The LG Content Store is missing from my smart TV so I can’t add any apps. It’s an older smart TV and the ribbon does not look like the newer models. Is it hidden somewhere?
Can you post the model number so the forum members can better help you?

I also was wondering how to do this as I don't use any "regular" TV at all (I'm getting TV thru an app). Unfortunately I can't find George's link....!??!?
That will be as I forgot to paste it...

I can only get one thing a week correct, and obviously the previous post was not it.

How can I update web browser in LG smart TV.
I am not able to play videos it shows your using old version pls update the browser.
Pls any suggestions
If the videos/websites you are trying to watch are Flash based or rely on esoteric backend software then they are not going and never will play in the webOS browser.
Citing some examples of sites you are having problems with would help.

Have you had any response from Hotstar?

Hi Huy Hoang,
Take a look at this video on YouTube, it shows the option on 2016-2017 models (and onwards?) when setting up not to include a TV service. This may be what you want, please let the forum know if it works for you.

Yes. Ugh. Please. They dropped the MLB app, no NHL app. Seriously it's becoming a useless smart TV.
Apps are generally speaking not written by LG but by the content providers themselves, if an app is dropped or one not available it is OK to badger LG about it but you also need to contact the content providers as well.

Hi James,
In your initial post you stated that you TV was a 556090PAU, this is incorrect as you then added a picture that shows you have a 55UK6090PAU. As I stated the end letter of the model number is related to the design of the TV, dual legs instead of a single leg stand. Please visit the following link to a page that will explain model number formatting:
http://en.tab-tv.com/?page_id=7111
When you purchased your last cell phone did you complain that the internal memory storage did not match the advertised storage? I am guessing you did not. TVs work in the same manner.
You may stand behind your comments that LG are crooks, but you still have not shown proof, please do.
As for my having no wits or intelligence... Well if I was going to write a 1820 word diatribe I would manage to include more than three periods and at least one comma, as well as other punctuation and paragraphs. May be the lack of intelligence on your part is to do with your choice of leisure time reading materials.
Basically if the TV is so bad, cut your losses and get rid of it and go buy a Samsung. They are welcome to have you on their forums, they may prefer trolls over there.

See this video on YouTube, I cannot guarantee that your model will have the option but it is worth a look:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4Jh5VBLBSk&t=111s
It should start around the 1.45 point just before the relevant set up information.

If you only plan on streaming to one TV then you could purchase a NAS with a direct HDMI out on it, and if you want to have 4K output you will need something with an Intel CPU not an ARM.
Something like this: https://www.qnap.com/en/product/ts-253b
Or, you could even try the new Raspberry Pi 4, which has a more powerful CPU and would happily out put via HDMI straight to your TV.

To use the Google Play Store and the apps that are on it you will need to by a device that runs Android.

Hey LG mates,
I have just bought OLED C8 and I am reading all the articles about streaming movies from PC to my smart TV, but I am not successfull at all.
1. I have 1Gbps internet, but all of my devices are connected to Wifi. Speed tests display 100 Mbps for download and upload maximum so I suppose that the router is not the best one. I have router right behind the TV, so maybe this will not be the best place after all. Should I use LAN cable for both devices or only one of them? I have bought CAT6, but as I read that the TV supports only 100Mbps through LAN cable, I am not sure if this will help for 4K movies.
2. I downloaded Plex to my MacBook Pro 2017 and my LG as well, but I was not able to stream anything. 1080p stopped in the beginning and was buffering for more than 15 minutes so I closed the application. What should be the proper set up of PLEX?
3. What preferences should the movie file have?
Get yourself a Raspberry Pi, version 3 would do but they have just released the 4 with up to 4GB of RAM. Then install DietPi which makes the set up Plex Media Server and other programmes really easy, add an external drive and you should be set to go.
The format of the media should not be a big issue as the Plex Media Server will encode it in a format suitable for the device seeking to view it.
I have watched 480p 720p videos of not particularly great quality streamed to my 2016 49" LG from a RPi 3 and the results have been more than adequate.
100Mbps networking should only be an issue with 4K if the media have been encoded at a really high bitrate/quality etc. If the cable is not quick enough then maybe it is time for faster WiFi.

There's no need for a sign-up to play videos. It's just an option.
I will look again.

