I have been using the LG 43" UHD Smart TV with WebOS now for about a year.  At first it seemed to run fine and continuously while watching all manner of material.  Recently I added a Synology NAS Server to my network, and I've noticed interruptions regarding the "must restart the app to free more memory" while running the Plex app.

I have tried various things to resolve the problem but the only thing I have found useful is to cut the power "just to the TV".   I have my cables tied neatly together with ties, and as I'm not sure which is for the TV at my power strip, I find it easiest just to pull the plug on back of the TV.   This should theoretically free up the memory just on the TV's internal memory.  After trying this I have been able to watch any content which was previously stopping to free memory, without any problems for a least a couple of days now.

If it happens again, the first thing I will try is unplugging the TV for several seconds and try again.

Thanks for the advise, it seems to have worked for now so thank you.

I'm glad this has been a helpful tip.  I have a fairly vast library of movies, many in h.265 (HEVC) which began to fail in Plex.  At first I thought it was my server, but I looked up the specs for the TV, and the memory seems perilously low for an advanced Smart UHD TV.  I reasoned that it was just the TV memory failing, and one way to be sure is to cut the power completely for a few seconds.  I went back and watched several films without fail.

I should warn you though, that I have had a repeat of the problem a couple of times, but it only takes a few seconds to correct.

Regards,

found this on another blog and it worked for me. Sharing just in case

To resolve the issue, unplug the TV then press the on/off button for 10 seconds.  Wait a further 20 seconds then plug the TV back in and turn it back on. Apps should now run without the error.

Edit: The on/off button on my LG TV is directly under the standby light on the bottom of the TV.

Edit: I didn't have to do this myself but one person who has left a comment said that clearing all browsing data worked for them.  I have written a post explaining how to do this:

Ive been having this memory fault for ages.... on a tv that's always been left on standby... turning the TV fully off for a while, then back on has solved it...  thanks...

Only solved it for a short while.... lg tv so slow... it happened again after searching for a series .. responses to the controller were very slow.. then it just went to a reset on the plex....🤬

Why does YouTube keep 'restarting now to free up memory' and how do I fix this very annoying bug in the WebOS or TV?
Thanks everyone for your suggestions, answers. Tend to agree with Petevick as I usually don't have any other 'apps' running in the background to take up the very limited memory. Have contacted LG support via clunky email page and had one reply so far which also said to check for open apps or - wait for this - if it only happens with YouTube 'app' then it is their problem and I should contact YouTube for a fix!
Not very helpful, ignores the many consumers with similar issue and gives no indication of a future firmware fix.
Looks like LG are another 'couldn't care less' TV manufacturer selling overpriced TV's on the back of 'Smart' features that don't work properly and are unlikely to be kept up to date.
Will remember this next time I need a new set.

Just bought a LG C5 Oled TV. I'm getting this error message randomly when i'm watching netflix. App will now restart to free up memory.

And yes ...  unplugging my tv and deleting apps is NOT a fix.
      You are incompetent corporate scum.
      I'm never buying LG again.
