PreCentral: Real-time Twitter updates in exhibition mode with Flixi

Recommended Posts

This tip is only for the HP TouchPad

FlixiWhen Exhibition mode was introduced with webOS 2.1, it gave developers the ability to create whole apps or just a subset of features without the typical concerns like power consumption. If you had an app that required updating every few seconds or minutes, such as stock quote or sports score app, you would eat through your battery life extraordinary quickly. However, if you were to know that the device would always be charging on a touchstone with the screen on, you would have a lot more freedom in what you could do. This can be extremely beneficial for social networking apps that require a real-time feed for updates, such as Twitter or Facebook.

In the case of an exhibition-based Twitter app, your best option is

by Under Clouds Games, available in the HP App Catalog for $2.99 and recently updated for the .  Flixi is not technically a twitter client, but rather a multi-purpose screensaver app that gives you the ability to view multiple types of information on the screen at the same time. This can include the weather, a RSS news feed, the time, your Google calendar, a twitter feed, or more, and can be arranged in one of 17 pre-arranged layouts.

Once you open up the app or switch to it in Exhibition Mode (make sure you have already ), just tap the Flixi Settings settings icon and set up your dashboard as required, selecting Twitter for at least one of your panels. Once logged on to Twitter, you will see an almost real-time update of your Twitter feed in the app. There is no action needed to refresh the feed, it will do all the work for you. But be advised that Flixi is not a full-scale Twitter app. You can only see the latest 40 or so tweets, but you can not reply to tweets in the app itself, nor get access to the history view of a twitter "conversation." While you get quick at-a-glance updates to twitter and even load up a website with an in-app browser, you will still need a full Twitter app or go to Twitter.com to post new or interact with any tweets.

is available in the webOS App Catalog for $2.99 and is compatible with all webOS devices running webOS 3.0.2 or higher

Leader in Mobility Sector Innovation, Company Exhibits Its Cutting-edge Technologies,
Provides Insights into Evolution of Software-defined Vehicle at EVS37

SEOUL, April 23, 2024 — LG Electronics (LG), a respected mobility sector innovator, is participating in the 37th Electric Vehicle Symposium & Exhibition (EVS) at COEX in Seoul, South Korea, from April 23–26. Hosted by the World Electric Vehicle Association (WEVA), EVS has a proud 55-year history and continues to attract top manufacturers, academics and thought leaders from around the globe. At EVS37, themed ‘Electric Waves to Future Mobility,’ LG will showcase its latest electric vehicle (EV) technologies and solutions, including batteries, charging systems and EV components.
This year’s event will play host to more than 600 booths, with an anticipated attendance of more than 1,500 EV experts and approximately 250 companies. LG Electronics, in conjunction with its sister companies LG Energy Solution, LG Innotek and LG Display, is presenting an array of cutting-edge technologies across key areas of innovation. These range from core EV parts and systems to safe and efficient batteries and chargers. With its diverse portfolio of interrelated and complementary solutions, LG aims to play a significant role in driving the future of mobility.
Visitors to LG’s booth at EVS37 will have the opportunity to see the company’s premium in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) system. Employing plastic-OLED (P-OLED) display technology, LG’s system seamlessly unites three displays – an instrument panel, center information display (CID) and co-driver display (CDD) – to create a futuristic and elegantly curved panoramic screen. The much-in-demand system, which also incorporates LG’s exclusive curved glass molding, surface treatment and display bonding technologies, can already be found in a premium EV model from one of world’s top automakers.
LG is also introducing its Automotive Content Platform (ACP) powered by webOS. Designed to elevate the in-vehicle experience, the new platform enables front and backseat passengers to enjoy high-quality video, game and music content while travelling to their destination. Based on the acclaimed webOS platform for LG Smart TV and tailored for in-vehicle use, the ACP powered by webOS offers easy access to a variety of popular OTT apps as well as convenient control and personalized content recommendations. Launched at the end of last year, the LG ACP was initially integrated into Hyundai Motor and Kia’s new Genesis GV80 and GV80 Coupe.
LG Magna e-Powertrain, a joint venture between LG and Magna, is showcasing its innovative products to the public for the first time at EVS37. Among its offerings are an 800V high-speed hairpin motor capable of producing a 250kW output, an 800V SiC inverter that controls motor with electric energy from the battery and an 800V IPGM drive system integrating a motor, inverter and gearbox.
As part of the lecture and discussion series taking place at EVS37, LG will present its insights into the challenges of realizing the software-defined vehicle (SDV) – and introduce its technological solutions for overcoming them. Among the scheduled speakers are research fellows from the R&D laboratory at the LG Vehicle component Solutions Company Hong Hyun-taek, Park Young-kyung and software business leader Lee Jun-nyung. Additionally, LG’s R&D experts will demonstrate how the company is developing vehicle-interior sensing technology that will enhance the overall SDV user experience.
“A recognized leader in advanced vehicle components, LG is excited to unveil its flagship solutions to the public, and share its considerable insight at EVS in Seoul,” said Lee Sang-yong, senior vice president of the R&D laboratory at LG Vehicle component Solutions Company. “Through our cutting-edge technologies, and via strategic collaboration with affiliates and industry partners, we will continue to meet the needs and exceed the expectations of OEMs and end-users.”

I'm having this problem with LG Oled 65c16LA with WebOs Version 03.40.85
When I turn off the TV, it goes into standby mode.
After 2 minutes the red standby LED turns off and it is no longer possible to turn the TV back on with the remote or with the power on button.
It is then necessary to unplug the power supply, wait a few minutes and reconnect it.
So the TV goes back to standby and you can turn it on again. In use everything works.
Is it a software problem? How can I solve it?
      Thank you

There's been a lot of frustration over the years since LG aquired webOS and moved it into all their TVs, specifically around software updates. After a year or so, updates are not always available, mostly due to model and hardware limitations. Now come teh 2024 webOS TVs and LG is promising to keep you updated for at least five years! That's quite a turnaround from years past..

The news is part of the recent 2024 QNED Announcement:
LG 2024 QNED TVs also elevate the home entertainment experience with versatile personalization and increased convenience. With the webOS Re:New program,* LG is offering an upgrade to the latest version of its webOS smart TV platform to give more smart TV owners the most up-to-date user experience for the next five years. This notable offer comes to LG QNED Mini LED 8K models launched in 2022 (QNED99 and QNED95 series) and will be extended to additional models in the QNED TV lineup worldwide in the future.

Is there a Twitter App for LG webOS? I can't find it in the LG Content Store on my LG smart OLED TV.  I can open Twitter in the browser app, and once it raised a prompt "It's better in the App" but that has not returned.

Web searches on the topic come up empty.  Either the app is there so nobody asks about it, OR people are really incurious!

      Hi !
I am going to buy a new LG TV, probably - which comes with WebOS (not android TV). Now, one of the features I really liked with Android TV is the ability to set ambient mode with chosen google photos albums. Is it possible also with WebOS? (without connecting any external streamer, I prefer to use the TV operating system).

      Thanks!
      Maor
