SEOUL, June 30, 2022 — LG Electronics (LG) and SM Entertainment (SM), a leading entertainment group in South Korea, have launched Fitness Candy, a joint venture that will bring F.U.N – an acronym for First, Unique and New – user experiences to the fast-growing home fitness segment. LG and SM hold a 51 and 49 percent stake, respectively, in the company.

At the official launch ceremony of Fitness Candy, held today in Seoul, Korea, both partners shared their vision for delivering new and differentiated home fitness experiences. Combining their expertise in innovative consumer technology and cutting-edge entertainment, LG and SM aim to create a comprehensive lifestyle platform – complete with content, services and related products – to help people address their health and fitness needs at home.

LG will develop, operate and manage service platforms for Fitness Candy. As a global leader in user-friendly software and hardware solutions integrating advanced AI and data analysis capabilities, it will also be designing a new generation of home fitness devices prioritizing convenience, ease-of-use and F.U.N customer experiences. SM, which boasts a wide global fandom based on its diverse roster of talents, will contribute world-class content to encourage and challenge users of all fitness levels.

Planning and producing home fitness-related content and devices, Fitness Candy will operate via a subscription service-based app. Set to be released in September, the app will be available for installation in various operating systems and devices such as smartphones and smart TVs, providing interactive, personalized services that collect data from smart bands, cameras and exercise devices.

Fitness Candy provides content in six categories: strength training, core strengthening, high-intensity interval training (HIIT), dance, stretching and meditation. Content in each category will run for 10 to 40 minutes and will be updated weekly.

In close collaboration with SM, Fitness Candy is focused on creating content, not only limited to home fitness, that users can easily watch and enjoy. Encompassed by its slogan “Beyond Fitness, Sweet Life,” the company plans to secure a wealth of content such as sports, variety shows and documentaries, as well as content that helps with healthy diets, rehabilitation and stress relief.

The Fitness Candy platform will enable users to access a wide range of interactive fitness content featuring popular Korean celebrities, such as Fitness Candy ambassador and model

, dancer , and actress . Various South Korean athletes, including triathlete , Taekwondo Olympic medalist , short track speed skater and former rugby player , actively participated in the content creation process, enabling the company to provide even more professional and entertaining content to users.

The company aims to introduce a variety of new devices that can be linked to its app, allowing users to enjoy content more effectively. One of them is a device that can recognize and track users’ movements thanks to the inclusion of LG’s AI camera and IoT platform. Connecting wirelessly to the user’s TV, the device allows for two-way communication, creating the ideal setup for virtual one-on-one coaching sessions and for participating in live-streamed exercise classes.

Fully utilizing LG’s innovative technologies such as AI, big data, motors and displays, the company also plans to develop products such as muscle strengthening devices, indoor bicycles and smart bands.

“We will transform LG’s business paradigm from function-oriented home appliances into a customer experience-oriented company, transforming into a company that provides smart life solutions to deliver the best customer experience,” said William Cho, CEO of LG Electronics. “Through Fitness Candy, LG’s innovative technology and SM’s content creating capabilities will converge to create differentiated smart life solutions that provide never-before-seen customer experiences.”

“The coming together of LG’s innovative technology and SM’s music, dance and various content that have paved the way for the future of K-pop is a great opportunity for the two companies to contribute to the global fitness and healthcare industry,” said Lee Sung-su, co-CEO of SM Entertainment. “Fitness Candy is a digital fitness content project that goes beyond simple diet experiences and, rather, empowers users to rediscover healthy fitness habits.”

The S95TR boasts five up-firing channels, including the industry’s first center up-firing speaker, creating an unparalleled three-dimensional audio experience with enhanced clarity and an expanded soundstage. Moreover, the angle of the center up-firing speaker ensures a seamless audio-visual experience with precise elevation to the TV screen’s level.
The S95TR features improved tweeters for clear and precise audio, while also incorporating a passive radiator to enrich bass sounds and optimize the overall balance between the soundbar and the subwoofer. Notably, viewing quality is further strengthened in the S95TR model, designed with a matte color palette, materials and finish to effectively reduce reflections.

