In this segment of On the Job, we take a look at the experts behind LG’s robotics team who are working on the next big idea to help make people’s lives and jobs safer and easier.

The pandemic has brought a new urgency to finding solutions to handle tasks that normally require human-to-human contact. In fact, the

is reporting that sales of autonomous service robots in the logistics sector will increase by 30 percent annually from 2020 to 2023. To accelerate advanced research into service robots and boost LG’s competitiveness in related technologies, LG established the LG Boston Robotics Lab in United States last year.

LG’s family of including GuideBot, ServeBot, ChefBot and UV robot are ideal for providing a safer environment through contactless service in public spaces such as shopping malls, restaurants and hotels. Consumers who might normally be hesitant to interact with another human are more comfortable receiving help from a robot that doesn’t breathe.

When developing robots, one of LG’s key goals is to develop a product that can make life easier for consumers. “Service robots can help humans handle difficult, arduous tasks, freeing up consumers’ time to focus on more valuable tasks that matter and bringing increased convenience and comfort into our lives,” said Dr. Baek Seung-min, head of the Advanced Robotics Lab at LG Electronics.

To respond to the domestic growth of home shopping, LG developed and unveiled an indoor-outdoor service delivery robot at the in Korea. LG’s four-wheeled indoor-outdoor delivery robot boasts enhanced mobility, adapting to various types of terrain by automatically adjusting the distance between its wheels and driving modes for optimal performance, ideal for both indoor and outdoor use.

The challenges in developing a service robot for commercialization in diverse environments are vast.  For example, to move reliably at high speeds in real-life settings on all types of surfaces while avoiding various obstacles is no easy task. Curbs, for example, might be a minor inconvenience to people but can be quite difficult to overcome for a wheeled robot. Engineers conducted real-world tests with different variables from adjusting tire air pressure to changing thread patterns on the front and rear wheels, among others. Omni-wheels provided the best performance on both indoor and outdoor surfaces, enabling the robot to move both forward and backward as well as side to side.

“We expect to test-operate the delivery robot by the end of the year,” said Dr. Baek Seung-min. “When it reaches the stage of commercialization, we expect the robot to open the next chapter of logistics innovation.”

Akin to how computers and automobiles were implemented in industry and commerce before they made their way to consumers, service robots are following a similar path. Already widely found in industries, service robots are now entering the commercial phase. When consumers will be able to purchase a delivery robot of their own is still unknown but if LG has anything to say about it, it won’t be too far away.

Last week a LG service person visited our home. After resetting our new LG TV, he went to his van and returned with a large remote controller. We asked what it was for and he told us it was to access settings that the standard controllers could not do. But would not tell us what it did.
Do you know what it can do?

From office towers to shopping malls – and even nuclear power plants – chillers are the unsung heroes of climate control. But when it comes to airports, the challenge is on a whole different level. These massive hubs run 24/7, with thousands of people moving through terminals, baggage areas, control rooms and retail spaces. That means the cooling systems have to be rock-solid, efficient and ready for anything.
At LG, we’ve made it our mission to deliver that kind of performance. Our high-efficiency chillers are designed to keep indoor conditions comfortable while making the most of every bit of energy. And airports around the world are proving just how reliable our solutions can be in some of the most demanding environments out there.

We know that no two airports are exactly alike, so we tailor our cooling solutions to each location. Our lineup includes Absorption, Centrifugal, Water-Cooled Screw, Air-Cooled Screw and Inter Scroll Chillers – each with specialized technology and precise control systems. Whether it’s a scorching desert climate or a humid coastal city, our chillers adapt to keep things running smoothly.
Take King Khalid Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. We installed five Centrifugal Chillers there, each with a 3000 Refrigeration Ton (RT) capacity. Using two-stage compression, they deliver top-tier performance while minimizing energy consumption. We’ve also brough Centrifugal Chillers to airports in Bangladesh and Indonesia, helping them maximize cooling efficiency for their large-scale facilities.
In Brazzaville, Congo, Maya-Maya Airport now runs on Water-Cooled Screw Chillers. These units are built for stability, with advanced protection devices and precise control, and to celebrate this achievement, we hosted a commemorative installation ceremony on September 12.

Over in Mexico City, Benito Juarez Airport relies on our Air-Cooled Screw Chiller to keep passengers comfortable. It runs quietly, with low vibration, and uses a high-performance control algorithm to optimize output. By using a falling film evaporator and electronic expansion valve, it also enhances heat transfer efficiency, reduces refrigerant charge and precisely manages refrigerant flow.
Here at home in South Korea, our chillers are hard at work in multiple airports. Incheon International Airport runs eight Air-Cooled Screw Chillers for consistent cooling, while other major airports such as Gimpo and Jeju operate Absorption models with low-GWP refrigerant for stability and efficiency, alongside Centrifugal and Water-Cooled units.
These projects are just the beginning. The global chiller market is expected to hit USD 12 billion by 2027, and we’re aiming to grow our chiller business to USD 720 million (KRW 1 trillion) within two years. With advanced technology, diverse product lineup and commitment to customized solutions, we’re ready to keep airports – and industries everywhere – cool, comfortable and energy-smart.

      Hi All,

i’ve got an OLED 55C1 with webOS 6.0 and a service remote in South America.

I’ve been able to find working area codes for almost all regions using the service remote based on previous posts and tables.

Of most use to me were:
Brazil: 26895 (local DTV transmission settings) /22800 (BR/US DTV transmission settings)
      US: 1843 / 1793 / 22287
      UK/EU/Turkey: 3122
      AU Australia: 767
      JP Japan: 23439
I’ve also found working codes for China (CN), Taiwan (TW), Hog Kong (HK), Philippines (PH), Australia, NZ & South Asia incl. India (AJ), certain African and Middle Eastern countries (JA or JA ME IL regions: note Israel is not an option even though IL appears in the code) , Canada (CA), Mexico (MX), Panama and Central America (PA), Ecuador (EC), Colombia (CO), Peru (PE), Chile (CL), and Argentina (AR).
      Notably absent were working codes for;
      Israel (IL)
      Korea (KR)
Russia and CIS countries (RU CIS)
      Eastern Europe (ETC?)
Does anyone know the working area option service codes for these countries?
I am mostly interested in working IL and KR codes.

      thank you so much!
