Under an overarching vision that sees entire societies working together to achieve a better life for all, LG promotes initiatives carefully designed to bring long-lasting benefits to various local communities. (From left to right) Ms. Nguyen Thi Yen, Northern Program Manager of Habitat for Humanity Vietnam; Mr. Bui Van Hoang, Vice Chairman of Quyet Thang Commune People’s Committee; Ms. Bui Thi Ngoi, Chairwoman of Lac Son District Women’s Union; Mr. Sung Woo Nam, Managing Director of LG Electronics Vietnam; Ms. Bui Thi Chien and family; Mr. Chu Hoang Vu, Corporate Marketing of LG Electronics Vietnam With a deep respect for understanding the local culture and its valued traditions, LG in Vietnam partnered with Habitat for Humanity (HFH) Vietnam in 2020 to establish its ongoing Life’s Good: Hope Village project in the county and bring long-overdue positive change to its incredible Muong population. Native to northern Vietnam, the Muong people are one of the country’s most disadvantaged ethnic minorities who live in seriously underdeveloped housing while being held back by poor infrastructure. So, by promoting economic development as well as equality in home ownership for Muong households, LG is taking what it deems the most effective approach to nurturing these people in desperate need while laying a sustainable foundation for future generations. It all started in 2020 in the highlands of Quyet Thang – located in the Lac Son district of Hoa Binh province – and by the end of 2021, LG can confirm that more than 11,000 people residing here have received support in the form of housing upgrades, household appliance donations or training on the topics of gender equality and financial management. Continuing in 2022, the project will focus on improving local facilities such as building new community toilets, repairing houses and donating books to the local library. Training sessions are also being organized to educate on natural disaster responses for nearly 16,500 residents. This project hopes to support the construction of new houses and toilets for more than 20 households living in extremely difficult circumstances. At the project’s opening ceremony, LG announced the first round of donated household appliances including washing machines, refrigerators and air conditioners worth a total of approximately USD 13,000. The representatives of local authorities, LG and HFH Vietnam in attendance also paid a visit to Muong houses to get a better idea of their living conditions and learn how the project would improve their daily lives. “All thanks to LG and Habitat for Humanity, after all these years, my dream of living in a house I can feel safe in is finally coming true,” said Bui Thi Luc, a 57-year-old Muong resident whose home is being rebuilt through the Hope Village project. For 26 years and counting, LG Vietnam has put great importance on social contribution activities that inspire sustainable growth in the region. And with its unwavering belief that everyone deserves to feel that ‘Life’s Good,’ LG will continue to support initiatives designed to improve not only the lives of Vietnamese people, but everyone around the world, from all walks of life. Superb Gaming Monitors Boast the High Refresh Rates, Fast Response Times and Low Latency, Meeting Demands of Today’s Gamers and VESA’s New Display Standard SEOUL, May 23, 2022 — LG Electronics’ (LG) UltraGear gaming monitors (models 27GP950 and 27GP850) are the first in the world to earn VESA® AdaptiveSync Display certification, launched by the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA). The new VESA® AdaptiveSync Display logo helps consumers to easily identify and compare the variable refresh rate (VRR) performance of gaming displays supporting VESA’s Adaptive-Sync protocol before they buy. To be certified as the VESA AdaptiveSync Display, LG’s elite gaming monitors had to meet the exhaustive and rigorous requirements of the VESA Adaptive-Sync Display Compliance Test Specification (Adaptive-Sync Display CTS), which uses more than 50 test criteria to establish clear benchmarks for assessing monitors’ and laptops’ VRR capabilities. With high refresh rates, fast Gray-to-Gray (GTG) response times and low latency, the two UltraGear gaming monitors met or exceeded the test scores specified in VESA’s new open standard. LG’s AdaptiveSync Display-certified monitors, LG UltraGear 27GP950 and 27GP850, provide the level of visual performance needed for seamless gaming experiences. Both models met required scores across VESA’s Adaptive-Sync Display CTS, including in several key measurements such as refresh rate, screen-flicker and response time. The two 27-inch gaming monitors feature advanced LG Nano IPS panels offering high refresh rates and a 1 millisecond GTG response time, allowing fluid gaming play and sharp, clean images for both PC and console games. “The VESA Adaptive-Sync Display CTS creates a clear, consistent standard for display performance of gaming monitors and helps consumers to make informed purchasing decisions,” said Jim Choate, compliance program manager at VESA. “World’s first products to wear the new AdaptiveSync Display logo, LG’s UltraGear gaming monitors performed remarkably well in all applicable tests.” “We are proud the LG UltraGear became the first-ever monitors to receive VESA AdaptiveSync Display certification” said Seo Young-jae, senior vice president and head of the IT business unit of LG Electronics Business Solutions Company. “With upcoming 2022 models including UltraGear 27GP95R, we will not only meet the high standards of VESA’s performance tests, but also satisfy the expectations and diverse needs of today’s consumers.” # # # View the full article

