  1. After looking into Simplink some more, here's what mostly works for me: 1. Make sure the Apple TV is not assigned a specific device in the Input Manager app. Delete it if it has one. 2. Turn off the LG TV's Quickstart mode. 3. Turn off the Simplink mode which turns off the device (Apple TV) when TV power is turned off. 4. Set the Apple TV to never go into standby. 5. Use the LG TV Magic Remote to turn on the TV. With this setup, the Apple TV can be controlled with the LG TV Magic remote most of the time. Sometimes it loses control and sometimes the video is messed up when the TV is turned on. Using the Apple TV remote to turn on both works, but the LG TV Magic remote won't work to control the Apple TV. When you switch to the AppleTV, choose the button on the LG TV Magic remote which looks like a Remote icon... this will bring up a little panel and tell you the type of device which is connected. When things are working, the panel says "Apple TV" with a Simplink symbol which I assume it gets the name from the device. When things are not working, the panel says "DVD Player" with a Simplink symbol or sometimes just "HDMI". That's when the remote doesn't do anything and I've had to turn off the TV and try again.
  2. I'm not sure if this is an LG or Apple issue, or if I have to try a different HDMI cable (the package says it's the latest standard) but here's what I've seen so far: I have the AppleTV 4k using Dolby Vision which looks great. 1. When using the AppleTV remote to turn on the AppleTV and LG TV (using LG Simplink), sometimes the video signal is messed up – it's blurry and out of sync. Changing the input to Live TV and then back to the AppleTV fixes it. Sometimes it just works right away. 2. When using the LG remote to turn on the TV, then switching to the AppleTV the LG Magic remote automatically controls the AppleTV! This is really cool except that if I switch to Live TV then back to the Apple TV, the LG Magic remote no longer controls the AppleTV. 3. I have the AppleTV 4k behind the LG TV but the range on the AppleTV Remote is greatly reduced and stutters at about 10 feet away from the TV. I have moved the AppleTV to the bottom edge of the TV so it's not visibly noticeable but the range bluetooth is still terrible. Anyone else try to put the AppleTV behind the TV to hide it? Any success with the remote distance? Is there a safe place behind the TV to put it? I actually don't have any 4K movies on Apple TV... none of my purchases are in 4k (like James Bond and Disney movies, and a few others). The Vudu AppleTV app is currently not 4k, I heard Netflix is but I don't subscribe to it. The SlingTV app on AppleTV has a nicer interface and is more reliable than the LG app. ESPN has a very configurable multi-view so you can watch 1-4 ESPN programs at the same time. I'll have to buy another HDMI cable to see if that fixes the sync and remote issues. Anyone else try an AppleTV 4k? Likes? Dislikes?
  3. The short answer is there are projects like this one: https://github.com/Danovadia/lgtv-http-server which have the IP communication protocol. I've tried it and it's very complete. I then explored a bit more and found that I can run 'Homebridge' and a plug-in called 'homebridge-lgtv2' so that the TV can be turned on/off from Apple's Home app. If you are using an automation system you might find similar code. For me, my automation system talks to the lgtv-http-server to perform the functions through a Mac Mini which also doubles as a media server. Before buying an LG I saw that Samsung was very closed and LG was open, so that made the decision for me.
  4. Good news... some time over the past week Sling TV showed up on WebOS 3.5. In fact I think it auto-installed to the TV and there are advertisements in the sidebar. So looks like I'll be giving it a try this football season.
  5. Some updates: Plex is now available for WebOS 3.5... has been for a few weeks. It works real well but of course I have some developer suggestions: 1. The Plex startup screen starts out black, then you see a dark gray border around the Plex logo, then some resizing, then loaded. Just annoying. 2. The arrow keys on the remote functions are different than the built-in Photos/Videos app and the Youtube/Vudu apps... for example when I use the arrow down I'd just like to see where I am in the video progress, but with plex it jumps around. 3. Plex is slow to start unlike every other video app (Youtube, Vudu, etc.) Vudu 4k is really amazing. I purchased a few titles and I'm not sure I can go back to HD!
  6. As of today, it's still not available for WebOS 3.5. I can't imagine what the wait is for. I will tell you though that having to piggyback through a device (like the free Roku 4k SlingTV sent me) is a terrible option. The LG 3.5 interface is so responsive, colorful, and interactive with the magic remote that going to the slow Roku remote and the terrible interface was a let down. I cancelled my SlingTV subscription on April 19th and I'm hoping the WebOS 3.5 version comes out by football season For those who've tried SlingTV on WebOS 3.0, what's your thoughts?
  7. I had left on multi-view, left the room, and when I came back about an hour later, the interface was gone and looked great! So... is there a way to hide the interface using the remote and just have the 2 screens showing? What's the timeout set to and can that be changed? To would be nice if it was just a minute or two.
  8. It would be nice. I think if SlingTV wants to be number one in streaming, then instead of giving out free Roku's and discounted Apple TVs they should have a native TV app. I'm finding that I can do the majority of enjoying the LG TV with just the magic remote... but when you have to switch remotes it's no longer fun.
  9. I'm checking out the UJ7700 with WebOS 3.5 and figured I'd share some thoughts. First, I have found it to be very snappy and fun to use. It seems that everyday I find a new feature or use. Changing channels is quick, the extra content like Cast, YouTube Videos, and Web Browser is nice. I haven't used WebOS before so it might just be very similar to recent versions. I'm a developer and enthusiast so I have started poking around with the apps and capabilities. As far as downloadable apps go, these are not available in WebOS 3.5: Pandora, Plex, ESPN, and SlingTV. The IP control is very good so I can do things like Turn On/Off, change inputs, and change volume. Integration with iPhone is terrible... the app has to re-pair constantly and I would much rather have AirPlay. It's interesting though to navigate your phone from the TV. A feature I was hoping for is to be able to record Live TV to a USB hard drive – correct me if it is possible to do this. I will probably never use the features to magnify, zoom, or capture the screen. I would like to be able to Pause Live TV or record some shows. The Photos/Videos/Music work pretty well with my DLNA server. Plex DLNA server shows up and it's easy to find my recent TV and Movies here. I've compiled a music 'My Playlist' but I'm curious if you can have more than one playlist. Is the TV downloading this music or streaming it from Plex DLNA? I like how the music plays over the content and has a floating interface. As others have said, the DLNA UI could use an upgrade to rectangular images instead of squares. The MultiView UI could be updated too... looks like a computer instead of a TV. The Magic Remote knows which input you are on. I have an AppleTV 3 and the remote can control it. With AppleTV 3 though, learning the magic remote was terrible. I had to use another learning remote to capture the Magic Remote and then have the AppleTV 3 learn from it. Holding the Down or Up button does not repeat correctly on the AppleTV 3 – it just goes really slow instead of fast. It would be nice if WebOS had a setting for those IR commands built-in its list. If you have a workaround please share. I'm holding out for an AppleTV with 4k. The TV itself? Pure black is black, colors are incredible, but titles on a black screen are just ok. A final thought... Is there a manual for WebOS 3.5??? I've had to basically discover all these features and questions myself.
