Palm veteran Fred Patton takes the reins of webOS Developer Relations

Nearly five months ago HP VP of webOS Developer Relations Richard Kerris

for , just eight months after he was . Granted, in those eight months at HP, so we can't blame him for looking to the greener pastures of Nokia's Sunnyvale office. But it's been nearly half a year since Kerris left, with nobody stepping in to fill the void. Until now - today the HP webOS Developer Center made the stealth announcement of Palm veteran Fred Patton as the new head of Developer Relations.

Patton came to Palm in early 2010, tasked with running the developer website - yes, we're now to the point where two years qualifies one as a veteran at webOS. With all of the and that have hit the Developer Relations team in the past few months, two years later he's now "managing day-to-day operations" of the department, as he put it in the "about me" blog post that went up this evening.

An impressive resume is part of what Patton brings to the table here, having developed command and control software for Air Force and NASA satellites and been the Director of Engineering and Quality at Innovative Robotics (where he wrote user and developer documentation and optimized customer setups - good skills for leading a software developer relations team).

So congratulations on the new gig, Fred, and good luck. We'll be watching. And waiting (save us some cake).

Over the past few years, the vehicle cabin has evolved far beyond its traditional role as a functional driving environment. In step with broader mobility trends such as electrification, automation and software-defined intelligence, the car interior has steadily grown into a flexible living space – one capable of supporting a wider range of everyday needs during the journey.
Building on this industry evolution, we at LG are exploring how in-cabin experiences may further develop through our next-generation concept platform, LG P-pod 1.0. This solution combines LG Mobility AI and advanced technologies developed across our Vehicle Solution (VS) Company.
LG P-pod is the new name we’ve given to the digital cockpits that we develop to test advanced mobility innovations before they reach commercialization. The “P” stands for Prototype, highlighting its role as an early-stage concept and a practical testbed for our mobility technologies. The word “pod” refers to the cabin itself – a modular, human-centered space where multiple technologies work together. It also evokes the image of a pea pod, symbolizing how key in-car systems – from the head unit and displays to connectivity solutions and the Advanced Driver-Assistance System (ADAS) Vision System – fit seamlessly within one cohesive environment. At once functional and symbolic, LG P-pod represents a future-oriented yet emotionally resonant design philosophy – where innovation feels intuitive, and the name itself remains simple and memorable.
Let’s take a closer look at how we’re using LG P-pod 1.0 as a test platform to drive in-cabin experience innovation.

      1. Empathetic Interaction: Exploring How Cars Can Understand and Respond
It starts with recognition – a car that sees you, knows you and responds before you even ask. LG P-pod 1.0 serves as a technology incubator, exploring how future vehicles might identify drivers through a Driver Monitoring System (DMS), retrieve schedules or prepare frequently used apps to support more natural interaction.
These foundational technologies help us investigate how vehicles could evolve from simple awareness to context-responsive behavior. The adaptive portrait display shifts orientation for better visibility, while the LG Mobility AI-based voice interface provides a platform for studying more conversational, human-like interactions. Combined with front-camera data and Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) connectivity, the system also enables research into precise stopping points or personalized in-cabin moments – such as lighting, music and animations that respond to special occasions like a birthday or an anniversary.

      2. Personalizing Your Journey: Enabling Mobility to Adapt to Every Individual
While traditional personalization has centered on the driver, LG P-pod 1.0 acts as a technology incubator for extending tailored experiences to all passengers. Powered by the Driver & Interior Monitoring System (DIMS), the platform explores how it can recognize the conditions and preferences of both the driver and passengers in real time, offering tailored entertainment – from OTT services and music to games and apps – instead of mirroring the same content across every screen.
Shared experiences can also be enhanced. Group decisions, like choosing a restaurant, can be made through an on-screen voting feature that syncs results across displays. An AI recommendation engine suggests destinations, routes and entertainment based on contextual information. With profiles that follow each user and settings that activate automatically, LG P-pod 1.0 turns the car into a space where every passenger’s journey feels personal – whether it lasts ten minutes or two hours.

