  1. There are two types of customers when it comes to this issue. Customers who are willing to accept this issue and therefore keep their devices and those who really find this issue very frustrating and therefore returns their device.

This issue has existed for minimum 2 years now. And there hasn't been an official fix from LG. It is obvious this can't/won't be fixed. It even existed in their older OS.

I can only speak for myself though. I did not wait for my warranty to end. I returned the TV after two tries from lg to fix it without any success. LG went even as far as changing the motherboard.

I can proudly say I'm now a happy Samsung customer(H6640SL) for 8 months now. Samsung's magic remote works even far better than LG's. And that was one of the reasons I went for webos in the first place. Yeah Samsung copied LG but they did it better and it works.

Don't get me wrong, I loved LG's webos concept. And I was really excited, until I met this issue.

Haven't really heard any news about webos V2 these days, but I hope it doesn't have the same issue.

  2. Viktor:

    - while the TV was running

    - I unplugged the power cord directly from TV

    - after a few minutes put back in

    - started the TV

Hope it will help you too.

    Otherwise

We have been notified of an "out of memory" and moreover, it has already been fixed in the new update 04.45.04. Unfortunately, this firmware was not yet available at the server update, so make software update will be available only via USB drive. To update the software, please go to the link below and then select the tab "Update" and download the file Software_File (Version_04.45.04) .zip. http://www.lg.com/ru...uct/lg-42LB650VTo update required: Flash card up to 32 GB, formatted in FAT32. On this map, create a folder LG_DTV and write in it the file that you unpacked from the zip-archive. After this, insert the flash card into the TV and it will automatically prompted to update. To all the latest updates to take effect, you must reset the TV. To do this, open the Settings - General - Reset to factory.

LG updates 2014 TVs to Web OS 2.0 in the second half of 2015. http://www.cnet.com/news/lg-updates-2014-tvs-to-web-os-2-0/

    Stop miss informing people.

How in the hell will unplugging the TV help with a memory leak?

Concerning the firmware version you just gave, the only thing it does is change the out of memory error with a different message; "app needs to be reset to free up memory"(how is that a fix?).

Also nobody has yet to confirm webos 2.0 hasn't got the out off memory issue too, so there's no need to be excited.

You sound like an lg fun boy or an lg correspondent. Which are you?

Lg is just using CNET to prevent people from returning their TVs on time. And therefore falling out of the warranty period.

  3. ok here's what I did guys and I would really appreciate your help, I went to the stores and I bought 2 TVs they are saying that I have 7 days return policy, so I have one week to play with these TVs and then keep one and get refund for the other.

I bought the LG 55UB850 ( uhd,3d, smart tv webOS) and the samsung 55HU8500 ( the flat nOT the curved version, also uhd, 3d, smart tv ) both Tvs with magic remotes and all... now here's my thoughts so far the samsung os has the flash player so it can read any video without an issue the LG does not because of the abscence of the flash player!! for the picture quality I have to say it's a draw they are both pretty good, except for the fact the LG uses the IPS so it's more solid and robust panel but I am not sure that it's a great plus for home use... I saw few articles or reviews stating that the IPS has better viewing angles or vice vers ca but I didn't notice that... now I have to say the LG magic remote is better also I noticed that pointer in the samsung os disappears when you enter some apps so you have to go back to the old way by clicking to move the pointer but on the LG it's always working inside all apps and I found that to be a big plus.

now regarding the operating systems it was hard for me because each one has its own advantages but generally I think the web OS is slightly better though I couldn't find multi screen function on the web OS unlike the samsung smat hub where I can have 2 screens simultaneously like web browsing and watching tv at the same time...

bottom line guys I am confused and still not sure what to chose so please help me out and if you know any other details let me know I am going to take your advise

    thanks a lot

Well to help you make the choice, you should try this also:

    1) go to the YouTube apps of both TVs and try to play a video longer than and hour and see what happens.

    2) if you've got a tablet or even your phone, try to steam a movie to the TV's also for an hour.

    3) do the same with the browser. Either from YouTube or any other site. Search for movies, videos longer than 45min.

    4) when playing movies, pause and restart and also change apps, to test the multifunction capabilities if LG. It didn't always work as expected.

    Cheers.

  4. greetings,

I decided to buy an LG smart 3D TV 55 inch class , but I am confused about something and I would looooove to get some opinions.

within my budget it's down to 2 options : 1st option the 55LB652T which is smart tv full hd 3d with web os the latest UI , 2nd option the 55UB830T which is smart tv UHD 4k 3d but with netcast .5 the previous UI.

so you see my problem, i want the uhd and the web os... it would be really awesome if LG makes update from netcast 4.5 to web os

My advice will be just ignore smart TVs or 4K TVs in a whole, get a media player which can do all that. But the truth is that's not that easy to do. Almost everyone want one system that does everything.

