PreCentral: Add an ebook to your device with pReader

add ebook to pReaderOne of the benefits of modern technology is that you almost always have your smartphone with you, especially when you are away from home. In addition to being able to do things like accessing your email or carry around your entire music library, photos and videos of the kids, and a few games to keep you entertained, your smartphone can also play the roll of personal library with your books available for whenever you want to read.

Although we did see a beta release of a on the TouchPad, what happens if you want to load up an ebook that you were able to download from elsewhere onto your webOS device? Say, for example, if the editor of your favorite webOS site were to go full nerd and released a free full-length Star Trek fan fiction novel titled ; how would you load that on to your webOS device?

One solution is to download or the on to any webOS device - from the original Palm Pre to the HP TouchPad. pReader, by MHWSoft, will allow you to load up any plain-text, HTML, PalmDOC, MobiPocket (mobi), eReader (pdb), ePub, or Amazon (azw) ebook, plus any DRM-protected .mobi or .pdb file, onto your device for you to read. Note that Amazon and ePub DRM aren't currently supported. You just need to copy the ebook file on to and follow these directions:

  1. Open pReader
  2. Tap the "Add Book to Library" button from the app's homepage.
  3. You can choose a specific ebook file type or choose "All" to get a listing of compatible files on your device.
  4. Find the book you want to add and tap on it
  5. The file will be loaded into the app and then appear in the LIBRARY of ebooks.

Once you have a book added to the Library, just tap on it to open up the book. While pReader may not be the most visually stunning app and does not support things like cover photos of books, it does have a myriad of preferences that allow you to customize your reading experience. You can change the background color, text size and font, method to advance the page and more by accessing the Preferences section of the app by from the top-left corner of the screen and selecting "Preferences" from the dropdown.

One additional action you may want to make is to change the encoding that determines how the text is displayed on the screen. If you are seeing a lot of additional odd characters at the ends of paragraphs or in random places, try choosing "Change Encoding" from that dropdown menu and select "UFT-8" encoding.

Interestingly, because pReader supports text and html files, this app does not need to be limited to just viewing ebooks. pReader also allow you to view (but not edit) any local text file on your device. Please note that although the app support html files, it will only display the text portions of those files and does not support things like embedded links.

is available for free in the webOS App Catalog or Preware and is compatible with all webOS devices running webOS 1.4.5 or higher.

I can stream ABC content using either the iView app on our LG G1 65" OLED, or via the iView Android TV app that is installed on a Chromecast with Google TV that is plugged into one of the G1 HDMI ports. If I stream content using the app on the TV, every few minutes there's a momentary (fraction of a second) interruption to both sound and video. If I stream the same content using the app on the Chromecast, I get no such interruptions. Both TV and Chromecast are using wired Ethernet connections to the same switch, so I can't see that these interruptions are due to a network problem, or I'd see them on both devices. It would seem to be a problem with the app provided on the TV. Other streaming services that we access via apps on the TV (Netflix, Stan, Amazon Prime, etc) do not show the same problem.

Sling TV is my default app on my LG TV.   Everything  was working fine until today.  Now when I hit the HOME button on the remote, the TV correctly returns to the HOME page, but then immediately re-launches Sling TV before I have an opportunity to select a different app (for example, Netflix).   This cycle repeats itself every time I enter HOME while in the Sling TV app.  The only way I can return to HOME without Sling TV automatically relaunching is to manually select a different input (e.g., HDMI one or LIVE Team), and then enter HOME and it will correctly stay in HOME until another app is selected.  I've tried resetting the TV  and I've tried deleting/adding Sling TV.  I have the latest WebOS update.  This may have started after downloading a recent Sling TV app?  Not sure.  Any suggestions appreciated.

I just bought a lg b7 oled and have a problem. I dont subscribe to cable so I wont ever be using it on this tv. Every time I start the tv it loads the OS and the cable-less static comes on the screen and BLASTS through the speakers. The tiles for netflix, hulu, etc are at the bottom so I choose one of those. How do I stop the tv from defaulting to turning on the "tv" that clearly doesnt exist? Ive tried deleting the tile for live tv, and even moving it to the far right side but still every time I turn n the tv - static with the menu on the bottom.

I just bought a OLEDG177PUA with what I assume is webos 6.  Why is there not a setting available for me to set the default home screen.... to the home screen?  I am constantly ending up on some random live LG TV channel, and having to wrestle it to go "back" to "home" by pressing the home button over and over.  At the very least let me easily switch to a gallery picture as a home screen option.  It's a gallery TV after all is it not?
I haven't watched live TV since 2003. With all the app options on the home screen now, why on earth would I need to start now? Please enable a way to make live TV stop being the default. It was bad enough that I had to endure a static screen to constantly wrestle back out of to get to the home screen, but I'm not sure what's worse, static or Ancient Aliens. 🙄

Also explain HBO Max. How do you guys have ancient aliens but not HBO Max?

      Hello,

I am trying to watch NBA matches at my TV, and i have nba pass subsrciption. It appears that my country is not eligible and there is no nba app at the lg store.
When i login to my account through the webos broswer , when i try to watch a game, i get the message "download the app", and the link takes me to other apple store.
I tried to watch through airplay (either from my macbook or my iphone), but when i connect to airplay, the screen gets black. I guess that is something with nba sharing rights etc, because with other apps it works fine.

has anybody find any solution to this?