      3. Expanding Time and Space: Shaping How Life Can Continue Seamlessly on the Road
LG P-pod 1.0 reimagines the vehicle not as an isolated environment but as a lifestyle enabler that helps explore new forms of seamless connectivity. Through the Smart Telematics System and integration with smart home appliances, it serves as a platform for exploring how users might control home devices from inside the car – including air conditioning, lighting, robot vacuums and even pet feeders. Through real-time data exchange, the system also investigates ways to enable remote awareness of home cameras and sensors, helping to keep the home and vehicle connected and offering greater peace of mind while on the road.
This seamless connection extends to entertainment as well. Videos or music started at home can resume playing inside the vehicle, making the cabin a natural extension of each user’s personal environment. By reducing the boundary between “on the road” and “at home,” LG P-pod 1.0 acts as a platform for experimenting with new connected-life experiences where travel time becomes an uninterrupted part of everyday living.
“By leveraging LG P-pod 1.0 as an incubator for LG’s mobility technologies, we’re taking a meaningful step toward our vision of a ‘Living Space on Wheels,’ where the vehicle becomes a personalized environment that supports every part of your lifestyle,” said Alexio Rhee, head of Global Customer Strategy at the LG Electronics VS Company. “By combining empathetic interaction, multi-profile personalization and seamless connectivity between the car and the home, LG is redefining what the in-cabin experience can be.”
We’re unveiling LG P-pod 1.0 to a global audience as part of our “LG on board” mobility campaign, sharing how elements such as intelligent understanding, personalized adaptation and immersive interaction may shape future in-car experiences. Through a series of stories – beginning with the first core value, “Empathetic Interaction,” revealed on December 15 and followed by additional values later in the month – we aim to offer a glimpse into a more meaningful way of experiencing life on the move.

From the days of clunky cartridges and boxy monitors, gaming has come a long way. Yet, even in 2025 and beyond, there’s still room for transformational leaps – like the recent arrival of Xbox Cloud Gaming (Beta) on LG Smart TVs. Thanks to this partnership with Xbox, LG is giving players new freedom to customize their gaming experience just the way they like it.
Make the Ultimate TV Choice for Modern Gaming
This collaboration transforms the conventional TV experience by offering access to hundreds of Xbox titles directly through the Xbox app. All you need is a compatible controller, a high-speed internet connection – and of course, an LG TV. It’s all about giving you the power to choose how you play.
But which TV model truly brings your games to life?
If you’re looking for a widely accessible TV built to amplify every aspect of gaming – and available in massive screen sizes – look no further than LG’s QNED evo lineup. Engineered for gamers, QNED evo TVs don’t just meet the demands of today’s top titles – they thrive on them. Here’s how.

Ultra-Smooth Gameplay Has Never Been so Accessible
Fast-paced games demand a display that can keep up. Precise, smooth gameplay can be the difference between victory and defeat – or between total immersion and sheer frustration.
QNED evo TVs prove that you do not need to splurge to enjoy the smoothest, low-lag gameplay. Laggy, stuttering scenes are a thing of the past with refresh rates of up to 165Hz, enabling more responsive gameplay, reducing motion blur and providing a competitive edge. LG’s α8 AI Processor helps deliver minimal latency and lightning-fast response times.
And there’s more: QNED evo models support Variable Refresh Rate and Auto Low Latency Mode for seamless tear-free gaming, while AMD FreeSync Premium keeps games smooth as butter.
This is all underpinned by four HDMI 2.1 ports – so you do not have to choose between multiple consoles and your soundbar. You get speed, fluidity and flexibility, all in one.
True Wireless Gaming TV With Zero Compromises
Speaking of not wanting to make compromises, some gamers just find cables distracting. Many turn to wireless HDMI transmitters. The trouble is, the quality of these can be inconsistent. That’s where LG’s Zero Connect Box steps in and changes the game.
This technology, found in the new QNED9M, enables True Wireless 4K connectivity at up to 144Hz – with no latency, no loss in quality and full support for Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. It even meets the AMD FreeSync Premium standard.
With the Zero Connect Box tucked away, you get a clean, clutter-free setup. Plug in your console or stream directly through the Xbox app – either way, you’ll enjoy seamless wireless gaming with low input lag and no visual compromise. Game your way, wire-free.

