medical Volunteer (PMMV) Foundation to support the heroes working in Thailand’s medical sector, believing that this donation would benefit the healthcare and livelihoods of all Thai people in time. 4. Highest Full-Year Revenue in LG Electronics’ History With Continuous Growth Based on Strong Fundamentals SEOUL, Jan. 27, 2023 — LG Electronics Inc. (LG) today announced full-year 2022 consolidated revenue of KRW 83.5 trillion with operating profit of KRW 3.6 trillion. In 2022, LG achieved its highest annual revenue ever – surpassing KRW 80 trillion for the first time in its history – increasing 12.9 percent over 2021, when sales exceeded KRW 70 trillion for the first time. The record sales reflect continuous growth based on strong fundamentals, although full-year profitability was impacted by challenging global economic conditions. The company’s revenue growth in 2022 was driven by strong demand for premium home appliances and automotive parts. For the seventh consecutive year, the appliance business unit saw significant year-over-year growth. The turnaround of LG’s Vehicle components Solutions business in 2022 reflected steady improvements in the automotive industry, and this business exceeded 10 percent of LG’s total revenue for the first time. The LG Home Appliance & Air Solution Company saw another record-setting year with 2022 revenue of KRW 29.9 trillion, an increase of 10.3 percent from the previous year, as a result of company’s premium-focused strategy that includes unique appliances such as LG Styler clothing care systems, all-in-one WashTower laundry centers, and LG InstaView refrigerators with Craft Ice. Full-year 2022 operating profit was KRW 1.1 trillion lower than in the previous year caused by increased marketing investments and higher logistics costs. The business unit plans to consistently pursue its premium-centered strategy by improving competitiveness of premium products as well as strengthening its mass-tier lineup, along with cost structure management to enhance profitability. In addition, the company will accelerate the expansion of smart home ecosystems by expanding upgradable appliance lineups in the overseas markets. The LG Home Entertainment Company reported 2022 revenue of KRW 15.7 trillion and operating profit of KRW 5.4 billion. Although lower global TV demand impacted revenue and operating profit versus 2021, the company’s content and services business based on LG’s smart TV platform has grown ten-fold since 2018. As challenging business conditions persist, the company will focus on expanding LG’s smart TV platform to diversify its overall business portfolio and secure future growth engines. Furthermore, the company will maintain its competitive edge by growing the premium TV segment, such as OLED TV and QNED TV, as well as effectively managing marketing expenses. The LG Vehicle component Solutions Company increased revenue by 29.1 percent in 2022 from 2021 to KRW 8.6 trillion with a full-year operating profit of KRW 169.6 billion. The business unit’s profitable growth was driven by proactively responding to higher demand from automakers. By year-end 2022, the total value of accumulated orders for auto parts is around KRW 80 trillion, reflecting the company’s position as a leading supplier to the worldwide automotive industry. The company will continue its momentum by strengthening its global supply chain and will work to further increase profitability through efficient cost structure management. The LG Business Solutions Company’s 2022 revenue of KRW 6.1 trillion increased 11.2 percent over the previous year driven by continuous recovery of information displays. Full-year operating profit declined, primarily due to lower post-pandemic demand for PCs and monitors. Looking ahead, the company plans to improve competitiveness of PCs and monitors, while driving stable growth in the B2B segment by developing more customized solutions. 6. For LG, 2022 was a defining year for its unwavering journey towards sustainability after the company successfully redirected its focus to collaborations for a greater collective impact through its global innovation challenge, the LIFE’S GOOD AWARD. Innovators hailing from all four corners of the globe answered LG’s call with creativity, passion and a drive to make sure Life’s Good, with novel solutions that bring much-needed hope of a brighter future for people and the planet. Among the countless game-changing ideas submitted, the best four were selected to be presented at the LIFE’S GOOD AWARD Conference held in January, in what would be the grand finale. (From left to right) Lee Jeong-seok, head of LG Electronics’ Global Marketing Center, CTO Dr. Kim Byoung-hoon and CSO Lee Sam-soo With innovation at its core, it was only fitting that LG Sciencepark, the company’s immense innovation hub based in Magok (South Korea), was chosen to host the conference. The four finalists joined the judging panel of respected scholars and LG executives to give their final pitches that would determine which award they would be taking home. But this was by no means a closed event, as the public was warmly invited to tune into the conference’s afternoon events. Lee Jeong-seok, head of LG Electronics’ Global Marketing Center The day kicked off with a presentation from each team and the judging panel gave valuable feedback and asked questions based on the solution’s impact, innovation and sustainability. And finally, the moment everyone had waited for; the announcement of who would be receiving what prize at the awards ceremony held later that day. Public attendees interested in LG’s latest sustainability efforts were greeted to the park by a special exhibition booth providing an interesting overview of each top-four solution, as well as a look into LG’s most notable products promoting environmental sustainability and accessibility. The ‘Dot pad,’ Dot Incorporation’s tactile graphic display, was one of them. Featuring 2,400 braille pins/dots which move up and down to convert information, this device gave visitors the opportunity to experience how the visually impaired ‘see’ the world through their fingertips. Next up was Day1Lab’s alternative plastic solution which promotes its vision of a green Earth devoid of all harmful microplastic waste. This