Since taking the helm as LG’s CEO at the end of 2021, William Cho has been a strong proponent of transparency, especially in nurturing relationships and open communication within the company’s workforce. This dedication to honest conversation inspired Mr. Cho to launch the ‘CEO F.U.N. Talk’ series, a forum for him to interact with LG employees on critical topics and the company’s future direction. The first CEO F.U.N. Talk of 2024, held on April 15, focused on ‘leadership,’ a vital component in the corporate sphere that merits regular discussion. Leadership was also the central theme at the first CEO F.U.N. Talk of 2023.

As LG aims to transform into a high-performance organization capable of consistent growth, CEO Cho underscores the need for employees to demonstrate “a sense of leadership.” Prior to this month’s talk, Mr. Cho conducted a survey to understand employees’ views of a high-performance organization and its implications for LG. “A high-performance organization is one that persistently pursues excellence to deliver outstanding results and promotes mutual growth between the company and its employees,” stated CEO Cho. He further explained that a passion for continuous learning, goal setting and skill development are essential.

Furthermore, to surpass competitors, LG must provide customers with unique experiences and significant value, thereby creating a unique competitive advantage. Mr. Cho highlighted how effective leadership at all levels drives high performance and successful organizational transformation. “The power of a participatory organizational culture amplifies when each member displays leadership and adheres to the A.C.E. principles,” he said.

CEO Cho’s A.C.E. principles include: ‘Aim for Clarity’ by setting measurable goals, breaking them down into stages and presenting clear results; ‘Conduct with Agility’ to quickly identify key issues and foster a productive work environment while also prioritizing tasks effectively; and ‘Excellence in Process’ – encouraging employees to actively define their roles and responsibilities, enhance collaboration with stakeholders, meticulously analyze all processes and allocate resources appropriately.

Mr. Cho also stressed the significance of the right leadership mindset. He asserted, “Strong willpower and persistence, rather than talent or intelligence, are crucial for achieving your dreams.” He added that every employee should not only lead their own change but also guide others in the broader transformation of LG into a high-performance organization.

Mr. Cho further highlighted organizational culture as a cornerstone for the company’s future growth and evolution. A positive and empowering corporate culture requires an environment where employees can enjoy their work and have the flexibility to change the way that they work to grow and reach their full potential. In line with this, ‘REINVENT LG’ encourages all LG employees to collaborate and innovate. Initially launched to foster a healthy organizational culture, REINVENT LG has extended to the company’s entire value chain and has become a catalyst for ‘high-performance’ management innovation.

Wrapping up the talk, CEO Cho outlined three focal points: ‘Product,’ encompassing business models and strategies associated with LG’s products and services; ‘Process,’ denoting the company’s operational methods; and ‘People,’ emphasizing the enhancement of employees’ skills. By focusing on these pivotal areas and applying its management and leadership principles, LG anticipates short-term improvements in sales and operating profit, and long-term enhancements in its business portfolio and corporate value.

In relation to ‘Product,’ Mr. Cho highlighted how LG is mitigating the impacts of a sluggish global economy by concentrating on its subscription business. This new business model has proven successful despite a decrease in demand in the home appliance market. Discussing ‘Process,’ he expanded on ‘Affectionate Intelligence,’ LG’s AI solution crafted from customer experience data, and explored various AI applications. In the ‘People’ segment, the CEO introduced several systematic training programs and support initiatives that LG is currently implementing.

The tenth CEO F.U.N. Talk took place at LG Twin Tower in Seoul, South Korea, and was attended by over 10,000 employees. Throughout 2024, CEO Cho plans to engage and communicate with more LG employees by extending the program to other business locations in Korea, including Changwon, Pyeongtaek and Gumi.