      Real-Time Adjustments for Competitive Advantage
You can make the most of all these benefits by checking out LG’s Game Optimizer, which allows for fast, intuitive control over the gaming experience. With a single on-screen dashboard, you can tweak key settings on the fly – like Black Stabilizer for better visibility in dark scenes. Whether you’re playing a first-person shooter, an RPG or a high-speed racing game, the Game Optimizer put you in control. Fine-tune in real-time and sharpen your edge over the competition.
Stunning Visuals That Pull You into the Game
Games also just look great on QNED evo models, whether you are playing in a bright room or a dark one. Underpinning their vibrant visuals is LG’s proprietary Dynamic QNED Color delivers unparalleled accuracy and true-to-life picture quality.
That’s particularly important in visually rich, cinematic titles where no one wants a washed-out screen to break the immersion. Thankfully, QNED evo TVs offer exceptional picture quality and 100 percent color volume, allowing gamers to experience stunning visuals with deep blacks, bright highlights and vivid colors courtesy of Dynamic QNED Color and cutting-edge Mini LED technology. Advanced AI algorithms raise picture and sound quality to provide an even more immersive gaming experience with superior clarity and detail.
Want even more immersion? Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos enhance every detail – every explosion, whisper and ray of light – to a cinematic experience.
Bigger Screen for a Bigger Gaming Universe
A final word on versatility and affordability. These are important QNED evo advantages. Attractive pricing compared with other top-tier TV technologies means more people are able to elevate their gaming experience with a QNED evo TV.
The lineup is broad, extending from 50 to 100 inches in size. Gamers who thought their dream 65-inch TV was out of reach, for instance, might find a QNED evo model that suits them perfectly.
There is also a consistent baseline of exceptional quality in the overall QNED evo gaming experience. This includes LG’s Gaming Portal, which enhances game streaming with effortless access to a wide range of popular and new titles. With a user-friendly interface, curated app list and personalized recommendations, it’s your central hub for game discovery and streaming – designed to make your gaming journey uniquely yours.

Be the Undisputed Champion in the Living Room
If you are seeking peak performance, stunning visuals and next-gen features – all at a compelling value – LG QNED evo is the ultimate choice. It transforms your living room into a true gaming arena, where every session feels like a front-row seat to the action.

In this interview, we delve into the creative process of Fred Scott, the London-based BAFTA-winning filmmaker, as he brings LG’s “Radio Optimism” campaign to life. This campaign aims to strengthen meaningful human connections in a world dominated by superficial interactions on social media.
What does it mean to genuinely connect in a hyper-connected era, where people paradoxically feel more disconnected than ever? To strengthen meaningful human connections in a world dominated by superficial interactions on social media, LG launched a new brand campaign called “Radio Optimism” last month, expanding its “Life’s Good” philosophy into the digital space through shared musical experiences.
To create the brand film for the campaign, LG collaborated with Fred Scott, a London-based BAFTA-winning filmmaker known for “London Bridge: Facing Terror.” With a foundation of emotionally grounded, human-centered storytelling, Scott brought his unique creative lens to the project and crafted a short documentary film that highlights the power of music to bridge even the widest emotional and physical distances.
In this piece, we delve into Scott’s creative process – tracing how he creatively brought the message of “Connecting the Disconnected” to life for the campaign through his distinctive storytelling.

What do you value most as a filmmaker and a creator? What drives your creative process?
Authenticity (obviously), intimacy and a clear sense of openness and trust is what I am always seeking when making a film. I believe in the power of narrative to foster empathy and build shared understanding. How can I connect with audiences without authenticity or real people?
Whenever I start a project, I actively seek out genuine individuals and stories, whether a reclusive filmmaker reflecting on their art or people searching for redemption after a traumatic event. My aim as a creator is to bring these stories to life authentically – in an environment where the subjects feel protected and supported.

What did you think when you first heard about “Radio Optimism?” Was there something about the idea that resonated with you creatively or personally?
The concept of togetherness and connection in the Radio Optimism campaign resonated with me, especially as we live in a world where we’re supposedly never more connected – yet we can often feel disconnected.
Through this campaign, LG is bridging the gap between technology and emotional connection in a powerful, effective and, most importantly, genuine way. It makes those who feel disconnected feel part of a community.
What also stood out was the longevity of the platform. It’s not just a fleeting story but a campaign that could grow into a movement. Through the universal language of music, Radio Optimism has the power to be inclusive, creating something that anyone around the world can contribute to.
How did you choose the subject for the film?
Finding the right person with an inspiring story to tell and who lives or works for periods away in a remote location was no mean feat. However, when we found Ann Eileen, everything just clicked into place, and I knew she encapsulated everything I wanted the brand film to live and breathe.