So what I would tell you is, do your best to ignore LG webos, because you would regret it at the end. Nothing works as advertised. A lot of bugs which never gets fixed.

If you still want a 4K then get a Samsung. I'm not a fun of Samsung but their TVs function as advertised. They don't get stuck or get out of memory error when streaming or watching satellite TV.

  5. Hi Titus

I should have made it clear that my information was cut and paste from LG email.

I'm simply passing on the advice verbatim from LG regarding the "Out of Memory" problem.

My TV is the 42LB650VB, which does use WebOS.(v 1.3.203232 afroarches) - and I'm on FW version 04.41.32.

Yes - LG have given a different model suggested in the software update ID - and their Software Version ID is not a sequential increment on the version number you are quoting - but this is the version they are advising (software released on 10th March 2015)

LG advise that The problem is with the memory management of the TV according (LG Tech Support)

LG advised advised that this Software Update would resolve the "Out of Memory" error - that appears in the WebOS

I have asked LG to confirm why a different model appears to be quoted, and also asks them to confirm if the software update will retain the fix, what with high version number releases being made available - and am still to hear the response.

    Regards

Well, what I personally think at this point is, lg is totally clueless about what the real problem is. Stunts like changing a whole motherboard and still not fixing the problem says a lot. One thing clear is we all know it's an OS problem.

The problem about a TV is, not a lot can miss it and therefore not a lot are willing to return it. That's a chance lg is willing to take to sell as many as they can. The few that return it, will get a refund and case closed.

  6. LG have confirmed that thesoftware update to fix this problem has now been released (LG emailed confirmation 04Apr14)

You can get it at http://www.lg.com/uk/support-product/lg-42LA620V under SOFTWARE UPDATE.

The file named Software_File(Version_04.26.05).zip is the actual software update file and the file named Software_Upgrade_Guide(English).pdf is the guide on how to install this on your TV.

We are talking about webos TV's and the TV you'd just mentioned isn't one. Secondly most of us are on FW version 4.4.* and we're still experiencing this issue.
  7. Hey guys sorry to have kept you waiting. Had time to test it late in the evening.

I can confirm the bug IS STILL THERE. The first out of memory came after 4 hours of interchangeable usage between YouTube, smartshare and streaming from an android tablet to the TV.

Lastly I tried to use the browser to play some movies from my Plex sever and there came the message the second time.

This confirms therefore that this is and OS(architecture) problem as I initially suspected.

And it seems lg can't fix it on webos 1.x but refuses to admit it.

Nobody also know if this is not on webos 2.0.

  8. Okey guys, so I got fed up with the out of memory issues and therefore chose to return my TV for repair. It took 3 weeks to get it back.

They told the issue has been fixed so I asked what they really did to resolve it.

They said the motherboard was replaced. The motherboard? Really? We all thought this was an OS issue. It seems the problem is bigger than we thought.

This also explains why lg still hasn't confirmed upgrading 2014 models to webos 2.0. I'm now going to test it thoroughly if the issue is really gone for good.

  9. no continues to give out of memory, then occasionally deletes well setup you've done so you have to do it all, I've already redone setup colors and images four times since the end of October when I bought it, now, because you have deleted.

delete the channels, which painstakingly ordered, moves them as he wants, I'm referring to those sat, makes a mess indescribable in memory. the average is one every 15 days, I got tired, maybe will buy a tuner combo, which manages the terrestrial and satellite TV channels, then I put a small pc I will use the TV as a monitor, but not ashamed to leave so their customers?

In the end a lot of money spent for nothing, think about buying a good thing instead you find yourself with a grinder that works as

    he wants unfortunately

Well thanks for the reply. This is a real shame. I guess I would have to return mine also. I'm really fed up with mostly the out of memory bug. I was willing to overlook the other issues but if they can't fix that then I guess it's on to them. LG doesn't really seem to care about old customers.

I can't risk waiting much longer, since the chance for webos 2.0 is slim to none.

Also no body really knows if webos 2.0 had fixed this issue. They don't even have a bug tracker or a forum to report these things.

You have to call them every time.

  10. I just recived a new firmware (4.42.42) for the 55lb730 by mail from LG, and the simplink bug has been eliminated :-), so now i can use HDMI ARC with no more laggy menu. I am almost happy again. Now i just need the webos 2.0 but proberly never happen :(.

What about the memory leak, has that also been fixed? That is the worse of the bugs.
