Hi
I've got an LG Smart TV 43UM  7400PLB and am looking to buy an external hard drive so I can pause live TV and record programs. I'm currently using a much smaller capacity USB which can't pause live TV and will soon be full.
I've read on various forums that certain hard drives won't work or that I'll need to buy a certain connecting cable.

I was thinking of buying a Seagate 2TB drive, (STGX2000400) which is around £55.

Can anyone recommend one or confirm that the Seagate one will be okay.

Thanks.

I can confirm that the following 1TB self powered Seagate USB Hard disk works very well, with my LG Smart TV.

It is an older USB disk drive but still keeps up recording high definition TV without any problems.

Hi.
Many thanks for the reply. I’ll order the drive.  There are so many options out there, thought best to check.
Much appreciated.

      Negritoru A

Hello! I have a TV model 43UA740003LB, which resets excessively often, especially when used for streaming, but worryingly, it also resets when used as a TV. Can you help me understand what are the reasons why the TV resets so often? Best regards, Negritoru A

As per the subject line, I have had a USB drive connected to my television for over four years, but for the past few days it has not been recognising the directories where my films and music are organised, and is displaying EVERYTHING in a single list of over a thousand files.
It is a 1TB drive (half of the maximum 2TB allowed) with a power supply, formatted as NTFS, and not completely full.
I have checked the drive and it has no bad sectors. I have tried connecting it to both USB ports and all the files are in the permitted format (avi, mkv, mp4, mp3, etc.).
I have also tried another 1TB drive, but the result is the same.
Do I need to reconfigure something in the television settings?
It would be a significant loss if I cannot resolve this issue.
Thank you in advance for your responses.

Hi all, last week I got my new LG 65" C4 Oled delivered.
I investigated using first a 32Gb memory stick for recording live programmes and pause live TV facility.
I was able to record programmes but the Live TV would not work 🥲
The LG usb is the slower 2.0 spec but I read that most low current SSD drives should still work fine with 2.0
Today I received a 240Gb drive with Sata to usb 3.0 cable (3.0 is backwards compatible with 2.0).
I can confirm that everyting works fine and for just £17.40 I now have pause live TV and loads of space for recording programmes.
I used AliExpress and they if you buy using the "choice" option you get free 7day delivery to UK with detailed tracking 👍