Designed with serious movie lovers in mind, LG’s latest flagship home cinema solution can produce a stunningly sharp 90-inch image when placed just 5.6 centimeters from the wall or a massive 120-inch picture at a distance of only 18.3 centimeters.1 Thanks to the HU915QE’s combination of advanced projection technology, users no longer need a large, dedicated space to enjoy sublime cinematic experiences at home. Boasting 3,700 ANSI lumens and an impressive 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio, LG’s latest projector delivers vibrant, realistic pictures that ensure maximum viewing immersion. By adopting LG’s evolved, three-channel laser technology, which employs a separate light source for each primary (RGB) color, this new model is able to offer more vivid images even during the day compared to other conventional products with the single light source technology.2 An excellent all-rounder, the HU915QE really excels when playing movies and streaming content in 4K HDR, using HDR Dynamic Tone Mapping to analyze and adjust image brightness every single frame. LG’s Brightness Optimizer II further elevates the new CineBeam projector’s performance, automatically adjusting brightness levels according to ambient light conditions so that users can enjoy clear, vivid picture quality whether the room is well lit or as dark as a movie theater. Additionally, Adaptive Contrast adjusts the projector’s light sources to provide a superb contrast for each individual scene. With LG’s intuitive webOS smart platform onboard, the HU915QE lets users watch all their favorite shows from streaming services3 such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, YouTube and Apple TV without an additional device. They can also wirelessly stream content via Screen Mirroring, Apple AirPlay 2 and Bluetooth.4 On top of that, its built-in 2.2 Channel, 40W speaker system enhances the viewing experience with strong, rich audio. For more powerful, theater-like surround sound, users can effortlessly connect up to two LG Bluetooth speakers at once.5 The new CineBeam projector also makes a stylish addition to any room with its eco-friendly ‘Re-wool’ designed by renowned Danish textile company, Kvadrat. Made from 45 percent recycled wool, this material has become a favorite of design- and sustainability-conscious companies worldwide, used in products as diverse as furniture and premium audio solutions. Thanks to its muted, natural color and clean design, the HU915QE blends in well with luxurious home interiors. “Featuring LG’s latest projection technologies, the new CineBeam projector delivers outstanding 4K picture quality from a short distance,” said Seo Young-jae, senior vice president and head of the IT business unit of LG Electronics Business Solutions Company. “An excellent choice for movie lovers seeking authentically cinematic experiences at home, the HU915QE combines superb performance with convenient features, easy installation and a sophisticated, space-friendly design.” LG CineBeam 4K laser projector (model HU915QE) with the latest UST technology will be available in the first half of 2022, starting with key markets in North America, Europe and the Middle East, with Latin America and Asia markets to follow. Innovation leads to new creations, new experiences and, sometimes, new ways of looking at the world. Encompassing all of these outcomes is the generative art of envelope-pushing artist and NFT pioneer, Kevin McCoy, who is presenting new works at the Frieze New York 2022 art fair in Manhattan from May 18-22. His ever-evolving works, which autonomously grow and change through the use of algorithms and other advanced tech, have found the perfect digital canvas in the form of the latest OLED TVs from the lifestyle innovator, LG. McCoy’s thought-provoking and visually-stunning new pieces are on show at the ‘LG OLED Lounge,’ located on level eight of Frieze New York’s official venue, The Shed. A selection of his groundbreaking works are displayed on state-of-the-art LG OLED TVs, including new LG OLED evo models, which use millions of self-lit pixels to deliver the deepest blacks, incredibly natural colors and an infinite contrast ratio. The centerpiece of the exhibit, Quantum Leap: Primordial Star 3 (2022), is an NFT, or non-fungible token, co-created by McCoy and his wife, Jennifer. Inspired by Kevin McCoy’s 2014 work Quantum – which was the first artwork ever to be tokenized on a blockchain – Quantum Leap: Primordial Star 3 employs code-based, interacting systems that produce mandalas that change form and color as they ‘age,’ echoing the lifespan of stars. Displayed alongside Primordial Star 3 in the LG OLED Lounge are Quantum Leap 3: Dark Star (2022) and Quantum Entanglement (2022), both also created by the celebrated husband-and-wife duo. The ‘star’ in Dark Star slowly loses its color over the course of its life before being reborn with a new central shape and vivid palette, generated autonomously via programming. Quantum Entanglement is a hybrid of drawings and NFTs that explores the nature of drawing, which is at once a performative act and a physical document that recalls or points to the existence of that act. Featuring physical drawings and digital animations made using software and a robotic drawing machine, Quantum Entanglement fuses physical with virtual elements in a way that is sure to delight and intrigue audiences. The shifting colors and forms of McCoy’s new works at Frieze New York are expressed with precision and vibrancy thanks to the next-generation display and processing technologies of LG OLED evo. LG’s new OLED evo Gallery Edition TVs offer higher brightness, clarity and detail for lifelike images that almost jump off the screen – with the 77- and 65-inch models used at the exhibit proving themselves as adept at showcasing digital art as they are at delivering outstanding viewing experiences. Complementing LG OLED evo TV models, the LG OLED Lounge at Frieze New York also features the 55-inch Transparent OLED signage displays. Boasting vivid colors and high transparency, the advanced screen presents digital artists like McCoy with exciting, new creative opportunities to explore. What’s more, McCoy’s artwork is demonstrated on a LG OLED Objet Collection, an artistically inspired and distinctive lifestyle TV model. LG was named Global Partner of the Frieze art fair, and this exhibit in New York exemplifies LG’s commitment to innovation within the arts and supporting artists to push their creative boundaries. # # # View the full article

