If not my old TV spoilt suddenly and Sony is uncertain of its TV business back then, I wouldn't go for LG WebOS. I would have chosen Sony android TV.

You see, everyone needs to pay for rent, food, transportation, entertainment, education, etc. So does Google's engineers....

Well, as time goes by, producing a non smart tv will be more expensive than smart tv.

Demand and supply.

By then, all TVs around will be smart. Boxes will phase out I think unless boxes are able to justify its existence.

Is either the speed test app not up to mark or the hardware got an issue. Speed test on identical Internet access point from Sony Xperia Z5 can achieve x4 faster wirelessly compared to LG 49UB850T TV using RJ45 cable.

Is it a WebOS TV ? Where are you located ? Singapore has Skype + FREE external camera when I purchased it.

50Mbits = 6.25MBytes/sec, @720, 1280*720*3(yuv 4:4:4 worst case) = 2.63MB/s, @1080, 1920*1080*3 = 5.93 MB/s (very close and exclude payload, header, etc.), question the subscription 50Mbps is not always stable and fluctuate. I think maybe that are the reasons why it didn't stream at higher resolution. My guess, hope is useful.

As long as there is CPU, mmu, any os can be executed. Like android, WebOS is still Linux base.

Anyway, it needs an army to do that. There is no motivation for hobbyist to do that.

MediaTek is making sure that the latest chip offers support for Android, WebOS (used by LG), while providing room for Panasonic to tweak it for their upcoming TVs based on Amazon's FireTV OS, according to CK Peng, marketing director for MediaTek's home entertainment business unit.

If not my 7 yrs old tv goes white screen suddenly last year, I would wait for Sony android tv. Sony has been losing market share I am also not very sure how committed Sony is going to ensure profit to sustain the cost maintaining it.

Everything is possible, just that someone needs to understand the hardware and port the open source to that hardware. Without the gerber file will make the work super tough.

interestingly, LG Singapore support website out of sudden 05.00.04 is removed and revert back to 04.62.50 not even 04.65.05.
