Youtube app stopped working 55UF6807

Question

Posted (edited)

After last week's Youtube app update on my LG 55UF6807 I am unable to use the app anymore. The update was applied on 18.11.2017 (Saturday).

I have tried reinstalling the app. Since no downgrade functionality is  possible then I would like to ask - what can I do to get the app back to a working condition?

Other apps work - I can stream Netflix and use the browser etc.

Added a screenshot of the view greeting me when opening the app. Casting does not work, the visible page is not usable in any way either.

Seems to be WebOS is generally flaky in LG TV's. Most common error with Apps is the 'Restarting app to free up memory ...' error that has been seen for years on LG TV's - basically LG don't install sufficient memory to run WebOS apps properly.

Or possibly the apps are badly written and do not manage the memory properly, causing say memory leaks.  It is not like LG is the only one who has issues with apps falling over or freezing OSs, just search for issues with Samsung.  Many of the available apps are written by third parties who may have less than a perfect knowledge of what they are doing.

Hi bigr,

The YouTube app updated on my TV during the week and shows as being released on the 21/11/2017, version 1.0.35 (19783f6e) which theoretically newer than your installation so my give you better results if it is available in your region.

Unfortunately the November YouTube update has made the memory restart issue worse than before, it now crashes more frequently if anything and still no adequate solution offered by LG or Google,  My solution was to forget the flaky WebOS apps, installed a cheap Roku streaming stick and now enjoy zillions of apps including YouTube that all work perfectly.

Just got off the phone to lg support. I was told the web browser shuts down when attempting to stream video ON PURPOSE! Furthermore, once you stream anything from the internet, the cache fills up, does not clear, and prevents the installed apps from functioning properly.  I was told that the OS is a web browser NOT a web streaming service and if they allow customers access to stream video they will be in breach of their contractual agreement to the companies who have apps on the TV. This clearly doesn't happen on tablets or phones, so their logic for creating a sub par product is utter bollocks. I specifically asked the salesman if I could stream video from the internet and was told absolutely yes. When I pointed this out to Lg customer service they re-iterated that a web browser does not confer the ability to stream video. This is misleading the customer, and effectively censoring and filtering internet content.  This must stop!

Hello.

So is there a solution?

I have the newest Youtube app which was updated at the end of 2017.

My TV is 55UH600V.

Same screen message for me.

Any suggestions?

I heard that Youtube ended support for TVs that are older (2012 and below), but mine is made in 2016 JUNE.

Thank You!

I recently bought a 50NANO90A6B TV and so far I have to say it's a fantastic upgrade from my old Sony 40".
However, I've one small niggle problem (only had the TV since Sunday)... The YouTube app doesn't seem to want to work! it shows the logo with a spinny circle, then the logo starts again with the spinny circle... this just repeats over and over.
All other apps (iPlayer, Jellyfin, Plex, ITV, CH4 etc...) work as does the LGTV app, so the WiFi connection is fine!
I've uninstalled and reinstalled the YouTube app a few times, but it does the same each time!
Anyone know how I can sort this? any other suggestions for fixing it!
I'm currently using my Chromecast with GoogleTV for YouTube at the moment.
I'm in the UK by the way! And the TV is set to that, in all the relevant settings locations.

I'm not getting any audio from the apps via the HDMI via ARC connection to my receiver.  This occurred two weeks ago and was unable to resolve it, but ironically there was new firmware released that same day for my B6 (3/31/17) and this fixed the issue.  However, now I again can't get it working after a TV reset and tinkering with the audio settings again.  I tried to load the firmware again, but it appears this is not possible to forceable load the same firmware.