A long-standing commitment to bettering people’s lives – regardless of their age, understanding of technology or any physical challenges they may face – serves as the foundation for LG’s consumer innovations. LG continues to work hard to maximize the usability of its advanced home appliances, consulting with diverse users and leveraging its tech and design knowhow to ensure that all of its solutions are as accessible as possible. Global Accessibility Awareness Day, which is held every year on the third Thursday of May, is an excellent opportunity to learn more about the importance of ‘inclusive technology’ and the positive difference it can make in the lives of people with disabilities and impairments. As May 19 approaches, let’s take a look at some of the innovative ways that LG is fostering greater accessibility and allowing all consumers, no matter their circumstances, to experience the full convenience and value of its cutting-edge products. Home Entertainment for Everyone LG believes that everyone should be able to enjoy first-class home entertainment and has developed assistive technologies to lower any barriers that may get in the way. The company’s diverse lineup of TVs now carries a variety of accessibility features, including audio guides for those with visual impairments and closed-captioning for those with hearing impairments, as well as simplified control (including voice command support) via the Magic Remote to make the whole experience easier – from adjusting the volume to accessing content services. Removing Barriers from Household Chores While some LG solutions offer customized assistance for users with certain disadvantages, others offer elevated convenience that can benefit everyone. One such product is the LG SideKick Pedestal Washer, a mini-washing machine designed to sit discretely below an LG front-load washer. The SideKick is ideal for small loads that need frequent washing, such as workout gear, and makes it possible to clean two loads of laundry at once. And because it raises the height of the main washer, it makes the task of loading and unloading laundry from the front-loader less taxing for most users. Diverse Voices Guiding Way to ‘Barrier-Free’ Solutions To develop home appliances that are accessible to the widest range of users, LG proactively seeks input from its customers and consults with experts in the field of disability inclusion. Since 2013, LGE US has been operating the LG Accessibility Advisory Board, which is made up of accessibility specialists, disability organizations and law firms. Through annual meetings and in-depth discussions, the council is helping LG to create barrier-free solutions that will enable more people to take advantage of all that its latest tech has to offer. At the same time, in South Korea, LG last year established an accessibility council consisting of accessibility experts and advisory group of disabled people. LG and the council’s experts are working together to formulate a measurement standard that will evaluate the accessibility of the company’s home appliances. The accessibility indicator will initially be used to assess the accessibility of LG TVs, washers, air conditioners and air purifiers, with other product categories to follow soon afterward. The advisory group of disabled people will actively join the creation of the measurement standard by directly experiencing and giving feedback on LG products under development. With its comprehensive, considered approach to addressing the needs of all users, LG is helping to bring greater inclusivity to the consumer tech space, presenting thoughtful innovations that make daily life easier for everyone. # # # View the full article

Ranging from Transparent OLED Signage, Micro LED to full lineups of LED signage products, LG will be showcasing its latest business offerings which combine digital signage solutions with useful application tools to elevate post-pandemic communications and move us a step closer to life without limits. LG UltraFine OLED Pro can be used in post-production companies as well as OTT companies when screening. LG is also exhibiting several innovations centered around mission critical environments. Fine-pitch LED’s high definition and bezel-less design displays every fine detail clearly, while the bezel-less 54-inch LED Bloc allows customers to use it like a 55-inch LCD video wall display with easy installation – it even fits the brackets of existing LCD video wall models.* These features have made them useful in corporate control rooms, auditoriums and virtual classrooms. In retail, LG’s Content Management Solution, SuperSign QSR, delivers customers a dynamic menu board while behind the scenes it streamlines the kitchen display system and integrates with the PoS system. Another featured product for outdoor customer interactions is the 21.5-inch high brightness touch display. Whether it’s at a drive-thru kiosk, gas pump or EV charger, this durable signage is useful as it stands up to harsh weather conditions and dust with a brightness that makes information easy to read. Amidst all the cross-sector synergy, LG is also presenting cloud solutions specifically designed for specific industries or use cases. For example, Pro:Centric Cloud has been engineered to transform hospitality management by taking Pro:Centric, LG’s flexible and intuitive content management system for hospitality, and expanding it across multiple properties via cloud-based architecture. Now, hotels can offer personalized services, maintain consistent imaging and collect behavioral data across multiple branches, all centralized in one place. “At this year’s ISE, we are excited to demonstrate the life-enhancing solutions that have been developed to change people’s lives for the better. Our sharp and seamless imagery stands out, especially in a crowded setting like this, and what’s more our vertical solutions are creating new possibilities,” said Paik Ki-mun, senior vice president and head of the Information Display business unit of LG Electronics Business Solutions Company. “We’re finding new ways to make it easier to make a positive impact, no matter the field.” These revolutionary business solutions will be on display in Hall 3 of Fira Barcelona’s Gran Via from May 10-13. Some things just go together. Like bagels and cream cheese, or a warm summer’s evening and a chilled glass of wine. Another perfect pairing is LG SIGNATURE and award-winning artist, John Legend. The premium brand and its world-famous ambassador recently teamed up for a memorable night complete with a special guest list and the unveiling of a special, limited-edition wine from Legend’s own LVE label. The