In this final episode of our six-part AI Experience series, we examine the dynamics of the human-AI relationship and what that will mean for the evolution of the technology.

Throughout history, humans have always been masters of the technologies and machines they have created. But with artificial intelligence, the dynamics of this relationship may change. Distinct from other technologies in that it can learn from interactions and usages, AI is perhaps most recognizable today as the virtual assistants we call by name when we want something, whether that be information or the kitchen lights to turn off. As AI continues to evolve, it is expected to outgrow this role as helper to become more of a companion.

AIXRelationship_02.jpg

Even now, AI-enabled devices are able to provide some degree of companionship. For the elderly or others living on their own, products such as smart speakers can offer a valuable sense of connection, responding verbally to queries in more conversational ways. Beyond the comfort of another voice and the feeling of a sympathetic (and synthetic) ear, AI machines can also provide a degree of safety by connecting users to relevant services when needed. If we take that one step further, AI systems will in the future be able to perceive changes in our behavior to determine our moods and respond appropriately, making it easy for humans to forget that they’re still communicating with a machine.

Below, we take a look at five different areas concerning the constantly evolving relationship between humans and AI.

AIXRelationship_03.jpg

Collaboration

Human-AI collaboration is already having an impact on how we perform tasks and make decisions, although its scope is somewhat limited at this time. Once the technology has reached a certain point where we can better understand context, motivation and non-verbal cues, AI will then be able to contribute to genuinely collaborative endeavors, meaningfully helping us to increase our capabilities and knowledge in almost every arena imaginable.

“We are all interesting creatures, not because we exist in a vacuum and we can just think on ourselves, we’re interesting because we interact with others,” said Charles Lee Isbell Jr., dean of computing at Georgia Institute of Technology. “We learn by interacting with others, they get transferred knowledge generation to generation. And I think that is sort of where the sweet spot is around AI.”

AIXRelationship_04.jpg

Learning

Collection of data is crucial to machine learning and its continuing improvement. Going forward, it’s critical that what AI learns should be made as transparent as possible. Experts from a diverse range of disciplines should be actively involved throughout AI’s development to ensure the learning process itself is robust, representative and ethically sound. Learning about AI and its implications is something everyone – not just those directly involved in its creation – should invest time in, as education may help us to predict and avert future challenges and threats.

Professor Zafiroglu of 3A Institute advocates a multidisciplinary approach, urging the next generation of AI practitioners to “go out into the world and work in a variety of settings, from policy and industry to academia and education at the non-university level to think tanks as well as product and strategy teams.” Incorporating different perspectives and learnings into AI will help to forge intelligent systems that can work with, as well as for us.

AIXRelationship_05.jpg

Empathy

Having empathy means the ability to understand and share someone else’s feelings, a distinctly human trait. For AI to be able to detect the emotional state of a user and respond appropriately, it will need the capacity to recognize body language, tone of voice and most probably, physiological changes. Once it can do all of these things, and accurately interpret the demands of the specific context, AI will become immeasurably more helpful. For instance, recognizing an individual’s concern about a job interview, an empathetic AI could help alleviate this concern by generating a list of interview questions, providing feedback on answers or recommending the optimal route to the interview venue.

With the obvious benefits of an AI with high emotional quotient also come considerable risks with regards to privacy so a safety net should be put in place to prevent its misuse. The European Union and many governments worldwide are currently addressing the question of how to ensure effective oversight for high risk AI technologies. At the same time, the companies providing these technologies will need to demonstrate that next to delivering value, user safety is their main concern.

AIXRelationship_06.jpg

Fallibility

As with any relationship, the human-AI relationship will require time and effort to develop properly. Humans must accept that AI will take a certain amount of time to learn from and adapt to their behaviors and preferences and to acquire new skills. Users should also understand that fallibility is not a one way street as AI is learning from them. Users also have to contend with any biases, preconceptions or misconceptions they may have, which can affect the nature or outcome of an interaction.

Whether AI incorporates bias purposefully or not, we must consider the consequential nature of decisions that AI systems are making. Either way, our relationship with AI will be just like our relationship with each other. In other words, it’s going to take time and effort.

