Universal Control Settings : Optical : Sherwood Amp - No volume control

Question

Posted

I've had Universal Control via the smart remote sucessfully controlling the audio (volume) for my LG OLED 48C1LB tv via my Sherwood RD-6118R amp for a while now; But following a power cut, the remote no longer controls the amp/tv volume?

The audio IS still being played through the amp using the optical OUT/IN but I have no control of the volume :(

I've removed and re-initialised the settings for this amp in Universal Control Settings but following the "success" message, the remote does not control the volume on the amp/tv.

What am I missing?

You might find that the Bluetooth parts of the remote have stopped working, because the combined WiFi/Bluetooth card in the TV has failed. Storms and power-cuts and excessive static are notorious for killing sensitive electronic parts inside appliances,  because surges can short/open sensitive low voltage logic-gates.

Mine has done that, and the main controls on the remote work via the IR beam, but NOT more complex stuff like microphone/voice controls, or sound and some others.

I am lucky enough to have the "LG TV PLUS" app on my phone, that does all I need via the network. I THINK the WiFi part is still working, but I use a direct LAN comms cable to the TV, so it does NOT need WiFi anyway.

You CAN get that little internal card online (EBAY etc.), it just plugs into the main board via a small cable.

We are able to EDIT some of the functions that are in the initial SETTINGS screen.  However other functions that are layers deep into the settings are unable to be dragged/dropped into that EDIT function. Like ASPECT RATIO. To get to that feature requires a long list of clicking things. It is a function that we use a LOT in order to prevent screen burn-in on these OLED screens. (to be able to watch a channel for extended period of time that happens to have that stupid LOGO or "crawl" along the bottom. Like CNN or MSNBC).

the update to webOS 26 broke the very valuable home assistant integration!
Please fix it asap - many users rely on it!

Add the option to turn off mouse acceleration. I think I would fins it much easier to aim the pointer if I could disable it. I always disable it on computers. You can just add it next to the pointer speed setting under General > System > Additional Settings > Pointer Options

Two other settings I think would make sense to have would be a setting to disable the shake-remote-to-show-pointer feature. Although I like it I can sometimes find it annoying, so why not let the users decide. I always hate it when there aren't settings for things like these.
The other setting would be to disable the pointer completely as many users have written that they want to disable it.

In "CMP settings": there is a huge list of vendors, IAB and Google.
You can deselect consent for those.
However when you go back, in the Google consent are all still enabled.
Reject All doesn;t work. Deselecting individually and clicking "Confirm my choices" doesn't work. The Google ones are back on.
      That's really bad, GDPR.

When in an app, hitting home on the remote doesn't do anything. I was looking to see if there's a webOS update available, and now I see trying to open settings locks it all up. The only way to get out of an app right now or get it out of the state where trying settings locks it up is to power off and back on again.
      Things I've tried:
      1. Restart. I've tried various ways including unplugging and holding the power button on the TV for a while. I left it unplugged all night.
      2. Repair of the remote.
I don't know what else to try as I can't even get into settings to see if there's an update to fix this mess. Any thoughts?