invite-only occasion, themed Timeless Moments with Loved Ones, took place on May 3 at Wappo Hill, the sprawling and elegantly-appointed private residence of Jean-Charles Boisset, the celebrated vintner and co-founder of LVE. Among the evening’s special guests were international style authority, Olivia Palermo, and noted wine critic James Suckling, both of whom also serve as LG SIGNATURE global brand ambassadors. Other VIP attendees included LG SIGNATURE premium customers, retail partners and local and international wine reviewers. To set the scene, Legend and Boisset were joined by an LG SIGNATURE representative to share the story of the exclusive wine – from the original idea for their collaboration to an inviting description of the full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon’s rich, complex flavors. Guests were then treated to a private concert from Legend himself, with the GRAMMY Award-winning artist performing fan-favorites including “All of Me,” and giving a soulful rendition of “You Deserve It All,” the song he penned for LG SIGNATURE in 2021. Legend then turned the proceedings over to James Suckling, who hosted a special session on wine preservation, offering practical tips and outlining the impressive features and benefits of the LG SIGNATURE Wine Cellar. And, to finish things off with a flourish, Boisset’s head chef Rafael Molina served up a gourmet three-course meal, which was artfully paired with LVE’s delectable wines. The limited-edition Legend X SIGNATURE wine is a 2018-vintage cabernet sauvignon crafted at Napa Valley’s renowned Raymond Vineyards. As one of the finest Cabernet Sauvignons, this wine was carefully selected and produced by Stephanie Putnam, director of winemaking at Raymond Vineyards. A delight to drink, the wine has a full, well-rounded flavor profile that owes much to 2018’s superb growing season. Offering the precise temperature- and humidity-controlled conditions needed for optimal preservation, the LG SIGNATURE Wine Cellar is the ideal home solution for keeping wines of all types at their best. Complementing the Legend X SIGNATURE wine’s superb taste is a simple label design and sophisticated black bottle that speak to the timeless quality and premium nature of LG’s luxury brand. The bottle echoes the look and feel of the minimal Black Diamond Glass used for the LG SIGNATURE Refrigerator, while the premium Textured Steel Finish of the LG SIGNATURE Wine Cellar is expressed through the silver font etched into the label. Only 300 bottles of the LVE cabernet sauvignon have been produced, with 50 served at the Wappo Hill event and the remainder set aside for customers purchasing an LG SIGNATURE Wine Cellar. Regarding the exclusive evening of wine, food and music, Legend noted, “It was a pleasure to celebrate our limited-edition wine with music in such an intimate environment for people to truly experience the magic of LG SIGNATURE and LVE.” The perfect pairing of LG SIGNATURE and John Legend will be back with more exciting collaborations in the future – and you can learn all about them right here on Beyond News. # # # View the full article

Recognized for ‘Sustained Excellence’ in Environmental Sustainability, LG Also Wins EPA’s Emerging Technology Award SEOUL, May 5, 2022 – LG Electronics (LG) has been named 2022 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year-Sustained Excellence by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This prestigious honor, a distinction LG has received nine times since 2012, recognizes the company’s exemplary commitment to protecting the environment through leadership in ENERGY STAR certified products and promotions. In addition to the Partner of the Year Award, LG received the ENERGY STAR Emerging Technology Award last month with the EPA honoring 43 LG refrigerator-freezer models, more than any other brand. The award-winning models feature advanced adaptive compressors and use R-600a, a refrigerant with very low global-warming potential (GWP). Refrigerators that earn this environmental distinction outperform the federal minimum standard by at least 25 percent when the compressor is in adaptive mode compared to when the compressor is in a fixed-speed mode. Recognized products also contain low GWP (below 15) refrigerant and foam. Inverter Linear Compressor* found in LG’s refrigerator lineups efficiently keep food fresh longer and noise levels lower compared to LG’s conventional models. Each year, the ENERGY STAR program honors a group of businesses and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to protecting the environment through superior energy achievements. ENERGY STAR award winners lead their industries in the production, sale and adoption of energy-efficient products, homes, buildings, services and strategies. These efforts are essential to fighting the climate crisis and protecting public health. Under its Zero Negative Environmental Impact initiative, LG plans to establish more production sites that make a positive impact on the environment. To ensure that the company reaches its stretch goals for carbon neutrality and circular economy, LG announced its intention to reduce the use of petrochemical-based plastics by introducing up to 600,000 tons of recycled plastic into its manufacturing process by 2030 and nearly double the recovery of electronic waste to 8 million tons by then. LG is demonstrating what it takes to build a more sustainable future, according to EPA Administrator Michael S. Regan. “They are showing once again that taking action in support of a clean energy economy can be good not only for the environment, but also for business and customers. We know it’s going to take all of us working together to tackle the climate crisis,” he said. * Tested by VDE by comparing energy consumption between LG model GBB530NSCXE (LG Inverter Linear Compressor) and GBB530NSQWB (LG conventional reciprocating compressor). With the health of the environment arguably one of the most pressing concerns in the world today, it is a good time to take stock, reflect and give serious thought to how we can all do our part to create a more sustainable future. In the consumer electronics industry, LG continues to show its commitment to protecting the planet and delivering a better life for all by reducing the environmental impact