WOW Orchestra, WOW Interface, and WOWCAST enable the SG10TY model to seamlessly integrate with LG OLED TVs, completing the viewing experience for a greater sense of immersion. Remarkably, connecting WOWCAST to the SG10TY model and an LG premium OLED TV creates a wireless home entertainment experience with no visible cables between the screen and the soundbar. This Wi-Fi enabled soundbar provides a flawless listening experience with a high-fidelity audio quality for listeners to enjoy their favorite tracks on music streaming platforms including Tidal Connect and Spotify Connect. The thoughtful design of the SG10TY flawlessly aligns with the width and frame colors of LG OLED TVs, resulting in an impeccable visual match when paired with an ultra-thin OLED TV.
LG will also roll out the S70TY soundbar model, ideal for LG QNED TVs with its simple and compact design. This model also features the industry’s first center up-firing speaker, providing sharpened voice clarity. The angled design ensures harmonious audio and visual in alignment with the TV screen’s level.
A dedicated bracket for the S70TY model* allows users to place the soundbar directly beneath the QNED TV for a refined appearance. This bracket provides a convenient solution for direct attachment, eliminating the need to drill holes in the wall during installation. Company’s Transformation to Bring a Better Life to Its Customers
Through Selection of Distinctive Services and Content

SEOUL, Sep. 19, 2023 — LG Electronics (LG) today shared its first step to become a media and entertainment platform company, a business transformation that will enrich customers’ lives by delivering valuable services and a unique collection of curated contents in products, including LG OLED and LG QNED TVs. LG shared its new direction and strategy at the webOS Partner Summit 2023, held at the LG Sciencepark in Seoul, South Korea, and attended by content producers, providers, developers and industry figures from over 30 countries.
The first event of its kind, webOS Partner Summit 2023 provides the perfect forum for LG to share its new vision – and the immense value of the ever-evolving and expanding webOS smart TV platform ecosystem – with its trusted global partners.
Since its launch on LG Smart TVs in 2014, webOS has been one of the most widely used smart TV platforms in the world. Powering more than 200 million LG TVs worldwide, webOS also supports several third-party TV brands in multiple markets. Moving forward, LG plans to extend webOS to more third-party TV companies and expand the platform to other product categories. Within 3 years, LG expects to have over 300 million webOS-powered devices.
To deliver the unmatched convenience and expansive ecosystem of webOS to a broader customer base, LG has already applied its platform webOS to a range of categories, including projectors, digital signage and in-vehicle infotainment systems.
Moreover, the number of third-party partner brands that have embraced webOS Hub, the webOS solution for third-party brands, has grown substantially, increasing from 20 just two years ago to over 300 today. During that time, webOS Hub has undergone meaningful upgrades with the variety of content on offer expanding to include cloud gaming and OTT services and new features arriving to enhance convenience and the overall user experience. Additionally, some of LG’s partner TV brands have now introduced their own OLED TVs powered by webOS Hub.
The webOS smart TV platform is continuously evolving, providing seamless upgrades that add support for new services and bringing constant refinement to the user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) design based on LG’s deep understanding of customers. To allow as many users as possible to enjoy the latest version of webOS on their home TVs, LG is offering seamless support for TV operating system upgrades and updates via platform upgrades even for earlier TV models.
As part of its strategy to expand the webOS platform ecosystem, LG acquired the US advertising and content data analysis specialist, Alphonso, in 2021. Alphonso established subsidiaries in the UK and Greece last year, accelerating the global growth of its content service.
LG is set to make a substantial investment of KRW 1 trillion in its webOS business over the next five years in order to provide more content and services that cater to the diverse lifestyles and preferences of consumers. By boosting its competitiveness in content and services, LG believes it will further elevate the webOS user experience.
LG’s strategic investment will be focused on broadening the range of content available via the webOS platform, boosting usability by innovating the UI and UX, and strengthening partnerships with content production companies on a global scale. To date, LG has worked with its partners to bring new technologies to the platform for gamers, sports fans or Gen Z users. An example is the integration of Sye, a Prime Video proprietary, which provides a low latency technology that will benefit LG customers who are fans of live-streaming sports like Thursday Night Football. LG TVs deliver Netflix HDR streaming and have just opened the beta release for Netflix Games on TV and with the launch of the lifestyle screens for Gen Z, the company worked with YouTube to make a Native Touch UX available for the app on models such as StanbyME.
LG is also strengthening innovation in the area of AI-based search and recommendations. The company plans to incorporate a voice user interface (VUI) feature into partner companies’ apps, which will let webOS users easily control and navigate third-party content services with their voice, and enable swift and seamless content discovery.
Service usability will likewise be enhanced. LG Channels 3.0, LG’s premium, free streaming service, boasts a growing selection of TV series and has a revamped UI that allows users to view more content options, including live channels and movies, on the screen, reducing the need to scroll. And thanks to the new UI, users can now easily explore what’s on other channels without having to pause or navigate away from what they’re watching.
Available in 27 countries worldwide, LG Channels currently offers over 3,000 channels and has over 50 million subscribers as of March 2023. In 2022 alone, the number of unique devices on which LG Channels was used increased by 75 percent, while viewing time rose by 57 percent and usage frequency surged to make the service one of the top-five most-accessed apps on the webOS platform.
LG is actively investing in its smart TV platform development capabilities by partnering with academic institutions in South Korea to nurture the next generation of software talent, and by reinforcing its efforts to secure top-notch software professionals all around the globe.
LG is driving change with a genuine customer-centric approach, as represented by its TV business’s Sync to You, Open to All vision. The vision expresses the company’s aim to provide personalized experiences that cater to each customer’s preferences and lifestyle, and to create products that are accessible to all.
“LG is poised to transform into a media and entertainment platform company that delivers distinctive content and services that will enhance the lives of its customers,” said Park Hyoung-sei, president of the LG Home Entertainment Company, at webOS Partner Summit 2023. “This transformation would not have been possible without LG’s decade of OLED TV leadership and the technological innovation of the webOS smart TV platform.”

