SEOUL, July 19, 2022 — LG Electronics (LG) has been named to the Board of Directors of the Connectivity Standards Alliance (the Alliance), the leading global organization focused on developing, evolving and promoting universal open standards for the Internet of Things (IoT).

As the global home appliance market leader and a Promoter Member of the Alliance Board of Directors, LG brings a wealth of expertise and experience in smart home and communications technologies to the global organization. The newly appointed Board of Directors members are Don Williams of LG’s Chief Strategy Office and Dr. Sang Kim of LG’s Chief Technology Office.

With its elevated role within the Alliance, LG plans to actively participate in the development and standardization of Matter – the Alliance’s open-source IoT protocol for connecting smart home devices – and lead the expansion of the smart home ecosystem.

“Through our role on the Alliance board, we are demonstrating our full commitment to creating a more connected and convenient future,” said Dr. Kim Byoung-hoon, CTO and executive vice president of LG Electronics. “With the adoption and support of Matter, our growing lineup of smart products, including TVs, home appliances and IoT devices and sensors, will be able to connect to each other – and all compatible solutions – more securely and easily. The adoption of Matter will not only benefit LG customers but also strengthen the overall competitiveness of the company’s innovative home appliances and TV lineups.

“Like the Alliance, at LG, we are committed to evolving and improving the world in which we live,” said LG Senior Vice President of Innovation Dr. Sokwoo Rhee, and head of LG’s North American Innovation Center, LG NOVA. “For us, this means innovative product development focused on delivering a better user experience and improving how we provide service and value in the home and beyond. We look forward to this collaboration and all the opportunities to come.”

“LG brings great energy and market reach to the Alliance, with its wide-range of products to their engineering expertise and connectivity solutions, but what makes the Alliance stronger with LG is its dedication to innovation,” said Tobin Richardson, President, and CEO of the Connectivity Standards Alliance. “We are excited to have LG join our Board to help spur even greater innovation in what’s next with Matter, expanding the value of the Internet of Things to consumer everywhere.”

Composed of more than 500 companies, the Alliance’s global membership collaborates to create open standards for the IoT, transforming the way we live, work and play. With its members’ deep and diverse expertise, robust certification programs and a full suite of open IoT solutions, the Alliance is leading the movement toward a more intuitive, imaginative and useful world.

With LG AlphaWare – a comprehensive portfolio designed for SDVs – LG helps automakers navigate the growing complexity of automotive software, improve reliability and security and accelerate the evolution of in-vehicle experiences.
LG AlphaWare is organized around five key pillars – PlayWare, MetaWare, VisionWare, BaseWare and OpsWare – covering key areas from immersive in-vehicle entertainment and AR/MR navigation to intelligent driver and passenger monitoring, robust operating system support and secure lifecycle management. LG AlphaWare is symbolic of LG’s transformation into a Smart Life Solution Company – extending its innovation leadership from the home to mobility and delivering safer, smarter and more enjoyable driving experiences.
“We are delighted to welcome LG Electronics to SDVerse,” said Prashant Gulati, CEO of SDVerse. “LG’s broad suite of mobility solutions, led by their AlphaWare suite, strengthens our platform and enables OEMs and suppliers to access technologies that simultaneously create exceptional user experiences and speed up the arrival of software-defined mobility worldwide.”
“We are proud to introduce LG’s mobility solutions to the SDVerse marketplace,” said Eun Seok-hyun, president of LG Electronics Vehicle Solution Company. “Automotive companies today face the challenge of unifying vehicle operating systems and evolving their business models to stay competitive in the SDV era. By joining SDVerse, we can provide proven solutions that simplify integration and help accelerate innovation.”