She truly is the beacon of the film. She’s effervescent, relatable, approachable and deeply inspiring. She has sacrificed a lot to pursue her passion in her field of research to protect the planet but at the cost of spending more than three months away from her family. Yet, despite the time apart, they’ve found ways to connect, and it’s truly inspiring to see how Ann Eileen’s values and ethics can be witnessed in her children.

Through the film, I wanted to capture this genuine, nurturing and intimate feeling of Ann’s family life and highlight the power of meaningful connections.
Tell us more about your creative process for the short documentary film?
For this project, my approach leaned into a documentary style with a particular eye on scale, juxtaposing the intimacy of Ann Eileen’s family life with the epic, remote and expansive landscape around her.
I wanted to find moments of genuine, emotional connection within a story of isolation while keeping the tone soulful rather than sugary.
The cinematography was designed to feel authentic and beautiful, highlighting both the uniqueness of the setting and the realism of the experience. The story’s authenticity is key to connecting with the audience. Inauthenticity breaks that bond.
How do you stay connected with your family when you are divided by distance?
Staying connected with my family while away has always been important to me. I use video calls, voice notes and sometimes even analogue ways, such as leaving notes. Whilst technology offers us ways to communicate, leaving notes is a very personal way of sharing emotional connection.
I’m fortunate to be a parent, and if I were to make a song using the Radio Optimism platform, I’d make one for my four-year-old son. He is obsessed with the saxophone and discovering language, so this would be a fun way to capture this precious moment of his childhood.

What do you want audiences to feel when they watch the Radio Optimism documentary film?
I hope the authenticity of the film resonates with people. Ann Eileen’s life may be unique, but the emotions and relationships at the heart of it are something we all recognize.
I’d love for the film to encourage people to keep communicating and strengthen their relationships, especially in a world where it’s easy to drift apart.
Sometimes, we need a little nudge to make a phone call or create something for someone we care about—I want this film to feel like that nudge.
I also want the audience to see the joy and emotional power of creating a personalized song, even if it’s about something silly and every day like embarrassing knitwear.
What are your reflections on the production and what does “Life’s Good” mean to you?
The whole process was incredibly satisfying because it felt genuine, collaborative and driven by a shared purpose to put something meaningful into the world.
I feel the film captured the kind of optimism and authenticity we hoped to share with audiences.
To me, “Life’s Good” means having purpose, hope and shared experiences. I feel fortunate that my work allows me to support others and tell stories that matter.
      Watch the film

In a surprise appearance at the LG cafeteria, will.i.am stepped in as emcee for an “xboom by will.i.am” product raffle. Winners took home a variety of items from the new audio lineup, along with signed will.i.am posters, turning an ordinary lunch into an unforgettable moment.

Keeping the energy going, will.i.am headed to LG’s state-of-the-art Virtual Studio to film an unboxing video alongside Speedy Morman, well-known influencer and host of “360 with Speedy.” The video blended entertainment, tech, and content creation into a fun and engaging showcase of the entire new LG xboom lineup.

To cap off the eventful day, LG and will.i.am hosted a private meet-and-greet with randomly selected employees. Each winner received a professional photo with will.i.am and a signed commemorative poster. Employees were encouraged to share their snapshots on social media to spread the excitement and amplify the launch buzz beyond the LG campus.

The LG Styler Steam Clothing Care System has become an essential appliance in many Taiwanese households, addressing health concerns as well as enhancing clothing appearance. On October 9, LG Taiwan hosted a press conference to mark the official launch of the ALL NEW Styler.

For the first time, LG Taiwan collaborated with Taipei Fashion Week, creating a massive Styler-shaped pop-up store in the Xinyi Xiangti Avenue Plaza. The exhibition space was designed to make guests and media feel as though they were stepping inside the Styler. Attendees could try out the LG ALL NEW Styler and get a firsthand look at features typically hidden when the machine is in operation.
