Won't this delete all my settings, devices and changes?

Yes, but that is sort of the point.

YouTube, Plex and Amazon are the most frequently used apps on my TV.  I cannot recall Amazon ever restarting, Plex has not had an issue since about five revisions ago and even then it was only once or twice.  YouTube has been the most unstable app, which to me says it is more of a programming than an OS/hardware issue.  The latest YouTube update hit my TV a couple of days ago and currently it has been behaving itself, having watched over nearly hours worth of videos without an issue.

Hi George, thanks for the suggestion, I do use screen sharing with my Sony Experia tablet, and that works reasonably well. I just think it's a clumsy substitute for such a simple thing as an e-book reader. PDFs are not what I miss most, but I do read a lot of books in Epub format, and I guess many people do, too. And looking at the apps, I can only see two, one of which can't be downloaded, and the other I don't have an idea how to install, if at all possible (pReader and Popelli reader). And I tried hard to find any information about installing apps on WebOS TV, but no luck so far. I'd really appreciate any suggestion regarding this.

Not that I think Android is a perfect system, but so far WebOS looks like a joke to me.

I only got my OLED 55B7V TV four days ago, and I do love picture and sound, but after four days struggling to find any useful information about anything except basic stuff which is self explanatory anyway, I'm really starting to think about buying some kind of Android TV box, sticking it into the TV and forgetting all about other functionality apart from using it as a monitor. I don't watch live TV anyway...

I could go on about browser, voice control etc, but this is probably off topic already, sorry for that.

It seems that many SMART TV users, not just those of webOS, have a bit of a disconnect between expectation and reality.  They fail to do any research on a product before its purchase then complaining when it does not do what they think it should.  At this point in time the Smart TV is not being designed to be a direct replacement for desktops, laptops or mobile devices.  Many of the feature that users mistakenly believe they will find in webOS are not present in other Smart TV platforms.

Yes the webOS browser is basic, but I doubt it was ever intended to replace fully fledged browser offerings  such as Firefox.  The main complaint raised with the browser is lack of Flash support, but as even Adobe has said they are killing it off why would LG go to the bother of integrating it?  Some content providers are not producing apps for webOS as they are still wedded to Flash being technically unable or unwilling to move to newer technologies that would make it easier for them to migrate their product to an app or allow users to use a browser to access their media.

If you wanted the functionality of Android TV then maybe a Sony Bravia would have been a better purchase than LG, if you wanted voice control then Samsung would have been the way to go.

  3. I am not aware of any large volume Smart TV manufacturer that provides support for using their TVs as a PDF reader, that is not what they are really geared towards doing.  None of the main stream manufacturers are going to suddenly switch to Android TV, firstly they want you to use their ecosystem and secondly they do not want to be at the mercy of Google who have been known to change their mind on products now and again.

Have you thought of screen sharing from a mobile device?

Hi LG WEB OS .   Cant watch nba tv in your internet browser and chromes says my browser isnt updated also.  it would be wonderful if your team could app NBA league pass in apps option .

    thanks

LG don't build the apps (unless I'm guessing they're offered lots of cash to do so) it is down to the content providers to do so.

its a shame: LG PLEASE DO SUPPORT HTML 5.0 for SPOTIFY, its aweful not to have this app,...as Spotify siad when they turned down the app: "......your webbroser will support the spotify wb app" - which DOES NOT work, is not true. PLEASE put a proper web browser on smart TVs, or i get rid of this stuff in short time!

The browser in LG webOS does have support HTML5, although admittedly not on the same level as say Firefox or Opera.

You can test the browser at www.html5test.com

LG are not in the business of building web browsers they are in the business of building a software platform that is there to run apps created by content providers.  It is Spotify that needs urging to sort out their software.

I add my voice to azizout, we need SHAHID app to be added to LG webos like Samsung, it will be a great addition for our region in north Africa and the gulf.

The contact with SHAHID should be done from LG not from the users.

I hope LG don't disappoint us beside they will sell more TVs if this app exist.

    Thank you ...

Sadly LG do not make the apps for webOS that is the responsibility of the the service provider.

Most likely they do not have the staff in house to create an app, so the alternative would be to encourage them to work with and pay LG to produce the app.

Another feature for future TVs is 1Gb Ethernet port ... in 2017 .. use still 100 Mb ... is mistake ....

Well you could add a Gigabit connection, but there is little point as even a 4K stream will run happily over 100Mbps connection.  Recommendations for 4K runs between 13 and 25Mbps depending on which streaming service you believe.

    https://help.hulu.com/s/article/requirements-for-hd?language=en_US

Yes if you have multiple users streaming 4K a Gigabit network might be advisable, but it does not mean that you need a Gigabit port on the device you are streaming to.

Did LG reply to you on this? it is really frustrating that they only want to allow netflix and not iflix

Do let me know if any of you know how to get around this

    Thanks a lot

I would imagine that it is more a case the iFlix have not submitted an app to LG rather than Netflix blocking them.

  10. LG while creating and managing the webOS platform they do not (the majority of the time) produce any apps for the platform.  It is down to content providers to create an app for their programming.

So while it is nice to be able to come to a forum to ask for an app and others can show their support as well, user really need to engage directly with content providers.  It is always useful to point content providers to this forum to help show them that there is a healthy appetite for their services though.

Also it should be remembered that this forum is a user to user site, not an LG to user site.

Even MORE  confusing is if you have an LG TV with web os 3.5, the hbogo app is available.. Watch the video below. Or maybe it's regional and NOT what we've been told.

HBO is regional, for instance it is not available in the UK as SKY TV has the rights to their content.

Done dis in the past. Bud don't like how it work's. Its a workaround.

Lg selling you a nice machine called smart tv. Bud a smart tv without good working apps is that a smart tv!!!!

Look at samsung the apps they have in the app store are batter. Like ds video.

So it would be great to not use workarounds bud to have normal apps that can be used also for my child.

Plex's app for webOS works perfectly, of course you will have to set up a back-end server to use it.

Seems no HBO go app for my 2017 OLED TV?

I've seen mention that LG were first to have an HBO app years ago, but none now... or am I missing it?

    Thanks!!

HBO Go appears to be region dependant going by the many other threads in the forum.

I have LG Uh605V Smart TV and when I open Web browser play any movies or anything, web browser closed and appear notice after 40 to an hour. A notice appears and shows in the TV screen ' Web browser has been closed unexpectedly. Do you want to resume the last web page? and option box Yes or no? '

It is webOS, it does that.  One forum (https://www.lgwebos.com/profile/18098-leigh/) member has been told by LG support that this behaviour is deliberate, if you have a look at Liegh's posts you find the explanation.
