The importance of a well-balanced diet and its benefits for preventing diseases by boosting one’s immune system must never be underestimated. That said, an alarming number of people in Indonesia are malnourished and, unlike other parts of the world, this number is rising, not falling. This problem can be attributed to the number of children with limited access to nutrient-packed ‘superfoods’ like fruit, vegetables, beef, fish and nuts, according to a 2020 survey of low-income households that suggested children in Jakarta were not eating nearly as much nutrient-dense foods as they were before the pandemic.*

To take another step forward in its mission to make the world a better place for everyone, LG is bringing its healthier lifestyle initiatives to more underprivileged communities in Indonesia, most recently with its LG Lebaran Sehat (LG Healthy Eid) event. From May 4 to 6, the company set out to create social value in the nation’s bustling capital city, Jakarta, by delivering hot, healthy meals to hungry locals with LG’s flagship home appliances, including its cutting-edge microwave and expansive two-door refrigerator, playing their part.

Every year, Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan and is celebrated by hundreds of millions of Muslims in Indonesia alone. After a full month of fasting and prayer, families participate in a nationwide exodus, known as mudik, to reach their hometowns in time to celebrate lebaran, which involves a family feast made up of various delicious, traditional meals. This year, lebaran meant even more to Indonesians of Islam as it saw the return of mudik, since restrictions on mass movement were finally lifted after 2 years living with the global pandemic.

Believing that a spirit of solidarity within the local community would bring people together, LG Indonesia sent food trucks to three waste treatment facilities in the poorer areas of the city – Warung Buncit, Rawajati and Bantargebang. Hundreds of healthy meals were handed out to hard-working locals and deserving children, which were kept fresh and warm thanks to the advanced, energy-efficient LG products employed inside the restaurants on wheels.

LG Indonesia endeavors to bring new social activities that better the lives of people from all walks of life, collaborating with various influential partners across multiple industries along the way to make sure no community is left behind.

Milan Design Week, the world’s largest and most well-known design and furniture fair, is a mecca for the aesthetically-inclined. At this year’s event, the biennially-held EuroCucina exhibition put the spotlight on the latest trends in kitchen appliances and furnishings, with many of the industry’s major players taking part. A regular at Milan Design Week, LG delivered a stunning showcase of premium built-in kitchen appliances at a booth designed by GamFratesi, the acclaimed architecture and design studio co-founded by Italian Enrico Fratesi and Denmark’s Stine Gam.
To highlight both the ultra-premium Signature Kitchen Suite and LG’s built-in appliance lineups, the diverse range of built-in products on display clearly reflected the company’s dedication to promoting an inspired culinary lifestyle centered around the joy of sharing and savoring quality food.

“One particularly memorable episode during our collaboration with LG was the differentiation strategy for Signature Kitchen Suite and LG built-in appliances,” said GamFratesi. “This differentiation strategy was well reflected in the booth design.”

The coming together of Signature Kitchen Suite’s True to Food philosophy – founded on the importance of preserving the original flavors of fresh ingredients – and GamFratesi’s design ethos revealed a new vision for kitchen design. LG’s emphasis on quality natural ingredients was echoed by the natural materials and design elements incorporated into the exhibition booth itself, which also reflected the impact of environment and culture on different cuisine traditions. GamFratesi’s subtle use of wood and stone accentuated the beauty of the natural world while simultaneously drawing attention to the connection we form with the planet when cooking and consuming real food.

“The key points to pay attention to are the design of each island and the materials used,” noted GamFratesi. “Each island represents an independent piece of furniture that reflects our design aesthetic.”

Within the booth’s Signature Kitchen Suite zones, GamFratesi complemented the built-in brand’s gorgeous kitchen appliances with natural materials and finishings. Each display kitchen represented a seamless harmony of appliances, cabinetry, counters and décor, highlighting the transformative power of design to create special sanctuaries that celebrate authentic cooking and nature’s beauty.

Evocative, entertaining, yet entirely elegant, the Signature Kitchen Suite wine cellar zone made a lasting impression on visitors to LG’s booth. Here, GamFratesi drew inspiration from the wine-maturation process to craft a calm, almost-meditative space with a ‘cave-like’ sense of depth and a rich, atmospheric mood.

