Settlement reached in Palm Profile data loss class action suit

Ah, this takes us back. If you've been around webOS long enough, you might remember the brouhaha of November 2009. Yes, two years back, back when you could get a Palm Pre or a Palm Pixi, on Sprint and only Sprint, the webOS world was rocked by the news that

backups were - a problem for those that had elected to store years of accumulated Contacts, Calendars, Memos, and Tasks in their Palm Profile. Some users were able to get their data restored by Palm going back to their backups of the backups, but others were just plain lost, and the users understandbly upset.

Thus was born the class action lawsuit of Standiford v. Palm, Inc. and Sprint Spectrum, L.P.. The parties involved today announced that they have reached a settlement and will be going before the United States District Court for the Northern District of California for final approval on May 31 of this year (two-and-a-half years after the backup failure was uncovered).

Being that this is a class action suit, you, the webOS smartphone owner, could sign on as a plaintiff. The only criteria you need meet are having created a Palm Profile on a webOS smartphone between 1 June 2009 and 26 January 2012 and having experienced permanent or temporary loss of access to your data stored in your Palm Profile account.

If your claim submission is deemed valid, you could stand to receive a substantial settlement. How substantial? How does up to three Alexander Hamiltons sound? That's right, $30 could be yours. Except it's not a cash settlement, no, that would be too easy. If you suffered a permanent data loss due to a Palm Profile backup failure, you'll be able to choose from a $30 HP Online Store credit (not an App Catalog credit - this is for printer ink or a mouse pad) or a $30 Sprint bill credit. And if your data loss was temporary and you're still seething about it thirty months later, you could get $20 - again for the HP Online Store or your Sprint bill.

The settlement is still pending approval at a fairness hearing, but considering that iPhone users disgruntled over their iPhone 4 antennae performance were offered a bumper case or $15, we'd guess this one's heading for approval. In the end, you get $30 and your contacts are still gone, while the lawyers make out with a briefcase full of cash.

      As the title says, please fix ASAP playback of Profile 7 (FEL/MEL) inside Matroska (.mkv) container.

      On WEB OS 24 it was working with backwards compatibility to HDR10 base layer - in other words the Dolby Vision was omitted.

      Currently in WEBOS 25 the files won't work/play.

      As LG started to support Profile 8 Dolby Vision from WEB OS 25 in MKV properly, this should be easy fix for LG.

      i am having an issue with my LG OLED77C2 tv that started happening (i believe) once i have updated from web24 to 25. It seems like whenever the tv is displaying a source from any of my four HDMI inputs, while i am watching the screen goes black randomly for a few seconds and it loses audio as well during the black screen. Once this happens the audio usually comes back as soon as the image does, however not always. The audio might dissapear completely. In order to fix that i might need to power cycle the tv or unplug the hdmi input out, wait a little and then plug back in. Moreover, sometimes when the black screen flash happens it cripples most of my native apps on the tv. So if i switch to netflix or youtube right after the black screen flash, both apps populate normally all the video/film options in the main menu but when i try to actually play any of the video/films, they dont play and it is throwing an error. These black flashes never happen when i am watching netflix or youtube. Only when using my hdmi inputs. ive changed brand new high quality cables but that did not fix my issue. For the xbox i was already suing an ultra hish speed 2.1 hdmi cable but ive re placed that as well with a brand new one. ive also changed the tvs main board to a brand new and it still happening. Once the dealer changed the board, the tv was behaving normally without the issue. However after a few days i updated the tv to the latest firmware and this started happening. what do i do? 
      FYI: I tried EVERY SINGLE option to troubleshoot the issue. Disabled VRR, AMD Freesync, ALLM, HDMI Deep Colour, SIMPLINK, I basically set my tv to display video and audio in the most archaic way just to troubleshoot. Still doing it. I am using an xbox series x on input 1 and a mag520 box on input 3. Does it on both sources. Moreover, in case this helps whenever this happens while on the xbox the Dolby vision/HDR logo appears on the top right right after the video comes back once the black screen is over depending on what settings i have the xbox on. Also swapped to different inputs. Still doing it

      Collaboration to Deliver Integrated Solutions Combining
      Cooling, Power and IT Infrastructure for AI Data Centers

