SEOUL, Apr. 16, 2024 — LG Electronics (LG) continues to receive recognition for its steadfast commitment to sustainability and eco-conscious practices. LG 2024 OLED evo TVs achieved Reducing CO21 and Measured CO22 certifications from the Carbon Trust3 and Environmentally Evaluated Mark4 from Société Générale de Surveillance SA (SGS), marking the fourth consecutive year of consistent acknowledgement for LG’s ESG initiatives. LG’s newest OLED TVs have also earned their second successive Recycled Content certification5, further demonstrating LG’s sense of environmental responsibility.

The Carbon Trust works to usher the globe into a future of zero carbon emission by assessing the environmental impact of a product’s entire life cycle, from production and distribution to use and disposal. SGS certification focuses on resource efficiency and the presence of hazardous substances, while Intertek measures the percentage of recycled materials used. The organizations’ respective approaches promote responsible consumption practices across diverse industries and contribute to the broader goal of sustainability worldwide.

Notably, the self-lit nature of LG OLED TVs garners significant attention in stringent sustainability evaluations. Unlike LCD TVs, LG OLED TVs do not require a backlight, meaning a simpler structure and fewer necessary components. For instance, LG’s 65-inch OLED evo, made of ultra-light composite fiber, requires only 40 percent of the plastic typically used in an LCD TV of the same size screen and weighs 20 percent less.

Based on the estimated sales of LG OLED TVs this year, the total amount of plastic used in LG OLED TVs from 2022 to 2024 is expected to be 45,000 tons lower than that of LCD TVs sold during the same period. The reduction in plastic usage will lead to a decrease in carbon emissions of approximately 234,000 tons a year, equivalent to the carbon dioxide absorbed by a 30-year-old pine forest. This number translates to one-third of the area of Seoul or about 31,000 soccer fields.

Recycled plastics account for about 20 percent of the plastic used in the manufacturing of all LG TVs, including OLED TVs, equal to around 4,000 tons of recycled waste plastic annually.

Beyond environmental activities, LG’s various ESG initiatives have received praise from reputable domestic and international organizations. In 2023, LG was named in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World) for the twelfth year in a row. The DJSI World ranks in the top ten percent of the largest 2,500 global companies based on their long-term economic, environmental, social and governance practices. The company’s inclusion on this prestigious list for twelve consecutive years is a significant milestone, as LG is the sole South Korean company in the Leisure Equipment & Products and Consumer Electronics industry category to achieve this feat.

Furthermore, LG has received the ‘Comprehensive A grade’ from the ESG Evaluation and Rating Announcement of Korea ESG Standards Institute (KCGS) for three years running, and last year, the company earned its fourth back-to-back ‘A’ rating from the Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI) ESG Rating.

“LG OLED TVs lead the market as the ultimate choice for premium viewing experiences, while also going beyond to set the bar for ESG standards,” said Baik Seon-pill, leader of the LG Home Entertainment Company’s Product Planning Division. “LG will remain devoted to continuing efforts toward creating a better planet for all.”

      Hi!

I own a OLED65C8PUA 65-Inch 4K Ultra HD Smart OLED TV and it seems to be suddenly freezing when a commercial starts on a LG channel. I've unplugged the TV, hold down the start button, restarted to clean out the cache. I even restarted the whole system where it deletes most of the apps and all your picture and internet settings. Still getting this freeze during ADS between the LG channel presentations (be it the 80's, 90's, Love Boat channels, etc.) Anyone else have this problem? I'm kind of at a loss of what to do next.

