Problem with software version 05.80.35

Alcides Andrade

Question

I have lg tv model 49UJ6525, last weekend the tv updated to version 05.80.35, but now I realized that I can no longer use the 5 GHz WIFI network, the network is disconnecting and connecting all the time. I did a test with the 2.4 Ghz network and it works normal, but I would like to use the 5GHz network.
Is it possible to solve this problem?

@Alcides Andrade It might be that the new update is making the 5G more sensitive to interference on channels. If you have a laptop or desktop that can access 5G WiFi, download the neat program "WiFiInfoView" from here:

link hidden, please login to view
and run it. Wait for a couple of minutes for it to settle down and pick up your close neighbours WiFi SSID's and check if any close ones are on your same 5G channel. I use channel 36 on mine, and see no interference.

If you don't have a manual for your router model, download one from the manufacturers site, check how to log in, and go to the settings, try changing the channel number to one that nobody else is using.

If you test it in the same room as the TV, this will give you a better picture of what the TV will being getting.

@Alcides Andrade Thanks for the useful feedback. I had read about that "problem" too, somewhere on this forum, but it is the first time I have seen it confirmed.

I assume that all your OTHER devices on your home network have been fine with the special characters?  I find it very odd, that the firmware and WiFi internal card can be written to work for a time, then drop out the 5G. Did this work for longer on the 2.4G, or were you not able to test  that?  Actually a hyphen (dash) character is not all that special, and I have seen SSID names with spaces in, that work, so it is a bit of a subtle "bug" (as it is part of a standard character set in many languages). If it had been a Tilde (~) then OK, a bit more obscure, but not impossible to code for surely?

Glad you got it working, you post may be useful to others, thanks again.

@td47 After the firmware update, only the 5Ghz network had a problem with using the hyphen. The 2Ghz network continued to function well even with a hyphen in the network name.
I really believe that it is a bug in the firmware version, however, it is possible to continue using the device normally just by making this change to the SSID of the 5Ghz network.
An easy problem to solve but difficult to discover .....

I have a mediaplayer connected to my TV OLED55C6V through HDMI. For every video playback the player tries to select an output HDMI signal format automatically depending on both video framerate/resolution and framerate/resolution supported by the connected TV to show the video as close to original as possible with the TV without any scaling. And here I have a problem: the maximum resolution the player selects is 1080p despite of the videofile has resolution 4k and the TV supports playback of the input signal up to 4K60p. I can change the output signal resolution on the player manually after blayback starting and it works, but it's not convenient. As far as I know the only way of getting information about videosignal format supported by TV for the player is EDID on HDMI channel. So is it possible to fix the issue? Maybe some hidden setting in TV could change the version of EDID?

Hi I recently updated the software to 5.30 version, and after that I noticed a weird problem with video streaming, in general issue with internet bandwidth. Usually my b/w is ~35 mbps so that is sufficient for 4k streaming on youtube or netflix. The issue is after running for 10-15 mins if I pause the video or go backward the network speed is thrashing badly. For example when I check internet connection on netflix it shows ~30-35 mbps, but whne that problem occurs and I check the speed again I see the speed is dropped to <1mbps. Same with youtube, it can't load 4k videos anymore as the speed is ~1mbps. I can realize the problem as the thumbnails load very slow with scrolling. This problem does not get away unless I restart the TV or disconnect from wifi AP and connect back. The router always works fine I mean when I observe the problem on tv I can run videos on mobile seamlessly and see a speed of ~40 mbps on the same router. The router is kept next to the TV so I don't think it is some issue with wifi distance etc. I don't know what to do. I tried resetting but it removed all my app but it was actually not a so called "factory reset". So software version remained same. To rule out hardware problem I want to revert to previous version of the software but apparently I can't downgrade the software. Is there any other approach to load some previous version firmware?

Since the latest update to the Binge app on my LG G1 OLED, whenever I try to watch any program on Binge, about every ten minutes or so the app puts up a message on screen saying that it needs to restart to recover memory, and then restarts. And when I go back to the program, the app doesn't remember how much of the program has already been viewed, and starts again from the beginning - I have to fast forward through it to get to the correct point.
None of the other streaming apps I use on the TV - Netflix, Prime Video, Stan, Apple TV - have any such problem, and if I switch to viewing using Chromecast with Google TV, which has the Android Binge app installed on it, I can stream programs from Binge without any such problem.

There's been a lot of frustration over the years since LG aquired webOS and moved it into all their TVs, specifically around software updates. After a year or so, updates are not always available, mostly due to model and hardware limitations. Now come teh 2024 webOS TVs and LG is promising to keep you updated for at least five years! That's quite a turnaround from years past..

The news is part of the recent 2024 QNED Announcement:
LG 2024 QNED TVs also elevate the home entertainment experience with versatile personalization and increased convenience. With the webOS Re:New program,* LG is offering an upgrade to the latest version of its webOS smart TV platform to give more smart TV owners the most up-to-date user experience for the next five years. This notable offer comes to LG QNED Mini LED 8K models launched in 2022 (QNED99 and QNED95 series) and will be extended to additional models in the QNED TV lineup worldwide in the future.
