PreCentral: Export your contacts via Command Line (homebrew)

Recommended Posts

Export contactsYou always want to make sure that you have a backup of your critical data that you keep on your smartphone or tablet, and your contact list should be towards the top of your priority list when to comes to ensuring you have recent backup. If you use cloud-based synergy accounts for your contacts like Google Contacts, Facebook or Yahoo, you are probably less worried about having a backup since you can always go back to the source data and pull it down again. But if you use the Palm Profile or a different "local" account for your contact data, the only way to access your data is on the device itself. If that device gets lost or your backup gets corrupted, you run the risk of forever losing that data.  There are a few methods that you have to back up your contracts, with the easiest being just dialing a simple code into the phone dialer to create a .vcf (VCard or "Virtual Business Card")

In order to perform the steps above, though, you need a working touchscreen to activate a few of the on-screen buttons. So what happens if your screen is cracked or the touchscreen in unresponsive?  Thanks to webOS forum member gizmo21 we now have the ability to export your contacts via command line so you can just plug your device into a computer to export your contacts. One prerequisite for this process is that your device must already be in Developer Mode, as explained in our guide to Getting Started: Homebrew Apps, Patches, and Themes with WebOS Quick Install

Once your device is in Developer mode, just plug it in to your computer. If you have the webOS SDK installed, you can directly open up a Linux Command Prompt, but an easy way to do that is to open up WebOS Quick Install and select "Tools" and then "Linux Commandline". Once the command prompt appears, type in the follow command, depending on your webOS version.

    • Question: Data Cap and Stream Quality

Ive lived in a city my whole life, and just moved to a rural area that has 6x more expensive internet that is 4x slower and has low 50gb monthly data cap... thanks VIASAT AND HUGHES NET! Anyway, I think i may get me a lg uk6200, mainly cause low input lag, and hopefully I THINK its the 6300 without the stupid slimAI, and bluetooth features... hopefully.. I ask, with the amazon, netflix, hulu app, and youtube app, Can i set the data rate to SD or lower. I simply cannot use 720 or 1080, or by god 4k or i will hit my cap limit in probably a few days. or hours lol.   I used to love my palm pixi and hopefully the webos evolved a bit to accomodate the world that has data caps. It would be nice to hear someone who knows the question... otherwise I will probably have to buy a roku for that functionality

    • Question: programming a recording without the online list

Hello, for some reason, in the region where I live (Friuli, near Venice, Italy) the Main TV Provider (RAI) does not transmit the program plan for its channels.... while all the others do... Unfortunately I'm specially interested in recording RAI events, because I'm at work when they go on air.... I own a LG 43UJ70V1 since 10 days, in absence of the program list I did not find a way to program a recording  from RAI.... I'm quite disappointed because  I was sure (and still I am)  there must be a way to plan a recording by knowing the channel, the start date/time and the stop date/time or duration... but I couldn't find it.. I saw this feature in many 15-years-old TV sets, I can't believe it's no more in this super hi-tech expensive thing... As an alternative, is it possible to download the list from the internet??    this is also a feature that was already working in 15 years ago TV's. is there any app in the LG store to work out of this? thankyou

    • Preserve custom program list after retune

When retuning the TV program list, the "smart" option is supposed to preserve customisations made to the list.  However I find that, while locked and skipped channels are preserved, any changes I've made to the channel numbers are restored to their original defaults. This is highly frustrating as I have moved BBC 1 HD (101), for example, to channel 1 where its non-HD equivalent was, but after a rescan they move back to their original places.
Please allow the preservation of custom lists when retuning.  Perhaps if a conflict occurs when a new channel is found, ask the user which channel they would like to occupy that slot.

    • Question: How do you use the Favorites channel list for cable?

So I set up favorites for cable.  How do I USE them with the magic remote?  When I'm watching cable, and I click on the scroll wheel, there aren't any choices to "goto favorites" or anything like that.  How do I invoke the favorites that I created?