At the beginning of 2023, LG unveiled its vision statement for a new era of TVs – “Sync to You, Open to All” – which signifies the company’s unwavering dedication to tailoring the user experience to unique preferences and lifestyles.
Aspiring to revolutionize the consumer landscape, LG is paving the way for truly exceptional customer experiences with a diverse array of personalized products and services which offer value to users regardless of their age, gender and location.

In its latest attempt to create personalized home entertainment experiences, LG has brought a special feature to its 2023 smart TVs which lets users discover and apply their ideal picture settings. The winner of LG’s fourth company-wide customer value innovation contest, the AI-powered “Personalized Picture Wizard” goes beyond offering several picture presets to ensure images always look precisely how the user wants them to look.
To use the new Personalized Picture Wizard feature, all users need to do is select a few options that best reflect their ideal picture settings and preferences from a set of images, whether that be with warmer or cooler color tones or with sharper versus more softened images. The feature then offers a specialized preset based on these selections.

The goal is to make picture customization easier and more accessible to non-TV experts for all consumers. “Calibrating the TV is a daunting task for most users. First, they must navigate through several settings to get to the picture presets, and even then the complicated technical terminology and fear of ruining a new TV puts them off,” explained Ki Dong-jun, professional at the LG HE Company’s HE Product Planning Division. “In fact, we found that 90 percent of our consumers stick to the TV’s default settings, Standard and Eco Mode.”

A comparison of two images before and after applying the Personalized Picture Wizard
While this feature makes tailor-made entertainment experiences simpler, the cutting-edge technology behind it is far more complex. “Picture presets are grounded on six basic elements,” said Nam Yeon-oh, research professional at the LG HE Company’s HE R&D Lab. “Subtle variations of these elements combined remarkably create more than 85 million preset possibilities. The Picture Wizard’s AI technology then picks out an option based on the user’s selections, as well as providing descriptions of their picture preferences with easy-to-understand key words such as bright, warm and clear.”

First introduced at this year’s CES, the Personalized Picture Wizard has already received warm praise from consumers. In a user survey, 75 percent of people said the customized setting precisely reflects their picture quality preferences, and 90 percent found this feature intuitive and easy-to-use. An added convenience to being highly usable, the feature even allows users to further tweak and modify their customized picture settings to their liking.

LG’s innovation for customized home entertainment does not stop here. Besides providing personalized content recommendations based on the user’s voice search inquiries and keywords, LG’s smart TVs will soon come with a feature that lets every family member save their unique picture preset to their individual accounts.