of its innovations at every stage of the product lifecycle. The latest home entertainment solutions from LG serve as fine examples of the company’s efforts to provide maximum user convenience at minimal cost to the Earth. Emblematic of this goal, LG OLED TVs deliver stunning viewing experiences while using a smaller number of components and offering greater recyclability than their LCD counterparts. LG’s self-emissive displays don’t require a backlight like LCD TVs, and because they have fewer parts overall, there is less to recycle and dispose of. For example, the 65-inch LG OLED evo C2 model uses just 40 percent of the plastic of its LCD TV equivalent (model 65UQ80). The eco-conscious qualities of LG’s 2022 OLED TVs have been recognized by one of the world’s foremost providers of testing, inspection and certification services, attaining Société Générale de Surveillance SA (SGS) Eco-Product recognition.1 The select 2022 LG OLED evo TVs will display the Carbon Trust’s product carbon footprint label for reducing CO2 throughout the entire product lifecycle.2 Moreover, they also achieved validation to the UL 2809 Environmental Claim Validation Procedure (ECVP) for Recycled Content Standard from global safety science leader, UL, which confirms these products are indeed as environmentally responsible as advertised.3 For its 2022 OLED TVs4, LG has adopted the use of a new composite fiber material that helps reduce product weight. Additionally, the packaging used for the latest LG OLED TVs is made for recyclable materials and features single-color printing to further save on energy and resources. The LG Soundbar lineup also reveals the company’s dedication to environmentally-conscious design. Its sophisticated audio solutions utilize reused and easily recyclable materials, consume only a small amount of power when in use and ship in sustainable packaging. And to top it off, every 2022 LG Soundbar model has received SGS Eco-Product certification in recognition of their environmental impact. Furthermore, this year’s soundbars are comprised of parts that have been fabricated from recycled plastic resin. The amount of recycled material used in LG’s new soundbars has been confirmed by UL’s ECVP for Recycled Content Standard and many of LG’s 2022 soundbars also feature a polyester jersey fabric that meets the Global Recycled Standard (GRS).5 What’s more, 2022 LG Soundbars are ENERGY STAR® certified thanks to their efficient use of power. By considering the impact our actions have on the environment, and finding better, more sustainable ways to get things done, we can all help to bring about positive change. As a leader in home entertainment innovation, LG will continue to do its part to protect the planet and pave the way to a brighter tomorrow. # # # 1 The 2022 LG OLED Z2, G2, C2, B2 and A2 Series received SGS Eco-Product certification. 2 LG OLED evo 65-inch G2 and C2 models achieved the Carbon Trust’s Reducing CO2 label, while the 55-, 77- and 83-inch G2 models as well as the 42-, 48-, 55-, 77- and 83-inch C2 models received its Measured CO2 label. In its mission to make the world a better place to live for everyone, LG Electronics will forever champion the importance of social contribution and doing more as a company to help those that can’t help themselves. LG Electronics East Africa Managing Director Sa Nyoung Kim with HFH managers and students at the Mbombo Primary School construction site. LG East Africa has been actively carrying out diverse social initiatives to help improve education, environment and health standards in the region over the last few years and has already made a lasting impact on thousands of locals. This year, LG East Africa partnered again with Habitat for Humanity (HFH) Kenya for its second CSR project to support more than 25,000 Kenyans in Laikipia County. LG Electronics East Africa Managing Director Sa Nyoung Kim lays a stone to commence construction of ablution blocks at Mbombo Primary School, with HFH Senior Program Manager Nixon Otieno and Mbombo Primary School Headteacher Mwangi Thumbi looking on. Early this January, LG in partnership with HFH Kenya launched several social initiatives valued at around USD 90,000 (KES 10.3 million) to benefit more than 3,000 primary and secondary school students and the 22,000 residents receiving supplies from the Olmoran and Maundu Meri Dispensaries every year. At least two dispensaries and seven schools within Mbombo and Rumuruti will see positive changes from these initiatives. Many children and teachers at these schools have limited access to clean, safe water and must make regular trips to far-away dams. To make matters worse, school infrastructure is severely lacking with classrooms, which are mostly made from mud and old iron roof sheets, lacking doors, windows and proper sanitation. Ongoing construction at Mbombo Primary School. To make life better for the children, LG aims to directly resolve the challenges facing these vibrant communities. The company is building new classrooms and toilet facilities and furnishing them with proper school desks, tables and equipment, with construction expected to be completed by June. Over 20 LG products including refrigerators, washers, water purifiers, air conditioners, TVs and microwaves have been donated so far. This initiative is a continuation of LG Electronics’ continued partnership with HFH, first partnering with the Korean branch in 2020 to launch the LG Come Home Challenge, inviting fans to create short videos on how much they love their home. In return, LG made generous donations and gifted appliances to newly built homes in Kenya, Vietnam and India. Also, as part of its 2021 LG Healthy Home Solutions Campaign, LG let fans of Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Fortnite virtually experience healthy home solutions and make donations to HFH Korea – courtesy of LG – by simply posting screenshots on their socials. Laikipia becomes the second Kenyan county to benefit from LG’s work with HFH, following the company’s first successful initiative in 2021 which improved learning facilities at several schools including the Machakos School for the Deaf. Stay tuned to hear what else LG has planned to help support local communities around the world in need of a helping hand! Contributed by LG Kenya # # # View the full article