exhibit was set up to clearly demonstrate how carbohydrate complex materials degrade naturally in freshwater and earth, as to not harm the planet’s beautiful and diverse ecosystems. Similarly, SOLUTUM presented an alternative plastic solution which degrades naturally in freshwater without toxic residue. Attendees were eager to see the eco-friendly material close up, especially as it’s expected to be featured in consumer products soon in partnership with a leading beverage brand. Water desalination was the key initiative outlined in NONA Technologies’ exhibit. It’s here where onlookers could discover how a desalination solution that removes minerals from raw water completely changes the outlook of agriculture and water-deprived communities over the world. Professor Christopher Marquis, a professor at Cambridge Judge Business School Following this exclusive tour of the winning solutions, everyone gathered for the long-awaited awards ceremony. But before the awards were handed out, a welcoming address by LG, special lectures from presiding professors and speeches from the winning teams were conducted, a perfect example of how businesses, scholars and innovators can come together as one for a better world. 9. LG Electronics Tennessee Plant is Selected as Industry’s First U.S. Home Appliance Lighthouse Factory by World Economic Forum SEOUL, Jan. 16, 2023 — LG Electronics’ (LG) home appliance manufacturing plant in the United States has been selected as a world-leading Lighthouse Factory by the World Economic Forum (WEF). The million-square-foot factory in Clarksville, Tennessee – the U.S. production base for LG’s award-winning washers and dryers – is the industry’s first home appliance plant in the United States to join the WEF’s global network. Also, it is the company’s second Lighthouse Factory, following on the heels of the LG Smart Park in Changwon, South Korea, which was selected by the WEF last year. A “Lighthouse Factory” is recognized by the WEF for its role in shaping the future of manufacturing through the integration of Internet of Things (IoT), big data, artificial intelligence (AI), robots and other Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies. Since 2018, the WEF has selected and added global factories to its network twice a year. LG’s world-class autonomous factory in Tennessee utilizes advanced digital technologies from AI and big data to IoT and robots. Completed at the end of 2018, the facility now operates three production lines for front-load and top-load washing machines and dryers. With an annual production capacity of 1.2 million washers and 600,000 dryers, the plant proactively responds to changing North American demand through local production. More than 900 people work at the LG home appliance factory in Montgomery County, Tenn. Featuring a complete integrated production system streamlined process to supply impeccable products to customers on time, each line carries out the entire manufacturing process of new models from making the parts to assembly and packaging. In addition, strict quality conditions are applied to all the assembly lines to heighten quality across the board, from parts to finished products. The LG Tennessee factory boasts a fully autonomous logistics system with 166 automated guided vehicles (AGVs) that transport parts around the plant. With three times more AGVs than the LG Smart Park, these robots improve overall productivity by freeing up people for other tasks. With the integration of parts production such as metal press processing, plastic injection molding, and painting – including LG’s own intelligent injection molding system – the company has increased component productivity by 21 percent.1 In addition, the plant recognizes and responds in advance to potential productivity issues through an advanced detection system. By applying data-based AI technology that accurately predicts washing machine performance, the number of tests and energy consumed during testing are reduced by 22 percent, while the defect rate has been reduced by more than 61 percent via quality optimization.2 The plant is also maximizing workplace safety and operational efficiency by using robots for complicated, potentially dangerous tasks, such as assembling and lifting heavy parts and welding. To further improve efficiency, LG plans to establish a 5G connectivity network across the facility in the second half of this year, creating an environment where its many AGVs can transport materials faster and more accurately based on stable, uninterrupted communication. LG will also introduce Autonomous Mobile Robots that navigate the expansive facility with ease to enhance its logistics system. LG’s commitment to sustainability can be seen throughout the Tennessee factory, which transitioned to renewable energy completely already in 2022. The plant also uses a high-efficiency utility infrastructure, which supplies the power, steam and heat necessary to produce LG’s home appliance products with the help of the company’s advanced Building Energy Control (BECON) solution. “Along with the LG Smart Park, LG’s Tennessee factory represents our unmatched leadership in transforming manufacturing facilities into advanced, futuristic hubs utilizing the most revolutionary technologies,” said Lyu Jae-cheol, president of the LG Electronics Home Appliance & Air Solution Company. “Lighthouse Factory status exemplifies how LG continues to strive for providing differentiated customer experiences through customized manufacturing innovations.” # # # 1 Comparing the overall equipment effectiveness rate from the year 2020 to 2022 according to the lighthouse site visit report by World Economic Forum. 2 Comparing the number of the test conduction and the field defect rate from the year 2020 to 2022 according to the lighthouse site visit report by World Economic Forum. 