AI-Ethics-01.jpg

In the second episode of the AI Experience series, we delve into the role of ethics in the evolution of artificial intelligence.

The benefits of AI notwithstanding, there continues to exist concerns about the ethical implications of a technology that could potentially know more about its users than they do about themselves. And for as long as there have been intelligent machines, there have been skepticism and distrust. While some of this wariness could be traced back to the way artificial intelligence has been portrayed in science fiction books and movies, it’s no exaggeration to say that suspicion toward such technology is widespread. In fact, the late Stephen Hawking once said, “The development of full artificial intelligence could spell the end of the human race. It would take off on its own, and re-design itself at an ever-increasing rate.”

To prevent such scenarios from ever coming true, the European Union recently put into place regulations to ensure that “good ethics” are built into all AI technologies. Regarding the new guidelines, executive vice president of the European Commission for A Europe Fit for the Digital Age, said, “With these landmark rules, the EU is spearheading the development of new global norms to make sure AI can be trusted.”1

AI-Ethics-03.jpg

Before we delve into ethical AI, it is important to understand how AI learns – and what (and whom) it is learning from – in the first place. Because AI gains insight from data collected from existing societal structures and based on parameters set by human beings – such as researchers and developers – and the companies they work for, it is enevitable that the technology will reflect at least some of the biases, tendencies and preconceptions that exist within those separate but intimately related elements.

AI-Ethics-04.png

“Human centric means to take into consideration the human aspect of how the tools are going to be used, for what purpose, and what’s the consequence for humans who use the tool,” said Yoshua Bengio, 2019 Turing Award-winning AI researcher and founder of Mila (originally Montreal Institute for Learned Algorithms). “It’s important because those tools are becoming more and more powerful, and the more powerful the tool is, the more we need to be careful about how to use it.”

So now let’s take a look at five areas that are integral to the ethical development and use of AI, moving forward: inclusivity, values, governance, data privacy and purpose.

 AI-Ethics-05.jpg

Inclusivity
Acknowledging and factoring in diversity is central to producing AI systems that meet the needs of a diverse global population. However, a study published by in 2019 concluded that there is an alarming lack of diversity in the AI field and that this is perpetuating all kinds of gender, race and religious biases.2

In response to this state of affairs, groups such as the African Institute for Mathematical Science, which launched courses to train young Africans in machine learning and its application to diversify the talent pipeline, are calling for initiatives to achieve a more equitable future for AI. But more consistent and far-reaching efforts are needed if there is to be better cultural and gender representation in the lab and in the industry.

AI-Ethics-06.jpg

“If you don’t have diversity among the people who are doing the designing and the people doing the testing, the people who are involved in the process, then you’re all guaranteed to have a narrow solution,” says Charles Isbell, dean of computing at Georgia Tech and a strong advocate for increasing access to and diversity in higher education.

Values
To a great extent, the values of a nation determines the philosophy behind a country’s AI development. The decoupling of technology in such countries is often made on ethical grounds rooted in fundamental differences in ideologies and values. For example, there is wide disparity in how far governments can intrude upon people’s private lives from country to country.

To alleviate this, private entities should consider universal human values when designing AI systems and be responsible for their products that strongly impact society.

AI-Ethics-07.png

“That’s why it’s not just about maximizing their profits… but taking the responsibility, in the way that the action will have an impact on society,” explains Dr. Yuko Harayama of Japanese scientific research institute, RIKEN, and former executive member of Japan’s Council for Science, Technology and Innovation Cabinet Office. “It’s up to us because we are all human beings and that means you are responsible for your action, including your action within your company.”

Governance
According to a list of 20 AI-enabled crimes put together by researchers at University College London, the biggest threat to civil order comes not from the technology itself, but from humans using it to their own illegal ends. Using driverless vehicles as weapons was among the possible crimes presented in the study.

Historically it has been the role of governments to ensure public safety through regulation and oversight but with AI, lawmakers are faced with the difficulty of legislating a technology that is constantly evolving and challenging to comprehend. Rather than leaving this matter exclusively in the hands of the government, a broad, interdisciplinary effort is required so that any legislation encompasses a wider range of viewpoints and is built on a deeper fundamental understanding of AI.

 AI-Ethics-08.jpg

Data Privacy
AI systems for consumers have relatively few safeguards compared to those designed for industrial or military use, making them more susceptible to personal data breaches or misuse. This is why fostering trust is so important when it comes to human-centric AI systems – trust that users’ data is safe and protected and that it isn’t being used for purposes without owner consent.

AI-Ethics-09.png

“I think the biggest things we need to consider is what data is being collected, who is collecting it, where it is staying, and how it is being used and reused,” said Alex Zafiroglu, deputy director at the 3A Institute of The Australian National University, emphasizing the need for transparency in the use and collection of data for consumer AI solutions.