Much as a lighthouse guides ships into harbor at night, a Lighthouse Factory serves as a beacon for global manufacturing, shining a light on the future of production through the adoption of Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) technologies. Earlier this year, LG Electronics (LG) joined the World Economic Forum’s Global Lighthouse Network when its facility in Changwon, South Korea – named LG Smart Park – was selected as a Lighthouse Factory. In 2017, LG began transforming its Changwon plant, which had long been the center of the company’s global home appliance manufacturing network, into a ‘next-gen’ production hub. By automating core processes with advanced AI and big data, LG’s state-of-the-art facility has achieved greater all-around efficiency and is better able to respond to the diverse and ever-changing needs of today’s consumers. Let’s take a look at major innovations that helped earn LG Smart Park its Lighthouse Factory designation. Innovation #1. Optimized Production Logistics with ‘Digital Twin’ Technology One of the key factors in the successful digital transformation of LG Smart Park is LG’s unique Digital Twin technology. Recreating the production line in virtual reality, it can simulate various production scenarios and take preemptive action to keep everything in the real factory running as smoothly as possible. LG’s Digital Twin analyzes production data every 30 seconds, enabling it to accurately identify any issues that are likely to occur within the next 10 minutes. If a problem is discovered, it notifies workers so that they can take appropriate action to avert potential disruptions to the schedule. With this exceptional technology, LG can ensure the dependable, on-time supply of parts and materials for each appliance model being fabricated on the facility’s mixed production lines. Innovation #2. Automated, Three-dimensional Logistics System The three-dimensional logistics system employed at LG Smart Park uses factory space more efficiently than the conventional logistics setup used at the Changwon plant.1 The system takes advantage of the space above the factory floor with a vast, overhead conveyor system that works in unison with ground-based, 5G-enabled automated guided vehicles (AGVs) to quickly transport parts and materials to wherever they are needed. “Logistics is like the blood vessels in the human body,” said Kang Myeung-souk, task leader of Kitchen Appliance Production Advancement Task. “To make the ‘blood’ flow well, we designed and built an organic communications network for our complex logistic system complete with AGVs leveraging high-speed 5G.” Innovation #3. Advanced Analytics System based on Edge Computing Technology and Machine Learning Equipped with an advanced AI platform, the Plug-in for Intelligent Equipment (PIE) executes ‘predictive maintenance’ on factory facilities. Through real-time monitoring and data analysis underpinned by deep learning, LG’s PIE has reduced material loss during the vacuum-forming process by as much as 80 percent. Additionally, the Machine-learning based Vision Inspection system, MAVIN Cloud provides a significant boost to quality control and inspection speed, saving time and ensuring that every product made at the factory meets LG’s exacting standards.2 By establishing its own AI platforms, LG has made the work of production technicians at LG Smart Park much easier without assistance of AI expertise on site. “The automation of these important processes has helped us improve overall quality and given our workers more time to focus on other key areas of production,” said Park Se-hee, specialist at Refrigerator Manufacturing Unit. Innovation #4. Safer, Faster Production through Intelligent Automation The application of intelligent automation to LG Smart Park’s manufacturing system has made the entire production process safer and far more efficient. Robots leveraging advanced AI, big data and onboard cameras now perform the difficult and dangerous tasks including high-frequency welding, which involves high heat and can potentially generate harmful chemicals. Using 3D vision recognition technology, robots also perform the refrigerator door attachment process; a heavy and demanding task that still requires a high-degree of delicacy and precision. “There is only a 0.5mm tolerance when attaching the door to the refrigerator body, but our advanced robots are up to the task,” said Byun Hyo-sik, Vice President and head of Kitchen Appliance Production Division. “Based on an extremely complex algorithm, this efficient system has greatly reduced errors and sped up our overall production rate.” “Automating the attachment of refrigerator doors – which can weigh between 20 to 22 kilograms – has significantly increased quality while saving our workers from having to perform a taxing, repetitive job,” added Kang Myeung-souk, task leader for the Kitchen Appliance Production Advancement Task. LG Smart Park: Better Life for All. Through the adoption of impressive innovations, LG Smart Park has achieved a 17 percent increase in productivity3 and a 70 percent drop in the cost of defective-product returns.4 Moreover, the factory has already started contributing to the company’s global sustainability efforts, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and boosting energy efficiency per unit produced by 30 percent compared to the LG’s previous Changwon plant.5 It is also helping the local economy via the creation of new jobs. LG will continue to accelerate the digital transformation of its global manufacturing network by bringing the smart, innovative production technologies pioneered at its Smart Park in Changwon to 26 LG production facilities in 13 countries. Water is one of the most precious natural resources. Without it, life on Earth would simply cease to exist. Although it is true that 71 percent of the world is covered by water, only three percent of that is fresh water1 which is why we must do better to conserve what we have. And, as we celebrate Earth Day today, now is the ideal time to invest in our planet and commit to managing our water more sustainably. Home is always a good place to start looking for ways to make a difference. Even small changes to one’s daily habits, such as taking shorter showers, can help