10. LG’s business practices and technological innovations reflect a deep-held desire to help improve people’s lives and make a positive impact on the planet. LG always believes that Life’s Good and aims to create innovative technologies and products that present exceptional values, contributing to a smarter, more convenient way of living and ultimately leading to a Better Life for All. This belief led LG to establish the LIFE’S GOOD AWARD, an innovation challenge that was held for the very first time in 2022. LIFE’S GOOD AWARD First announced at CES 2022, the LIFE’S GOOD AWARD gave innovators from all around the world the opportunity to share their novel ideas for technology-driven solutions targeting environmental sustainability – Innovation for the Planet – or accessibility – Innovation for People. A total of 334 entrants – individuals and groups – from 61 countries participated in LG’s inaugural innovation challenge, with four finalists chosen among them by an expert jury comprised of renowned ESG scholars, LG’s own executives and the head of LG Technology Ventures. Revealed at CES 2023, Dot Inc. and Day1Lab of South Korea, SOLUTUM of Israel and NONA Technologies of the United States will compete in a final pitching session to decide the ultimate winner. Read on to learn about the four finalists’ innovative solutions that could help solve global challenges and how those solutions align with LG’s vision for a Better Life for All. Innovations Creating a Better Life for All Dot Inc.: Bridging the Information Divide for People With Visual Impairments “We want to build bridges that connect the visually impaired to their families, and to society.” Since 2015, South Korea’s Dot Inc. has been working on creating assistive technology for the visually impaired, such as the highly inventive Dot Braille Smartwatch. Dot Inc. has more than 120 technology patents to its name and was the winner of Titanium Lion at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity 2022. The company also won Best of Innovation in the Accessibility category at CES 2023. Dot Inc.’s entry for the LIFE’S GOOD AWARD is ‘Dot pad’, a display solution designed to bridge the information gap for the visually impaired. With 2,400 braille pins – or ‘dots’ – which move up and down, the novel device converts images, maps and other diverse digital information from connected devices such as computers and mobile phones into tactile graphics for visually impaired users to feel and comprehend. Thanks to Dot Inc.’s innovative ‘Dot Cell’ electromagnet actuator technology, the game-changing device is twenty times smaller and ten times lighter than similar types of displays currently on the market, providing a far more convenient way for sight-impaired users to find and access information. Day1Lab: Reducing Microplastics With Biodegradable Plastic Technology “We want to see the dawn of a plastic-free world.” Starting life in 2021 as a research team at Korea’s Seoul National University College of Engineering, Day1Lab strives to develop alternative plastic materials to solve the global problem of microplastic waste. The environmentally focused startup has been honored with various awards, including the K-Startup Award (Prime Minister of State Award), the Environmental Entrepreneurship Idea Award (Minister of Environment Award) and the SK hynix Startup Idea Award. For the LIFE’S GOOD AWARD, Day1Lab presented a carbohydrate complex alternative plastic solution that, according to the startup’s internal test results, completely degrades naturally in freshwater after about two weeks, and in the earth after about two months. The jury lauded Day1Lab’s waste-fighting invention, noting its superiority over petroleum-based solutions which are the current status quo for biodegradable plastic solutions. With ongoing research in biodegradable plastics for a microplastic-free world, there’s much more to come in Day1Lab’s future. SOLUTUM: Bioplastic That Dissolves Without Toxic Residue “What would you like to leave behind for future generations?” SOLUTUM is an innovative clean-tech startup that, like Day1Lab, is targeting the monumental challenge of ending plastic pollution. The company has successfully developed a novel plastic material and biodegradable technologies and has been selected as a sustainability innovator by Mass Challenge, the Coller Startup Competition and Seagate. For the LIFE’S GOOD AWARD, SOLUTUM proposed a new plastic solution that degrades naturally without leaving behind any toxins. The material decomposes almost completely (90.2 percent) when put in freshwater for 56 days, and can be produced on existing plastic assembly lines – factors that have helped SOLUTUM secure a partnership with a leading beverage company. NONA Technologies: Desalination Solution for Combating the Climate Crisis and Water Scarcity “Make your own purified water anywhere.” Made up of MIT School of Engineering and Sloan School of Management graduates, NONA Technologies develops water treatment technology that converts seawater to freshwater for industrial and domestic use. NONA Technologies submitted a creative desalination solution for the LIFE’S GOOD AWARD. Devised in response to climate change and grounded on Ion Concentration Polarization (ICP) technologies, the solution is able to remove viruses, bacteria, salt and debris from water. The new innovation can be applied at a smaller scale than existing desalination technologies and offers the added benefits of higher energy efficiency, lower costs and lighter weight. As such, NONA Technologies’ creation could prove immensely useful in natural disasters or water shortages, providing affected communities with a reliable supply of drinkable water. The four finalists of the LIFE’S GOOD AWARD were selected based on the huge potential of their innovations to contribute to a Better Life for All. To find out more about how these warm-hearted, technology-driven solutions can create positive changes for people and the planet, check out the LIFE’S GOOD AWARD Conference, taking place at LG Sciencepark in Magok, South Korea, on January 16. 12. Starting off the new year with the world’s most exciting, influential tech show, CES returned to an in-person affair with a bang after two years of coming to you in online and hybrid formats. And by gathering companies from around the world under one roof to present their most innovative products and solutions to date, it turned out to be the biggest and best edition of the trade show where we can get a first glimpse at the future of technology. This year, based on the idea that the answer is always with the customer, LG presented the meaning behind its ‘Life’s Good’ vision by demonstrating how its latest and greatest products and technologies enhance their quality of life and take the user experience to unimaginable levels. Upon entering the LG booth, visitors passed through the company’s latest gigantic OLED installation, which has become the must-see attraction at every CES event of the last decade. