Dinkins, One of Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in AI, Showcases Her
Latest Art on LG OLED at the Guggenheim’s ‘Late Shift’ Event
SEOUL, Jan. 29, 2024 — Stephanie Dinkins presented three of her latest works in progress at ‘Late Shift x Stephanie Dinkins,’ an after-hours public program held at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York City on January 25. Pushing the boundaries of artistic creation with her use of AI, Dinkins is the first inaugural recipient of the 2023 LG Guggenheim Award that celebrates artists breaking new ground in technology-based art and one of Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in AI.
AI is integral to Dinkins’ artistic practice and vision, as she investigates ways to make AI more accessible and inclusive. She raises important questions like “What does AI need from you?” to make a point that AI needs to develop a more well-rounded perspective that better reflects the real-world. Her projects shed light on how AI can tend to have the mindset of the majority, easily overlooking and further ostracizing those living in the grey area of society. Through her thought-provoking interactions with AI made into art, Dinkins bridges the gap between art and technology to advocate for positive change.
Her works in progress presented at Guggenheim invite the audience into the narrative of helping AI grow in social values such as care and attentiveness. Named ‘’Not the Only One Avatar image 2023 brain (N’TOO),’ ‘The Stories We Tell Our Machines,’ and ‘WisdomBot,’ Dinkins’ works build on the interaction between AI displayed on LG OLED screens and the audiences. Again, the artist pinpoints that we all have something to contribute in shaping how AI understands the world.
The ongoing theme for the ‘LG Guggenheim Art and Technology Initiative’ has been the symbiosis between technology and art where each inspires the other to explore new paths. Dinkins’ presentation of her recent works comes at a timely juncture. LG CEO Redefines AI as ‘Affectionate Intelligence,’ Highlights the Technology’s Key Role
in Elevating the Customer Experience and Creating a Better Life for All
LAS VEGAS, Jan. 8, 2024 — LG Electronics (LG) today held its LG World Premiere press conference at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, introducing its new vision and exhibition theme for CES 2024, ‘Reinvent your future.’
CEO William Cho opened the proceedings by restating the company’s ambitious goal – first announced last year – to transform into a Smart Life Solution Company. Having gained a rich understanding of global consumers and their living spaces for close to seven decades, the company is now going beyond the home, expanding its business into diverse spaces including mobility, commercial and virtual. In every arena, the company aims to improve the customer experience by focusing on five key elements dubbed 3C2S: Care, Connectivity, Customization, Servitization and Sustainability.
AI Redefined as ‘Affectionate Intelligence’
In its journey to innovate and elevate the customer experience, LG has identified AI as one of the most essential enablers of success. Rather than fixating on the evolution of the technology itself, LG is dedicated to demonstrating how AI can provide tangible benefits in the real world.
The company redefined AI as “Affectionate Intelligence,” revealing a belief that AI can foster a customer experience that is more caring, empathetic and attentive.
Real-Time Life Intelligence
During the press conference, CEO Cho highlighted the unique characteristics of LG’s AI solutions, starting with its capacity to harness a wealth of data, in both scale and quality. Among the 500 to 700 million LG products currently in use worldwide, there are many smart devices equipped with AI-supported intelligent sensors that are optimized to learn and analyze users’ ‘physical’ and ‘emotional’ life patterns.
Whereas many companies rely on internet-based data to train their AI, LG has the advantage of being able to draw on ‘real life’ data gathered from billions of connected devices, encompassing LG smart products and a wide range of IoT devices. This dataset can provide valuable insight into customer-device interactions, as well as customers’ environments, behavior patterns and emotional states. This multi-faceted data can also give the company a more complete picture of its customers’ lives at home, enabling the delivery of better and smarter lifestyle solutions.

CEO Cho went on to explain the integral role played by the LG AI Brain, a powerful processing engine driven by LG’s large language model. Leveraging the company’s vast repository of user data, the AI Brain forecasts customers’ needs based on user-product interactions and contextual learning, performs advanced reasoning processes and generates optimal solutions through orchestrating the actions of physical devices.