SEOUL, Sep. 29, 2025 — LG Electronics (LG) is set to redefine stadium experiences with its latest advanced digital signage solutions, debuting at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano Stadium – the home of European football giants Atlético de Madrid – from the start of the 2025/26 La Liga season. The extensive installation is engineered to elevate live sports into fully immersive fan experiences while strengthening LG’s leadership in the global signage market.
The installation spans 1,742 square meters, encircling the stadium’s uppermost tier with a sweeping ribbon of vivid, dynamic visuals that deliver real-time match information and energize the crowd from every angle.
At the ribbon’s core is LG’s Mesh LED display, a lightweight, flexible system built from a net-like array of LED modules. Low heat emission and reduced power consumption further enhance energy efficiency.
The Riyadh Air Metropolitano Stadium also features over 3,000 square meters of additional LG digital signage, strategically placed at entrances, concourses, the player tunnel and the press center. Together, these displays create a unified visual environment that builds anticipation before kickoff and sustains excitement until the final whistle.
LG’s sports signage portfolio spans nearly 200 countries, from iconic arenas to local training facilities. Beyond ribbon boards, the company offers large-scale scoreboards to small-format displays – all supported by the LG Business Cloud platform for remote management, targeted content delivery and new advertising revenue opportunities.
In Spain, LG supplies LED signage to approximately 80 percent of professional football stadiums, highlighting its market dominance. Its technology also powers some of the world’s most celebrated venues, including Twickenham Stadium and Wembley Stadium in the UK, as well as leading stadiums in Germany, Belgium, the U.S. and across Europe and North America.
According to Omdia, the global LED signage market – including sports facilities – is expected to grow at an average annual rate of around 13.4 percent, surpassing KRW 14 trillion by 2029.
“Our advanced signage solutions featured throughout the Riyadh Air Metropolitano Stadium exemplify our commitment to elevating the stadium experience for sports fans,” said Paik Ki-mun, head of the Information Display Business at the LG Media Entertainment Solution Company. “By delivering immersive and dynamic visual solutions, we aim to strengthen our leadership in this growing market.”

Delivering the First Commercial Implementation of HCA Specification 1.0,
Company Expands Smart Home Ecosystem Through Partnerships With Other Brands

SEOUL, Aug. 29, 2023 — LG Electronics (LG) is set to present the first commercial implementation of the Home Connectivity Alliance’s HCA Specification 1.0, enabling cross-brand appliance connectivity through the LG ThinQ smart home platform. By the end of this year, consumers will be able to control appliances from diverse brands, such as Samsung and Vestel, with the intuitive-to-use ThinQ app, providing seamless interconnectivity and a smarter, more convenient home.
With a firm commitment to customer experience innovation, LG has joined with other brands to bring the elegant simplicity of cross-brand compatibility to major markets worldwide, including South Korea, the United States and Europe. The partnership will initially cover major appliance product categories, such as washing machines, dryers and dishwashers, and will gradually be expanded to other types of appliances in the future.
The widespread adoption of HCA Specification 1.0 to development makes it possible to monitor and control various brands’ home appliances and air solutions using a single application. With the ThinQ app, users just have to register their compatible products, and then they’re ready to enjoy the ease and time-saving freedom of one-stop device management. Those with an LG washing machine and a Samsung dishwasher in the home, for example, will no longer have to switch between each manufacturer’s app to set their preferred wash cycle and cleaning settings.
The arrival of true cross-brand interconnectivity is the realization of the HCA’s vision for a seamlessly unified smart home experience. Founded in January 2022 and comprising a number of smart home solutions manufacturers, the HCA aims to provide cloud-based interoperability between the smart home platforms of its member companies. As a board member of the alliance, LG has been working closely with other appliance makers, including Samsung and Vestel, to drive the adoption of HCA Specification 1.0, with the ultimate goal of enhancing user convenience.
Committed to expanding the smart home ecosystem, LG has also actively supported the work of the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA), a global organization dedicated to developing open communication protocols for smart home devices. LG contributed to the development and standardization of the Matter protocol, an Internet Protocol-based home IoT communications standard led by the CSA.
“LG ThinQ enables a seamlessly interconnected home appliance ecosystem that will provide new smart home experiences to customers around the globe,” said Jung Ki-hyun, executive vice president and head of platform business center. “LG will continue to expand compatibility between ThinQ and other HCA members’ smart home platforms.”