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of LG OLED, this year’s OLED attractor, OLED Horizon, comprised 260 flexible and open-frame 55-inch OLED displays which enabled it to take on a new, completely captivating shape inspired by revolutionary OLED’s historic legacy as much as its expansive future. Greeting visitors inside the booth were four ultra-large LG SIGNATURE OLED M (model M3) TVs seamlessly put together to display the most mesmerizing images as they appeared to float in mid-air, untethered by wires or cables. The world’s first 4K 120Hz TV with a wireless AV connection, M3 employs a separate Zero Connect box that enables the wireless transmitting of video and audio signals as well as connections to external devices, affording users a simpler installation process and even more freedom when designing the interior of their dream home. Another great new OLED innovation on display at CES this year, the LG OLED T is just as much a work of art as it is a display, thanks to a beautiful combination of glass, wood and revolutionary transparent screen technology. Featuring a wireless AV connection and the ability to see through its high-resolution screen, even when in use, the LG OLED T provides a multi-mix of reality and fantasy that harmonizes on-screen content with physical objects or spaces to create the content of the future. The LG space was also home to other new OLED TVs, like the LG Micro LED model that delivers unprecedented cinematic viewing experiences courtesy of its massive 136-inch 4K resolution screen and rapid 120Hz refresh rate. With a modular design that makes installation and set-up quick and easy, each tile connects wirelessly to eliminate the hassle of arranging multiple cables. Just a few meters away, the ultra-premium LG SIGNATURE OLED 8K TV (model 88Z3) delivered CES attendees the realistic visuals that must be seen to be believed through the detailed, razor-sharp image quality that its giant 88-inch display supports. Visitors could also discover how LG OLED TVs synchronize with people’s unique lifestyles and tastes, with a special room that utilized the company’s 97-inch LG OLED M, LG Soundbar (model S95QR) and projection displays to illustrate a new, incredibly immersive multi-screen experience as well as a look into the multi-sensory possibilities of today and tomorrow. The power of OLED was not limited to the company’s TVs either. Equipped with the world’s first 240Hz OLED panel, LG’s latest premium UltraGear gaming monitors – in new 27- and 45-inch sizes – deliver a record-breaking response time of 0.03 milliseconds (Gray-to-Gray). With an immersion-enhancing 800R curvature, the show-stopping 45-inch model harnesses the immense potential of OLED with a 240Hz refresh rate that guarantees total gaming immersion every time. Also celebrating 10 years since the first gram was introduced to the world, LG marked the occasion by revealing two 2023 LG gram models at CES. The thinnest gram ever made, LG gram Ultraslim weighs just 998 grams and boasts a depth of 10.99 millimeters. Also, LG gram Style laptops, which come in 14 and 16 inches, boast an elegant glass design that makes it easier to express their unique style at home, in the office and on the go. Introducing new products that provide extraordinary brand experiences based on experimental ideas and bold designs, LG Labs made its debut at CES 2023. As a new product within LG, the zone featured fresh new products and prototypes – pluspot, Monshoecl, brid.zzz, hover gym and excicle – that visitors could all experience in-person. The Better Life for All zone highlighted the company’s continuing commitment and efforts to achieve sustainability. This includes the eco-friendly practices it has applied from product design to disposal, as well as the multiple design innovations it has made to ensure everyone, no matter their ability, can easily enjoy the endless benefits and convenience provided by cutting-edge LG products. Not only is LG striving to be the most sustainable company, but also the most accessible. This is why visitors could listen to their way around the large LG booth as well as all the major content that was created exclusively for this occasion. Every zone even provided braille inscriptions for the visually impaired. Embarking on a new era of premium appliances with leading-edge performance and exquisitely refined designs, LG introduced its second generation of LG SIGNATURE products including OLED R, Dual InstaView refrigerator, a washer and dryer pair, air conditioner, air purifier and the Wine Cellar. Another eye-catching zone was dedicated to its LG MoodUP refrigerators, which exuded an array of vivid colors that captivated CES attendees. First unveiled at IFA 2022, this unique refrigerator can express the user’s unique personality, mood or style by transforming the kitchen’s ambiance by switching through a wide palette of door colors and providing music streaming to “turn your MoodUP.” Finally, the Lifestyle Zone was divided into three different sections based on the household’s distinct persona: creator, big family as well as the newlyweds and pet lover. Especially the Creator’s Room, designed with the famous New York-based designer Jeff Staple, presented the perfect space for trendsetters and creators, with LG ARTCOOL Gallery air conditioner, WashTower, Styler and the advantages of LG ThinQ more than enough to satisfy their individual tastes and preferences. Within the family zone, LG created a smart home fully equipped with advanced, large-capacity appliances supporting LG ThinQ Care Service and ThinQ UP. Meanwhile, the zone for newlyweds and pet lovers utilized diverse products such as LG WashTower, PuriCare Aero Furniture and tiiun which all boast trendy yet minimalist designs, are made from recycled materials and show off incredible features that make them easy to use by people of all abilities. 