I appreciate the effort made in answering my recommendation

I am talking about LG's playback of video files from a USB. etc
Kodi is not just a program viewer unlike LG's mkv  very limited playback support and abilities. Kodi plays all types of video.

Kodi supports DTS-HD  7.1 and atmos audio LG does NOT. (Look up the specification of LG audio & Video support)

L.Gs play back of video files changes with each updated TV version. I can't play 4k files on new G5 TV
that I could before on previous LG TV, and this happened again to previous models.
If LG was consistent in playback abilities I would need to ask for this. Again it changes with each new model.

Again LG please allow Kodi to be supported / installed on webOS
Best Of all it's free cost nothing

Hello The Old Man, after reading this post, I think there is a misunderstanding about who should make Kodi available in WebOS on LG Tv. Normally the Kodi team is responsible for preparing an App to deal with all the constraints that LG provides and then there is a long process to be followed by the kodi’s developers so that the application will be compliant. At the end of that process, LG will accept or refuse the application if the rules (fromLG) are or are not followed by Kodi. As far as I know, Kodi is an open source media player and people are free to develop and write an application for lg webos. I am not working for LG but here you can find some more details

I suggest that you try some other solutions like PLEX that is a great client-server application where the client is part of the content store and run on webos, and the plex media server can run elsewhere on your pc for instance. And then you have even more what you already do with Kodi… in minutes !!

Agreed but LG can support it to enhance their products instead of being restrictive.

Plex is not a good solution in my eyes  I have tried it.

So again what's wrong with supporting such a application.
where people can improve and enhance their TV viewing.

Again LG's mkv or ?? playback support is appalling.

The OLED TV I have is amazing, again playback is terrible and limited.

So hence the recommendation to assist in improving their products.

There are so many people who like me would love to have such an improvement to the TV's

I appreciate your reply,

Hello The Old Man, I understand what you mean when you want a different approach based on the freedom and customization of your TV software. And Kodi approach is really great on that. Unfortunately, most TV providers choose to control their TV operating system and also put some restrictions to the applications.
Personally, I don’t think to fight against the TV giants is a good idea. Kodi runs on a PC and you can find very small and powerful mini PC (like the Geekom ones for example).  This is what I have done. And it is all perfect. You just use the LG TV as a display, a pure display to a small pc box connected to the hdmi input. Then you can customize everything that you want in the Kodi running in the PC. No need to beg LG to whatever you want.

@The Old Man kodi is available on the homebrew app store and has been for over 2 years. You can install via dev mode.

Unfortunately LG have not supported its release on its own official app store, despite it being available on Google, Apple and Microsoft stores, for free for years.

As the title says, please fix ASAP playback of Profile 7 (FEL/MEL) inside Matroska (.mkv) container.

On WEB OS 24 it was working with backwards compatibility to HDR10 base layer - in other words the Dolby Vision was omitted.

Currently in WEBOS 25 the files won't work/play.

As LG started to support Profile 8 Dolby Vision from WEB OS 25 in MKV properly, this should be easy fix for LG.

Example of MediaInfo of Profile 7:

      Video ID : 1 Format : HEVC Format/Info : High Efficiency Video Coding Format profile : Main [email protected]@High HDR format : Dolby Vision, Version 1.0, Profile 7.6, dvhe.07.06, BL+EL+RPU, no metadata compression, Blu-ray compatible / SMPTE ST 2086, Version HDR10, HDR10 compatible Codec ID : V_MPEGH/ISO/HEVC Duration : 1 h 25 min Bit rate : 55.3 Mb/s Width : 3 840 pixels Height : 2 160 pixels Display aspect ratio : 16:9 Frame rate mode : Constant Frame rate : 23.976 (24000/1001) FPS Color space : YUV Chroma subsampling : 4:2:0 (Type 2) Bit depth : 10 bits Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 0.278 Stream size : 32.9 GiB (91%) Language : English Default : Yes Forced : No Color range : Limited Color primaries : BT.2020 Transfer characteristics : PQ Matrix coefficients : BT.2020 non-constant Mastering display color primaries : BT.2020 Mastering display luminance : min: 0.0001 cd/m2, max: 1000 cd/m2 Maximum Content Light Level : 966 cd/m2 Maximum Frame-Average Light Level : 223 cd/m2 Cheers and thank you.