Purpose
To deliver relevant services and maximum convenience, AI-based systems require users to share certain pieces of personal data. The more personalized the experience provided, the more private data the user has to share.

AI-Ethics-10.jpg

It is critical, then, that the purpose for which this data is used is clearly defined at the outset, and strictly adhered to by the service providers and manufacturers concerned. If AI only employs collected data for a stated purpose, end users would feel less concerned sharing their personal information. This would enable intelligent products and services to deliver more value and the companies that produce them to better fine-tune their offerings.

AI-Ethics-11.jpg

As its presence and uses continue to expand in all areas of life, artificial intelligence presents human society with the potential for incredible advancement. While significant risks exist, these can be effectively mitigated by making ethics the center of all AI development.

When in an app, hitting home on the remote doesn't do anything. I was looking to see if there's a webOS update available, and now I see trying to open settings locks it all up. The only way to get out of an app right now or get it out of the state where trying settings locks it up is to power off and back on again.
      Things I've tried:
      1. Restart. I've tried various ways including unplugging and holding the power button on the TV for a while. I left it unplugged all night.
      2. Repair of the remote.
I don't know what else to try as I can't even get into settings to see if there's an update to fix this mess. Any thoughts?

Over the past few years, the vehicle cabin has evolved far beyond its traditional role as a functional driving environment. In step with broader mobility trends such as electrification, automation and software-defined intelligence, the car interior has steadily grown into a flexible living space – one capable of supporting a wider range of everyday needs during the journey.
Building on this industry evolution, we at LG are exploring how in-cabin experiences may further develop through our next-generation concept platform, LG P-pod 1.0. This solution combines LG Mobility AI and advanced technologies developed across our Vehicle Solution (VS) Company.
LG P-pod is the new name we’ve given to the digital cockpits that we develop to test advanced mobility innovations before they reach commercialization. The “P” stands for Prototype, highlighting its role as an early-stage concept and a practical testbed for our mobility technologies. The word “pod” refers to the cabin itself – a modular, human-centered space where multiple technologies work together. It also evokes the image of a pea pod, symbolizing how key in-car systems – from the head unit and displays to connectivity solutions and the Advanced Driver-Assistance System (ADAS) Vision System – fit seamlessly within one cohesive environment. At once functional and symbolic, LG P-pod represents a future-oriented yet emotionally resonant design philosophy – where innovation feels intuitive, and the name itself remains simple and memorable.
Let’s take a closer look at how we’re using LG P-pod 1.0 as a test platform to drive in-cabin experience innovation.

      1. Empathetic Interaction: Exploring How Cars Can Understand and Respond
It starts with recognition – a car that sees you, knows you and responds before you even ask. LG P-pod 1.0 serves as a technology incubator, exploring how future vehicles might identify drivers through a Driver Monitoring System (DMS), retrieve schedules or prepare frequently used apps to support more natural interaction.
These foundational technologies help us investigate how vehicles could evolve from simple awareness to context-responsive behavior. The adaptive portrait display shifts orientation for better visibility, while the LG Mobility AI-based voice interface provides a platform for studying more conversational, human-like interactions. Combined with front-camera data and Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) connectivity, the system also enables research into precise stopping points or personalized in-cabin moments – such as lighting, music and animations that respond to special occasions like a birthday or an anniversary.

      2. Personalizing Your Journey: Enabling Mobility to Adapt to Every Individual
While traditional personalization has centered on the driver, LG P-pod 1.0 acts as a technology incubator for extending tailored experiences to all passengers. Powered by the Driver & Interior Monitoring System (DIMS), the platform explores how it can recognize the conditions and preferences of both the driver and passengers in real time, offering tailored entertainment – from OTT services and music to games and apps – instead of mirroring the same content across every screen.
Shared experiences can also be enhanced. Group decisions, like choosing a restaurant, can be made through an on-screen voting feature that syncs results across displays. An AI recommendation engine suggests destinations, routes and entertainment based on contextual information. With profiles that follow each user and settings that activate automatically, LG P-pod 1.0 turns the car into a space where every passenger’s journey feels personal – whether it lasts ten minutes or two hours.