13. Trees are vital. There is no denying how trillions of trees around the world are central to all life on Earth. Not only do Mother Nature’s skyscrapers provide clean, fresh air and cozy habitats to thousands of living species, but they also help us combat climate change and preserve biodiversity for many decades to come. In ensuring that this legacy can be passed onto future generations, LG Indonesia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Conservation of Natural Resources Jakarta to celebrate their 32 years of operation in Indonesia. For this purpose, the company pledged to plant 32,000 trees across Jakarta, Kalimantan and Sumatra by April 2023. Jay Jang, director of marketing and relations at LG Electronics Indonesia, shaking hands with Abdul Kodir, head of the Conservation of Natural Resources Jakarta This initiative sheds light on LG’s commitment to environmental sustainability in Indonesia in the same fashion as the company’s eco-friendly solutions, products and technologies, including their energy-saving inverter technology, which helps customers achieve a more eco-conscious lifestyle by improving energy efficiency. Incorporated into a wide range of household appliances, such as refrigerators, washing machines and air conditioners, this cutting-edge inverter provides users with peace of mind as they are able to easily manage their ecological footprints. However, LG’s efforts toward environmental sustainability extend well beyond the tree-planting initiative. The company’s technological interventions also complement its commitment to reach carbon neutrality by 2030, through the minimization of carbon emissions and footprints across the overall process, from production to disposal. LG is endlessly passionate about raising global awareness of environmental sustainability, not only through its technological innovation and world-leading products but also by implementing various environmental interventions designed in order to make life better for people of all backgrounds and localities. 15. As the world welcomes in the new year, LG is busy ushering in a new era in TV with the announcement of its new vision statement, “Sync to You, Open to All.” The company’s vision for the present and future of screen is all about syncing the user experience to each user’s individual tastes and lifestyle. It’s a vision that sees the screen as a seamless extension of people’s everyday life; a place where one can go to be entertained, to connect, to pursue their passions and so much more. “Sync to You, Open to All,” although new, is a continuance of LG’s long-term commitment to changing the role of TV. The company aims to realize its vision by reflecting customer opinion throughout the entire user experience journey, factoring feedback into every single facet – from product and service development to User Interface (UI) features, design and, of course, the viewing experience. In LG’s reimagining of what television is, the living room TV is now considered a lifestyle hub – one centered on the delivery of a personalized, customizable experience that lets users do and be more. “Sync to You” relates to the delivery of a user experience that takes personalization to the next level. In terms of hardware, this means the introduction of new and diverse screen products intended for different audiences. These will include screens leveraging Zero Connect technology, to provide spatial and interior design freedom, flexible screens that users can ‘bend’ to their needs and screens that eschew conventional design. As far as software is concerned, “Sync to You” focuses on providing unique experiences optimized for each user, thanks to webOS, LG’s open and constantly evolving smart TV platform. This encompasses the ability to customize a broad range of functions and settings to one’s preferences, starting with UI configuration, content recommendations and picture quality. But it also extends to the provision of an expanded customer experience, thanks to a wide range of interactive services from categories as diverse as cloud gaming, the metaverse, remote learning, home security, home fitness or health. A variety of virtual worlds can also be accessed, from DASVERSE, a virtual art museum allowing you to walk inside and explore emotions beyond the creative work or SANSAR, the world first TV metaverse service, a full mixed reality platform offering life events that happen at the same time in both realities and Orbit, a new cloud solution allowing users to access interconnected digital worlds. The Masterclass app on LG TVs offer access to over 180 classes taught by the world’s best instructors and thanks to a new partnership with ADT, LG TV owners can benefit from integrated services developed exclusively for webOS. LG TVs also offer a variety of fitness services from Xponential, world’s largest fitness group and Les Mill, to MaxPro, which allows to connect a fitness machine to the TV and Exercite, a motion sensor solution that recognizes your body’s posture. The second part of LG’s vision statement, “Open to All,” is about collaboration, inclusivity and sustainability. Through open collaboration, LG TV users will be able to connect to different platforms and devices across an ever-growing ecosystem. Communication and control will be especially smooth thanks to support for Matter, the latest open connectivity standard for smart home solutions. LG TV is also designed to be accessible to all users, regardless of their age or abilities. In consultation with its accessibility advisory group, whose members include people living with various disabilities, LG is continuously developing and rolling out inclusive technologies and features. Among those currently offered on LG TV are audio-to-text captions and a sign language screen that can be easily moved and resized whenever the user desires. There are also services available on LG TV that have been created specifically with elderly users and children in mind. Sustainability is another integral element of LG TV and of LG’s vision. All LG TV products are shipped in boxes that feature one-color printing and have been made from biodegradable materials. The TVs themselves contain parts fabricated from recycled plastics. LG’s OLED TVs deserve special mention when it comes to sustainability, using a smaller number of components and offering greater recyclability than their LCD counterparts. Furthermore, since they do not require a backlight having fewer parts overall, there is less to recycle and dispose of. Guided by its new vision statement “Sync to You, Open to All,” and a firmly held belief that “Life’s Good,” LG is and will continue to provide LG TV users with differentiated lifestyle experiences and exceptional customer value. # # # View the full article