      SEOUL, Nov. 4, 2025 — LG Electronics (LG) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Flex, a global manufacturing leader and innovator in data center infrastructure solutions. Under the agreement, LG and Flex will collaborate on the joint development integrated, modular cooling solutions that address the escalating thermal management challenges of AI-era data centers.
      Advanced cooling technologies are required for more efficient heat dissipation in high-density data centers. The partnership brings together LG’s high-performance air and liquid cooling modules, including CRAC, CRAH, chillers, coolant distribution units (CDUs) and full suite of thermal management and monitoring solutions with Flex’s liquid cooling portfolio, proprietary power products and IT infrastructure solutions. This gives data center operators the agility to customize solutions and scale with demand.
      LG is actively exploring diverse opportunities to expand its data center business worldwide. In Jakarta, Indonesia, the company recently secured an AI data center project that is set to become one of the largest of its kind in the country. LG is also collaborating with DATAVOLT, a global data center infrastructure provider, on projects in the Middle East and Africa, and has been awarded a contract to supply cooling solutions for a hyperscale data center under construction in North America.
      In addition, LG has partnered with LG Uplus, a telecommunications provider under LG Corp., to successfully complete a proof-of-concept demonstrating advanced liquid cooling technology for data center thermal management solutions. The company is also developing next-generation CDUs and cold plate solutions scheduled for completion later this year, with commercialization to follow.
      Building on its debut at Data Center World (DCW) held in Washington D.C. earlier this year, LG recently showcased its latest cooling technologies at DCW Asia 2025 in Singapore, further accelerating its efforts to expand its presence in the global market.
      “Through our collaboration with LG, Flex now offers customers a complete range of cooling solutions to tackle escalating heat challenges in the data center,” said Michael Hartung, president and Chief Commercial Officer, Flex. “Together, we’ll deliver prefabricated, scalable data center infrastructure solutions that incorporate advanced liquid and air cooling technologies to increase efficiency, simplify deployment and speed time to revenue for our customers.”
      Co-developed solutions will be available as part of the Flex AI infrastructure platform, the first globally manufactured data center platform integrating power, cooling, compute and services into modular designs. Flex provides advanced manufacturing capabilities, innovative power and cooling products and end-to-end lifecycle services that solve for data center power, heat and scale challenges in the AI era.

      SEOUL, Oct. 28, 2025 — LG Electronics (LG) today announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with SK Enmove (SKEN) and Green Revolution Cooling (GRC) to jointly develop and expand next-generation liquid immersion cooling solutions optimized for artificial intelligence data centers (AIDCs). 
      Under the agreement, the three companies will collaborate to explore new business opportunities, conduct joint marketing and deliver proof of concept (PoC) demonstrations for integrated solutions and business models in liquid immersion cooling for AIDCs. 
      SKEN, a leading company in advanced lubricating base oils and premium lubricants, provides next-generation thermal management solutions, including immersion cooling fluids, and is strengthening its global partnerships to foster an immersion cooling ecosystem. In 2022, SKEN became the first company in Korea to develop immersion cooling fluids. Through an equity investment in GRC, SKEN is also leading the way in innovation in the future cooling market, jointly developing data center immersion cooling systems with the company. 
      GRC, headquartered in Texas, is a global leader in immersion cooling solutions. Since launching its industry-first solution in 2009, GRC has been at the forefront of commercializing immersion cooling technology and expanding the market by partnering with leading global IT companies. 
      LG will take the lead in integrating data center cooling systems, providing core components such as coolant distribution units (CDUs), facility water units (FWUs) and chillers. SKEN will supply advanced thermal fluids designed for immersion cooling, while GRC will contribute its expertise in immersion tank system design and deployment. 
      The rapid expansion of the AI industry has created new challenges for data center operators worldwide, who must meet increasing computing demands while improving energy efficiency and complying with stricter sustainability standards.  
      Liquid immersion cooling, which submerges entire servers in a non-conductive fluid, offers a highly efficient alternative to traditional air- or water-based cooling methods. By transferring heat from the servers through a heat exchanger and circulating it via external cooling systems such as air-cooled chillers, the technology can significantly reduce overall energy consumption. 
      Compared with conventional cooling systems, liquid immersion cooling can improve power usage effectiveness (PUE) and enable the stable operation of high-density GPU servers. In addition, the technology enhances heat transfer efficiency and helps reduce potential fire risks, enabling safer and more reliable data center environments. 
      LG plans to expand its liquid cooling PoC at the Pyeongtaek testbed facility by adding an immersion cooling solution, further demonstrating the company’s system performance and integration capabilities. Building on the MOU with SKEN and GRC, LG will also develop an integrated Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) platform, allowing operators to monitor and manage both facility and server systems in real time. 
      “We expect that these three companies, each with their own immersion cooling technology and market experience, will effectively combine their respective strengths to further enhance our competitiveness in the global data center immersion cooling market,” said Nam Jae-in, Head of Green Growth at SK Enmove. “Based on our innovative solutions and strategic partnership, we will lead the growth and transformation of the cooling market.”