Although the synergy between LG’s built-in appliances and GamFratesi’s kitchen designs is undeniable, the process of smoothly integrating the two for the Milan Design Week showcase was not without challenges. However, through the thoughtful and purposeful placement of appliances with distinct functionalities, and via the introduction of LG’s panel-ready concept, the two innovative companies achieved the ultimate union of form and function. The results, as one can see from the images, speak for themselves.
Through the unprecedented fusion of design, technology and space, the compelling collaboration between LG and GamFratesi presented a new kind of value and a refined kitchen lifestyle. As demonstrated at Milan Design Week, and at other major exhibitions around the world, LG is committed to partnering with like-minded innovators who share its passion for pushing boundaries and elevating everyday life.

      Hi,
I recently bought an LG UK6500PLA TV (my first LG), but I have a difficult time streaming content (Wifi connected), e.g. Netflix series is streaming in low resolution.  The router is only 10 feet away from TV (but ethernet is not an option) and uses a 5GH frequency range.
I have tried making a speed test at fast.com, for both the TV (through the Webbrowser) and for my laptop and iPhone. The speed test for TV showed 2.5 Mbps and my laptop and iPhone showed 110 Mbps. Can there really be such a big difference? I am starting to wonder if this might be a warranty issue?
Do any of you guys have experience with bad Wifi reception on your LG TV or have any suggestions on how to fix it?

      Br,
      Nick

Since 2011, LG has been running the LG Hope Screen program under its ESG direction of Better Life for All, raising public awareness of serious social and environmental issues. Public service videos produced by international organizations and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) were able to catch the eyes of many by being displayed on LG’s billboards in the high-traffic pedestrian areas in two of the world’s most popular cities – New York’s iconic Times Square and London’s Piccadilly Circus.

In celebration of World Food Day (October 16), LG once again aired a campaign video  on its outdoor billboards between October 9-22. World Food Day is celebrated annually to honor the founding of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), a specialized agency to raise public awareness regarding global food shortages and efforts to address them.

The campaign video was produced by FAO under the theme, “Water is life. Water is food. Leave no one behind,” inspiring people to work together to end hunger. It aims to remind viewers of the value of water, an essential element for life and food, and to encourage people to put more thought and effort into water usage and conservation for a more sustainable future.

Previously, through the LG Hope Screen program, the company actively showed its support for the UNEP and World Environment Day by playing

As a global corporate citizen, LG actively took part in campaigns to solve global social and environmental issues, including world hunger. LG India partnered with the Akshaya Patra Foundation to provide lunch to around 33,000 students in 11 states across the country since last year. Meanwhile, to donate 120 refrigerator-freezers for food storage to 60 campuses in the United States, offering meals to 500,000 college students suffering from malnutrition.
In line with its ESG vision of Better Life for All, LG will continuously operate the LG Hope Screen program to raise awareness in public interest campaigns at a global level.

LG’s business practices and technological innovations reflect a deep-held desire to help improve people’s lives and make a positive impact on the planet. LG always believes that Life’s Good and aims to create innovative technologies and products that present exceptional values, contributing to a smarter, more convenient way of living and ultimately leading to a Better Life for All. This belief led LG to establish the LIFE’S GOOD AWARD, an innovation challenge that was held for the very first time in 2022.

      LIFE’S GOOD AWARD
First announced at CES 2022, the LIFE’S GOOD AWARD gave innovators from all around the world the opportunity to share their novel ideas for technology-driven solutions targeting environmental sustainability – Innovation for the Planet – or accessibility – Innovation for People.
A total of 334 entrants – individuals and groups – from 61 countries participated in LG’s inaugural innovation challenge, with four finalists chosen among them by an expert jury comprised of renowned ESG scholars, LG’s own executives and the head of LG Technology Ventures. Revealed at CES 2023, Dot Inc. and Day1Lab of South Korea, SOLUTUM of Israel and NONA Technologies of the United States will compete in a final pitching session to decide the ultimate winner.
Read on to learn about the four finalists’ innovative solutions that could help solve global challenges and how those solutions align with LG’s vision for a Better Life for All.
Innovations Creating a Better Life for All

Dot Inc.: Bridging the Information Divide for People With Visual Impairments
“We want to build bridges that connect the visually impaired to their families, and to society.”
Since 2015, South Korea’s Dot Inc. has been working on creating assistive technology for the visually impaired, such as the highly inventive Dot Braille Smartwatch. Dot Inc. has more than 120 technology patents to its name and was the winner of Titanium Lion at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity 2022. The company also won Best of Innovation in the Accessibility category at CES 2023.

Dot Inc.’s entry for the LIFE’S GOOD AWARD is ‘Dot pad’, a display solution designed to bridge the information gap for the visually impaired. With 2,400 braille pins – or ‘dots’ – which move up and down, the novel device converts images, maps and other diverse digital information from connected devices such as computers and mobile phones into tactile graphics for visually impaired users to feel and comprehend. Thanks to Dot Inc.’s innovative ‘Dot Cell’ electromagnet actuator technology, the game-changing device is twenty times smaller and ten times lighter than similar types of displays currently on the market, providing a far more convenient way for sight-impaired users to find and access information.