Hai Phong Plant Achieves TÜV Rheinland CSMS Level 3 Certification

SEOUL, Aug. 20, 2025 — LG Electronics (LG), a leading innovator in mobility technology, today announced that its Hai Phong manufacturing facility in Vietnam – the company’s largest production hub for vehicle components – has earned Cyber Security Management System (CSMS) Level 3 certification from TÜV Rheinland, a global testing and certification agency. The certification ceremony was held on August 19 (local time) at the Hai Phong plant.
CSMS is an internationally recognized framework that assesses whether cybersecurity processes are systematically applied across the entire lifecycle of vehicles and automotive components, from planning and development to production, operation and post-production management.
Hai Phong is the first facility in the world, among TÜV Rheinland-certified cases, to be awarded both CSMS Level 2 and Level 3 certifications simultaneously. This achievement extends the CSMS Level 3 certification previously awarded to LG Vehicle Solution (VS) Company’s management system, validating Hai Phong’s ability to apply rigorous cybersecurity measures in mass production.
As LG VS Company’s largest vehicle component manufacturing site, Hai Phong produces the majority of products supplied to major global automakers. By establishing and applying advanced cybersecurity management systems at the facility, LG VS Company has reinforced its position as an industry leader in protecting automotive components from emerging digital threats.
The need for robust cybersecurity at both key administrative and production facilities has become essential amid the industry-wide shift toward Software Defined Vehicles (SDVs). Cybersecurity risks during manufacturing are increasing, making it critical for suppliers to implement strong, standardized safeguards.
Global regulatory requirements reiterate this urgency. The UNECE R155 regulation, implemented in 2021 and adopted by the European Union and 56 countries across Asia, Oceania and Africa, mandates that vehicles be certified with a CSMS before entering the market. Since July 2024, only vehicles meeting this requirement have been allowed in these markets, with the U.S. and China also tightening their automotive cybersecurity regulations.
LG has steadily strengthened cybersecurity across all areas of LG VS Company. At the corporate administrative level, LG achieved CSMS Level 2 certification in 2023 and Level 3 certification last year. With Hai Phong now Level 3 certified, the company plans to pursue certification for its other major manufacturing facilities.
In 2024, LG also earned the Automotive SPICE for Cybersecurity certification, a standard developed by European OEMs to evaluate the cybersecurity and software reliability of automotive component suppliers. Major U.S. automakers, including General Motors and Ford, are now adopting this standard for supplier assessments as well.
“Internationally recognized cybersecurity certifications such as CSMS Level 3 strengthen our position as a trusted partner to global automakers,” said Eun Seok-hyun, president of the LG VS Company. “Through an unmatched commitment to security and quality, LG will continue to enhance its leadership in the automotive components market.”

Is it really possible for a TV in a bright living room to re-create what you see in a dark theater? With LG’s 2025 OLED, that translation may now be closer than ever.
Over the past few years, LG has worked closely with Hollywood filmmakers to develop the ultimate display experience for cinematic viewing. As part of that initiative, the LG OLED Hollywood Roadshow, which debuted last year, made its second appearance in Los Angeles in May.
Photo credit: link hidden, please login to view
Held at Picture Shop, a high-profile post-production company on Sunset Boulevard, the event attracted filmmakers, colorists and cinematographers eager to explore how LG’s OLED technology, including the latest LG OLED evo AI G5(Link Embedded) model, translates creative intent to home viewing environments.
“As a cinematographer, I deeply appreciate the boosted brightness and richer, more nuanced blacks of the LG OLED evo AI G5. It’s incredibly satisfying,” cinematographer Rachel Morrison says of the LG OLED evo AI G5, which offers more than three times the peak brightness of standard OLED TVs while maintaining perfect blacks. (LG is the first manufacturer to receive Perfect Black verification from UL Solutions, a global authority in product testing and certification.) LG also earned the highest “perfect” grade from TÜV Rheinland for indoor lighting image quality certification — an evaluation that confirmed the display’s ability to maintain top-tier picture quality not only in dark settings, but also in bright indoor spaces (Certified models: 65-inch M5/G5/C5/B5).
Building on this commitment to consistent image quality across lighting environments, a major result of LG’s collaboration with Hollywood professionals is Ambient Light Compensation, designed to enhance filmmaker-mode accuracy. Since films are typically mastered in dark environments, but viewed in various lighting, this feature automatically adjusts brightness and color to preserve the filmmaker’s vision. The algorithm behind Ambient Light Compensation was designed in collaboration with two Hollywood veterans: colorist John Daro, known for his work on “Kimi” and “Contagion,” and Michael Smith, a technical consultant.

