SEOUL, July 15, 2024 — LG Electronics (LG) is establishing a new Air Solution Research and Development (R&D) Lab in Frankfurt, Germany. The state-of-the-art facility will join existing LG Air Solution Labs in Changwon, South Korea; and Atlanta, Georgia, USA, to form a global R&D triangle.

The new 10,000-square-foot lab will focus primarily on developing high-efficiency heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) solutions for Europe’s varied local climates. Research and testing will be carried out on a wide range of residential and light commercial HVAC systems, including heat pumps, energy monitoring systems and energy management platforms. Through executing an extensive, locally-focused R&D program, the Frankfurt lab will reinforce LG’s ability to provide HVAC solutions tailored for the European market.

Additionally, the new lab will collaborate with the company’s recently launched European Consortium for Advanced Heat Pump Research to develop heat pumps that can reliably deliver top-tier heating performance during Northern Europe’s harsh winters. To strengthen the capabilities of its European HVAC business, LG plans to nurture and actively recruit local talent in fields such as heat pump design and smart home technology.

A major focus for LG, the European HVAC market is expected to see significant growth in the coming years due to the European Union’s (EU) far-reaching energy policies. These include the REPowerEU* plan, which aims to reduce energy consumption, diversify energy supply, expand renewable energy sources and decrease dependence on fossil fuels by 2030. Moreover, the EU-led Green Deal policy targets significant reductions in carbon emissions by 2030, with further reductions by 2040, to achieve a carbon-neutral society by 2050.

The EU’s energy policies have significantly increased the demand for high-efficiency electrical products, particularly high-efficiency heat pump heating and cooling systems. These systems offer reduced carbon emissions compared to conventional fossil-fuel-driven solutions.

LG’s HVAC solutions, including ultra-efficient heat pumps, are highly competitive due to the company’s advanced core component technology, or core tech. LG develops and manufactures key components such as compressors and motors, essential for air conditioning products and a variety of other appliances. The company also proactively invests in R&D to continuously enhance its industry-leading technologies, including heat exchangers, inverters and heat pumps.

To drive B2B growth and increase management efficacy, LG’s HVAC business is developing a comprehensive local system encompassing all operational areas, from R&D and sales to maintenance and customer service. As part of this initiative, LG has expanded its network of HVAC academies to 62 locations in 43 countries across North America, Latin America, Europe and Asia, training over 30,000 HVAC engineers annually.

      SEOUL, Dec. 9, 2025 — LG Electronics (LG) has announced that its dedicated virtual production (VP) LED solution is powering the newly opened “Studio V,” a cutting-edge VP stage located within StudioCube in Daejeon, South Korea. StudioCube is the country’s largest public filming facility, and Studio V now stands as one of the world’s largest volume VP studios, reinforcing Korea’s growing momentum in next-generation content production and strengthening its global presence in the entertainment market.
      The opening ceremony, held on December 3 and hosted by the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA), brought together key government officials, including senior representatives from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Mayor of Daejeon. Their participation signaled national support for initiatives like Studio V that push the boundaries of technological innovation in the creative content sector.
      Studio V: A New Benchmark for Large-Scale Virtual Production
      Purpose-built for high-end filmmaking and immersive virtual environments, Studio V features a massive J-shaped main large-scale LED walls, which support an installation of up to 8 meters high and 60 meters wide. To accommodate diverse shooting requirements, it also offers a height-adjustable ceiling screen and mobile side walls. The ceiling system includes three independent motorized LED sections capable of vertical movement and tilting.
      At the heart of Studio V’s LED volume is LG’s purpose-built VP LED solution (model LBCJ026), engineered to deliver broadcast-ready performance with a 7,680Hz refresh rate and a 1/8 scan structure, minimizing visual artifacts such as flickering to ensure flawless camera capture. It achieves 99.07 percent coverage of the DCI-P3 color gamut, supports deep blacks and high-end HDR and delivers realistic, high fidelity digital environments. The display’s ultra-lightweight 5.9-kilogram modules feature precision lock systems that enable smooth screen curvature between -5 to +10 degrees.
      Supporting the full content-creation workflows, LG’s portfolio also includes LG OLED Pro professional monitors, widely used in production, color grading and post-production for their exceptional color accuracy and consistency.
      Collaboration for Production-Ready Performance
      To create a fully integrated and production-ready environment, LG worked closely with Brompton Technology, a global leader in LED video processing. Through joint optimization of system architecture, color calibration and real-time rendering performance, the partnership ensured seamless synchronization between LED displays and video processors, enabling Studio V to meet global broadcast standards and integrate smoothly with industry-standard production equipment.
      Beyond technical excellence, LED-based VP offers substantial environmental and operational benefits. By replacing large-scale physical sets with real-time 3D environments, the technology dramatically reduces material waste and carbon emissions while offering on-set advantages such as real-time visualization and faster, more efficient shooting schedules.
      Driving the Future of Immersive Content Creation
      LG continues to strengthen its leadership in VP technology by combining decades of display innovation with hands-on production experience.       Deepening Strategic Partnership to Drive Innovation in
      Next-Generation Mobility Solutions

