  1. After doing a few more tests, I see that it looks like the network activity goes in spurts. I suppose it downloads some stuff into the buffer and then doesn't do anything else while the video is being played from the buffer. I looked up close at the screen (about a foot away) at a girl fishing in a boat in Norway as a drone passed over head. Although I didn't have a side by side comparison, they looked the same to me whether or not it was TV Youtube app or Xbox Youtube app. And this time, I also was getting about 115Mbps while running the TV app. Not sure why the variability. So many possible reasons. But again, visually, it looks fine to me as far as I can tell without having some sort of standard test to run.
  2. Ok, I did a little more testing with my LG OLE65BA7 TV. I took pictures of the screen. Here is what I took: 1. Xbox Youtube app 2. Roku Youtube app 3. TV Youtube app 4. Netflix network test The end result is, I don't know if I trust the stats for nerds to really say what is going on. Summary: Even though Netflix says I am getting 221 Mbps on network test (my ISP is supposed to be 200Mbps so I believe that number) and Xbox Youtube says it is getting 153Mbps connection speed while playing the video, Roku says it is only getting 45Mbps. And TV app says it is getting 64Mbps. And Xbox says ZERO network activity? Xbox is only one that says viewport and display are 4k. Maybe that drop in speed is because it is doing the upscaling? And that takes away from overall throughput? But, again, it LOOKS great. So I think I was remembering the 4k viewport and display from the Xbox and the others said they were doing 4k so I assumed it was. Don't know if any of this is any help, or it is just confirming what you were complaining about in the first post. p.s. After posting, I finally noticed the paper clip icon for adding "other media" and I've included them here. Don't know if the upload process changes resolution of attachments.
  3. I see what you are saying. I was almost POSITIVE that at one point I saw 4k at both the viewport and the resolution, but when I checked tonight, yep, 1080*2. It DOES LOOK better than 1080 though. I'll experiment with it more myself. Sorry for not getting what you were saying initially.
  4. I'm not quite following you. The youtube app definitely can specify and deliver 4k. Have you looked at the nerd stats? At least with my tv and youtube app.
  5. It might just be the app. Make sure you specify you want 4k in the app (I THINK you can do that). I seem to recall youtube doing something similar to me and I just put it to 4k instead of "auto". Then the Nerd Stats actually showed that it was doing 4k. It might also be that your network connection doesn't have enough throughput. I've read that on many of the TVs, the network card is very slow. It was on my TV. I switched it to use the "5g" wifi connection and it didn't have any problems. Good luck.
  6. What were you using as input before switch to HDMI? What are you watching? Youtube TV? Youtube? Some other app? Your wifi might not have a strong enough signal and then the TV is choosing a resolution that it can support for your wifi. And that maybe lower resolution. I have read that the LG TVs have very slow ethernet cards so if you try to watch something from the internet, I would suggest staying with the wifi and not trying ethernet.
  7. FWIW, I have the exact same problem. I wish it I could set the DEFAULT to be the HDMI to the receiver!!! Such a nuisance to have to switch it. I thought I might be able to use my Harmony Remote to always make that choice, but I couldn't see a way to do that.
  8. My OLED65B7A got some sort of webos update today. Looks like it is 6.00.20. Did this actually update something? The home screen looks the same, although MAYBE the buttons across the bottom are bigger.
  9. Resolution is in 2 directions, vertical and horizontal. Standard "4k" is 3840 x 2160 (tall x wide). So the 3840 is nearly 4,000 hence the 4k (a generous round off and probably a misuse of the "k" which usually means 1024). So the 2160p means how many pixels of vertical resolution (the TALL direction). The p means "progressive" as opposed to interlaced. In the old days, every other line of resolution was scanned on each scan of the screen. Now electronics are fast enough and pixels stay illuminated long enough that it makes all 2160 lines in one scan. So it sounds like you ARE watching 4k.
  10. I've been having sluggish YouTube lately as well. A video will start and then the spinning busy indicator and a long delay. I found that just disabling the internet and then reconnecting fixed it for a while. I am connecting wirelessly, fwiw. The internet provider switched from 100Mbps to 200Mbps and I thought somehow the change in speed might have screwed up the app.
  11. If you pressed the scroll wheel and you are displaying an external source, then I have no idea why it wouldn't show up. Sorry.
  12. Newbie, Did you follow the other steps? "Pick up your magic remote. Shake it until you get a pointer on the tv screen. Press the little scroll wheel button down. This should display the input source in the upper left corner such as "HDMI1". Then motion with the remote until the pointer is over that "HDMI1" and press the little scroll wheel again. That should show the information about that source." This assumes that the "input source" is something external, like HDMI2, for instance.
  13. No idea about any other TVs and Remotes other than my own. The magic remote should show an arrow on the screen when you pick it up. If you don't see it, usually shaking the remote will "wake" it up. If you don't have a magic remote, I don't know how it works. See if you can find the manual.