AIXRelationship_07.jpg

Interface

The way we interact with an AI solution is directly influenced by the design of its interface. Some forms of AI are more collaborative in nature, requiring frequent human input to deliver maximum value, while others run quietly in the background, automating our lives and supporting us with infrequent interaction. Different types of systems obviously necessitate different kinds of interfaces but it must ultimately be intuitive to use if it is to gain greater acceptance and wider adoption. Along with ease of use, interoperability is something that companies must work towards if AI is to flow seamlessly from one area of our lives to another.

AIXRelationship_08.jpg

“There are no standards of interoperability,” states Gabi Zijdervel, chief marketing officer and head of product strategy at Affectiva. “I believe a consortium of industry will have to come together to solve this, cross-vertical and cross-use cases.”

Although some still fear that AI will replace actual humans, the more likely future is one companionship and partnership. With the foundation already in place, we can look forward to a more equal and rewarding relationship with AI, not to mention a shining new chapter in the history of humankind.

CES Best of Innovation Award Winner Redefines
In-Vehicle Experience Powered by Affectionate Intelligence

SEOUL, Dec. 17, 2025 — LG Electronics (LG) will unveil an immersive experiential space at CES 2026 that brings the company’s future mobility vision to life through Affectionate Intelligence. The exhibit invites visitors to experience firsthand how AI can reshape the driver, front-passenger and rear seating areas, reimagining the whole cabin as a more intuitive and human-centered space designed to enhance every ride.
This new series of solutions has earned the CES 2026 Best of Innovation Award in In-Vehicle Entertainment, marking the first time the LG Vehicle Solution Company has won the category’s top honor. The system brings together cutting-edge display technology, advanced in-cabin sensing, and on-device AI under a comprehensive AI-Defined Vehicle architecture.
The showcase features three core experiential solutions: the Mobility Display Solution, which transforms the windshield into an intelligent interface; the Automotive Vision Solution, which enhances safety and delivers context-aware information to the driver and front passenger via Vision AI; and the In-Vehicle Entertainment Solution, which provides personalized content recommendations, memory-based media and real-time translation.
In the Mobility Display Solution zone, visitors can experience how AI intuitively presents essential information through a transparent OLED-equipped windshield. For example, when approaching a traffic signal, AI displays the remaining wait time above the signal, selectively providing only the most relevant information at that moment. In autonomous driving mode, the system analyzes the surrounding environment and generates corresponding visual scenes: cherry blossom petals flutter across the display on tree-lined roads, while a monotonous tunnel transforms into an enchanting forest, creating an immersive, near-virtual-reality experience.
The Automotive Vision Solution is an advanced in-cabin sensing solution powered by LG’s Automotive Vision System, designed to enhance safety while enabling context-aware, empathetic interactions and personalized content delivery. The solution tracks driver movement, gaze direction, attention, clothing color and gestures in real time, allowing the system to understand and respond to the occupant’s state. Through eye tracking and gesture control, the system expands the range of interest-based information, while anamorphic display graphics heighten immersion and realism. For instance, in autonomous driving mode, if a front-seat passenger looks at an advertisement displayed on a building, gaze recognition can trigger related information on the passenger display, providing seamless product discovery and purchasing.
The In-Vehicle Entertainment Solution delivers personalized entertainment and interactive communication. By recognizing scenery outside the vehicle, AI can display photos linked to past memories associated with that location on the window display. Passengers can share these moments in real time through video calls with family members. During long journeys, AI recommends content tailored to individual tastes, providing entertainment that turns miles into moments. In another scenario, if a restaurant staff member communicates using sign language, AI interprets the gestures into on-screen text to support smooth, two-way communication.
“We are bringing our future mobility vision to life by embedding AI across our solutions – many of which, including in-cabin sensing, are already in production with global OEMs,” said Eun Seok-hyun, president of the LG Vehicle Solution Company. “By accelerating these innovations to market, we aim to pioneer the era of AI-driven vehicles in the years ahead.”
LG AI-Powered In-Vehicle Solutions will be on display at the company’s booth during CES 2026 from January 6-9 (#15004, Las Vegas Convention Center).

