Android TV Box problem

Question

Ok, I'm hoping someone can help me with a problem I'm having with an Android TV box.

First I bought an M8 Amlogic S802 Android TV box from Amazon for £60 and was having trouble with the box's display settings (I wasn't sure weather the box was at fault or the TV).
When I tried to select one of the 4K settings on the box the screen would flash and distort like crazy, when I tried to select one of the 1080p settings it wasn't as bad but still flickered badly. When I selected one of the 1080i settings it was fine, but no good if I wanted to play 4K content.

I tried flashing different ROM's on the box, custom and stock, each one had different results. I found an older stock ROM which was fine with all of the 4K settings but XBMC was crashing a lot.

I thought the box was faulty so sent it back and ordered a T8-AML V2 box from droidsticks for just over £100 which is very similar to the M8, and guess what, It has exactly the same problem as the M8, not being able to select certain display settings etc. So, looks like i'm gonna have to send that one back also.

I'm thinking that these boxes are incompatible with the TV I have (55UB850V - Firmware 04.36.32) Maybe it's the TV's firmware that is the problem?

I've tried different HDMI ports, but still exactly the same.

Have any of you guys got one of these TV boxes and have had any trouble with it? or could you recommend a box that will work with my TV?

Thanks.

I am definitely connected to the internet because other things work. Also tried a direct ethernet connection with the same results.  Anyone else experience this?  Wondering of there is some
