Open webOS gets a website all its own, Nyx hardware abstraction layer gets a rel

a continues, with today seeing the release of the . As described on the nyx-lib GitHub repository, "Nyx is the webOS portability layer used to isolate the remainder of webOS from dependencies on the hardware and core OS upon which it is running." Essentially what that means is that Nyx picks up where the drops off.

So while open source kernel integrates a number of Android drivers and the like, Nyx takes it a step further for Open webOS, enabling the OS to run successfully on an even greater variety of hardware. And since Nyx is open source like the rest of Open webOS eventually will be, it's conceivable that it could be adapted in conjunction with the Linux Standard Kernel to enable other operating systems to run on other hardware. Not that we'd want that - we want webOS, of course. How exactly Nyx works, well, that's over our heads here. Dammit Jim, we're bloggers, not programmers! All we know is that we're glad to see it released and excited by its potential. There's a wide world of excellent hardware out there running less than optimal operating systems, and we want them to run webOS. That's our hope, now that we've been reduced to dreaming about a day where webOS hardware is produced again.

Today also saw the launch of a new website for Open webOS: openwebosproject.org. The new site is styled very much after the old Palm.com and the current webOS Developer Center, and right now serves more as an introduction for the uninitiated and a portal to content on other sites. But eventually it could be more. Not that we'd recommend you go somewhere else to get the latest on Open webOS. You're already reading this, so clearly you're smart enough to know where to look.

Nyx, for the record, is yet another Greek goddess (joining , , and ). She's the goddess of the night, and is only seen in the shadows and just a glimpse at that. An appropriate name, we suppose, for a hardware abstraction layer that's supposed to do it's job without being seen or heard.

Hi, since I think yesterday I have an issue with HBO GO - it just shows unsupported device and that is it. According to their website, WebOS 3.5+ should be supported, I have LG uh6107 and in menu it shows SW version  5.60.15, so I think it should be ok.. does anybody have the same issue?

Our current app is available on 4K/UHD LG television models running the following system software:
webOS 3.0 webOS 3.5 webOS 4.0 webOS 5.0 No 720p or 1080p (“full HD”) sets are supported for our current app at this time.
Note: Due to root certificate limitations with the device OS itself, only webOS 5.0+ devices support secure connections with a personal Plex Media Server. To allow connections to a personal server, devices running earlier webOS versions must be set to Allow Insecure Connections in the TV app settings and the Plex Media Server must be set to Preferred for the Secure Connections preference.

      Hello,
I have a 2 year old OLED55C9PTA. The current WebOS is at 6.0 while mine is still at 4.9.5-7.

Are we getting the WebOS updates? Is there anyway that I can manually update it to the latest WebOS?
      Thanks!

Sling TV is my default app on my LG TV.   Everything  was working fine until today.  Now when I hit the HOME button on the remote, the TV correctly returns to the HOME page, but then immediately re-launches Sling TV before I have an opportunity to select a different app (for example, Netflix).   This cycle repeats itself every time I enter HOME while in the Sling TV app.  The only way I can return to HOME without Sling TV automatically relaunching is to manually select a different input (e.g., HDMI one or LIVE Team), and then enter HOME and it will correctly stay in HOME until another app is selected.  I've tried resetting the TV  and I've tried deleting/adding Sling TV.  I have the latest WebOS update.  This may have started after downloading a recent Sling TV app?  Not sure.  Any suggestions appreciated.
