Netflix does not stream HD on 4K TV 49UF84

Question

Posted

Hello,

I got my LG 49UF84 smart TV on the weekend. The first thing I did was setting up Netflix, because I use the TV for streaming movies and tv shows only, I don't watch TV stations.

First, I watched Narcos, which is a Netflix show in 4k. It was great. But this was the last time, I ever got 4K. When I press the "Info" button on my remote ("magic remote"), I see the quality on the top left of the screen. Most of the time it shows 480p. Sometimes even 288p (!). I only hat 720p and 1080p once, during 6 hours of watching Netflix.

First I thought it's a connection problem, so I opened the web browser and started a speedtest - it's over 40MBit/s. Netflix 4K needs 15-25MBit as far as I know. I even plugged it to the modem, instead of using WiFi. No changes so far. Is there an option on the Netflix app, that it should use the best possible quality when possible? I mean, it's not bad quality, it's really a great TV. But when I buy a 4K TV, I expect that the 4K functionality works on the biggest movie streaming service.

Does anyone have/had similar experiences and even got a solution?

Thanks so far!

I'm not sure why you have such problem.  In general, if you streaming, it's best to use wire.  WiFi may have enough bandwidth but it bandwidth is not a constant bandwidth.  Wireless is VERY sensitive to inference of things surrounding.  Even when someone walk by may be effective.  It may not happen often depend on your environment but you don't want your show to stop and buffer at the climate moment.  I used to have the opposite problem.  I have Comcast and they do have data cap.  4K use a lot more data than HD but I can't find a way to downgrade 4K show to HD.  But now Comcast allow me to pay extra to get unlimited plan.

Sorry, I should have mark it as SOLVED. I figured out, that there was a problem between my ISP and Netflix. My ISP restricted sometimes Netflix traffic, especially 4k streaming. I configured my router, so I use VPN - so my ISP cannot restrict the traffic any more. This was my solution!

I don't want to create another thread, so I try that one: since the last webOS update, it's not possible to see the current used resolution on Netflix. When I press the "Info" button, there is no time+resolution field in the top left area. Is it possible to "restore" this, or is there a restriction due to the Netflix app?

Thanks !

Looking at these complaints in other forums it appears NETFLIX have done this feature removal...... AH's

It is a great feature to check when your stream has diminished in quality for what ever reason.....

Looks like many people are contacting NF in their region to complain..... and so they should!!!

Thanks for your reply. This is really rubbish. I'll write to Netflix as well. I really loved the small "time-overview" (e.g. 23:15/45:12 after 23 minutes), and the resolution info was a good-to-have as well!

FYI: it's up again for at least 3 months :)

I have the same problem to find current resolution. I use a LG 4K tv, with magic remote and this remote control doesn't have the info button. I download the app LG TV Plus for Android and there's a option to click a info button on a touchpad screen in this app! Problem solved!

In "CMP settings": there is a huge list of vendors, IAB and Google.
You can deselect consent for those.
However when you go back, in the Google consent are all still enabled.
Reject All doesn;t work. Deselecting individually and clicking "Confirm my choices" doesn't work. The Google ones are back on.
      That's really bad, GDPR.

      LG OLED65C2AUA.
webOS TV version webOS25/10.2.2-61. up to date.
software version 33/22.95 up to date.
whenever I watch Netflix it freezes indiscriminately. Once it happened at minute 1:29 of a movie although it can happen at any time. the Netflix error message says to restart which I do but the issue persists. it is to the point where it is unwatchable. however, when I watch it through Firestick it is fine. Other TV's do not have the issue so I am thinking it is something with the TV. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app on the TV. I have powered down the TV. I have reset the router. I am wired with ethernet so not using wifi. any help would be appreciated to fix this issue.

      Hi,
does AirPlay work on your LG projector? I can't get my PF510Q to show up in the Screen Sharing AirPlay menu on my iPhone.
Both the iPhone and the projector are connected to the same WiFi router (both wirelessly, no Ethernet). I tried enabling and disabling IPv6, restarting the router, iPhone and the projector, but still nothing showed up.
Then I connected my MacBook to the same WiFi network and enabled AirPlay Receiver on the MacBook. The iPhone could immediately see the MacBook and stream to it, so it looks like the problem is in the projector.
I should add that the WiFi router isn't connected to the internet, but there is no reason why AirPlay would need internet connection. After all, I was able to connect my iPhone to my MacBook via AirPlay without internet connection.
      Thanks for your insights!

As per the subject line, I have had a USB drive connected to my television for over four years, but for the past few days it has not been recognising the directories where my films and music are organised, and is displaying EVERYTHING in a single list of over a thousand files.
It is a 1TB drive (half of the maximum 2TB allowed) with a power supply, formatted as NTFS, and not completely full.
I have checked the drive and it has no bad sectors. I have tried connecting it to both USB ports and all the files are in the permitted format (avi, mkv, mp4, mp3, etc.).
I have also tried another 1TB drive, but the result is the same.
Do I need to reconfigure something in the television settings?
It would be a significant loss if I cannot resolve this issue.
Thank you in advance for your responses.

I have bought a LG smart TV which runs on WEBOS plat form. But unfortunately it does not have Jio tv+ app.
Please suggest is there any way to run Jio TV+ app to see all the available TV channels in Jio TV plat for without JIO set up Box and Mobile screen cast?

      Thanks,
      Prakash Sahoo