out – especially if everyone in the house gets on the same page. Another excellent way to cut water usage at home is by investing in water-efficient appliances, such as those from LG. Clean Clothes and Intelligent Water-Savings Despite getting clothes clean, some washing machines consume an excessive amount of water. This, however, can be solved by LG washers featuring the Artificial Intelligence Direct Drive (AI DD), which suggest the optimal wash cycle for each load by detecting the weight and fabric softness of clothing.2 They also employ LG’s own TurboWash 360 technology, which uses a 3D ‘multi-nozzle’ that sprays water in four different directions simultaneously. The result is clean clothes, shorter cycle lengths and less water usage without any sacrifice to washing performance whatsoever.3 Additionally, LG’s latest washers come with ezDispense, a clever feature that automatically dispenses the optimal amount of detergent needed for the load being washed. It boosts washing efficiency by reducing the number of rinses needed per-cycle. ENERGY STAR-labelled products that help consumers save money while helping the planet, the company’s latest washers use 25 percent less energy and 33 percent less water than conventional models.4 Sparkling Clean Dishes, Lower Water Consumption As well as providing greater convenience in the kitchen, a dishwasher can also deliver efficient water usage.5 Through precise control of water circulation and spray intensity, ENERGY STAR-certified dishwashers cost only USD 35 per-year to run and save on average 3,870 gallons of water over their lifetime.6 Much like the company’s washing machines, the LG dishwasher uses less water without compromising cleaning performance. LG’s QuadWash technology has Multi-Motion spray arms that rotate back and forth to separate food and oil from dishware, while TrueSteam helps to reduce the occurrence of water spots, leaving dishware sparkling clean.7 The Right Amount of Water for Clean Floors Designed to make mopping easier and less water intensive than taking to the floor with a mop and bucket, the LG CordZeroA9 Kompressor stick vacuum cleaner with Power Mop is ideal for keeping hard-floor surfaces clean. The Power Mop attachment has an efficient, automatic water supply system that ensures the two rapidly-rotating mop pads have just the right amount of water to clean with. The LG CordZero M9 robotic vacuum cleaner, which also has a mop function, is likewise equipped with the company’s advanced, automatic water supply system. To prevent unnecessary water usage, the water supply system shuts off when the CordZero M9 has finished its mopping. Water gives us life, and in return, we must do all that we can to manage it more sustainably. Through being mindful of our daily habits, and choosing appliances that use less water, each of us can do our part to conserve the Earth’s most precious of resources and help bring about a better future for all. # # # 1 https://www.usbr.gov/mp/arwec/water-facts-ww-water-sup.html 2 Average water consumption reduced by approximately by 10.6 percent with AI DD when tested by Intertek in April 2020 on Cotton cycle with load comprising 3kg of underwear in conventional LG washer model F21VDT and LG AI DD washer model W16SK. Results may differ depending on product models and actual usage environment. 3 Tested by Intertek in April 2020 on Normal cycle with TurboWash 360(TURBOSHOT) activated with load comprising 3kg of laundry. LG TurboWash 360 model W16SK uses approximately 36 percent less water and shortens cycle length by 46 percent compared to the same model with same load size set to Normal cycle without TurboWash 360(TURBOSHOT) selected. The product models and results may differ depending on regions and actual usage environment. 4 https://www.energystar.gov/products/clothes_washers 5 “A European Comparison of Cleaning Dishes by Hand.” University of Bonn, 2007. 6 https://www.energystar.gov/products/dishwashers 7 Tested by LG internal lab on Normal Cycle with clear cup of glass in LG non-Steam model DFB415 and LG Steam model (DFB325), according to LG internal test methods. With Earth Day just around the corner, what better time to get serious about going green? Taking the first steps doesn’t have to be difficult as today’s smart home tech can help kickstart your journey to sustainability by providing an effortless way to shrink household energy and water use. LG’s smart home platform, LG ThinQ, introduces a variety of new, eco-responsible features that deliver maximum convenience while putting you further along the path to greener living. Here’s a look at how the latest smart technologies from LG can help transform the home into a place where ‘Earth Day is every day.’ Energy Saving Made Simple Saving energy at home is much simpler with the LG ThinQ app and its smart sustainability features, which allow users to effortlessly optimize the energy efficiency of their appliances. The app even takes usage patterns into consideration – for instance, it can adjust the refrigerator’s power consumption to the lowest level during nighttime hours, when family members or roommates are far less likely to be opening and shutting the fridge door in search of ingredients or snacks. One unexpected perk is that you’ll be able to see exactly how much energy you’re saving with these energy-efficient activities as well. With the ThinQ app by your side, you’ll gain insight into the monthly usage insights of your household gadgets. Remote control and monitoring features also help to cut unnecessary electricity use. Let’s say, for example, that the front door has been locked and everyone has set off for a much-needed vacation, but one of the appliances has accidentally been left on. With the LG ThinQ app, that’s not a problem. From any location, simply pull out your smartphone, check the status of each appliance,1 then turn off whichever one is still running. With that done, there’s nothing left to do but get down to the serious business of R & R. Handy Notification for Preventing Waste Beyond reducing how much energy is used at home, how else can we be more sustainable in our daily lives? The LG ThinQ app provides some well thought-out answers with features such as the food expiration date alert. Letting users know when fresh food stored in their fridge