Starting with the home, vice president Jung presented a blueprint for LG’s AI-based smart home. In line with the vision to transform into a smart life solution company, the company is incorporating LG’s unique ‘Affectionate Intelligence’ technology into the ThinQ platform. Mr. Jung not only unveiled innovative new services, such as ‘ChatThinQ,’ a generative AI chatbot that enables natural conversations with customers, and ‘3D Home View,’ a 3D visualization of the home for integrated control of spaces in an intuitive way, but also revealed plans to launch a new smart home hub.
And, in mobility, the company shared its vision for cars as a ‘living space on wheels’ powered by software-defined vehicle (SDV) solutions. In line with this vision, Eun Seok-hyun, president of LG VS Company, introduced LG AlphaWare, the company’s suite of software solutions for SDV. SEOUL, Sep. 19, 2023 — LG Electronics (LG) today shared its first step to become a media and entertainment platform company, a business transformation that will enrich customers’ lives by delivering valuable services and a unique collection of curated contents in products, including LG OLED and LG QNED TVs. LG shared its new direction and strategy at the webOS Partner Summit 2023, held at the LG Sciencepark in Seoul, South Korea, and attended by content producers, providers, developers and industry figures from over 30 countries.
The first event of its kind, webOS Partner Summit 2023 provides the perfect forum for LG to share its new vision – and the immense value of the ever-evolving and expanding webOS smart TV platform ecosystem – with its trusted global partners.
Since its launch on LG Smart TVs in 2014, webOS has been one of the most widely used smart TV platforms in the world. Powering more than 200 million LG TVs worldwide, webOS also supports several third-party TV brands in multiple markets. Moving forward, LG plans to extend webOS to more third-party TV companies and expand the platform to other product categories. Within 3 years, LG expects to have over 300 million webOS-powered devices.
To deliver the unmatched convenience and expansive ecosystem of webOS to a broader customer base, LG has already applied its platform webOS to a range of categories, including projectors, digital signage and in-vehicle infotainment systems.
Moreover, the number of third-party partner brands that have embraced webOS Hub, the webOS solution for third-party brands, has grown substantially, increasing from 20 just two years ago to over 300 today. During that time, webOS Hub has undergone meaningful upgrades with the variety of content on offer expanding to include cloud gaming and OTT services and new features arriving to enhance convenience and the overall user experience. Additionally, some of LG’s partner TV brands have now introduced their own OLED TVs powered by webOS Hub.
The webOS smart TV platform is continuously evolving, providing seamless upgrades that add support for new services and bringing constant refinement to the user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) design based on LG’s deep understanding of customers. To allow as many users as possible to enjoy the latest version of webOS on their home TVs, LG is offering seamless support for TV operating system upgrades and updates via platform upgrades even for earlier TV models.
As part of its strategy to expand the webOS platform ecosystem, LG acquired the US advertising and content data analysis specialist, Alphonso, in 2021. Alphonso established subsidiaries in the UK and Greece last year, accelerating the global growth of its content service.
LG is set to make a substantial investment of KRW 1 trillion in its webOS business over the next five years in order to provide more content and services that cater to the diverse lifestyles and preferences of consumers. By boosting its competitiveness in content and services, LG believes it will further elevate the webOS user experience.
LG’s strategic investment will be focused on broadening the range of content available via the webOS platform, boosting usability by innovating the UI and UX, and strengthening partnerships with content production companies on a global scale. To date, LG has worked with its partners to bring new technologies to the platform for gamers, sports fans or Gen Z users. An example is the integration of Sye, a Prime Video proprietary, which provides a low latency technology that will benefit LG customers who are fans of live-streaming sports like Thursday Night Football. LG TVs deliver Netflix HDR streaming and have just opened the beta release for Netflix Games on TV and with the launch of the lifestyle screens for Gen Z, the company worked with YouTube to make a Native Touch UX available for the app on models such as StanbyME.
LG is also strengthening innovation in the area of AI-based search and recommendations. The company plans to incorporate a voice user interface (VUI) feature into partner companies’ apps, which will let webOS users easily control and navigate third-party content services with their voice, and enable swift and seamless content discovery.
Service usability will likewise be enhanced. LG Channels 3.0, LG’s premium, free streaming service, boasts a growing selection of TV series and has a revamped UI that allows users to view more content options, including live channels and movies, on the screen, reducing the need to scroll. And thanks to the new UI, users can now easily explore what’s on other channels without having to pause or navigate away from what they’re watching.
