    • Question: LG Sound Bar Intermittent Sound Loss

      New LG OLED 65" Smart TV and new LG Sound Bar.  From first setup we're getting a 1 or 2 second sound loss every 15 minutes or so.  It was happening with the optical cable.  I swapped to HDMI cable and it's still happening.  It doesn't happen when using TV speakers. How can I fix this?  It happens when using the TV and when playing a DVD on a BluRay player. I haven't tried it yet with a BluRay disc yet. Thanks.

    • PreCentral: Install Auto Set Clock Alarm Volume patches

      If you need to set an alarm on your smartphone, there are quite a few ways to accomplish this task.  You can create a calendar entry at the time you need the alarm to go off, you can use third party apps like Power Nap, or you can just use the built-in functionality on webOS to create an alarm through the Clock app.  Using a tool like Power Nap is great because it allows you to separate the volume level of the alarm from the ringtone volume of the phone. So even if the ringtone volume is set low, the alarm can still be very loud. However, if you want to set repeating alarms or at a time in the future and decide that the stock alarm functionality in the Clock app works for you, you may want to consider installing one of the Auto Set Clock Alarm Volume patchs from homebrew developer Djgardn2. Available for webOS 2.1 and higher (including the TouchPad), there are three patches available that will force the ringtone volume to either the 50, 75 or 95 percent level when your alarm goes off, depending on which patch you have installed. With these patches, combined with the Clock preferences setting to still sound the alarm even if the physical ringer switch is set to off on phones or the Mute Sounds setting on the TouchPad is turned on, you will always ensure that you hear your alarm when it's going off.

    • PreCentral: Keep device date and time synced with Clock Sync

      If your webOS smartphone is active on a cellular account, you probably have your Date and Time setting to automatically pull from the network connection for the time and time zone. However, if you are running your device without a cellular signal, even if it's connected to Wi-Fi, the network time will be unavailable and the time may start to slip. While a one or two minute difference will not affect your webOS experience, a significant difference will cause some things to break in how you use your phone. The clock and calendar appointments / reminders will be useless and you will be unable to perform actions like refreshing a twitter app or logging in to services like Instapaper because they check the timestamp on your device to make sure nothing unnatural is occurring. Having to manually update the time often can become a frustrating experience, but developer content754 has come to your resuce with Clock Sync, available in the official App Catalog for any webOS device that has App Catalog or App Tucketbox access
      Once you install Click Sync, just open up and app and you have the option to perform a onetime sync by tapping the "Sync Now" button. You can also set the app to perform a "periodic sync" every 2, 6, 12 or 24 hours by switching the toggle to ON and selecting your sync time. Alternatively, you can choose a specific fixed time by choosing the "+ Add new time" option under the "@TIME SYNC" section.  Once the app is running, you can tap the  icon to view a history of the time syncs. If you swipe down from the top-left to view the Application dropdown menu and choose Preferences, you can also choose some addition advanced features as well. You can select to turn on "Monitor Mode" that will not actually change the date and time during a periodic or fixed sync, but rather just keep a history of how far off your time is from the official time. In addition, you decide if you want to show or suppress notifications for when a time sync occurs Finally you can work with an experimental "Time Shift" feature that will add or subtract a selected number of hours or minutes to your clock's time. If you wanted to use this feature--especially if you do have a cellular signal on your device--make sure that the "Network time" option in the Date & Time app is turned off so this time shift will not be continually reset. Clock Sync is available in the webOS App Catalog for free and is compatible with all webOS devices running webOS 1.3.5 or higher

    • PreCentral: Settlement reached in Palm Profile data loss class action suit

      Ah, this takes us back. If you've been around webOS long enough, you might remember the brouhaha of November 2009. Yes, two years back, back when you could get a Palm Pre or a Palm Pixi, on Sprint and only Sprint, the webOS world was rocked by the news that Palm Profile backups were becoming corrupted on the server and the data was rendered inaccessible - a problem for those that had elected to store years of accumulated Contacts, Calendars, Memos, and Tasks in their Palm Profile. Some users were able to get their data restored by Palm going back to their backups of the backups, but others were just plain lost, and the users understandbly upset. Thus was born the class action lawsuit of Standiford v. Palm, Inc. and Sprint Spectrum, L.P.. The parties involved today announced that they have reached a settlement and will be going before the United States District Court for the Northern District of California for final approval on May 31 of this year (two-and-a-half years after the backup failure was uncovered). Being that this is a class action suit, you, the webOS smartphone owner, could sign on as a plaintiff. The only criteria you need meet are having created a Palm Profile on a webOS smartphone between 1 June 2009 and 26 January 2012 and having experienced permanent or temporary loss of access to your data stored in your Palm Profile account. If your claim submission is deemed valid, you could stand to receive a substantial settlement. How substantial? How does up to three Alexander Hamiltons sound? That's right, $30 could be yours. Except it's not a cash settlement, no, that would be too easy. If you suffered a permanent data loss due to a Palm Profile backup failure, you'll be able to choose from a $30 HP Online Store credit (not an App Catalog credit - this is for printer ink or a mouse pad) or a $30 Sprint bill credit. And if your data loss was temporary and you're still seething about it thirty months later, you could get $20 - again for the HP Online Store or your Sprint bill. The settlement is still pending approval at a fairness hearing, but considering that iPhone users disgruntled over their iPhone 4 antennae performance were offered a bumper case or $15, we'd guess this one's heading for approval. In the end, you get $30 and your contacts are still gone, while the lawyers make out with a briefcase full of cash.