Have you ever wondered how many LG OLED TVs are shipped every year? 100 thousand units perhaps, maybe as much as a million? In the first half of 2023, LG recorded over 1.33 million shipments of its stunning OLED TVs, setting new benchmarks and records its competitors can only dream of.
      According to market research firm
link hidden, please login to view, LG captured over 55 percent of the global OLED TV market in the first six months based on total shipments. As a renowned OLED TV leader now celebrating 10 years of innovation in this space, LG has once again defended its premium TV crown while further cementing LG OLED TV’s status as the pinnacle of premium TVs.
The “bigger the better” trend continues to prevail in the TV market, which is great news for LG. As more and more people desire larger TVs for their living spaces, models of 75 inches or larger accounted for a remarkable 11.4 percent share of total OLED TVs sold, while shipments’ yearly average growth rate topped 90 percent over the past five years. Staying on top of this growing trend, LG is resuming its dominance in the market with an outstanding 64.2 percent share in total shipments of OLED TVs over 75 inches.
LG is targeting this new demand for large and premium TVs in the second half of 2023 with the groundbreaking TV (model 97M3) it unveiled in July, which boasts the world’s first 4K 120Hz wireless solution that makes it easy for customers to achieve their dream interior.

Not one to be confined, LG unleashed a tidal wave of 10 million TV units (OLED and LCD) on the world, which has helped the company carve out a 16.2 percent share of revenue for itself in the global TV market.
Despite facing a downturn in the global TV market, LG persisted in strengthening its inventory management and securing higher profits while actively pursuing a strategic approach for its premium and ultra-large displays. And this commitment has paid off substantially, with its LG OLED TVs now accounting for around 30 percent of the company’s overall revenue generated from TV sets.

TV shipments totaled over 92 million units in the first half of 2023, matching last year’s first half performance. The OLED TV segment, which has been led by LG for a number of years, has already passed the 2 million shipments mark this year, which bodes well for the rest of 2023.
OLED TVs are continuing their takeover of the global TV market after capturing 9.3 percent of all revenue in the first half. Meanwhile, Omdia predicts that OLED TVs are set to shine even brighter, projecting at least a 43 percent revenue share among premium TVs priced above USD 1,500.

Company Recognized for Advanced Global Testing Capabilities,
Expands Its AI-Based “LG Shield” Security System

SEOUL, Jan. 15, 2025 — LG Electronics (LG) is enhancing its cybersecurity capabilities for connected devices in response to advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) and the widespread adoption of the Internet of Things (IoT).
LG’s SW Testing Laboratory has recently obtained accreditation to perform cybersecurity testing for IoT devices from the Korea Laboratory Accreditation Scheme (KOLAS), a part of the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS).
This accreditation is globally recognized under the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation Mutual Recognition Arrangement (ILAC-MRA). Consequently, test reports issued by LG’s SW Testing Laboratory – testing compliance with the European Telecommunications Standards Institute’s (ETSI) cybersecurity standards for IoT devices (EN 303 64511 and TS 103 70122) – will carry the same weight as those issued by other accredited testing laboratories in over 100 countries, including the U.S. and Japan.
KOLAS’ IoT cybersecurity testing accreditation validates the credibility of LG’s existing testing processes. By acquiring the ability to internally test the cybersecurity of its products, LG will significantly reduce both the cost and time needed to obtain accredited test reports for its new and upcoming innovations.
As IoT and AI products become more prevalent and related security regulations are established, LG will continue to efficiently manage and rapidly respond to cybersecurity testing requirements across various global markets.
LG’s SW Testing Laboratory is the first manufacturer-run testing laboratory in South Korea to receive KOLAS’ internationally-recognized accreditation for software testing. The lab has also expanded its expertise to include home appliance software safety and automotive software safety. LG aims to leverage both its quality testing accreditation and cybersecurity testing capabilities to provide customers with reliable, high-quality products and security solutions.
Meanwhile, LG is actively pursuing Responsible Intelligence – one of the key pillars of the company’s Affectionate Intelligence – and is continuously reinforcing security measures for its AI-enabled products. LG has applied its sophisticated cybersecurity processes and solutions to provide robust digital protection for network-connected products and any shared or stored customer data.
More specifically, LG employs a comprehensive array of cybersecurity protocols throughout the product lifecycle, from initial planning and development through to post-launch usage. This approach minimizes the risk of data breaches by empowering the secure management of both sensitive personal information and user data generated during product usage.
In addition, LG is expanding the implementation of “LG Shield,” the company’s advanced AI-based security system, across its growing lineup of AI-enabled products. LG Shield proactively protects products, software platforms and user data using a variety of advanced processes, methods and technologies.
LG Shield prevents data leakage by encrypting sensitive information, including personal data, and securely storing encryption keys in segregated digital spaces. It also protects products’ operating systems by utilizing a secure server environment and real-time threat detection to prevent unauthorized access and tampering with operational code or data.
“We will continue to strengthen our cybersecurity capabilities to meet the latest global cybersecurity regulations and improve our software competitiveness,” said Park In-sung, head of the Software Center at LG Electronics.