      3. Expanding Time and Space: Shaping How Life Can Continue Seamlessly on the Road
LG P-pod 1.0 reimagines the vehicle not as an isolated environment but as a lifestyle enabler that helps explore new forms of seamless connectivity. Through the Smart Telematics System and integration with smart home appliances, it serves as a platform for exploring how users might control home devices from inside the car – including air conditioning, lighting, robot vacuums and even pet feeders. Through real-time data exchange, the system also investigates ways to enable remote awareness of home cameras and sensors, helping to keep the home and vehicle connected and offering greater peace of mind while on the road.
This seamless connection extends to entertainment as well. Videos or music started at home can resume playing inside the vehicle, making the cabin a natural extension of each user’s personal environment. By reducing the boundary between “on the road” and “at home,” LG P-pod 1.0 acts as a platform for experimenting with new connected-life experiences where travel time becomes an uninterrupted part of everyday living.
“By leveraging LG P-pod 1.0 as an incubator for LG’s mobility technologies, we’re taking a meaningful step toward our vision of a ‘Living Space on Wheels,’ where the vehicle becomes a personalized environment that supports every part of your lifestyle,” said Alexio Rhee, head of Global Customer Strategy at the LG Electronics VS Company. “By combining empathetic interaction, multi-profile personalization and seamless connectivity between the car and the home, LG is redefining what the in-cabin experience can be.”
We’re unveiling LG P-pod 1.0 to a global audience as part of our “LG on board” mobility campaign, sharing how elements such as intelligent understanding, personalized adaptation and immersive interaction may shape future in-car experiences. Through a series of stories – beginning with the first core value, “Empathetic Interaction,” revealed on December 15 and followed by additional values later in the month – we aim to offer a glimpse into a more meaningful way of experiencing life on the move.

Television has long been a canvas for visual storytelling, but today it has evolved into something far more immersive. At LG, we’re redefining what a TV can be – transforming the screen into a seamless platform for art, creativity and personal expression.
This transformation is first and foremost enabled by LG TV’s unrivaled picture quality. With LG OLED’s self-lit pixels delivering perfect blacks and infinite contrast, our displays provide the ultimate digital canvas, capable of reproducing the most delicate textures and vibrant colors exactly as the artist intended.
Building on this visual excellence are LG’s True Wireless technology and LG Gallery+, our new visual curation service available on every 2025 LG TV in more than 150 countries. Together, they turn the TV into a wall-mounted masterpiece, blending effortlessly into any space while giving users direct access to world-class art.
Perhaps the most compelling expression of this idea is the LG SIGNATURE OLED T, a 77-inch transparent display that pairs ultra-sharp 4K OLED picture quality with complete wireless freedom through LG’s proprietary True Wireless technology. The product recently earned a Best of Innovation Award from the Consumer Technology Association ahead of CES 2026, and it reflects a growing shift: TVs are becoming part of interior design as well as a medium for creative expression.
A World of Art Where You Are
Built on the award-winning webOS platform, LG Gallery+ offers more than 4,500 curated image and video content ranging from timeless classics to modern artwork, gaming landscapes and personal photo uploads. With adaptive smart features and personalization options, it lets users instantly reshape the atmosphere of a room – whether setting a mood for a celebration or enjoying a quiet Sunday morning.
LG’s collaboration with the National Gallery in London brings iconic works from internationally recognized artists into the home through LG Gallery+. The service continues to grow, offering a unique way for people to explore, curate and enjoy art in everyday life – such as starting the day bathed in the vivid colors of Van Gogh’s A Wheatfield.

True Wireless Clears the Way for TV’s Future
When paired with True Wireless technology, LG Gallery+ becomes even more powerful. By relocating connections to the discreet Zero Connect Box, the wireless technology removes visible cables and frees the TV from traditional placement restrictions. The result is pristine wall-mounted installation that is reminiscent of a home gallery, available in both the ultra-premium LG OLED evo M5 and the more accessible LG QNED9M from the QNED evo lineup.
A wireless TV alone may still appear as a giant black screen when inactive – but with LG Gallery+, it becomes a living canvas that enhances the space even when not in use.
What to Look for in a Digital Canvas
Art deserves technologies that preserve every detail. LG’s 2025 OLED evo models deliver perfect blacks, brilliant colors and exceptional brightness – ideal for displaying rich textures and subtle tonal transitions. AI-powered picture optimization analyzes more than 1.6 billion image settings, tailoring display modes for each viewer and environment.
For creators, features like Dynamic Tone Mapping Professional offer precise control over HDR10 content, enabling professional-level calibration across lighting conditions and supporting more immersive digital art experiences.
QNED evo Makes Colors Pop for More People
For those seeking a wider range of options, LG QNED evo TVs bring many OLED-inspired innovations to a broader audience. Featuring Mini LED technology powered by the Alpha AI processor, QNED evo offers enhanced contrast and accuracy in images to ensure deeper blacks, brighter highlights and well-balanced picture quality. With Dynamic QNED Color solution that offer outstanding depth, clarity and precision, QNED evo delivers striking realism in both bright and dark spaces. Available from 50 to 100 inches, the lineup balances versatility and performance – ideal for gaming, movies, sports and digital art alike.
Choose the Canvas That Fits Your Life
Whether it’s LG SIGNATURE OLED, OLED evo or QNED evo, each model offers a path to experiencing art and content in new ways. True Wireless opens spaces. LG Gallery+ fills them with meaning. Together, they invite users into a more creative, personal and beautifully connected world.