  16. During Press Conference in Las Vegas, Company Shares Plans to Broaden Business Portfolio with Platforms, Content and Diverse, New Solutions LAS VEGAS, Jan. 7, 2022 — LG Electronics’ (LG) CEO William Cho and key executives reiterated the company’s vision for the future as well as its strategy to strengthen business competitiveness during a press conference held especially for Korean media in Las Vegas, Nevada, U.S.A., on January 6. The CEO began by mentioning that, despite the uncertainty created by the prolonged global economic recession and continuing supply chain instability, opportunities still exist within the current environment. “We will keep pushing forward with our belief that opportunities can always be found by concentrating on how to provide our customers with new experiences and value,” said CEO Cho. The CEO continued by sharing the company’s main focus in regard to business structure. “We will create a competitive business structure, making targeted improvements rather than focusing on short-term cost reduction,” he stated. “To this end, LG’s existing businesses will overcome current limitations by changing their model and methods, while our new businesses will grow through in-house innovation and the establishment of strategic partnerships.” Securing Future Growth Engines by Expanding Hardware and Software Solutions Portfolio During the press conference, company executives talked about plans to expand LG’s hardware-focused business to non-hardware areas, such as software platforms, content, services and solutions. This will enable the company to diversify its overall business portfolio by providing customized services and solutions that can be paired with or offered separately to its innovative consumer electronics products. LG will further advance its content and services business through the intuitive LG webOS platform, which currently powers more than 180 million LG smart TVs worldwide. From 2018 to 2022, LG’s webOS licensing business grew ten-fold, with more and more TV manufacturers adopting the platform for its ease-of-use, customizability and range of premium services, including LG Channels – the company’s free TV and IP channels service. As of 2022, more than 300 TV brands have chosen webOS, with LG continuously increasing the capabilities and compatibility of its acclaimed smart TV platform. LG is also developing its own interactive content such as LG Fitness, an app that provides access to a wide selection of workout videos, and LG Art Lab, a platform for collecting, trading and displaying non-fungible token (NFT) artworks. Both services were recognized for their innovative design and user experience at the CES 2023 Innovation Award. Another of LG’s non-hardware offerings, the LG ThinQ smart home platform has gone far beyond the mere linking of household devices, evolving to encompass the entire customer journey, with services that leverage the collection of usage data to create a more personalized experience. In the high-growth arena of electric vehicle (EV) components, the LG Vehicle component Solutions (VS) Company is now delivering meaningful results after 10 years of sustained investment in software development and future-technology preparation. Last year’s order backlog of KRW 80 trillion demonstrates the global competitiveness of the VS Company, which has become a trusted innovation partner to some of the auto industry’s biggest names. The VS Company is also preparing the launch of its next-generation In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) system – a solution that is expected to further boost the performance and reputation of its EV components business. Moreover, LG is expanding into EV charging solutions, following up its 2022 acquisition of a company specialized in EV chargers with the establishment of a production line at LG Digital Park in Pyeongtaek, South Korea. Furthermore, LG VS is introducing an integrated EV charging solution, as well as developing and producing EV chargers and charging control systems. LG is also accelerating the development of future core technologies outside of the EV components sector. In particular, LG NOVA (LG North American Innovation Center) is strategically investing in and working with promising technology startups in North America to secure future growth engines in areas such as digital healthcare and the metaverse. In digital healthcare, LG recently launched a remote medical treatment solution developed in partnership with Amwell, a U.S. telemedicine company, while in the metaverse, the company is aiming to expand cooperation with partners to secure core technologies over the mid- to long-term. Additionally, LG seeks to establish a ‘future technology pipeline’ and strengthen company-wide software competitiveness. Along with accelerating the CTO’s future-ready R&D program, the company is securing top young talent in the field of software development as well as nurturing the software design and coding capabilities of current personnel. LG is also expanding the customer experience through its company-in-company (CIC) operations, and via collaborations with startups and the sponsoring of innovation contests. A total of five CICs are operating under LG, including the Sprout Company, responsible for the groundbreaking LG tiiun indoor gardening appliance. Overcoming Limitations and Achieving Consumer-Oriented Performance LG will be focusing on the user experience even more on 2023, delivering new products and services that provide outstanding convenience and unique value to consumers. Last year, the company introduced a new paradigm in the home appliance industry with the launch of its LG ThinQ UP personalized appliances, lifestyle solutions that can evolve to offer more and more value over time. Appliances with ThinQ UP, previously available only in South Korea, will be sold