Web browser is closing when playing HTML 5 video

Question

Posted

Hello,

I have a problem with my web browser. After 15 minutes of playing a HTML5 video it is closing and opening another background application. I have a LG 42LB65 smart tv.

I searched in the settings for some option that automatically closes the web browser if it thinks that it's in standby or something.

I didn't found any option. Also in the web browser settings there is nothing like this.

Did anyone else have this problem?

I think I found the issue.

When the HTML 5 video is finished or if the buffeting stopped and there is no more buffer to play the TV automatically closes the web browser app and opens a background application.

There is any setting that I can disable this?

try to update to new Firmware update if available. I have installed v4.00.13 by changing to South Africa service country. but I am in Norway and I don't have any problem playing HTML 5 Videos on my 47LB630V.

I updated the TV to version 3.23.24. It seems that bug was fixed but a new one appeared :).

Test case:

1. Open HTML 5 video

2. Press full screen from the video player.

3. The screen is black, fullscreen doesn't work.

The good thing is that I found a use case that somehow bypasses the problem :)

Before pressing fullscreen on the video player press fullscreen for the browser. If you first press fullscreen for the browser and then you press fullscreen in the video player it works.

Maybe someone is monitoring this forum and makes a list with the bug reports.

@getmealive: Tried to change the location to South Africa but I don't have it in my list. I live in Germany.

I tested the browser with HTML5Test and Peacekeeper by futuremark. The good news is that the 3.23.24 fw version browser scored 484 out of 555 points. The bad news is that Peacekeeper test crashed the browser at Web Works test. Therefore it is possible to have a critical bug related to web works inside the browser. I was able to replicate it every time.

The Web Browser has a lot of problems. On some websites full screen still doesn't work for me.

I am waiting for new updates that will fix the problem.

WebOS looks really promising but for now there are a lot of bugs and I really hope that they will fix them to make the product more stable.

      Hi there,

I have an LG smart TV OLED65G36LA (LG OS v03.20.17, webOS TV version 8.20.0-710) , and the Prime Video App was no longer able to update (from Dec 2025) and therefore could no longer be used.
I have tried uninstalling the app and re-installing, and that was unable to work, so then applied a full reset on the LG TV and so had to reinstall all of my other apps (Apple TV, Netflix, etc etc) which all successfully downloaded so confirmed network connections and setup are all confirmed working.
When I try to download the Prime Video app, it remains stuck on the download screen and is unable to update.
      Thanks

      Hello there!
Recently the prime video app started to require the update to open, and now i am having a problem, because this app update REQUIRES to a system update of firmware (to webos24),
but it will make impossible to homebrew later.
So, can someone at least provide the last or update ipk of amazon (amazon.ipk), so i can install manually?
      Thanks!

      Hello,

It would be nice to have an ability to play video (not only?) content from folder in shuffle mode.

      Thanks.

      Viewing videos from
link hidden, please login to view was fine up to about one month ago. I do not know if there was an upgrade, but videos from that site  cannot be played any longer on this tv. From the same wifi network (home network) videos from that site play fine to a number of devices (Android phones, 2 win11 laptops, 1 win10 laptop).
Adjusted all browser settings (JavaScript, cookies), cleared cookies, cleared all browser data and history.
      No updates available to download
Finally, reset to factory settings but still videos from cannot be played on the tv set.
