New UI Update Web Browser bug with Disappearing Subtitles (LG C9 etc.)

Recommended Posts

After updating to the latest web browser with new user interface on LG C9, subtitles on all streaming websites disappears every 2-3mins.

Video continues to play without subs. The subtitles will re-appear if I move the magic remote but disappears again after 3mins.

Should be a widespread issue as it's also happening on Youtube.com videos with subs. Un-related but Play/Stop button on magic remote also stop working on the new browser.

Same issues on 77CX. Previous browser version had other issues but not as bad as the new one. Hope it gets fixed soon, I hate that such an expensive TV has these kinds of issues. Where is the QA?

I found that turning off Adaptive Streaming using Javascript fixes the disappearing subtitle issue, but it means sacrificing video quality, so it's not a good solution. (play / pause still won't work).

Also there is no way to downgrade back to the original version.

I also have a C9, luckily I haven't and will not update the browser on that TV as it's been working great, better than the original CX browser version (new update ruined it completely).

I found something that helps, reset TV to factory settings, before that write down your region and backup programs to usb, then after restoring, set region and restore programs, new browser is gone, but every time you run browser it  asks for update and you have to press launch. I found it in a thread and also users suggested to watch movies for free in watchsomuch.tv which was a great site and is fully compatible with WebOS browser. If pay you can watch outstanding 4K qualities on LG OLED

I installed the latest web os update. Problem is still not solved. I am now forced to run inferior new version and because it is a web os update it cant be downgraded by restoring to factory settings. it is a fucking disgrace.  LG please comment.

Hello , There is no setting to select subtitles for series and movies, I tried clicking on the colors on the remote, but nothing worked, I poked around in settings and found nothing. I sent several emails to the company, but no response was received. I remember that there was an option in the previous version, who has the same problem and what can be done?

As above! All4 & My5 will no longer work. Also, how do you update the browser? My LG nano TV is just over 3 years old.

I would like to update the OS on a relatively old TV (manufactured in 2015). So there are questions: how to find your version, where to download a new one and check its compatibility with my TV?

      Hi all,

      I'm Danny and have a problem with my LG OLED65C8;

since a few months when playing movies, either from my Syno NAS or just plain USB, subtitles are being displayed double (over or above eachother) or are displayed for sometimes minutes after the sentence's been spoken. The videofiles haven't got any hardcoded subs but either subs included in the mkv container or as separate srt of ssa file. Disabling subs removes the display of subs, enabling subs results in double or persistent subs.

Subtitles have been disabled in the accessability menu, factory reset did not help.

I searched but as far as I can see this problem has not been discussed yet, also googled and never came across this problem. Perhaps someone here can help?

      Kind regards, Danny

      SOLUTION, for me at least:

I used ColorControl to reboot the TV. It's weird that a factory reset did not work but a simple reboot did.

On LG OLEDs. You go on and disable SIMPLINK. Fine. But everytime you turn on your HDMI device it enables itself back again. This happens because they have disables two key features that were present in previous OSs, as you can see clearly here
link hidden, please login to view (they even put screencaps of the menus where you see the missing options in the 23) These functions are Auto Power Sync and Auto Device Detection.
Man updates are supposed to add functionalities not the other way around. It's very annoying to turn on your TV and have your AVR turn on without you wanting to.

Anyone found a solution for this problem?