Available in 27 countries worldwide, LG Channels currently offers over 3,000 channels and has over 50 million subscribers as of March 2023. In 2022 alone, the number of unique devices on which LG Channels was used increased by 75 percent, while viewing time rose by 57 percent and usage frequency surged to make the service one of the top-five most-accessed apps on the webOS platform.
LG is actively investing in its smart TV platform development capabilities by partnering with academic institutions in South Korea to nurture the next generation of software talent, and by reinforcing its efforts to secure top-notch software professionals all around the globe.

Gracing the Corporate Zone is a 163-inch LG MAGNIT with remote power supply option. The Food and Beverage Zone features a variety of digital displays, including a 37-inch Stretch display ideal for advertising on food pick-up shelves, and ultra-bright 22-and 55-inch weatherproof models optimized for drive-through applications. Complementing the displays are software solutions such as SuperSign AD and SuperSign QSR. SuperSign AD enables the distribution of targeted advertising content based on select data and can generate reports that support effective advertising management. SuperSign QSR, LG’s specialized order management solution for quick service restaurants, facilitates order taking, order transmission to kitchen displays and can even manage waiting lists.
At the Software Solutions Zone, visitors can explore LG’s diverse range of innovative cloud platform solutions: the SuperSign Cloud and Pro:Centric Cloud content management solutions and the LG ConnectedCare remote management system. Award’s Final Four Teams Joined by Renowned ESG Scholars and Company’s
Executives at LIFE’S GOOD AWARD Conference in South Korea
SEOUL, Jan. 17, 2023 — LG Electronics (LG) has announced the final winner of its LIFE’S GOOD AWARD, supporting global innovators taking on challenges to help create a Better Life for All. The Grand Prix was awarded to Dot Inc. from South Korea.
The jury ranked the final four teams after each of the teams pitched their innovative solutions in the award’s final round, held during the LIFE’S GOOD AWARD Conference at LG Sciencepark in Seoul, Korea, on January 16. LG’s own executives leading the company’s ESG management, CSO Lee Sam-soo and CTO Dr. Kim Byoung-hoon, were present as well.
The award embodies LG’s ESG vision of a Better Life for All, aiming to foster a brighter future for the planet and people. The company aimed to solicit ideas for environmental sustainability and accessibility, two key focuses of its long-term ESG initiative, the Better Life Plan 2030. The ingenious solutions presented by the four winners illustrate the power and potential of tech-for-good to spread positive impact on the world.
The winning teams are: Dot Inc. of South Korea (Grand Prix/USD 700,000 in prize money); SOLUTUM of Israel (Gold/USD 200,000); Day1Lab of South Korea (Silver/USD 100,000); and NONA Technologies of the United States (Bronze/USD 50,000).
LIFE’S GOOD AWARD Winning Solutions
Dot Inc.: developed an assistive information display device for the visually impaired composed of 2,400 braille pins – or ‘dots’ – which move up and down. The novel device converts images, maps and other diverse digital information from connected devices such as computers and mobile phones into a display for visually impaired users to comprehend. SOLUTUM: developed a novel plastic material that dissolves in water at ambient temperature and then biodegrades leaving no microplastic or toxin residue. Day1Lab: created an organic polymer plastic which completely biodegrades in freshwater after about two weeks, and in the earth after about two months. NONA Technologies: developed a desalination solution leveraging Ion Concentration Polarization (ICP) to remove viruses, bacteria, salt and debris from water. Along with the final four teams, the LIFE’S GOOD AWARD Conference was graced by the esteemed members of the award’s jury, the LG’s Life’s Good Committee, consisting of the company’s executives and respected scholars in the area of responsible business management; Alex Edmans, a professor at London Business School, Christopher Marquis, a professor at Cambridge Judge Business School and Hyun S. Shin, a professor at Hanyang Business School and a director of the Collective Impact Center at Hanyang University.
The conference saw various attendees – including members of the public and local university students as well as LG employees and partners – and was livestreamed so that audiences from all around the globe could tune into the proceedings. During the morning, all four teams gave a final presentation and participated in a Q&A session, while the jury provided feedback based on the impact, innovation and sustainability of each solution. The afternoon featured an awards ceremony honoring the four teams and announcing their final placings, as well as special lectures delivered by Professor Edmans, Professor Marquis and Professor Shin.