globally from this year, starting in North America. The company will continue to introduce category-leading, premium home appliances this year, with its 2023 lineup including advanced solutions such as the WashTower and LG refrigerators with MoodUP. At the same time, the company will enhance its more competitively-priced product lines to solidify its market leadership. This year, the LG Home Entertainment Company is ramping up changes to its business structure and embracing a new vision: Sync to you, Open to All. The new vision emphasizes the creation of experiences that can be tailored to each customer’s needs, tastes and lifestyle while, at the same time, enjoyed by all users. Presenting differentiated value that can’t be found elsewhere, the company is set to redefine the viewing and user experience by enhancing content and services on the webOS platform. Key features added to webOS for 2023 include a new home screen with a revamped user interface for better, more convenient user experiences; next-level personalization with customized recommendations based on users’ viewing and usage history; and CDX (Cross Device eXperience), a user experience that flows seamlessly from device to device. Staying on the subject of home entertainment innovation, LG has been the leader of the OLED TV market for an entire decade now, with cumulative shipments of LG OLED TVs exceeding 15 million units. This year, the company will maintain its competitive edge by introducing new OLED evo TVs – adding on to the exciting 2023 lineup that also includes an OLED TV with Zero Connect Box. Uncovering Customer Value Based on ‘F.U.N.’ Experiences The company plans to prioritize customer experience (CX) and digital transformation (DX) initiatives to bring more innovation to the customer experience and to create a more customer-centric business model. The company is committed to using data-driven insights to produce new customer value based on the delivery of first, unique and new (or F.U.N.) experiences. LG is leveraging a variety of data to enhance its offerings and the experiences they provide. These include ‘Trigger’ – data used to develop and design the customer experience; ‘Accelerator’ – data used to map out and implement customer experience innovations; and ‘Tracker’ – data used to monitor the customer experience. The company has already launched products designed based on the above customer data, including the MoodUP refrigerator and the 42-inch OLED TV. LG is also using data to make production more efficient. Utilizing intelligent manufacturing systems based on digital twin technology, AI and big data, the LG Smart Park in Changwon has improved productivity by 20 percent1 while simultaneously reducing product defect costs.2 Additionally, the company’s adoption of DX is being extended to the procurement of raw materials, supply chain management (SCM) and services. Becoming a Brand that Moves Customers’ Hearts through Endless Innovation With its brand mission of Innovation for a Better Life, the company remains committed to building a better future for people and the planet. LG is also continuing its efforts to become a brand that resonates with all generations, with products and services that have unique value that speaks to everyone, regardless of demographic. In Korea, the company recently introduced experiential spaces – such as the Gold Star Arcade and ThinQ Room Escape – designed with younger customers in mind and is fostering digital communities for diverse products including LG gram, tiiun and StanbyME. LG’s commitment to elevating the customer experience is equaled by its dedication to environmental sustainability and accessibility. In terms of sustainability, the company plans to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030 and transition all power sources to renewable energy by 2050. And by 2030, LG aims to have used a total of 60 million tons of recycled plastics in the production of new products. E-waste collection will be expanded as well as the company strives to create a circular economy that minimizes waste and resource consumption. To provide appliances that are convenient for everyone to use, the company is increasing its focus on accessibility. Various efforts conducted in South Korea include the production of product manuals incorporating sign language and voice instructions, the creation of braille stickers for diverse appliance lineups and a sign language option for customer services. Within the company itself, CEO Cho will continue his drive to improve communications with employees and build a healthy, inclusive workplace and culture. Mr. Cho held six of his ‘CEO F.U.N. Talks’ in 2022, the sixth of which was used to deliver his year-end address. Throughout the talks, which allowed the CEO to respond to comments and questions from LG personnel in real time, Mr. Cho spoke about the importance of operating with transparency and sincerity, and always putting the customer’s needs first. 17. A celebrated CES tradition was back this year – bigger and better after the pandemic hiatus – from LG, the global leader in OLED technology, with the LG OLED Horizon, the latest exhibition welcoming visitors into the company’s massive CES booth. Constructed with 260 flexible and open-frame 55-inch displays, the showstopping CES 2023 installation demonstrated LG OLED’s unrivaled picture quality and ability to assume unique form factors. Measuring 6 meters high and 25 meters wide, the exhibit captivated tens of thousands of CES 2023 attendees in a breathtaking journey curated by Mother Nature herself. A stunning blend of art and technology and a fitting tribute to the now 10-year legacy of innovation that is LG OLED, the Horizon created an immersive viewing experience with incredibly vibrant images on a virtually seamless, panoramic screen. LG OLED, considered the most evolved display technology on the planet, delivers stunning pictures with absolute blacks and incredible contrast from any vantage point. Self-lighting pixels, which can be turned on and off individually, help make images incredibly lifelike. Without the need for a backlight, LG’s self-lit OLED displays are thin, lightweight and bendable. The unique and legendary installation at the main entrance to