Another unwanted update, bringing unwanted changes and now my Cambridge Audio soundbar is screwed.
My LG TV just performed an auto update to WebOS 13.30.56. When the TV restarted, all I now get out of the ARC connection is a constant loud buzzing, no programme audio. Well done LG software team. A triumph!
I have tried resetting the soundbar (it plays fine if I plug in an external device) but all I get from the LG TV is BUZZZZZZZ. I tried restarting both the TV and the Soundbar: BUZZZZZZZZZ. I tried a new HDMI cable BUZZZZZZZZ. So what do I do now?? I did not want this OS update, it brings nothing to me and everything was working perfectly before the update and sound on the (awful) inbuilt LG TV speakers is working, but the ARC audio output to my rather lovely Cambridge Audio soundbar is now, since the Web OS update, just a constant BUZZZZZZZ. I decided to try the Optical output of the LG connected to the soundbar instead. The soundbar is flashing "AUDIO ERROR" at me (I have tried all of the different audio output format options, all with the same result).
It really pi$$es me off when software teams release badly executed updates that break their customers devices. We are not your R&D test department LG, we are paying customers with whom you lose trust, brand loyalty and future sales when poor engineering teams release software updates that are not fully tested. God only knows what LG have done here but after 2 hours of trying to resolve an issue THEY caused on my setup, I have given up.
Has anyone else had this issue and have suggestions please? I have tried to contact LG using their Email Support function, wading through the multiple layers to get to the right page and spending time typing up all the details of my support request, etc, but no response yet (other than the automated bot stuff).
      Thanks.

Gardening Lifestyle Solution Brings the Beauty and Bounty of Nature Indoors

This latest personal horticultural solution combines an advanced system that encourages fast, healthy plant growth with a modern floor-standing lamp design, effortlessly stylish in any setting. Ideal for gardening novices as well as urbanites who enjoy bringing nature into their homes, this appliance makes plant cultivation a simple and satisfying experience.
Slender and upright with a circular “lampshade” and base, LG’s distinctive appliance is both an elegant interior object and a highly practical means of producing fresh home-grown greens. Despite its apartment-friendly footprint, the new model offers more growing space compared to the company’s previous indoor gardening appliances, enabling users to nurture a wider variety of plants, including taller species. Its adaptable growing space and height-adjustable LED growing lights provide considerable flexibility and the ideal conditions for raising a range of different leafy greens, herbs, flowers and fruits. Great for busy lifestyles, LG’s new solution supports continuous growing cycles and features a large, 1.5-gallon-capacity water tank that delivers more hydration between refills.*

This dual lighting design elevates the value and utility of LG’s latest gardening appliance while also highlighting the company’s unique ability to develop versatile “hybrid” solutions that deliver the benefits of multiple products.
With a twenty-plant, four-seed-kit capacity, the new indoor gardening appliance automatically dispenses the right amount of water and nutrients for the number and variety of plants being grown. This advanced system ensures consistent care, even when users are away for extended periods, as long as a week. In addition, compatibility with the LG ThinQ app allows users to manage cultivation schedules, adjust lighting settings and monitor plant growth from any location.
Along with the “floor-standing lamp” model, LG will reveal a new indoor gardening appliance featuring a nature-inspired side table design at CES 2025. This compact, multifunctional model provides an easy, enjoyable home gardening experience and demonstrates LG’s continuing commitment to providing compelling choices for various tastes and lifestyles.