To calibrate HDR tone mapping for different lighting, Daro tested starting from a pitch-dark 5-nit baseline. “The goal was to ensure the image holds up, even in a sunlit room. Viewers shouldn’t have to dim the lights or close the blinds,” he says.
“Light sensors in the TV detect room brightness and the algorithm adjusts luminance accordingly,” Smith explains. “Whether it’s day or night, the content stays faithful to the filmmaker’s intent.”
Colorist Peter Doyle was also impressed. “Ambient Light Compensation is a game changer. It lets viewers experience the subtleties we labor over in a post-production facility, regardless of their lighting environment.”

As home viewing becomes the new norm, filmmakers are increasingly interested in display tech that preserves artistic integrity. Below is a recap of conversations with two filmmakers at the LG OLED Hollywood Roadshow.
How was your experience with LG OLED at the LG OLED Hollywood Roadshow?
It was great to see a panel that audiences will use in their own homes — up close and in action. LG OLED handles black levels and reflections impressively. The Ambient Light Compensation feature stood out, especially its responsiveness to lighting changes.
Peter Doyle, colorist for “Inside Llewyn Davis” and the “Harry Potter” series (Photo credit: )
What feature of LG OLED do you think will most impact viewers?
The consistency of its blacks. In the “Harry Potter” series, for instance, many nighttime scenes are lit only by candlelight, with students dressed in black robes. In those cases, it’s no exaggeration to say the entire scene hinges on how black and shadows are rendered. Black isn’t just a background, it’s almost a character of its own. It grounds the frame and reveals nuance in the shadows. If a panel fails to express those subtleties, all the audience sees is a flat mass of darkness. There’s a saying: Everything comes down to black and shadow detail. And with LG OLED, the gradation of black, the softness and depth, is truly impressive.
What was your first impression of LG OLED Hollywood Roadshow?
The LG OLED evo AI G5 immediately stood out with its superior contrast and black levels. I was especially drawn to filmmaker mode, which aligns with how directors and DPs intend their work to be seen. And it disables motion smoothing, which is a nightmare for filmmakers.
Rachel Morrison, cinematographer of “Black Panther” and “Mudbound” (Photo credit: )
Both “Black Panther” and “Mudbound” contain many dark scenes. What advantages do you think LG OLED offers when watching those films?
In “Black Panther,” the costumes feature layered textures and subtle differences in black tones. That complexity needs to come through without compromising skin tones. Displays like LG OLED preserve richness, detail, and accuracy within the blacks. In “Mudbound,” capturing the contrast between harsh daylight and moonlit nights was essential because I wanted to capture the stark contrast between what it meant to live in the American South as a white person versus a Black person. Without a display that expresses such nuance, much of the film’s meaning could be lost. LG OLED allows viewers to fully experience the world we built.
Peak brightness is 3X brighter than LG OLED B5 @10% window by Internal measurements. In November 2024, LG’s entire 2025 OLED lineup (based on display modules) received certification from UL (certification number V183632) for achieving black levels below 0.24 nits in environments up to 500 lux. Actual performance may vary depending on viewing conditions Ready to see movies the way directors intended — with every shadow, color and detail?
Click and let LG OLED evo AI G5 show you how. For more immersive movie watching experience, visit the .
This story was edited from an advertorial feature article published on by Bae Dongmi with photography by Ha Jin-kyung. This interview was conducted following attendance at the LG Electronics-hosted Hollywood Roadshow event in L.A. (LG OLED evo AI G5 showcase).