Since Zee5 App is not available on the play store I am unable to play any media on LG Smart TV runs on WebOS. I have written to Zee5 in regards the same and they mentioned that they are aware of this issue and working on it and it would be available in a month. It has been 3 months past as of June 24, 2019 but the Zee5 App is not available.
Did you chase them up, and if so what was there answer?

It is as hard as ESPN getting some programmers to create it, so not very.

Hi,
I did find a LG YouTube video that shows how to set up a TV that will not be used for live TV services, the link below should start at the point with the relevant setting:
https://youtu.be/R4Jh5VBLBSk?t=111
The feature would probably be dependant on which model is is available on, but there is nothing to loose just by having a look.

Hi Khaja,
Yes that is indeed running webOS 4.x, however the model is different to that you stated in your original post, I see that I replied to the wrong person/post, so my apologies.
As for why it is not available to you at the moment will depend on your location and whether the software has passed for your particular model. If you are so inclined contact Hotstar directly to see what the state of play is, they have been pretty good at getting back to other forum users.

@George Hofmeister I have LG49SK8000PUA and still don't see the app available. The WebOS version i believe is 4.0. Is there any other constraint you're aware of
Hi Khaja,
The LG product page lists your set as being supplied with webOS 2.0:
https://www.lg.com/us/support-product/lg-49UF6400
While some TVs with 2.0 have received upgrades to 3.x I have not heard of any being upgraded to 4.x. Are you getting the number from the firmware version? If so a firmware of version 4.x.x does not equate to webOS 4.x.

I have found a site called Locast that will stream live tv for some home markets in the US. It’s a free service but they do ask for donations. However, I am unable to get it to run on my LG tv’s browser. The site returns an error saying that I refused a request for geolocation. Due to licensing agreements, the site needs this enabled and running on the browser to validate viewers aren’t streaming into non-US markets. Is this possible or am I out of luck?
Hi Chris,
Geolocation is, from what I can find on the web, supported by webOS right back from the days of Hewlett Packard:
https://www.webosnation.com/hp-introduces-feature-packed-webos-2-0
The problem is that sites now have to request your location by way of a pop up prompt, but this is something that the webOS browser does not currently support.
The above is a case in point, it works in Firefox, Opera etc as I can click on the pop up but not so on webOS.
However the test for geolocation at HTML5Test shows it as being 'broken' although this is for a 2016 model, but in comparison Samsung's Tizen browser from 2015 appears to work:

So I own a 56 inch LG ultra hdtv and the app store offers a Hotstar app. Now the app works fine for live shows and games, and also for non-premium content but it doesn't for Premium content. I am having a very specific issue- the video rendering problem. For the Premium content that included top-notch tv shows and movies, the app doesn't load the video- the video stops and plays and stops and plays. One might think that the internet connection might be slow, but that's not the case as we have 300mbps fast internet connection and all the HD content on Netflix and Amazon Prime works just fine. I contacted Hotstar regarding the same and they said they are working on it but LG is not responsive enough to resolve the matter fast. I have failed to get this thru with LG customer support, and now looking over here to see if any one else is having the same problem and they found a solution around. Also Hotstar claims that they issued an update for the app in May 2019, but the app on my tv is the one released on Mar 22, 2019 and there is still no update available. Please help!!
If you look elsewhere on the forum you will find others having the same issue. You will need to get in contact with Hotstar directly as they developed the app, LG merely distributes it. As I do not have access to Hotstar or knowledge of the app I do not know if it is a Hosted (Server Hosted) or packaged web apps. If it is Hosted (Server Hosted) then updates should come relatively quickly, packaged web app take longer as they have to go though the system of quality control and re-distribution via LG.

What LG has to do is put aside so many nonsense and excuses and meet the requests and needs of their customers, the LG webOS system has to be more flexible and take note of those who want the users who are the ones who pay and keep to this company
It is not as simple as LG deciding to write an app, there is much more to it than that. Where an app pulls the content from may not be compliant with the webOS platform as well as many other factors. This is why it is dependent on the content provider to create an app, and of course they are going to focus their efforts on the largest platforms first, which LG is not. This is why I would suggest that if you want a content provider to be available on the webOS platform you contact them directly to show them that there is a desire for their product.

That will all depend on what model of television you have, as older units will not be capable of running the updated software so will not receive an update.