is getting close to expiring, these useful alerts can help prevent perfectly good food from going to waste – which is simultaneously good for the planet and household grocery spending. All you need do is register the expiration date of each food item when putting them in the refrigerator. And if you still haven’t gotten around to using a particular ingredient by the time its best-by date is imminent, the app will conveniently remind you with a handy smartphone notification. Moving from the kitchen to the laundry room, the LG ThinQ app offers a clever cycle-recommendation feature that ensures clean clothes without any waste of water or detergent. After LG’s smart washer – with the help of the company’s AI DD technology – has determined fabric-type and load-weight, the app suggests the optimal cycle for the job: one that uses only what is needed to deliver the best results for your laundry, and for the environment. Extending the Lifespan of Home Appliances Keeping appliances in top working order is always a good idea as it will help to extend their lifespan and save you money. Not only does this worthwhile endeavor lead to fewer big-ticket purchases for the home over the long run, it can also potentially save you money every month by helping to prevent excessive power consumption during regular operation. Another plus to taking good care of your appliances it that it puts less strain on the world’s recycling plants, which play an important role in preserving the Earth’s finite resources. Designed to support users in maintaining their LG home appliances, the ThinQ app’s Smart Diagnosis feature2 makes it possible to conduct quick checkups to ensure that everything is functioning as intended. In addition to preventative care, the app provides reminders when it’s time to replace a product’s filters. Taking things a step further, LG recently announced the upcoming launch of its Upgradeable Appliances – appliances that let users download new features and functions from the ThinQ app’s Upgrade Center, and enjoy more and more value over time. Offering new and constantly evolving user experiences without the need to ‘upgrade’ to a newer model, LG’s Upgradeable Appliance paradigm has the potential to further extend the lifespan of the company’s electronics products and help ease the global problem of e-waste. With the latest smart home technologies from providers like LG, life can be more convenient and more sustainable than ever. Happy Earth Day! # # # 1 LG ThinQ App compatible products, services and available features may vary depending on model or region/country. 2 Smart Diagnosis logo may vary depending on the regions and product models. The last two years have taken a real toll on people’s physical and mental wellbeing, with prolonged social-distancing measures pushing outdoor activities and international travel out of the reach. As we continue to spend most of our time home, hobbies that can be carried out in the comfort of our home are all the rage, like indoor gardening which can help improve one’s mental resilience and physical well-being through the growing of plants that clean the air and make living spaces more beautiful and relaxing. In line with this emerging home gardening trend, LG unveiled LG tiiun, an indoor gardening appliance, at CES 2022. The first prototype was revealed at CES 2020, and since then LG has worked tirelessly to optimize its size and weight so that the most novice of gardeners can cultivate vegetables, herbs and even flowers at home all year round. Featuring two shelves with each capable of holding up to six all-in-one seed packages along with three different seed kits, users can now bring life to a variety of home-grown green goodness in just four to eight weeks.* In development, the LG tiiun project has involved countless hours studying the fine details of cultivating plants, including in-depth research on numerous plant species and cultivation methods. To develop its seed kits, LG researchers went as far as travelling to Sri Lanka and Estonia to study the best soil and medium for healthy plant growth. With achieving the most eco-conscious seed kits the goal, LG tiiun seed packages now include 20 kinds of seeds from arugula and kale to thyme, peppermint and marigold. “During the early stages of development, we considered around 80 kinds of seeds from food we eat every day to more obscure vegetable plants, like the fascinating desert Ice Plant, that most might not have heard of,” said Lim Ki-young, a senior researcher of tiiun at LG. “In the end, we made the decision to incorporate only the more familiar crop seeds that could be used in various ways into our seed kits.” LG tiiun leverages LG’s technological expertise across multiple appliances from its best-in-class refrigerators and water purifiers to comprehensive ventilation systems. With LG’s renowned Inverter Compressor on board, the Flexible Weather Control System adjusts tiiun’s internal temperature to create the ideal conditions for organic growth, enabling plants to grow regardless of the season and temperature. And for those thinking it’s probably too high maintenance, it employs water supply technology that automatically waters the plants eight times a day for fast, strong growth. The modern gardening appliance’s simple yet elegant design beautifully harmonizes with any décor, and comes in two sophisticated, soothing colors – Nature Beige and Nature Green – to give the green thumbs of the world more choice. To further advance the indoor gardening experience, the company released LG tiiun mini on March 3 in Korea, an accessory that lets users move their tiiun plants to a desk or end table to put them on display. “LG tiiun delivers both practical functionality and emotional support to those looking to grow their own plants in this new era of living,” said Lee Hyun-jee, head of tiiun marketing development at LG. “Through regular updates, we hope to add smarter and more convenient features that can be controlled on the LG ThinQ app and give aspiring gardeners the next-level convenience they deserve in 2022.” With LG tiiun, enjoy a cleaner, greener lifestyle of growing your own herbs and greens at home. # # # * The cultivation period takes approximately four weeks for leafy greens, six weeks for herbs, and eight weeks for flowers.