Central Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center enticed visitors to experience 2023 LG OLED TVs, led by unique wireless and transparent models featured inside the LG booth. The 97-inch LG SIGNATURE OLED M (model M3) is the world’s first consumer TV with Zero Connect technology, a wireless solution capable of real-time video and audio transmission at up to 4K 120Hz. The revolutionary new M3 OLED TV delivers superior picture and sound quality as well as greater flexibility to install and connect, earning coveted CES 2023 Innovation Awards in two categories. LG OLED Wave, the installation on display at the entrance of LG’s booth during CES 2020 Since 2016, LG OLED installations have been must-see attractions at major international events. LG’s first memorable OLED installation at CES, 2016’s LG OLED Tunnel, featured a dome-shaped configuration and displayed mesmerizing scenes of the night sky, winning LG a Red Dot Award for Spatial Communication. The next year, Senses of the Future, a large-scale light-based artwork presented at Milan Design Week, won the Milano Design Award 2017 for best installation, making LG the first Korean company ever to receive this accolade, and the Red Dot Grand Prix in the Spatial Communication category. 18. The focal point for entertainment in many homes, the household television is often the centerpiece of the living room, where it typically maintains a significant presence. Knowing that a lot of people nowadays want something that blends in rather than stands out, LG has created an exciting, diverse range of TVs that delivers differentiated value and new spatial and interior-design freedom. To showcase the unique value of its Lifestyle Screen products, LG is presenting an exclusive and stylish experience at CES 2023 in partnership with premium Dutch lifestyle brand, Moooi. At CES, LG and Moooi are once again teaming up to present a seamless and inspiring integration of technology, interior and lifestyle. The special CES exhibit also underscores LG’s respect for and understanding of the diverse needs and different priorities of today’s consumers; its innovative range of products offers something for everyone, no matter their interests or tastes. Coming under the Lifestyle Screen umbrella, LG OLED Objet Collection models provide beauty and greater spatial and decorating flexibility, functioning as sophisticated interior objects that elevate the look and atmosphere of one’s abode. The LG OLED Objet Collection Easel, for example, is ideal for those who want to bring a modern art gallery vibe to their living room. The TV, which – as its name suggests – resembles an easel used for painting or presenting art, can be installed leaning elegantly against the wall. In this way, the Easel itself looks very much like a piece of art displayed in a casual (but intentional) manner at a chic salon.1 LG OLED Objet Collection Easel also features a distinctive, movable cover finished with fabric by luxury Danish textile brand, Kvadrat. The TV’s design, though highly distinctive, blends in effortlessly with any style of home décor or color palette. The Easel’s stylish sibling, LG OLED Objet Collection Posé works as a premium screen and furniture piece. The TV prioritizes flexible installation and ‘living space integration,’ adding style to any setting with a flowing but angular form featuring soft, rounded corners and clean lines. Additionally, Posé is relatively simple to move from one place to another,2 a benefit that makes it easy for users to change up their space whenever the mood takes them. And when it is not being used for watching movies or shows, the TV can be switched to Gallery mode, which transforms the screen into a digital canvas for showcasing stunning works of art. Visitors to LG’s booth at CES will also be able to see the company’s brand-new Lifestyle Screen product, the Transparent OLED screen. A fitting way to celebrate a decade of LG OLED innovation, the transparent screen represents the pinnacle of display technology. The futuristic product offers new, lifestyle-enhancing experiences and a level of interior design and installation freedom that has simply never existed – until now. The transparent glass screen of the Transparent OLED screen provides a sense of openness, while its bentwood base brings an element of the natural world indoors. Setting itself apart from conventional TVs, the screen matches any interior style and can be placed wherever the user wishes, even in the middle of the living room or right in front of a window. Going ‘beyond the screen’, the Transparent OLED screen also offers a new type of user experience with its transparent gallery mode – showcasing art that seems to interact with the surrounding space. And in black mode, the TV provides the ultimate OLED viewing environment, no matter where it is installed or the type of content it is displaying. Another product in the Lifestyle Screen family, LG OLED Flex is a “one screen fits all” solution that ‘bends’ to the user’s needs. In addition to the superb picture quality and fast response time of LG’s OLED display tech and diverse features for content viewing and gaming, the Flex boasts a bendable screen that can be easily adjusted from completely flat (ideal for watching movies and TV programs) to a spectacular 900R curvature (perfect for immersive gaming). A display companion for the home, LG StanbyME can be easily taken from room to room thanks to its moving stand design. This versatility, along with a built-in battery that delivers true cordless freedom, means LG StanbyME can be placed wherever – and be used for whatever – one needs. Each of the unique Lifestyle Screen products on show at CES illustrates the advanced technological and design capabilities that have secured LG its well-earned reputation as a global lifestyle innovator and leader in the continuing evolution of household TV. LG Lifestyle Screen products have received Best of Innovation Awards being recognized for the technological and design excellence of lifestyle solutions. # # # 1 Angle of Leaning Install can be adjusted to a maximum of 5˚. This is an approximate figure and an exact 5˚ angle is not guaranteed. Leaning Install requires wall mount installation. 2 Wall mount installation possible by detaching TV from stand base.