      SEOUL, Nov. 13, 2025 — Executives from LG Electronics, LG Display, LG Energy Solution and LG Innotek met with Mercedes-Benz AG to discuss expanded collaboration under LG’s “One LG Solution” strategy. Focused on leveraging the combined expertise of LG Group affiliates, this effort brings together the four companies driving the Group’s automotive components business.
      The meeting took place on November 13 at LG Twin Towers in Yeouido, Seoul, during the visit of Ola Källenius, Chairman of the Board of Management and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, to Korea. Participants included William Cho, CEO of LG Electronics; Jeong Cheol-dong, CEO of LG Display; Kim Dong-myung, CEO of LG Energy Solution; and Moon Hyuk-soo, CEO of LG Innotek, alongside Mathias Vaitl, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Korea and other senior executives.
      Discussions centered on strengthening cooperation to support Mercedes-Benz’s vision for the future of mobility – including the transition to electric vehicles (EVs) and the establishment of a flexible, sustainable global production network driven by digitalization and automation.
      In line with this shared vision, LG Electronics, LG Display, LG Energy Solution and LG Innotek presented their next-generation solutions in EV components, batteries, displays and autonomous driving sensors, seeking new ways to strengthen integration under the One LG Solution framework.
      The four LG Group affiliates already work closely with Mercedes-Benz across multiple core areas of mobility technology:
      LG Electronics and Mercedes-Benz have long worked together on core systems for software-defined vehicles (SDVs), including in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) and advanced driver assistance systems. A notable example is the co-developed OLED-based IVI system for the Mercedes-Benz EQS, featuring a curved panoramic display that spans the entire dashboard – reflecting the growing trend toward immersive, large-format in-vehicle screens. LG Display has been supplying advanced Plastic OLED (P-OLED) panels to Mercedes-Benz since 2020. Built on flexible plastic substrates, the P-OLED panels deliver exceptional image quality and enable elegant, curved designs, including those featured in Mercedes-Benz’s next-generation MBUX Hyperscreen infotainment system. LG Energy Solution continues its partnership with Mercedes-Benz in the area of electric vehicle batteries. Taking center stage at the company’s IFA 2025 exhibit, LG ThinQ AI integrates the ThinQ UP and ThinQ Care services to provide a personalized, ever-evolving customer experience along with proactive appliance management. This innovative platform advances LG’s core product technologies through AI and usage data analysis, optimizing the product experience and enhancing customers’ overall quality of life.       In this edition of Executive Corner, we sit down with Ahn Jae-woo, head of the Component Solution R&D Lab at LG’s Home Appliance Solution (HS) Company. With over two decades of experience in compressor development, Mr. Ahn shares insights into the evolving role of LG’s Component Solution Business, the Lab’s unique strengths in cross-functional R&D, and how AI, automation and sustainability are driving the future of compressor and motor innovation.

      Q: Could you start by introducing yourself?
      I’m Ahn Jae-woo, head of the Component Solution R&D Lab at LG’s HS Company. I joined LG Electronics in 2000 after studying mechanical engineering and refrigeration & air conditioning. I began my career in the Rotary Development Team within the Air Conditioning Compressor Business Division. Over the past 25 years, I’ve been involved in developing core technologies and expanding platforms across rotary, scroll and reciprocating compressors. Since 2024, I’ve led the R&D Lab, focusing on advancing LG’s next generation of high-efficiency compressors.