Over the past few years, the vehicle cabin has evolved far beyond its traditional role as a functional driving environment. In step with broader mobility trends such as electrification, automation and software-defined intelligence, the car interior has steadily grown into a flexible living space – one capable of supporting a wider range of everyday needs during the journey.
Building on this industry evolution, we at LG are exploring how in-cabin experiences may further develop through our next-generation concept platform, LG P-pod 1.0. This solution combines LG Mobility AI and advanced technologies developed across our Vehicle Solution (VS) Company.
LG P-pod is the new name we’ve given to the digital cockpits that we develop to test advanced mobility innovations before they reach commercialization. The “P” stands for Prototype, highlighting its role as an early-stage concept and a practical testbed for our mobility technologies. The word “pod” refers to the cabin itself – a modular, human-centered space where multiple technologies work together. It also evokes the image of a pea pod, symbolizing how key in-car systems – from the head unit and displays to connectivity solutions and the Advanced Driver-Assistance System (ADAS) Vision System – fit seamlessly within one cohesive environment. At once functional and symbolic, LG P-pod represents a future-oriented yet emotionally resonant design philosophy – where innovation feels intuitive, and the name itself remains simple and memorable.
Let’s take a closer look at how we’re using LG P-pod 1.0 as a test platform to drive in-cabin experience innovation.

      1. Empathetic Interaction: Exploring How Cars Can Understand and Respond
It starts with recognition – a car that sees you, knows you and responds before you even ask. LG P-pod 1.0 serves as a technology incubator, exploring how future vehicles might identify drivers through a Driver Monitoring System (DMS), retrieve schedules or prepare frequently used apps to support more natural interaction.
These foundational technologies help us investigate how vehicles could evolve from simple awareness to context-responsive behavior. The adaptive portrait display shifts orientation for better visibility, while the LG Mobility AI-based voice interface provides a platform for studying more conversational, human-like interactions. Combined with front-camera data and Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) connectivity, the system also enables research into precise stopping points or personalized in-cabin moments – such as lighting, music and animations that respond to special occasions like a birthday or an anniversary.

      2. Personalizing Your Journey: Enabling Mobility to Adapt to Every Individual
While traditional personalization has centered on the driver, LG P-pod 1.0 acts as a technology incubator for extending tailored experiences to all passengers. Powered by the Driver & Interior Monitoring System (DIMS), the platform explores how it can recognize the conditions and preferences of both the driver and passengers in real time, offering tailored entertainment – from OTT services and music to games and apps – instead of mirroring the same content across every screen.
Shared experiences can also be enhanced. Group decisions, like choosing a restaurant, can be made through an on-screen voting feature that syncs results across displays. An AI recommendation engine suggests destinations, routes and entertainment based on contextual information. With profiles that follow each user and settings that activate automatically, LG P-pod 1.0 turns the car into a space where every passenger’s journey feels personal – whether it lasts ten minutes or two hours.

      3. Expanding Time and Space: Shaping How Life Can Continue Seamlessly on the Road
LG P-pod 1.0 reimagines the vehicle not as an isolated environment but as a lifestyle enabler that helps explore new forms of seamless connectivity. Through the Smart Telematics System and integration with smart home appliances, it serves as a platform for exploring how users might control home devices from inside the car – including air conditioning, lighting, robot vacuums and even pet feeders. Through real-time data exchange, the system also investigates ways to enable remote awareness of home cameras and sensors, helping to keep the home and vehicle connected and offering greater peace of mind while on the road.
This seamless connection extends to entertainment as well. Videos or music started at home can resume playing inside the vehicle, making the cabin a natural extension of each user’s personal environment. By reducing the boundary between “on the road” and “at home,” LG P-pod 1.0 acts as a platform for experimenting with new connected-life experiences where travel time becomes an uninterrupted part of everyday living.
“By leveraging LG P-pod 1.0 as an incubator for LG’s mobility technologies, we’re taking a meaningful step toward our vision of a ‘Living Space on Wheels,’ where the vehicle becomes a personalized environment that supports every part of your lifestyle,” said Alexio Rhee, head of Global Customer Strategy at the LG Electronics VS Company. “By combining empathetic interaction, multi-profile personalization and seamless connectivity between the car and the home, LG is redefining what the in-cabin experience can be.”
We’re unveiling LG P-pod 1.0 to a global audience as part of our “LG on board” mobility campaign, sharing how elements such as intelligent understanding, personalized adaptation and immersive interaction may shape future in-car experiences. Through a series of stories – beginning with the first core value, “Empathetic Interaction,” revealed on December 15 and followed by additional values later in the month – we aim to offer a glimpse into a more meaningful way of experiencing life on the move.