Day1Lab: Reducing Microplastics With Biodegradable Plastic Technology
“We want to see the dawn of a plastic-free world.”
Starting life in 2021 as a research team at Korea’s Seoul National University College of Engineering, Day1Lab strives to develop alternative plastic materials to solve the global problem of microplastic waste. The environmentally focused startup has been honored with various awards, including the K-Startup Award (Prime Minister of State Award), the Environmental Entrepreneurship Idea Award (Minister of Environment Award) and the SK hynix Startup Idea Award.

For the LIFE’S GOOD AWARD, Day1Lab presented a carbohydrate complex alternative plastic solution that, according to the startup’s internal test results, completely degrades naturally in freshwater after about two weeks, and in the earth after about two months. The jury lauded Day1Lab’s waste-fighting invention, noting its superiority over petroleum-based solutions which are the current status quo for biodegradable plastic solutions. With ongoing research in biodegradable plastics for a microplastic-free world, there’s much more to come in Day1Lab’s future.

SOLUTUM: Bioplastic That Dissolves Without Toxic Residue
“What would you like to leave behind for future generations?”
SOLUTUM is an innovative clean-tech startup that, like Day1Lab, is targeting the monumental challenge of ending plastic pollution. The company has successfully developed a novel plastic material and biodegradable technologies and has been selected as a sustainability innovator by Mass Challenge, the Coller Startup Competition and Seagate.

For the LIFE’S GOOD AWARD, SOLUTUM proposed a new plastic solution that degrades naturally without leaving behind any toxins. The material decomposes almost completely (90.2 percent) when put in freshwater for 56 days, and can be produced on existing plastic assembly lines – factors that have helped SOLUTUM secure a partnership with a leading beverage company.

NONA Technologies: Desalination Solution for Combating the Climate Crisis and Water Scarcity
“Make your own purified water anywhere.”
Made up of MIT School of Engineering and Sloan School of Management graduates, NONA Technologies develops water treatment technology that converts seawater to freshwater for industrial and domestic use.

NONA Technologies submitted a creative desalination solution for the LIFE’S GOOD AWARD. Devised in response to climate change and grounded on Ion Concentration Polarization (ICP) technologies, the solution is able to remove viruses, bacteria, salt and debris from water. The new innovation can be applied at a smaller scale than existing desalination technologies and offers the added benefits of higher energy efficiency, lower costs and lighter weight. As such, NONA Technologies’ creation could prove immensely useful in natural disasters or water shortages, providing affected communities with a reliable supply of drinkable water.

The four finalists of the LIFE’S GOOD AWARD were selected based on the huge potential of their innovations to contribute to a Better Life for All. To find out more about how these warm-hearted, technology-driven solutions can create positive changes for people and the planet, check out the LIFE’S GOOD AWARD Conference, taking place at LG Sciencepark in Magok, South Korea, on January 16.

As well as entertaining cooking shows, LG’s booth captivated visitors’ senses with twice-daily ‘concept catering’ events. Mimosa Milano, a Milan-based cooking project led by chef Mimosa Misasi, treated attendees to an array of fine foods made with local ingredients, such as fragrant and flavor-rich herbs and spices, perfectly preserved and precisely prepared using Signature Kitchen Suite products.

Sharing Brand Values Through the Power of Art
The core values of the Signature Kitchen Suite brand and its ‘True to Food’ philosophy were also communicated through the instantly-recognizable art of Italian illustrator, architect and author, Carlo Stanga, who created two exclusive works for LG’s Milan Design Week showcase. Displayed inside the booth, the first depicted a cityscape which visitors could zoom-in on to discover Signature Kitchen Suite appliances, then click to find out more about each product and its features. The second artwork, exhibited outside the Signature Kitchen Suite’s Milan showroom, offered Stanga’s creative interpretation of the beautiful city of Milan.

Wine tastings completed the artful culinary experience, giving visitors the opportunity to sample and savor wines chilled to perfection in the Signature Kitchen Suite Column Wine Cellar and Under-counter Wine Cellar.

The diverse program of events held during Milan Design Week elegantly expressed the ‘True to Food’ philosophy and unique value of LG’s sophisticated built-in brand, successfully introducing more people to the advanced technologies, stylish design and convenient features that define the Signature Kitchen Suite lineup.