      Q: What is the Component Solution Business?
      We are an independent division within LG’s HS Company, specializing in customized compressor and motor solutions. Over the years, we’ve earned a strong global reputation as a trusted innovation partner. Our technologies support a wide range of applications – from home appliances and refrigeration to HVAC and mobility.
      With more than six decades of expertise in compressor and motor technology, LG is equipped to meet the evolving needs of diverse industries. In the past decade alone, we’ve achieved double-digit growth, solidifying our role as a critical pillar of LG’s B2B business.

      Today, we operate six fully-functional global sites – in Korea, India, China, Thailand, Vietnam and Mexico – that combine R&D, production and sales altogether. In addition, we maintain sales hubs in the U.S. and Japan, further strengthening our global presence and customer responsiveness.

      Q: What makes the Component Solution R&D Lab stand out?
      What sets our R&D Lab apart is our deep integration with LG’s broader R&D ecosystem across both the HS and ES Companies – covering products like refrigerators, air conditioners, washers and dryers. This close collaboration allows us to rapidly develop and fine-tune compressors and motors tailored to specific product needs.
      Very few organizations globally can match our capabilities in developing the full range of compressor types – rotary, scroll, reciprocating and linear. This breadth of expertise fosters a cross-disciplinary culture that accelerates innovation.
      We focus not just on enhancing performance, but also on reimagining design – creating form factors that inspire new functions. Technologies like the Direct Drive Motor, Linear Compressor and R1 Compressor were all born from this philosophy. Our innovations reflect customer values such as efficiency, reliability and adaptability – advancing the entire industry in the process.
      But beyond technical prowess, it’s our spirit of innovation that truly defines us. We are committed to pioneering component structures and movements never before seen in the industry – establishing new benchmarks and core technologies that lead the transformation of the component landscape.

      Q: LG Component Solution is known for world-class automation. Can you share more?
      Automation has been a key enabler of our operational transformation. A major milestone came in 2024 with the launch of our Super Gap Compressor Line, which raised our automation rate to over 80 percent.
      By automating our scroll compressor production, we’ve significantly enhanced productivity and consistency – without increasing costs. Precision is one of the biggest gains, minimizing human error and improving overall product quality and reliability.
      We’re now working to expand automation across more processes and facilities, boosting our global competitiveness and delivering even higher standards of excellence.

      Q: AI is transforming industries. How is LG Component Solution responding?
      AI is rapidly becoming a cornerstone of our operations. We’ve introduced AI-driven technologies such as smart robots and 3D vision systems to automate tasks like heavy-load bin picking and small-part supply, enhancing both productivity and efficiency.
      On the quality front, AI-based monitoring allows us to digitize and analyze inspection data in real time. Our AI vision system detects issues such as missing or mixed parts, reducing defect rates and lowering costs. We’ve also built a real-time simulation database for our production lines. This helps us analyze equipment utilization, optimize processes on the fly and enhance flexibility while minimizing waste.
      Looking ahead, we aim to broaden our AI applications across the entire manufacturing process to drive further innovation and global competitiveness.
      Q: Have AI technologies changed LG’s compressor and motor products?
      Absolutely. AI and big data are accelerating the development of smarter, more efficient compressors and motors.
      In the design phase, AI enables advanced simulations that enhance durability, performance and efficiency. More importantly, it allows our components to respond intelligently to real-world conditions.
      While we previously focused on maximizing appliance performance, we’re now designing for what we call an “Effortless Life.” AI enables our systems to learn from users and adjust based on their behaviors and environments – delivering smarter performance and greater energy savings.
      Ultimately, AI is helping us develop components that are not just high-performing, but intelligent and sustainable.
      Q: ESG and sustainability are more important than ever. What progress has the R&D Lab made?
      Sustainability has been a top priority under my leadership. We’ve introduced several initiatives to reduce carbon emissions throughout our manufacturing processes.
      For example, we now use low-temperature pre-treatment liquids and paints for compressor painting, significantly lowering emissions compared to traditional methods. We’re also upgrading paint drying ovens with high-efficiency burners to further reduce energy consumption.
      Through these and other efforts, we’re working to shrink our carbon footprint and demonstrate our commitment to responsible, sustainable innovation.

      Q: Finally, what’s your vision for the future of the Component Solution R&D Lab?
      Our vision is to become a globally recognized leader in compressor and motor innovation – an expert organization that boldly takes on challenges to shape the future.
      We’re building this future around three core values: CoreTech, Challenge and Creativity. CoreTech is our foundation, Challenge is what drives us forward and Creativity emerges from our pursuit of new solutions.
